CS6 ID not exporting correct document size to PDF

I created a 6.25 in wide doc in ID, exported it to PDF. PDF printed doc at 5.5 in wide. I sent PDF file to coworker, who printed it to several other printers in office: same wrong-sized results. Packaged and emailed original ID doc to our local printer for help, who opened my original ID file and--without making any changes to it--exported to PDF and got a perfect 6.25 size! She had no idea why it didn't convert properly on my software, since it worked perfectly for her.
So, it's my software, and it's a recurring problem: I've created other PDF docs in the last few months that printed incorrectly. That's professionally embarrassing, especially since I make quite a few PDF docs for work.
Can anyone give me a clue where to begin to fix this problem?
Thanks!

If it is, I can't see it. It would have to be in the InDesign "Export Adobe PDF" fields (since the PDF printed improperly on several different printers).  I've exported the file to PDF several times, systemmatically changing each of the settings (in the Compression menu and the Marks/Bleeds menu - I needed Printer Marks on this doc) to see if it I could identify the size issue, but nothing successful thus far. Are there other areas/menus I'm missing?

  • Dotted line is not exported correctly form Indesign to pdf

My dotted lines do not export as exactly round dots but with kind of "erroded" outlines. Has anyone encountered the same problem yet? How can I solve it? I used the "export for high res print preset". Thanx!

With "manually", Bob meant you cannot do it in InDesign (which must make it as good as 'manual', in his opinion ).
Using Acrobat Pro, all you have to do is open the PDF and start the Forms Wizard. It's the top item under the Forms menu. You'll be amazed at how well it does:
All I did was start the wizard and hit "OK"!

  • Devanagari font in layed out in Indesign (using IndicPlus) does not export correctly to a PDF.

    Namaste InDesign gurus,
I have a problem at hand. Wondering if anyone has encoutered similar problem before? Any help is greatly appreciated. And if you're in San Francisco bay area - I can buy you a lunch :-)
Short description: Devanagari font in layed out in Indesign (using IndicPlus) does not export correctly to a PDF. All the ligatures are assembled and displayed in the PDF.
Adobe Indesign Version: InDesign CS5 Design Premium - regular U.S. version (not ME).
    Steps I took:
I purchased CS5 Design Premium and also purchased the IndicPlus plugin to author sanskrit documents in InDesign. I create Sanskrit text using either of the following methods.
    1) Itranslator
    2) Paste the devanagari from the Itranslator directly into InDesign or paste it first into MSWord and then copy from MSWord and paste it to Indesign.
It doesn't matter how I paste it. After I apply the IndicPlus character/paragraph style so that the sanskrit looks good in InDesign, when I try to export it to a PDF. The PDF does not display the ligatures currectly. It just lists all the characters in order without assembling.
I've spent a lot of money buying CS5, IndicPlus and then I can't even create a simple PDF document from InDesign. It is very frustrating.
Has anyone been able to successfully export a sanscrit document from InDesign PDF ?
(Please let me know if my problem description needs more fleshing out).
I could create the PDF from MSWord directly but I'm trying to use indesign to layout my book. If InDesign cannot export to PDF I'll just have to use MSWord for my book layout. I've spend probably scores of hours trying to learn InDeisn and formatting my book content - seems like it is all going to be waste.
Is MSWord the best choice or only choice for laying out books that have sanskrit text in them?
    -Ravi

Has anyone been able to successfully export a sanscrit document from InDesign PDF ?
Not Sanskrit, no, but plenty of Hindi, Nepali, Marathi, and other languages written in Devanagari script - so it should be possible. I don't even use IndicPlus, which by most accounts makes working with Indic text much easier.
    1) Itranslator
I've never seen this, but a quick Google led me to the homepage of ITranslator for Windows, where I saw this:
Itranslator 99 (Build 1.3.0.86)  & New Beta Version
uses 8-bit true type fonts and is compatible
    with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
    For more information, click here.
Itranslator 2003 (Build 2.0.0.38) & New Beta Version
uses 16-bit Unicode-compatible fonts and is working
    only on Windows 2000 / XP / Server 2003.
    For more information, click here.
So, if you're using ITranslator 99, there's the problem - those "8-bit true type fonts" won't work in InDesign. Can you post a sample of the text you're trying to paste into InDesign? Name the font(s) you are using, both in Word and in Indesign, and if possible make a small sample of the text available for us to test. It's also possible that InDesign is using a substituted font, which could cause this problem. So, if the font name in InDesign has brackets around it, you know that InDesign doesn't actually have that font installed and is auto-substituting. Also, if you go to View -> Screen Mode -> Normal and the text is highlighted pink, you know that the font has dropped. (Unless the highlighting for dropped fonts was turned off - check in Edit -> Preferences -> Composition and make sure that "Substituted Fonts" is checked.
Also, for what it's worth, is there any way you could Place your text instead of copying and pasting? This may be cause of your problem - but even though it probably isn't, it's still worth a try.
Lastly - no, I've found InDesign to be superior for typesetting for almost all languages, but the learning curve is pretty steep, and many of the problems faced by people working in non-English languages are not easy to research when you have a problem.

  • Acrobat/Indesign does not export correct into the selected output intention (eci_iso_coated_v2_300)

I use the CS6 suite with Acrobat XI at windows platform.
When I want to save a file from InDesign as .pdf with output intention eci_iso_coated_v2_300 the result is a .pdf with more than 300% ink coverage.
I tried to transform the result in Acrobat XI into this standard output intention, but also the result has more than 300 % ink coverage.
What is the reason of this bug?
Before with Acrobat X this worked without problems

    Hi Rob,
I was told the new way to work would be to draw files via Bridge direct into the InDesign file
and I thought automatically the color would not be changed.
my colourmanagement setting in bridge for the whole CS6 was  ECI isocoated_V2_300
The Illustrator file was saved without color profile.
    In this test file I used 3 kinds of black: background of pirate in cmyk 79,34 / 72,78 / 59,38 / 79,88 = ink coverage 291 %
DÜSSELPIRATEN in “black” (if you would convert this in the file with the cmyk button it would be the same ink-percentage as before
    “e.V.” was set to 100 % k
I set the preferences for Acrobat from InDesign CS6 as pdf X4 with profile eci isocoatedV2_300 in three ways:
    no color conversion
    convert to profile
convert to profile keeping existing values
in all tree files the pirates background has 322 % ink coverage instead of 291 %
Why does Acrobat convert “black” in the wrong way?  If I click in Illustrator on the 4c button to convert the “black” into 4c it is 291% ink
Acrobat should come to the same result with all profiles: iso coated V2 and iso coated V2_300
The same happens also by saving as .pdf X3 or .X1
The minimum what I expect is, that Acrobat reduces ink coverage for black to 300 %
I also made test with the new ECI profiles for laminated prints from 2012.
    And with newspaper profiles
In this case the ink coverage comes below 300 %, but only when I choose convert to profile.
And then the 100 % k converts to cmyk, what I don’t want to have with text.
Is there no way to reduce ink coverage below a special percentage without changing Text 100% k
And is there a bug in Acrobat XI with the ECI IsoCoated_V2_300 Profile? For there is no color reduction below 300 % in all conversion settings.
I can’t test this with Acrobat X or IX, for my computers with this software don’t run with CS6 64 bit.
    enclosed you find my files

  • FLV content embedded in SWF not exporting correctly in In-Design CS6

    Hi,
I have an FLV video embedded within a SWF file.
The FLV video plays correctly in the SWF file when exported or previewed.
When the SWF is placed into In-Design CS6 and then exported as an interactive PDF, the SWF operates normally (buttons and pages all working as in the original SWF) except the FLV video does not load at all.
Can anyone advise what's going on?
    Thanks for reading!

    Hello Joe,
That was a long posting, will start with the Buttons-question: can you check the action 'On Success' of those slide buttons? I couldn't see which version of CP you are using, it is in the properties. Default action is 'Continue' which means that the playhead will play further and finish the total duration of the slide timeline. Change this action to 'Go to next slide'. However for the Question slides you will not have so much control, sorry.
As for the audio issue, I'm a lot less sure, need to know the version of CP first of all. You have to be sure that all patches are applied (certainly if you have CP5). Sometimes it helps to insert a small silence at the end/start of the slide: move the audio or video file to start 0,1sec after the start of the slide and make it finish 0,1sec before the end of the slide. Worth trying if this helps?
    Lilybiri
PS: sorry, bit sleepy, you did mention it is CP5. You'll find the actions in the Action accordion of the Properties panel of the button.  And check your version, please, there was an important patch released in December. Use Help, Updates. 5.0.1.624 is the present version.

  • Adobe pdf 8.0 not outputting correct page size from publisher 2007

i have windows vista home premium with microsoft office 2007. microsoft publisher is not outputting the correct page size when converting to pdf. In Word 2007 i have the document size 4.5 x 6, and if i convert with the adobe add in, the new pdf is exactly 4.5 x 6. In publisher i have a postcard size 8 x 5, when i print to pdf or convert using the converter, it sticks the postcard in the center of an 8.5 x 11 page with crop marks. I can't work with this, i need the pdf to output the exact page size as the microsoft publisher document. i've tried changing page sizes in page setup in the publisher print dialog box as well as the advanced settings in pdf. it doesn't make a difference. it always prints on 8.5 x 11 and centers the postcard in the middle of the page. any help is appreciated

Think of the paper size in publisher (and likely the printer options) as the setting that Publisher is trying to produce when printing. Think of the paper size in the Adobe PDF printer properties as actually putting the proper paper in the printer. If you do not do the latter, you will get the printout properly sized in terms of your setup and printed on 8X11 paper that is put in the printer. They selection of the paper in a printer is not typically an automatic feature of print drivers. One is the sizing issue of the application and the other is the actual paper that is used. If you printed to actual paper, you would actually put in the 8X5 paper or whatever in your printer. If you used 8X11 paper in the printer, then you would likely get the same result you have in the PDF.
There may be two convert options in Publisher (depending on the version of Publisher). One would be PDF Maker, the Adobe add on. The other would be a convert to PDF provided by MS. The latter started coming with OFFICE 2007. Also, with OFFICE 2007 you needed a newer version of Acrobat to get the Adobe PDF Maker (AA8 I think was a minimum). If you use PDF Maker, then you have to select the printer properties in PDF Maker for the paper.
I just did a test sample with AA5 (sorry, that is what is on this machine - but I am sure I would get the same result on my other machines). I created a word processor document with a 5X8 dimension and printed to the margins (set to 1 in). I then printed to the Acrobat Distiller printer (the old name for the Adobe PDF printer) after setting the page to a custom 5X8. The end result of the PDF was a PDF that was 5X8 with 1 in margins of my printing as I had selected. I thus printed with a custom page size in my document and matching page size in the printer properties, getting the expected result. However, I am getting inconsistent results when I try with WORD on this machine.
To be more helpful, I guess I am going to at least have to try my AA7 on my notebook with OFFICE 2003. Those are both behind your version levels, but I would expect the results to be the same. I will also try with my word process that worked out fine here, but did not retain the paper size setting in the driver, when WORD would not allow the size reduction (that is the inconsistency I mentioned!).
I will report back later. Bill

  • Which functions and features in Numbers are NOT exported correctly to Excel?

I wish to know EXACTLY which functions I use in a Numbers sheet WILL FAIL to export correctly to an Excel or Neoffice spreadsheet.
For instance, I created a Numbers spreadsheet using prolific use of the IFERROR function. However, when I EXPORT to XLS, all the cells that used the IFERROR function were replaced by the literal value of the cell. My IFERROR formulae were not EXPORTED as I had expected.
I note that some formulae were converted correctly in my EXPORTED spreadsheet: eg MAX, MIN, AVERAGE.
I understand that IFERROR was a function introduced recently to Excel, ie in the 2007 version. Consequently, I suspect that Numbers exports to a pre-2007 version of Excel. If so, which version?
I have found this list that shows which functions are compatable amongst various versions of Excel:
    Excel Functions: Compatibility Reference (2010, 2007 & 2003). (n.d.). Retrieved from https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsHau4_IeCfwdG45c0VhcjBBUGNreVo2ZzN NRU1BT0E#gid=0
This list shows that, for instance, IFERROR exisits inb both Excel 2007 and Numbers-09. So why is IFERROR not exported?
Curmi, J. (n.d.). Summary of function in excel and numbers-09. Retrieved from http://curmi.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/functions-in-excel-and-numbers- 09.pdf
Some examples of my use of ISERROR in Numbers are as follows:
    =IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")
    =IFERROR(MEDIAN(C51:C58),"")
    =IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
I use the above function to  carry out the calculation ONLY IF  a cell is non-blank and contains a number.
    More questions
What are the rules that Numbers uses to convert to Excel?
Is Numbers converting to the 2003 version of Excel? ... or an earlier version? ... which version?
Why desn't Numbers advise me there were conversion errors or simplifications made?
eg: "Cell A33 Function IFERROR was exported to the cell value for Excel"
Is there a preference that I can select which version of Excel that Numbers will export to?
In the meantime, I must abandon Numbers and use NeoOffice!

    Thanks,
I applied your suggested ISERROR transformation to examples such as:
    =IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")
    =IFERROR(MEDIAN(C51:C58),"")
    =IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
However, a caution for young players....
Certainly, the ISERROR function exports to .xls. However, it behaves differently in NeoOffice.
Items 1 and 2 function identically in the case of say, ranking a row in which some cells are blanks.
Item 3, when translated using ISERROR to =IF(ISERROR(C32-C88+1),"", C32-C88+1), results in "" (ie error is raised) in Numbers but yields figure 0 in NeoOffice when there is a blank in either of the cells.
I  recall from programming school in the mid-1970s that using GOTO statements and On Error branch statements were not admissible as routine programming steps. In fact, we received an automatic fail grade if we used a GOTO or GOTO like construction. So, I have found a more programmatically elegant way to solve my problem: eg:
    =IF(C88="","",C32-C88+1)
Curiously, earlier I found/suspect this does not work equivalently in Numbers and NeoOffice:
    =IF(ISBLANK(C88),"",C32-C88+1)
When you try using ISBLANK you always get an intuitively unexpected result because ISBLANK ONLY gives TRUE when there is absolutely nothing in a cell. A Formula reference in the cell, even if the function result yields "", gives FALSE... because, according to the definition of ISBLANK the cell contains a formula.
As I tell my students, ALWAYS lookup the HELP on any function you use. ALWAYS test the function to see how it performs!.... and lesson 3: Always test your spreadsheet on different systems.... then hope!

  • Wingdings not exported correctly in PDF by Crystal Reports XI JRC in Linux

I have a report that contains checkmark and scissor character from Wingdings/Wingdings 2. The PDF file is generated via a program using Crystal Reports' Java Reporting Component. When I am testing it in my machine (Windows), the checkmark and scissors characters are shown correctly. But using our Linux Redhat server generates a "P" instead of the checkmark and a quotation mark instead of the scissors.
With the thought that Crystal Reports XI JRC do font indexing instead of subsetting/embedding, my idea was that there was no installed Wingdings font in the Linux server. I've replicated the case in my Windows machine by removing the Wingdings font.
With that knowledge, I've installed the Wingdings (*.ttf files) font in the Linux server and executed commands like ttmkfdir (as instructed in some tutorials). I've verified that in Applications -> Preference -> Fonts that the Wingdings fonts are selectable. But when I generated again my PDF file, the correct fonts are still not rendered correctly. Is there anything more I need to do for the JRC to recognize the Wingdings font in Linux.
Migrating to the Crystal Reports for Eclipse released last Jan 2009 is not a possible option.

First check is to ensure the Java JVM can see the font.  The Java SDK comes with the JFC demo Font2DTest.  Do the fonts show up there?
Note that the Java JRE has a lib/fonts directory, where you can place TrueType fonts that the JRE then would use.

    Ted Ueda

  • Cannot export InDesign document as small pdf

Need to export an InDesign multi-page document as a small pdf file for internet viewing.
Have tried in CC and CS6. Even though it's set to "Smallest File Size," the document is not compressed.
The interesting thing is that, with exactly the same document, sometimes it will be properly compressed and sometimes it won't (original document size: 31MB; Smallest File Size: 4 to 6MB). Have tried with the same document in both CC and CS6.
    Any explanations or cures?

    Dear Mylenium,
Thank you (I think) for your response. There was a similar post from early in July somewhere, and I had already followed all the suggested steps to no avail (as did the poster).
I solved the problem by deconstructing the document and extracting pages until I found the spread that was causing the difficulty. Prior to that, I had audited the space usage (in the pdf optimizer command) and found that the bulk of the megabytes were being used in shading instructions.
As a last resort, when I found the offending spread I imported the extracted pdf page into Photoshop, flattened the file thus rasterizing it, and exported it again as a Photoshop pdf.
I recombined the pages and ended up with a document that was suitable for our use.
I'm sorry I chose the wrong forum. This was the first time I'd ever posted anything. There are several Adobe applications that produce pdfs and aside from not really knowing where to go, wondered if the problem had been encountered in other applications.
I have been using InDesign in various forms since it was Aldus PageMaker. And this is not the only issue we've had with the CC software. We are discussing now whether to drop the Cloud membership when it expires and move to Quark. We are primarily print publishers with tight, tight deadlines. What we need is relatively reliable software that produces consistent results, not something that seems to be in a chronic state of BETA testing.

I'm attempting to convert a Microsoft Word document to a PDF.  I have an email address in the footer of the document that reads [email protected] but when I convert it to a PDF, the hyperlink doesn't work correctly.  When I click on the hyperlink in the PDF, it brings up the email address as [email protected]  It completely cuts off the first name!  The full email address displays correctly, but when you click on it, it cuts off the entire first name before the period.
    Please help!

Be sure you use PDF Maker for the conversion. If that does not help, put such addresses in quotes and see if that does the job.
