CS6 InDesign crash on Windows 8

Whenever the TMP environment variable points to something else than %LOCALAPPPAT%\Temp CS6 InDesign will crash. My TMP and TEMP point to a RAMDRIVE for obvious reasons. To work around this bug in InDesign without changing your TMP variable do the following
Create a text file InDesign.cmd with the following content:
SET TMPTMP=%TMP%
SET TMP=%LOCALAPPDATA%\TEMP
start "ID" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6\InDesign.exe" %1 %2 %3
SET TMP=%TMPTMP%
Store this file somewhere, for instance in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6
Use it as default application to open indd files (right-click, Open with..., Look for another App on this PC)
In this way your TMP variable will not be affected and you can use InDesign

Go into your Performance preferences, Advanced Settings and set the drawing Mode to Basic as a workaround until good display drivers are made available.
Make sure to restart Photoshop.

  • Indesign CS6 Indesign crashes

Indesign CS6 - InDesign CS6 crashes on startup.  I have a PC with Windows 7.  The second time I start it, it works.  Adobe should be able to fix this.  It's been happening for maybe 14-16 months and is getting very frustrating.
    Mike

There hasn't been a single file lost, because I know Windows and save after every edit.
It's a big annoyance I want to get rid off.
So please don't start the discussion whether I have time for random crashes or files losses, the answer is: NO.
But I also haven't got the time to sacrifice a working day to try and solve the crashing.
Rather provide me with possibilities I can enable/disable that you think might work.
Thank you , your help is appreciated!

  • CS6 Indesign - Crashes permanently and/or slow interface

    Hello to the community,
we have 35 Mac OS 10.8.5 workstation on slightly different hardware.
We have always 8Gigs of RAM.
1.) CS 6 crashes permanently and / or the useage of the complete ID-interface slows extremly down.
Our Workaround for permantly Indesign-crash on user-account:
    > Deleting ID-caches / Reboot > Indesign starts again
If we start ID6 without deleting caches and reboot the machine on the administrator account Indesign starts normally and works fine.
    Why that ?
2.) If the Indesign-Interface slows down  (which happens very often after using it for a while),
a change to the adminstrator-account solves the problem
    > The indesign Interface works fast again.
But on the user-account u cant solve the problem ...
    > It has no effect to delete the caches (and reboot).
    > It has also no effect to set Indesign to default-parameters.
    Solution:
reinstall Indesign >>> aftter working for one or two weeks the  slow ID-interface comes back
deleting useraccount and make it new >>> it seems this solves the problem
    Why that ?
    Regards
    Oliver

Without seeing the crash report (which you can post on pastebin.com, not here, and provide a link), it may well be a permissions issue. See Cant launch new inDesign CC | Adobe Community

  • Indesign cs6 freezes/crashes on Windows 7 64 bit selecting desktop folder

    Dear All,
I'm experiencing a very strange behaviour of Indesign CS6 who freezes/closes in specific situations connected with desktop folder.
I try to explain the issue:
I got a brand new PC with Xeon CPU E3-1246 3.5 GHZ, 8 GB RAM, Windows 7 64bit and Clean installation of Indesign CS6.
Indesign works great and fast, but everytime I try to open a file (from file ---> open) and select the desktop folder the program stop thinking for 1 second than closes down without crashing, without errors without anything.
Same thing happens when I try to insert a picture in a frame selecting it from the desktop folder (only this folder, all the others work perfectly).
I couldn't find anything useful on the internet to solve this kind of problem.
Does anybody had the same problem? How did you solve that?
    Thanks in advance for help.

  • InDesign CS6 randomly crashes on Windows 8.1

I have installed InDesign CS6 on Windows 8.1 (for a while now).
But it keeps crashing at random moments.
It doesn't matter whether I am working on a document or the program is opened and idle in the taskbar, at some point it just says: "InDesign has stopped responding, click to close program" (not the exact error message, that one is in Dutch).
I have contacted Adobe support several times with this issue, they help me clear the Adobe cache folder.
But it still happens, even after clearing the cache folder.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Indesign CS6 constantly crashing on Windows 7

    Hi There
I regularly work with big documents in indesign (magazines, books, etc). When working as mentioned the program tends to crash on me every hour or so. It happens so regularly that I already got used to it, but it actually sucks really hard...
There's usualy no clear reason and it just freezes on me like boom!
Is anybody experiencing the same problems?
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit with SP1
    CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz

Harddrives: 4 x Seagate Barracuda ES 2 in a Raid 0 with 2 Terrabytes + Intel Rapid Storage Technology with a 85 Gb SSD
    Thanks

I'm also a Windows 7 Pro x-64 user, and I've never experienced this sort of issue. How much free space is on that SSD? If that's where you user profile is stored, it's also where ID is doing its temp storage and swapping.

  • InDesign Crashes in Windows 7 x64

I have a user who has been working in CS5 for a year or so who we recently setup with a new computer running Windows 7 Business 64-bit. Since the upgrade and a clean install of CS5 she's been experiencing frequent crashes in InDesign, usually when placing elements or saving. The event log messages all show similar descriptions:
Faulting application name: InDesign.exe, version: 7.0.4.553, time stamp: 0x4d890440

In addition to the faulting module Public.dll (which is the most common), we have seen faulting modules IMAGE.RPLN, ObjectModel.dll, APPFRAMEWORK.RPLN and PACKAGE AND PREFLIGHT.RPLN.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing these crashes?
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the faulting module is often not helpful, what's more interesting is the module that invoked it. This is hard to get under Windows. Are you willing to install WinDBG [do you have any Windows Developers around, or other users of Visual Studio]?

  • CS6 Indesign crash on Mac since forced reboot

    Good morning team,
I'm in big trouble since friday last week. I had to force a Mac reboot 'cause the whole desk was freezing (while moving some korean files to our fileserver). Since then I cannot open Indesign anymore.
I've had 2 files opened when my Mac crashed, one was already saved, the other wasn't. Im not sad about losing the savings, because I was just starting with a new layout. Anyhow, I need to run Indesign for my work again - immediately.
I've already tried any mentioned solutions, deleting the recovery files, renaming and deleting Indesign Defaults and SavedData, but nothing works. I hope you can help me find a solution, I have some deadlines today
    Here's the log:

If you need any more informations, please just let me know. Thank you for help!
    Ellen
    P.S. System is OSX 10.9.2

Will ID run in a new user account?
If it will, go back tot he old account and rename the Adobe Folders in the User Library, then copy them from the new account. If not, uninstall, run the cleaner tool( CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall.

  • Illustrator CS6 constantly crashing on Windows 7 system, triggered by the navigator. Anyone else??

    Hello,
I have now been experiencing this problem for the past 7 months (since using a PC in my current position on a Windows 7 operating system). It is incredibly frustrating! I had previously used a Mac, and continue to do so at home and do not have this problem.
Whenever I use the navigation tool in Illustrator CS6, and have done so for a sustained period of time (for example moving across 3+ artboards), Illustrator crashes without warning. I get a message window that says 'Illustrator has encountered a problem and needs to close.' Then when you press OK, it freezes and quite often I have to manually restart the PC by holding the power button down as CS6 is unresponsive in Task Manager, or I have to log out and back in again. I only realised the link with the Navigation tool after this repeatedly happened, up to 4 times a day on average and I kept a log to record what I was doing at that moment. I have only retained my sanity with the help of auto-save. Prior to this I would lose hours of work a day.
I saw on a similar thread on this forum that said the bug could be triggered by the use of a Wacom tablet (I have an Intuos 3 with the latest drivers) so I tried working with a mouse for 2 weeks and although the problem happened slightly less frequently, it still happened. Therefore I wondered if perhaps the Wacom just increased the speed of the navigator and aggravated the problem. I also read it could be triggered by an Nvidia graphics card, so I installed a Radeon HD6570 but the problem remained.
Now fast-forward 7 months and I have a whole new system, a brand new PC with 8GB RAM and 3 GHZ processor speed in a last chance attempt to rule out any hardware link. Unfortunately, it has just happened AGAIN. Now I have eliminated any link to hardware, it is clearly a software problem (Namely Windows 7/CS6 incompatibility). A similar problem has also been listed on the Adobe site in which it claimed it would be fixed with an update, but after downloading this the bug is still there.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? And even though Adobe are aware of it...when can I expect an update that fixes the problem? I can't be the only one. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

    Hello,
Why did you say nothing has changed? Does that mean it was working but now it's not?
Do you have a folder called c:\temp? If so rename it to c:\myTemp. If you don't then search for your \Temp folders and delete any XML files, DO NOT DELETE ALL XML files.
Make sure you are logged in as a local PC administrator, disconnect your network cable, disable your anti-virus and then do a  repair install on Crystal Reports

  • InDesign Crashes in Windows 7

I recently bought a new laptop with 8 gigs of RAM, more than enough to run the entire Adobe suite at the same time. I did a custom installation for only the software I needed. For some reason, everytime I use InDesign for a few hours, it crashes and tells me there is not sufficient memory to continue running this program. This is usually the only piece of software I have running. I've done virus scans and nothing comes up. I've even changed setttings on my computer to minimize RAM allocations to anything else that is unecessary.  I re-installed all of the suite in hopes that it will correct the error. Nothing seems to work. It's becoming a real pain every day. I know someone else posted on this but seems like they were running windows from a Mac with the font management problem. This is brand new computer, out of the box. Does anyone have any possible solutions?

The wiseguy answer is to not go out for tea. But I won't offer that as a solution.
I don't know what you mean by you “tried allocating more virtual memory but currently we reverted to Windows managed.” Can I assume that what you mean is that you manually allocated disk space for a paging file and then decided to let the system automatically allocate same? The paging file size doesn't really affect your ability to allocate virtual memory unless you allocate a paging file size that is fairly small, in your configuration, that would be < 8GB. If you let the system manage the paging file, it will increase or decrease the size of the paging file per the needs of the system, depending upon what applications are running at the time and the amount of address space they need. Obviously, if you are running of disk space, that could cause the system management of the paging file to fail.
In any case, the paging file size doesn't directly limit the amount of virtual memory available to each application. It is a fixed amount of memory that is available to each application. In terms of InDesign's address space, it isn't just the size of the InDesign file, but more importantly, what type of complex graphics are linked into same. A full page 300dpi color image takes a good amount of memory and it only gets worse as you have more and more pages with such graphics. I would see whether closing the book panel mitigates this issue.
Again what bothers me is the system instability you have after InDesign quits until you reboot. The fact that you suddenly got an error message associated with InDesign while you not actively doing anything (i.e., you are actually away from the keyboard at tea) also bothers me. This points to some problem beyond just InDesign and your data.
Another person responding to you suggested a possible heat / fan issue. You should check on whether in fact you do have such a issue given that the problem manifests itself later in the day. I'd also have the system's memory checked out thoroughly.

  • Illustrator CS6 keeps crashing in Windows 8.1

Both the 32-bit and 64-bit of Illustrator CS6 crashes when attempting to open. I haven't been able to find a solution to the problem.
    Any assistance is appreciated.
    Thank you!

You need to provide the crash info from the event viewer. If both versions crash, something is terribly wrong on your system liek a critical DLL missing.

  • InDesign CS6 Frequent Crashing on OS X Mavericks

    Hi,
I recently installed OSX Mavericks only to find that InDesign CS6 frequently fails to launch, and also quits randomly once it does manage to launch.
    Symptoms:
    crash on launching InDesign CS6
InDesign crashes after a short but inconsitent period of time
crashes when Exporting to PDF, before the options dialogue appears
Getting a bit baffled, just wondering if anyone has some ideas. I also have CC installed and InDesign CC seems to function fine. CS6 was fine before installed OS X Mavericks.
So far I've tried the following:
    checked and applied recent updates
checked the permissions of ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version8.0/ are set to read/write and applied to all enclosed files and folders
resetting my system caches (i.e. Safe Boot)
    cleared my font caches
    reinstalled CS6
I've attached a report below, hopefully something might standout to someone.

Happy to report this seems to have resolved the problem. Thanks Bob.

  • InDesign crashes while exporting to PDF

I have one PDF that after placing in InDesign cannot be exported to PDF
InDesign crashes on Windows and Macintosh, versions from CS3 to CC
Any ideas what can be wrong with my PDF?

I reckon you might find that you have font clashes as your PDF is being created. I had a similar issue a few weeks back where I had created a Brochure, sent it to the client, went through rounds of amends, and the final round of amends prior to print sign off was sent in a word document. When I opened the word doc, I copied and pasted the amends, all looked fine, so I created one last PDF... crash.
I ahve a suspicion that word auto-activated a font that didn't agree with fonts within the InDesign file. I deactivated many fonts, restarted my Mac and hey presto... sorted!
Now, the PDF that you imported into your InDesign file may well be the culprit activating a dodgy font, and this becomes a bit problematical. So, you could open it in Photoshop and save it as a high res image, or you could open it in Illustrator and hopefully all text has remained in place and will enable you to ouline fonts and save it as an illustrator file... BUT, you must advise and get your client to check the contents of the resultant file if you go down either of these routes.
