CS6 Indesign documents do not recognize fonts

To my surprise, when i open a document and type text, the text is highlighted and says, something like, "font not found."
Every other application, including Microsoft Office Professional, can find, use, and apply the font.
Anybody else?  Got a suggested fix?

Thanks,
Yes, I'm REALLY sure.  :-)
Default document font is Minion Pro (regular).  BUT, same result will occur if I swtich to any of the other fonts on my computer.
System is Windows 8 Professional, all updates installed.
Seems to be working correctly at the moment, after switching to another font and leaving minion pro on the page.  Editing minion pro paragraph does not, at the moment, yield pink highlighted text indicating font not found.
Would like to keep this thread open, since this problem (even when switching to other fonts) repeats.
In the last two years only major change to my system was upgrading recently from Omnipage 18 to Omnipage Ultimate (19).  But, like I said, no problems, with using Adobe fonts in other applications.  Rather disturbing.
All suggestions and insights welcomed.
Thanks.

  • Font Book does not recognize fonts in /library/fonts

I just did an erase and install. I chose to install extra fonts into the system and this wierd problem just started yesterday. Font Book will not recognize the fonts in the /library/fonts folder. Font book will not even install additional fonts in this state. I restarted the computer and that seemed to fix the problem. But now it's back again. I think it happened after I woke the computer from sleep mode, however the problem does not appear everytime I wake the computer up. I noted the following entries in the system log that seem to coincide with the problem after waking the system.

Does anybody know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Well, I'm glad trashing the fonts cache fixed that problem. Font conflicts have been known to totally screw up things like MS Office. Whether or not it could screw up launchd, I don't know. But, if the problem doesn't resurface, then it definitely did.
However, I'd send a bug report on the launchd crash to Apple and include the crash report. Send bug reports and enhancement requests to Apple via its Bug Reporter system. Go to <https://connect.apple.com/MemberSite> and join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Then, go to <https://bugreport.apple.com/>, click on the Login to the Apple BugReporter link (using your ADC username and password), and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering. If your item isn't fixed with a new update, you can fire a follow-up on your original, via e-mail.

  • InDesign CC does not recognize some Open Type Fonts (OTF)

The fonts in question work in Illustrator CC and Photoshop CC. The fonts are activated using Font Agent Pro 6.204 on a MBP 17" 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB ram running OSX 10.9.4. The fonts are available and used system wide, well except for inDesign CC. Thanks in advance for any help. d

Avenir and ITC Franklin Gothic are two that I'm working on now. Both of those fonts are used in two different files created with inDesign CS3.

  • Can word files cause a CS6 InDesign document to go bad?

I am seeing my InDesign CS6 files become corrupted in a very strange way and the only common thread I see is the source of the word processing documents imported in these files. I'm wondering if how the word files are created, that is by cutting and pasting text out of Preview then into word, and then editing and formating it, could be the reason. PRC

try exporting the file to .idml. See Remove minor corruption by exporting
While that might "fix the file," if doesn't address the root cause, which is probably some other software you have running, perhaps a third-party plugin, such as a font manager auto-activation plugin.

  • CS6 InDesign plug-ins not loading when launching

I just purchased CS6 Standard. when launching InDesign, the adobe plug-ins are not loading causing error messages. I have re-installed twice, but get the  same error messages. At the end of several error messages, I get
'Cannot open resourse file." Can anyone help me?

I'm a little confused with what you write. There is a difference between extensions and Plug-ins.  Plug-ins are installed using the plug-ins installer and extensions are installed by "Adobe Extension Manager (version)" where version is the Photoshop version and the extension package must be created for that particular Photoshop version.  A CS5 package will not work in CS6 etc.   Installed extensions will be listed in Photoshop under menu Windows>Extensions>List of them.  Plug-in may install in the Filters menu or a place like menu File>Automate>Names.  Installed Extensions that you installed should also show in the  "Adobe Extension Manager (version)" window. Adobe installed extensions like Kuler and Mini Bridge do not show in the "Adobe Extension Manager (version)" window.

  • When saving my Adobe CS6 InDesign document, why does it save as an Adobe Illustrator document?

When I click "Save As" it looks as if it will save it as an indd document, but in fact it saves as an AI document.  However, when I double click the icon, it tries to open in Illustrator, but then I get an error message stating it cannot open the document.

It means that your file associations in Windows are messed up - all .indd files are assigned to open up in Illustrator. Shutdown InDesign, open up any file that you know is an InDesign file, right-click and select Properties, and it'll say "Opens With: Illustrator." Click on the CHange button, then choose InDesign from the window, and make sure that the "Always Open With" box at the bottom is checked.
That's how it's supposed to work, anyways, When file associations are messed up in Windows sometimes it takes a lot more work to fix it. But give that a shot first.

    Hi Jan Lotz,
You should keep the font arial narrow bold, narrow italic in the same folder where you keep your indesign file. Then open the indesign file hope it will work.
    Good luck!
Not true. At the very same place as the InDesign document is saved should be a folder with the name "Document fonts" and in this folder you have to put all fonts.
You should also take care if the font family include a font with these styles and is compatible to your OS. Best practice is to use OTF fonts.

While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

  • InDesign CS6 (Mac) will not package fonts

I have hundreds of fonts on my machine and have never had any issues with packaging fonts until CS6. CS5.5 works great, even today with the same files that will not package in CS5.5. However, I cannot use 5.5 due to the other 7 designers all using CS6. None of them are having issues - they are also all on PCs with me being the only Mac user.
"Cannot copy necessary fonts" is the error that I get when packaging anything that uses a font other than the default system fonts. Our primary font is Gotham, which we have 12 licenses for. Scala, also licensed, is another problem child. These all package fine in CS5.5.
    Machine specs:
    Macbook Pro
    OSX 10.7.5
    2.3 Ghz
    16 GB memory
    Fontbook is our font manager
I have tried Fontnuke, Font doctor, resetting permissions, deleting InDesign prefs, copying the fonts in question into my Applications font folder, basically any solution that I could find online has been tried with the same error message presented at every package attempt.
Any help would be seriously appreciated. Its embarrassing for the Sr. Art Director to be the only one on the team that cannot package correctly.
    Thank you

I believe I have this problem, or very similar, in both CC and CS6. It happens on both machines I use, detailed below, when I convert from previous version InDesign files:
    Machine #1, Mac Pro:
    InDesign CS6 v8.0
    Mac OS 10.8.5 (12F45)
    3.06 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, 24GB RAM.
    Machine #2, iMac:
    InDesign CC v9.2.1
    Mac OS 10.9.2 (13C64)
    3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM
    Example:
    1. I open a packaged inDesign file in InDesign CS6, converting it from the previous version (CS5 in this case, according to IDentify.jsx). The fonts are all working.
    2. I resave the file as a CS6 file, fonts are all still working as long as I don't reopen the file. (However, if I close the file and reopen it, it will show fonts missing.)
    3. I package the file from CS6, no font problems shown in packaging.
NOTE: I do not get a "could not copy fonts" error at all.
    4. I open the new CS6 inDesign file inside the package folder. It will say "Fonts Missing: Calibri" or similar, showing some of the fonts missing, not all.
    5. I can easily manually copy the fonts from the old package into the new package and fix the issue. The fonts are not damaged, missing, locked, or have any visibly different permissions from the other font files when I get info.
So for me the problem happens particularly with the resaving of files from older versions of InDesign, not necessarily with packaging them. If I open a CS5 file and resave as a CS6 file, then reopen that file, it typically has a few fonts missing. This happens to also effect packaging even though it will show all fonts present in the Package window and give no error message.
Checking the CS5 fonts package, it contains both a AdobeFnt14.lst and a AdobeFnt13.lst. Not sure if this pertains to the problem or not, searching these files reveals that both contain the "Calibri" font that went missing on CS6 conversion.
I have tried resaving and repackaging a CS6 file (not converting from CS5) with the same fonts that went missing in the conversion and they all were copied fine.
Obviously this is devastating if I package and send a folder out only to find out it secretly didn't have all the fonts!
I have tried "fix permissions" and "clear font caches" but this has no effect on the problem.

I am using CS6 InDesign on a PC using a Windows 7 operating system.
Due to eyesight issues, I need to have the menu bars of programs in easy-to-read font and picture size.  Specifically, the menu bar across the top (File, Edit, View, etc.), and the menu bar on the left side with the graphic depiction of options.
In earlier versions of Windows (e.g. XP), whenever I changed the screen resolution on my computer to a lesser resolution in order to show the link icons on my desktop in a larger, more readable size, all the software programs, including yours, appeared on my screen with the menu bars in the larger font size that I needed.
However, in Windows 7, this is not the case.  Even though I have selected the lowest resolution, making the icons on my desktop extremely large, I cannot read the options across the top menu bar of your program, nor the pull-down menu items that they contain.  I cannot see the graphic depictions of options on the left side of the screen. They are all too small.  How can I make your program increase the size?

    NO way.

  • Acrobat X Pro does not recognize system font

I scanned a document to pdf, opened it in Acrobat X Pro and then applies OCR to the image by clicking Edit in the OCR dialogue and chose ClearScan. I then went to edit the text, but when I clicked on a selection, a TouchUp dialogue box popped up stating, “All or part of the selection has no available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font.”  The font used in the document was Arial 10 pt. Does Acrobat not recognize that font? Is there any way to edit this pdf's text?

I still haven't got a sense of what exactly you are after, since you are not only talking about settings with visible OCRd text. But my results partly support yours, partly not. My tests were with Acrobat X, your mileage may vary.
OCR with searchable image... the image contained standard fonts, which I could freely edit. No problem, except of course that the results didn't change on screen. I could also correct OCR suspects, which is the editing Adobe are expecting you to do.
OCR with cleartext... the image contained generated fonts, which I couldn't change. I don't see this as a security thing, rather that Acrobat has generated synthetic fonts which match the exact appearance of the scan, and has no idea what the original font was. I can't edit these, because I don't have the font. (If it let me edit them I suspect it would fail horribly, because the generated font will only contain the letters it believes to be there, not other ones you might need). I can, however, select the text and change the font, then edit the results. There were no OCR suspects, which I find a little odd for the same original, but the OCR was indeed more accurate.
By the way, I may not have made this comment: editing PDFs is sometimes possible, but it should always be thought of as a desperate last resort. Just be happy the few times you can use it, don't expect much or anything, and you won't be disappointed. If you want to edit scanned text (as opposed to correct OCR) don't scan to PDF.

  • Find the Missing font text content in indesign document

How to find and get the missing font content in the indesign documents by using the SDK. give a tips and techniques.
    Anybodys help me.

It wont answer your question, but you could have this problem too:
I have a problem in my current project where text frame having no text make the document report the usage of a font wich we dont want the project to use (times by exemple). The problem being that Indesign report usage of a font wich is in fact not applied to any text. Weird!
The easy fix is to identify those items (text frame class + no text) and reassign them as "unassigned".

  • Once uploaded, my indesign document has a different typeface.  Why is the font replaced?

We have a standard branding font that we are required to use throughout all of our marketing collateral.  The cloud has replaced it with Times when it's saved.  Thanks for your help!

We do not have access to your customer fonts. The fonts we support for image previews of InDesign files is documented here http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/fontinstall/cs6installedfonts.html.
One solution is to convert the InDesign document to a PDF and upload. The PDF will retain the custom font. And the image preview will display as you expect.
