CS6 installed with CS4

I have been using cs4 for a few years. Just received CS6.
Asked rep whether best to uninstall cs4 before installing cs6. He recommended not to uninstall 4, because cs6 would recognize the older program and could actually use some of my older settings (such as Dreamweaver preferences, sites, etc) for the cs6. Said to have my cs4 SN ready to verify.
When did the cs6, it was a clean install but no reference at all to my older cs4.
Now, I have both cs6 and cs4 on computer.
Just talked with support and they said there was no problem with having both versions. Also, if didn't want to have both, I could do a total uninstall of cs4 and that would NOT cause any problems with the cs6.
I guess my question is to verify that there is no problem with having both versions. AND that there would be no problems to the cs6 if I do do an unstall of the old cs4.
Also, wondering if any practical advice on best way for me to proceed. I have Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium; and CS4 Web Premium.
Main programs I use are Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash.
Appreciate any help, suggestions, etc.

Many people keep both on. CS 4 for old projects and CS 6 for new. Many people have more than two versions on their system so they can work with other people that only have one version to work with.

What I had installed was CS4 Desin Premium on Win7 64 bit. Pixel bender seems to be installed, but nothing happens when I launch and it doesn't show in Photoshop 32 or 64...

CS6 compatibility with CS4?

Does CS6 have the ability to save backwards to InDesign file compatible with CS4?

CS6 can save .idml files that can be opened in CS4 (and it's now available as a command in boththe export and Save As dialogs). You will lose any unsupported features, and the list of them will be huge, and you can expect the text to flow somewhat differently in CS4. Unless this is a very simple document, it probably will not be satisfactory.

im in the creative cloud with Indesign CS6, but a customer wants me to do something in CS4. Is it possible to work in the cloud with CS4 or do i have to work in CS6 and save the file as a CS4-file?

While you could backsave using IDML there is no guarantee that the layout will be the same.
The text will surely reflow and any new CS6, CS5.5 or CS5 features that you take advantage of will be lost.
In short, If they need it in CS4 then do it in CS4.

MPEG-2 codecs missing from Adobe Media Encoder CS6 installed with Creative Cloud Membership

Some people who have downloaded Adobe Media Encoder with Premiere Pro CS6 as part of a Creative Cloud Membership subscription have a problem in which the MPEG2, MPEG2-DVD, MPEG2-Blu-ray, Dolby Digital, & MXF OP1a codecs are missing.
To fix this issue, install the Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.1) update. Choose Help > Updates to install the update.

It's true. We reached the conclusion that the version CS6 is inferior, a step back, than 5 or 5.5. What's good about it, is the Audution CS6, which is a great replacement for the flawed Audition CS5 accompanying Suite 5.5. You can almost forget the Soundbooth ... Soundbooth ... hmmm, better not comment, but anyway, the most polite thing that i can say it, is that it is a demonstration of how a company decides that its users are not able to think and not able to learn or understants anything. Anything else that i want to say about Soundbooth can not be written here ....
Adobe has demonstrates this development cicle along all this years. The products takes an uphill curve of development, and suddenly, goes back, showing wrong decisions was taken. So after some time , the products starts to evolve again . CS6 shows this stop evolving point. Now we have to wait untill new uphill curve of development starts again.
Well, but like their predecessors AA CS6 still not are good enough to dispense Audition 3, but it is a good outcome for the Suite CS5.5 Audition at least was a sign of improvement in this Creative Suite CS6
Many of the features and effects that have been deliberately taken out of version 5, now returned in 6, (some) showing that at Adobe at least recognizes when misses badly. But the optimal effects panel of AA3 did not return, some effects of AA3 as fade in and fade out did not come back in AA 6, the optimum VST support of AA3 to not are present in AA6 like many VST we have here that was expensive, you do not work in 6, thus, by these and other reasons we can still not dispense AA3.
Maybe in CS7 we users cam be satisfied.

Photoshop not installed with CS4...

Hi, I just installed CS4, and everything was installed except Photoshop.
I've searched my computer for it without any luck.
If no one knows what to do, can someone post the Tech Support number please?

I'm running Snow Leopard on a Mac Pro and I had the same problem... Also, other items appear to not have been installed too... like Flash, Ilustrator and one other item... I noticed that my Student Edition (Master Collection) had a copyright date of 2008 so maybe this is part of the problem....
Is it possible to get new installers from Adobe?
Is there one place to go within CS4 to get everything updated?
Oh, I noticed that AfterEffects does not launch... I'm thinking that it just needs to be updated to something beyond the .0 release to work with Snow--thoughts?
If I choose to re-install on the same computer by first uninstalling.... do I need to deactivate the serial number?
Also, can I install CS4 on my MacBook Pro using the same license? I would never be using both simultaneously. I think Apple allows this with Final Cut Studio.

Installing CS3 on a Computer that is pre-installed with CS4

I purchased a laptop that is licensed to pre-load CS4 Master suite. I receive no cd or serial number or anything. I called Adobe to make sure that this was legal and was told that Adobe does do this with big sellers. Anyway I received the first laptop and did a migration and because I have other CS versions on my computer the license for the CS4 disappeared. I sent the computer back and I now have another. I am teaching at two different schools and still need my CS3. Adobe advised me to not install CS3 because they share some folders or something. Is there a way to install CS3 without ruining CS4?

to install CS3 you must uninstall CS4 then install CS3 then reinstall CS4.
CS3 and CS4 both coexist together.

Dreamweaver didn't install with CS4 programs (web premium)?

I recently installed CS4 web premium, and noticed that dreamweaver was not an option to install on the initial installation, and it was not loaded onto my computer at all. The only sign of it is a DW alias that is an uninstall but there is not DW to remove?
Has anyone had tis problem? Should I uninstall everything and retry?

Thank you so much David! I didn't even remember I had downloaded the trial version a while back. I was able to follow the Cleanscript instructions after uninstalling CS4. Then it worked perfectly to reinstall

Installed CS6 trial but still want to open with CS4

I recently installed InDesign CS6 (Windows) as a trial, but I still want InDesign CS4 to be the default for opening documents. However, when I go to the Open As menu, ID CS4 does not appear. When I browse through Program Files and select C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\InDesign.exe, it points me to ID CS6. Which is incredibly annoying, since the program I selected was Definitely not CS6.
So is there a way to force Windows to associate indd files with CS4 instead of CS6 without uninstalling the trial?

You can edit the registry manually (there are directions in some other threads here, if you search), but that will cause trouble when you start working in CS6 since all of the new files will open with "Missing Plugin" errors that cannot be resolved since CS4 can't open files from anything newer.
I open the correct application first, then use File > Open... instead of trying to use a double-click, but you can purchase the Soxy plugin from Rorohiko.com which will intercept the open commands and automatically use the version from which the file was saved if it is installed.

How do I open other versions of Photoshop with cs6 installed?

I've installed CS6 beta to see what it can do, but it won't let me open Photoshop CS4 (my current version). CS6 is fine and looks slick, but in the meantime, I have actual work to do and all of my presets/brushes/actions/shortcuts are saved on CS4. Can I just uninstall CS6 and forget about it?
I'm running on Windows Vista, and even when I tell the computer to open a file with CS4, it opens it in CS6. When I go to the Program Files/Adobe/PhotoshopCS4/application, it STILL opens CS6.

On Windows, you can only open one version at a time. So, inorder to run CS4, quit CS6 and then launch CS4. It should work fine.

Hi I've got CS4. I upgraded to Creative Cloud CS6 for a year and cancelled. But when I upgraded to CS6 it installed a newer version of Acrobat. I no longer have my original version that came with CS4. Where can I get my previous acrobat back?

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. I had CS4 also loaded on my laptop and just copied the Acrobat file over. It's installed. Just need to contact Adobe and figure out why my serial number isn't working.
And to answer the other question. I had Acrobat XI Pro from the Cloud along with my CS6 subscription (also from the cloud) but when the price went up after the introductory period, I decided that the already paid for in full version of CS4 - along with Acrobat Pro - 9 was sufficient for my purposes.
Will definately reconsider at some point in the future. Thanks again and have a great day!

Run the cleaner tool and reinstall with sufficient user privileges and security stuff turned off. Your install went wrong because you didn't consider this.

I have InDesign CS from 2003. At some point I upgraded to Adobe CS4, but I did that online, and never had a disc.
I had to clear my Mac, and reinstall my Mac when it crashed. I uninstalled my Adobe CS4, and I am now realizing I don't have a way to reinstall.
1. My Mac won't support the install system on my old InDesign CS disc.
2. I don't have discs for the CS4.
How do I get my CS4 back?

Hello. I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on a MAC with OSX LION. I also have Photoshop CS6 installed. When I double-click on a file in Bridge CC, it always opens in CS6. If I say "OPEN WITH Photoshop CC 2014", or if I drag the file directly to CC 2014 in the Dock it will open in CC. Since I like to double-click or hit return in the bridge, I am constantly having to wait until the file opens in CS6, quit CS6 an then open it another way to get it into Photoshop CC 2014. I tried to disable CS6 by hiding it, but then double-clicking Bridge did nothing. Any ideas why this is happening?

Check and adjust the File Type Associations in the bridge cc preferences.
