CS6 Media Browser Problem

When using the Media Browser in Premiere Pro to view files in a folder that contains many files (100+), the browser keeps jumping back to the beginning after viewing a few of dozen files.  I then have to scroll back down to the last place I was and then I can continue a little further before the browser jumps back to the beginning again.   The files do not open instantly -- there is a finite time where the message "processing ..." is displayed.  I gave up before getting to the end.   I doubt that I have an under-resourced computer since it is a i7-3770K with 32GB RAM and a GTX670 card.  Is there a limit to the number of files that can be viewed in the Media Browser?  Any suggestions?
Thanks
P.S.  Just did a search on the problem and I see that it is a well known issue.

Hi guys !
Just wanted to post because we had the same problem on 4 different computers with different configurations.
It was really annoying to have this jumping/refreshing media browser problem. At a point, that this browser was useless.
Then we had a problem with droping sound editing r3d code... Kind of a deal breaker, when the company claims that you can edit 4K r3d files no ?
We finally figured out that the Media Cache and the Media Cache files NEEDS to stay in the original folders (C:\Users\nameofuser\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common).
Even if everybody on the web tells you to dedicate a single SSD just for the media cahe, it won't work for Premiere pro. DON'T MOVE THOSE FOLDERS !
Removing those folders to the original place (C:\Users\nameofuser\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common) [again]  solved the problem for us. Hope it will work for you guys.
Don't blame Adobe, i'm sure they'll read my post to fix this in the next version of premiere

Adobe support contacted me on the phone and said that its a known issue if you have multiple formats or codecs when you try to view media in browser in Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude it wont load or it will freeze. The Adobe support Tech said he would call back, but had  to further research the issue. Its been over 3 weeks and I  never heard back?
Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude when trying to view media in browser wont load or it freezes during viewing in media browser. I downloaded CC version and it works fine in both app. I reinstalled both Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude app to rule that out, deleted pref as well.

    Hi Zencuts,
When you try to view media in browser in Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude it wont load or it will freeze.
I'm not seeing that behavior with various kinds of media. If it's a known issue, it's the first I've heard of that.
Do you have the latest update of Premiere Pro CS6 and Prelude CS6? You can try Help > Updates to make sure. I see you have an iMac on OS X 10.9. What kind of media are you using? Which GPU is in the iMac? Have you updated the drivers recently?
Your issues may well have to do with your installation of OS X, as well. Certain ways of updating to OS X 10.9 can reset permissions in your Adobe folders so that can cause problems. See this doc: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)

I'm not sure how you got through to support with a CS6 issue, as phone and chat support is no longer available for CS6 users (except installation issues in the first 90 days and activation issues thereafter). Forums are the only option for support for CS6 users, sorry. That said, the agent should not have promised you a call back and not followed up in some form or fashion. I will see if I can look up the case and let the agent know their error.
    Thanks,

  • Media Browser problem

I use iWeb to produce a web site about my photography. I use Aperture to process my images and use the Media Browser to link those images to iWeb. I have been using this setup successfully for several years now. This week I have experienced a problem that I have never seen before.
I want to use some photos from a project I created in Aperture this week on my site. I can see the project in the Media Browser in iWeb, but none of the images in the project appear in the viewer portion of the Media Browser. Every other project in Aperture as viewed in the Media Browser functions correctly. It's really weird. I click on that specific project and no image previews show up.
I am running Snow Leopard and iLife '09. I have the latest updates for all of the software (Mac OS, iLife, Aperture). I have quit and restarted Aperture and iWeb repeatedly. I have rebooted the machine. I have trashed the plist file for iWeb. I didn't see any other funky files in the Application Support or Preferences folder for iWeb.
Does anyone have any suggestions about why this behavior is occurring and what I might try to remedy the problem?

Resolved. See thread here for resolution: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2229783&tstart=0

  • Media Browser Problem with iWok'05

I have been encounting the same problem since yesterday: if I open the Media Browser in either Keynote or Pages, the application starts to in-respond. What do I gonna do? I tried reinstalling it, but it still doesn't work.
    Thank you very much!

I've encountered this problem with iWork also. I don't know of a workaround with iWork '05, but I don't see this problem with iWork '06.

  • PP CS6 Media Browser displays thumbnails upside down

    Hi,
    I'm using a 2010 MacBook Pro 17" 3.06 GHz, 4GB RAM,
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GT, OS 10.6.8 and PP CS6.02.
When I'm viewing stills in media browser, it's displaying many of the thumnails upside down and side ways.
Not sure what else to say about it or do.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

PP won't reorient stills that were taken with the camera turned on it's side for portrait shots, so I wonder if that's what you're seeing here.  The shooter had the camera turned or even upside down at the time.

  • Premiere CS6 media browser keeps refreshing

I teach a high school Multimedia course. We have Premiere CS6, and when trying to import footage from an ACVHD footage from a Canon Vixia camcorder, the media browser is constantly refreshing, making it impossible to import, sometimes wasting an entire class period. This is unacceptable. I have read in other forums that this issue was resolved in CC updates of the software, but we are only licensed for CS6 with no plans or budget in the near future to upgrade. How can this be resolved? If there is no fix for this in CS6, I will be having some serious regrets for deciding to switch from FCP to Premiere this year. Any resolution to this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks -

  • Sharing to Media Browser problem

My movie is complete. I want to share to the Media Browser. It shares it no problem, except for the background audio on the clips. The video looks good, the music is fine, but NO background audio.
I've already tried sharing it to QuickTime and other choices with no luck. Any ideas?

Yup, I saw exactly the same problem. It appears that using the 'share' function in the media browser ceates files with the same name but in a different directory, but when iWeb posts the site it doesn't use the directory info, resulting in all moies pointing to the same movie. I found two different workarounds:
    1) Rename each movie to a unique name in the finder
    2) Use Export instead of 'share', and add those movies.
Neither solution is as elegant as 'share' in the media browser, but they both work.

  • Premiere cs6 does not see correct images in media browser

    Hi Folks,
I'm working on a project in CS6 Premiere (On an iMac with Mavericks running) and I cannot get the Media Browser to correctly see/import the still images (JPGs) I want to use. Instead, it sees all 8 images as the same image, though with different file names. I've reopened Premiere a few times, closed and opened Bridge a few times, renamed the files (Premiere still sees the original file names). Is it a matter of clearing the cache? If so, can someone explain that process?
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks Ann,
I tried that but Premiere is still seeing its original view of the images (all thumbnails are the same) - the newly saved image doesn't even show  up in the Media Browser.

  • CS6 Feature: Media Browser and Preview in Files Panel

Another two-fer feature overview for Audition CS6.  When we started the re-write for Auditino CS5.5, it quickly became clear that the hack Audition 3 used to enable preview within the Open File dialog was no longer going to fly.  With Windows 7 and OS X, the APIs to customize these dialogs were lacking or potential pitfalls of programming peril, and the unfortunate decision was made to not include them with CS5.5.  Additionally, and at no fault of Microsoft or Apple, preview within the Files panel was not implemented.  These two missing tools unleashed a pretty loud cry from our users.  I hope our answer to these requests in CS6 will satisfy everyone.
    PREVIEW IN FILES PANEL
It's not a glamorous feature by any means, but so crucial and glaring when it's missing.  Like oxygen.  So breathe free with preview in the Files panel!  Yes, all your favorites are back including Loop Play toggle, and Auto-Play!  You may even hide the panel transport if you really don't care about it!  And even then, when you realize how nice it was to have but are too stubborn to expose it again, you can secretly toggle Auto-Play and Loop from the panel menu.  It'll be our little secret.  I'll never tell...
Note the mini time display when playing or after pausing preview, and the ability to sort files by open order or last-accessed order.
    MEDIA BROWSER
A feature so nice I should probably have written about it first.  You get what you pay for, however, and these forums are a free service.  Who needs an Open File dialog, which is only available when you need to open a file but provides little value otherwise?  There's likely some reason they've been so popular the last 30 or more years of application UI design, but Audition CS6 has a little something more useful.
Easily browse your local drives, removable and thumb drives, and mounted network locations from within Audition!  Preview files without opening them!  Filter out unsupported media!  Create Shortcuts to your favorite locations! I know, right?!
But wait, that's not all!  Drag-and-drop your assets into the Files panel or directly into your multitrack session timeline!  Insert into a new or existing CD Layout!  Send a group of files into the Match Volume panel for amplitude/ITU Loudness adjustment!  Even reveal the file directly in your OS file explorer!  Hide the left-hand Root location panel and use the fancy little dropdown selector at the top of the panel!  There's a lot going on in this panel, and it comes FREE with your purchase of Adobe Audition CS6.

_durin_: We are glad that you are working about it, but as we understood we can expect this kind of functionality in next version of Audition? We are great fans of your software since cool edit. We are working on it for about 13 years and must admit that politics of your company is a suprise for us. Adobe 1.0. complete non stabile, 1,5 corrected, 2.0- perfect. 3.0 very good but with few shortcomings. We are waiting for an upgrade for our pack (2xAA 2.0 + 1xAA 3.0 + new work station). We were happy that we heard that version 5 is comming, but in our industry is useless. Version 6 without few small details would be acceptable, but we won't  buy incomplete software without patch support in full price. It is a fact that you made good job because restoration of advanced tools is very fine and the engine is shocking fast. Our proposal - please give us next version for test one day before publication. Tests are free because in our opinion it is best software in our job and we wont change it. We are waiting for version 7.0 .
Bob howes: I understand that it might be non important function for you, but please try to produce a sound commercial and match the music about 100-200 examples not using the preview, just by drag to the multitrack. Repeat this several hundred times. You will change your mind And this only one of many functionality of this button.

  • Problem sharing iMovie project with media browser

Having prepared a movie in IMovie I tried to share it with media browser at 1020p HD.  After 2 hours of processing I got the following error message.  What does it mean and what can I do to fix?  I shared at the mobile level and it worked.
"Unable to prepare project for publishing.
The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (File already open with with write permission)"

I know what the problem is, it's related to Time Machine on laptops running the 10.7 Lion OS.
This requires using the Terminal app, in your Applications/Utilities folder
To turn off Time Machine snapshots type in the following command:
    sudo tmutil disablelocal
The Mac will likely ask for your password, so type it in and hit the return key. The type the word, exit and hit return. Quit Terminal.
Open iMovie and try doing another export and see if the same error message pops up.

  • Working with XDCAM HD in Media Browser window (CS6)

Is it just me, or is this unusably slow?
I have a PDW-F70 deck hooked up via Firewire to my PC (Windows 7 64-bit) but when I mount a XDCAM HD disc and try to browse the contents in Premiere's Media Browser window (or in Predulde's Ingest window) then it takes what seems like forever to download and display the thumbnails and low res proxies. Is Premiere trying to do someting different?  It's so incredibly slow that I'm thinking it might actually be trying to download and cache the full hi-res media before letting me browse ... but when it finally does finish, once the clip thumbnails do eventually display, then it is still taking forever to display them in the source/external display if and when I select one in the browser window ... and heaven help me if I try to actually play one of these clips.
Does this scenario sound at all familar to anyone? I'm guessing I have a basic settings issue ... either that or I am maybe just misunderstanding how this function works with XDCAM HD in Premiere.
For what it's worth, using Grass Valley's Edius app with the exact same hardware, setup and connections etc and browsing the media using their own "Source Browser" window (which is basically their version of Premiere's Media Browser window), then I can almost instantly view thumbnails and browse the XDCAM HD low res proxies, make my selections and import whats needed ... same goes if I'm using Sony's own XDCAM Browser app.
Clearly I'm a bit lost at this point and am hoping someone can help me out.
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

This is a known issue in PP.  Adobe has elevated the priority, but for now you'll just have to wait until thumbs are draw for better responsiveness.
In the meantime, please do report the bug as unusable for you.  The more that do, the more urgency will be attached to a fix.

  • Problems finding movie in iDVD after sharing through Media Browser

I created an iMovie in the '08 version and am now trying to burn to a DVD. I have followed the tutorial for rendering the project through the Share-Media Browser option, but when I open the iDVD application, I cannot find my movie under "Movies". It's listed, but grayed out.
Does anyone know what I may have done wrong?
    Thanks.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with how I created the file originally. I could be missing something very obvious here.
If you shared your iMovie '08 project to the "Media Browser" (or published to the Gallery), the file creation should have been automatic and supposedly foolproof to specific settings. However, just to be sure, have you tried opening the "Project" package at the finder level to play the movie in the QT Player and examine its statistics to ensure they are what they should be? It might give some clue as to why the file is "unavailable" in iDVD.

  • Problem with Fotomagico and new iLife Media Browser

I installed the new iLife Media Browser as part the Apple software Update several days ago. I use Fotomagico, which uses the media browser. After installing the new browser, Fotomagico no longer sees photos- it can browse the directories in iPhoto but can't see the actual photos (blank boxes appear with file names) and I can't select them.
Is there some way to uninstall the new browser? On my wife's Mac, I did not install it after seeing what happened on mine, and Fotomagico still works fine there.
Help! I'm in the middle of a project with a deadline! I've contacted Boinx Software also but they are taking their time.

Do you use Time Machine? Apart from wiping the HD and starting over there’s no other way to go back.
    But try repair permissions first.
    BTW
it can browse the directories in iPhoto
What version of iPhoto are you using?

  • Media browser has no directory structure

    Hi,
probably a pretty dumb question, but here's my problem:
the media browser in PrPro CS6 worked fine untill yesterday, now it doesn't display the directory structure in the left pane anymore. I can still reach the required directories through a shortcut to the media drive on the desktop, but I want to switch easily between directories as my footage is in different places. Also, the recent directories in the menu are  missing.
Is there some way to reset the media browser? Am I missing a simple thing?
Thanks in advance, it'll probably be a simple solution...
    Nils

Do I need the entire tree (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD)?
Or do I only need CLIPINF and STREAM?
What's in CLIPINF?  The one thing I care most is timestamp.
Also, if I cut the mts file (making it shorter), will CPI file needs to be updated?
    Thanks!

  • Slow rendering in Media Browser

Love the new media browser in Premiere CS6, but when viewing video files (avchd) as thumbnails so I can use the scrubbing, it takes FOREVER for the thumbnails to render, especially if the folder contains more than 10 clips.
The behavior is bizarre: it starts rendering the thumbnails, then after 10 or so renders, the whole process starts over again. The second time, the original 10 thumbnails will render quickly and then it will render an additional 10 or so that will render slowly, then the whole process starts over, ad infinitum.  I have one folder with over 100 short video clips and this render process keeps looping and looping for up to an hour before all the thumbnails in the folder get rendered . . .  weird.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior??

    jstrawn wrote:
I can understand your frustration, and I have elevated the priority of the open issue.
The problem occurs when trying to preview many files (like, 100's) at once in the media browser. So the workaround is to view them in the media browser in smaller chunks, by sub-direcorizing them beforehand OR just importing them all and using the project panel/icon view for preview. Also, as I mentioned, we have the product 'Bridge' (which you should already have if you installed any of the suites or the prpro family prodcut) which is made for this sort of high-volume file previewing before opening them in any of our apps.
Is there some reason why non of those workarouns is sutiable. Is there anything else I could realisitcally do at this time to rectify your problem?
Well, I appreciate the workaround suggestions, and they do work, of course, but the productivity drop is extremely significant and not on par with the stated improvements in CS6 that prompted me to pay Adobe big bucks. (to me anyway)  :-)
For instance:  Viewing in Bridge does work properly, as I have tried that.  Of course I can't scrub (the big draw in CS6)  And I'd have to sit down and make a list of all the files and their names so I could go back into Premiere and import just the ones I need.  Not very productive.
As for splitting the files up into smaller folders: the problem is AVCHD.  Have you tried to move all the pertinent files for each stream from all the different folders to another folder and keep everything straight?  Yuck!
I suppose importing all the files into the Project is an option.  (and one I haven't tried)  But that would burden the project with a ton of unneeded cruft.  This suggestion is probably the most viable because I could set up a workflow to import all, then scrub through the files and remove the unneeded ones from the project.  (sort of a backwards approach)  Since I haven't tried that yet, I'm not even sure if that would workaround the thumbnail loop issue.  And that would make the initial project HUGE.
Here again, I think the anomaly I'm seeing is different from the one you're seeing.  Once that folder gets fully processed that first time, Premiere works just as envisioned from that point forward, ON THAT PARTICULAR FOLDER.  There is something else going on here.  Give me a day or so and I will try to throw a video up on youtube so you can see the precise issue.  I think you'll be surprised. First, I'll show how it works properly on a pre-processed folder.  Then, I'll show the anomaly.
