CS6 New Pattern

Hi everyone,
Question regarding newly created PATTERNS: Once "Save a copy" is done, where is saved this pattern / what file' extension is generated. How can I make my own directory with all new patterns , always available for my futur work. I guess I miss something = when I make a new pattern which shows up in the Swatches panel, if I open a new page, my new pattern disappears from this panel. What am i doing wrong? Preferences doesn't show a choice for patterns /Swatches.

You must save swatches from the Swatch Panel menu. Then load swatches in other files.

Cannot Define New Pattern from Transformed Selection

I am having some trouble making a new pattern from a selection in Photoshop CS6. If I simply use the rectangular selection tool over an area that I would like to make a new pattern from, I can go to Edit > Define Pattern to make a new pattern from my selection. However, if I transform the selection or create a selection using ctrl-click on a layer, the option Edit > Define Pattern is unavailable. I haven't been able to find anything online that explains why this would happen, so I've decided to try my luck here. Any insight will be appreciated! Thank you!

conroy2009: I used the rectangular selection tool and the option was there; when using the Transform Selection (feathering is not an option for that as far as I know) command and after positioning it correctly and accepting the new selection, the Define Pattern is not an option. I don't believe feathering is involved. However, perhaps the Transform Selection does anti-alias for some reason... which kind of irritates me. I just want to be able to make a more specific selection without using the pen tool for a simple rectangle. Strange that it would also apply an effect. :/ So, do other people just use the rectangular selection tool and get the exact position correct on the first shot?

Creating a new pattern swatch

I'm working on a script that should, among other things, create a new pattern swatch from a groupItem in the document.
I managed to create the new pattern swatch and name it using:
myNewPatternSwatch = app.activeDocument.patterns.add();
myNewPatternSwatch.name = <the_swatch_name>;
The only thing I can't figure out is how to get my groupItem into the new pattern swatch.
Any idea?

I don't think you can… Sorry it's not very helpful… Patterns were the sure way to crash a script too although I have not tried in CS5…

How to add a new pattern to a pre-existing pattern set?

Well, the title pretty much says it all... if you have a pattern set that you've already created, how do you continue to add new patterns to it while keeping those already there? I'm going to end up with a few gazillion of them because I do texture maps in Poser. So I HAVE to be able to keep adding new patterns to the Plaid Set, the Polka Dot Set, the Purple Monkey set... you get the idea. But I can't find this info anywhere. I'm sure the amazing experts here can help!

There's ALWAYS more to learn about PS. I read more about the PM... and adding a new pattern and then saving worked perfectly. Okay, here's ANOTHER question... what if you want to move a pattern from one set to another? Case in point: if I saved a swatch that looked like a solid color to "Plain Pattern Set", looked at it more closely, and saw a subtle design. Okay, so this should go in "Subtle Design Set." Could I just open SDS and save the new pattern there, and then delete it in PPS? Or would that have some kind of weird effect?
I'm kind of scared to try it in case something gets permanently deleted... At this point, I don't think it would make much difference if it did. But once these libraries get to be a lot bigger and the original image the pattern was made from might have gotten lost, it would not be good.

New Pattern Brush issue

I'm trying to create a new pattern brush with just a line and arrowhead at the end. I've tried following the instructions that the help screen provided and am getting stuck. When I choose to create a new pattern brush the only options available for the different segments are "None", "Original" and "Fish Pattern". How do I get the colored line and arrow available? All I'm trying to do is create a simple line with an arrowhead that doesn't change shape when I extend the length of the line. So far it's been a nightmare for me. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I need to make two lines each a different length but with the same size arrowhead.
Remember that you can apply multiple strokes to a path.
Create a Graphic Style that involves two strokes: One stroke is an ArtBrush for the shank of the arrow; the other stroke is a PatternBrush containing the end(s) of the arrow. See item 6 below:

Creating new patterns

I have a few stars that I want to drag to the swatches panel to make a new pattern that I can reuse. I drag over the few stars and drag it to the swatches panel, though nothing happens after I drag it on the swatches panel. It does not save it as a new swatch. What am I doing wrong?
Are there only certain types of elements that can be saved as swatch patterns?

Do you know how to construct a pattern?
The backmost object of a tile should be a rectangle (filled or not as you wish).
The objects on the rectangle should be positioned so as to give a regular repeat.
Once you've drawn your pattern tile you drag that to the swatch palette.
See how you get on with this method and post again if you still have problems.

Problem with the new pattern tool in CS6

When I make a pattern like the image below, it appears some vertical and horizontal lines where the pattern ends, when you change the zoom of the page, the lines appear and disappear alternatively
The problem is that these lines also appear when I paste them in photoshop it's really annoying to have a really great tool but which doesn't work.
¿Anyone have some idea why thise happens? or how can I solve it?

Monika, it doesn't really work what you say.
When I turn off anti-aliasing, in fact the lines disappear, but I have the same problem when I paste it in PS.
I can rasterize and it seems that disappear aswell, but what I want is to have acces to modify the pattern if I have to, so if I rasterize I can no longer edit the pattern so it's not a really good option for me.
I want to suppose that this is a bug and they will fix it eventually, I really hope so, because the tool it's really good, but not so good if it's bugged.

PS CS6 Scripted Pattern Fill Problem

Has any one seen this before?
When i do a normal Fill with Pattern the pattern is the right colour, image (1)
But if i select Scripted Patterns Image (2) it always comes out with random colours.

Printing problems: OS 10.8.4 CS6 new iMac Epson 9900

Trying to set up printing on a new computer with a new OS. So far, can't print larger images(40"), get a stuttering/repeat pattern. Can only downoad Epson driver from Epson's website: Printer Driver 9.04. Also can't size any image, large or small, correctly to paper: image file creates a 3 inch border on all 4 sides, but image prints to the full width of the canvas with no border.
Is this driver compatible with CS6/OS 10.8.4 ? Or have I missed something in the last 10 years printing with Epson large format printers, but on older OS'?

CS3 is not supported under 10.8. No matter what you do you're on your own.
You can buy CS6 but not at an upgrade price or move to Creative Cloud.

New Installation CS6 - New PC - Upgrade

Hey all .. I have been trying in vain to open a support case in order to ask this question but can't for the life of me find where to go to do that.
So I thought I'd post in the forum and see how we go.
Story is, I originally purchased Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 back in the day and over the years I have purchased upgrades. I'm currently at CS5.5.
I am about to build a new PC for video editing and I would like to install CS6 on the new PC.
So, do I need to start at the beginning again and install CS4 on my new PC or can I simply purchase and install the CS6 upgrade fresh on my new PC without having to install any of the previous versions?

Personally I'd recommend you sign up for the creative cloud membership. You can use your CS4 license key in order to recieve a big discount on the monthly pricing. If you simply provide your cs4 licnese key during sign up you'll only have to pay 29.99 per month and you'll get access to adobes "latest and greatest". You'll be able to use the Master Collection. So any app you want to use you can just download using your creative cloud account. I personally feel this is probably the best option for you. The other great thing is that you never get stuck with old out of date software again. Because as soon as they realease their new Suite you get access as long as your membership is still going. So if you do the math 29.99x12 months = 359.00USD which is much cheaper than paying 2500 USD and buying the master collection. Plus you have to remember with creative cloud you won't ever get stuck with a old version... So IMO this pricing plan works great for me, another reason I like it is because it's more affordable for me to spend 29.99USD a month instead of spending several thousand. However it all comes down to what you want to do. You have to access the internet once a month though, so it can verify you made your payment, but everyone has internet these days so that isn't a big deal for most people.
(All you have to do is sign up a creative cloud account, then from there log in to your creative cloud account and start to download the apps you want to use. Then install them and you're ready to roll)

Can InDesign CS6 handle pattern swatches?

I layout catalogs and production materials for a pajama company, and I use pattern swatches extensively to depict our pajama prints on illustrated garment blanks. I'm currently using CS3 (and trying to convince my boss to upgrade), and I have to do all my layout in Illlustrator because InDesign can't do anything with the pattern swatches. I know I can import objects that have a pattern swatch applied, and, while it looks pixellated, prints correctly. But where I can't alter them or re-apply the swatch or anything, it's too much of a hassle in going back and forth between the programs. So much so, that I haven't been using InDesign at all.
I'm fine with creating the swatches in Illustrator, but I need to be able to create a pattern swatch pallette for InDesign or something. Anything.

There are definitely some things which Illustrator is better at doing. Pattern swatches is one of them. In fact, Illustrator CS6 has a much improved method for creating pattern swatches.

CS6: new buttons in forms, some problems

For example, the new Clear Field button, a novelty in Indesign CS6, deletes the fields in all the pages of the document (a PDF)
If you are in page 5 and use this button all fields comprising pages from 1 to 4 are deleted.
How to avoid this?

The new forum action in InDesign CS6 you're talking about is not "Clear Field," it's Clear Form. It just invokes an Acrobat action which before you had to create in Acrobat: It doesn't delete fields. It clears any information you may have entered into the fields.
Here's what it looks like in InDesign CS6, when I give a Reset button the Clear Form action:

So if I start entering data into the fields, then want to clear those fields, I click on the Reset button, which resets the form. No fields are deleted.

CS6 New iMac non-recognized plug-ins issue.

I have a brand new iMac and when I started using CS6 (transferred from my time machine back up), it was fine for a few days until inDesign started telling me various plugi-ins were not recognized. I had to uninstall, then re-install and it seemed fine for a few days, then started to give me the same non-recognized plu-ins error messages again. What gives? Any suggestions? Think it could be a Mountain Lion issue not an Adobe issue?

What else did you migrate over? There's no telling what you danaged that way.
That said, can you post screenshots of the error messages? Something might just stand out that would let us help you.
