CS6 no longer saves JPEGs as .JPG

Every time I attempt to save output as JPEG, CS6 is substitutes the .eps format and puts up the EPS options dialog.
Has anyone seen this before? What is going on and how can I fix this?

You're on MacOS, and mistakenly copied file format plugins from a previous version of Photoshop.
Go delete all the plugins you copied from a previous version of Photoshop, or turn off the additional plugins folder preference that you pointed to a previous version of Photoshop by mistake.

  • PS CS6 can't save png or jpg getting two errors

Since the update I dowloaded for PS CS6 yesterday, I have been unable to save my psd file to png's or jpg even with one single layer. The two error messages I get are "cannot save file out of memory." and cannot save file because "insert drive and location here" because the file cannot be found. I have 4 drives each not yet half full. Two 4 gig flash drives not yet half full, The scratch disk is allocated to the least used drive.
How do I roll back PS to the previous state?
    joni

I don't have CC and only have the bundle install CD. I usually save to my desktop and then transfer the file onto the flashdrive or into another drive that holds most of my artwork.
But when trying to save a psd file, no matter how many layers (1 to 5) I get the error saying that it cannot save to "e:\user\joni\ etc etc because the file cannot be found" I am just not understanding that error. Although the place I am trying to save to would be the desktop or my secondary drive (not a flash drive but I did try a few time to see if it would even allow it to save there)
How much memory (ram) is needed to allocate to PS in order to operate without having issues?
A month before this new update, we separated the page file system and increased the virtual memory as described in this adobe forum by an expert. Now that seems to be all for nothing! *gaaahhh!!!*
If I must do reinstall, must I deactive the products first before I uninstall them?

  • Since updating to the latest version of Firefox (12) I can no longer save jpegs or other graphic files. I can save them with other browsers.

Firefox does not seem to recognize the graphic asset (the Save As File Type) pull-down bar stays blank. When I select the "All Files" type in the pull-down bar but that doesn't help. I've tried adding the .jpeg to the file name as suggested by another user, but this doesn't help.
No problems like this when I switch to Explorer.

  • Why can I no longer save tiff and jpg files?

Don't know if I inadvertantly changed some setting but all of a sudden every time that I try to save a tiff or jpg file photoshop saves it as just a "file."  I've been using CS5 for about a year now and have never had this problem. Any suggestions?

If you click on Save As and select an option what does it do?
My suggestion if this does not work properly is to reset the preferences.  Hold down the Crtl + Alt + Shift keys and start Photoshop.  You should get a reset window.  It is a little tricky so keep trying until you get it.

  • After renaming a file extention from .jpeg to .jpg I can no longer type ...

After renaming a file extention from .jpeg to .jpg I can no longer type in any of the finder related editable fields/boxes. I can still type in my open applications fields.
This problem also happens when I happen to find a file that has been named, for instance, 2008jpg. When I add the period to have the file read correctly as 2008.jpg, a warning box appears asking - {*Are you sure you want to change the extention from ".jpeg" to ".jpg"?* If you make this change, your document may open in a different application.} Two radio buttons are available within this warning box that read - 1 - {Use .jpg}(it is not color coded, which means it must be selected manually. - 2 - {Keep .jpeg}(it is colored w/my Blue highlight color, which means it will be selected if the Enter Key is used.
The warning box does Not appear if I remove the period from a file and not again when i re-add the period to that same file.
After trying to make these types of edits to the name of any file, with any of the various extentions available for files in our digital world, I usually get an anomaly where myability to type in the Finder ceases to be a possibility.
I have found that I can Force Quit the Finder for a quick fix, but, I'm not sure that this Typing problem should have to be dealt with at all by this quick fix. Is this an issue with the Indexing in Spotlight, which seems to be giving many users problems?

I downloaded and tried EasyFind. It works but it took 30+ seconds to complete finding 3 files that are on One of my Five 25+ Gb partitions of my 130 Gb Seagate Cuda(Really 160 Gb, but my Sawtooth will only recognize 130) I figured that if I ever got a better box, I could reformat it to see the whole 160 Gb. So, as far as I can see, Spotlight's indexing scheme which finds the files instantly is probably preferable. Spot light allows you to rename your files from within it's app window. I've always thought that was pretty powerful. Could my doing so be causing me any issues? As i said it is the inability to Type in the Finder that seemed to be caused from changing file Extentions that were mis-written. Maybe it was a delayed reaction to my renaming files in the Spotlight app? I've done both on occasion.
As for these .DS_Store files. Apparently you can NOT stop them from being written to any folder that you touch/open/view during a days session. But, as a function of the OS, are the essential to have in their respective folders Forever? I've looked at the .DS_Store terminator app briefly and assume that getting rid of these files won't hurt the regular operation of my OS. They will just be re-written if I ever have to go back to any particular folder again. But, apparently, some have said that if the plan on burning a CD or DVD of their data, they delete the .DS_Store files first and then do the burn.
I'm thinking from your having suggested this tremination app that you suspect that my having all of these ,DS_Store files could be a situation where any of them could have become corrupted and terminating them regularly should be part of my regular maintenance.
Does that sound like I'm understanding what I can do?
    TIA

  • Can someone tell me why Photoshop CS5 will no longer save files a jpeg

When I flatten and save image as jpg it results in a file theat I can no longer open with any program. When I try to open it I get "it's not the right kind of document" popup. I may have downloaded some extensions that I shouldn't have - can someone help me? I tried looking for setting defaults as well but can't find that either. Thanks

We don't know anything about your system, but yes, removing potentialyl incompatible plug-ins and extensions would be a start.

  • How to save JPEGs with a clean matte?

From a cut-out image on a transparent background, I use Save for web specifying a black matte to create a JPEG. The resulting image has compression artefacts within the black matte around the image just the same as if the original image had a black background. I can then apply a mask channel copied from the orignal file to the JPEG and fill the matte with black. Delete the mask and Save and I have a JPEG with a matte free of artefacts.
Is there a simple way to achieve the same thing and what's the point of the matte option?

I am currently using .png files with transparent backgrounds and dropshadows. These are significantly larger (2x or 3x) than the equivalent .jpg files so the site loading time is also much longer but, of course, .jpgs don't allow transparency. My sites are in Flash which, via ActionScript, allows me to apply drop shadows at runtime to transparent images. It also allows me to create a transparent bitmap image from a .jpg by setting to transparent all pixels that have the matte colour. Unfortunately, as I described above, not all the pixels in the matte area will retain the matte colour because of the way the JPEG compression is done. As a result, the cut out image created by ActionScript will not have clean edges. I can fix this by the second operation on the .jpg I've described but this process is not easily automated in an Action and one site in particular involves a lot of images!

  • Editing in Photoshop saves jpeg to "Originals", not "Modified"

I recently started using Photoshop CS6 to edit my photos from iPhoto 8.1.2. I've set up the preferences to use CS6 as my external editor, and "Use Raw when using external editor" (I am shooting raw format). The file opens fine in Adobe Bridge, I make my adjustments and bring it into Photoshop.
The problem comes when I try to save - previously, when I chose Save, CS6 knew to save the file back to the "Modified" folder in my iPhoto library. Now, it is saving it back to the "Originals" folder, along with an .xmp file, and of course the edited photo does not show up in iPhoto (neither in enlarged nor thumbnail views). If I choose Save As and try to save it to the Modified folder, I can't complete the path because the iPhoto library is a package and won't open in the Save As browser window.
How to get my save function back on track, so I can save directly back to Modified without having to import the files again?

If you're editing RAW in iPHoto with PS you must save the edited version as a new file outside of iPhoto and import into iPHoto from there.  Only jpegs, tiffs, gifs can be edited in iPhoto by PS and have the normal Save get the edited version in the correct Modified folder.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Save as PSD no longer saves in compatibility mode

When saving a psd file I can no longer save in "compatibility mode". I'm using a Mac computer with OSX (version 10.8.3)  and Photoshop CS6 (version 13.1.2 x64). I just noticed this problem tonight when I tried to bring a psd file into a MUSE project. Now whenever I save a PSD file the menu that asks if I want to save in compatibility mode doesn't appear (it just saves the file). I've reset the preferences and restarted my computer but Photoshop still doesn't give me a compatibility mode option when saving a PSD file.

I'm saving multi layered files (not files with only a background layer) for import into Adobe Muse (normal, roll over, mouse down and active layers). My file handling for "Maximize PSD and PSB file compatibility" is set to ask but I did try changing to always when I started having issues and it didn't change anything. I'm pretty experienced with Photoshop so I've tried the obvious solutions. So far my only fix is to start my project form scratch and I'll be able to save the file correctly. I really think I've triggered a bug at some point in creating my project (changing the image size or something along those lines) because it doesn't always happen.
    Thanks for the suggestion, conroy.

  • Problem with save as .jpg once edited in LR5 and sent to PSE11 to save as a .jpg

Several days ago I bought Lightroom 5 as I have recently started taking pictures in RAW.  I love the process and how it works, pictures look wonderful.  I use Blurb (BookSmart) to create a yearly book which I am in and out of all year long.  When I edit a RAW picture in PSE 11 and save as a .JPG I can export my picture to Blurb.  When I edit my picture in LR5 and send to PSE11 to save as a .jpg I can not export my picture into Blurb.  Does anyone have a reason,?

    Sorry - I am learning
    - In Lightroom after I have completed my development of the picture I
    1.  Right click on the picture and select "Edit in"  I select Edit in Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor  I then select in "edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments"
    2.  The picture will eventually open in PSE as a PSD
    3.  If I am making more adjustments such as the "spot healing" which I like better in PSE  -  I select the spot healing brush - I select the area needing fixing - click on the spot and make the correction
    4.  Once I have finished with any edits I might make in PSE I select "File" - Save As  and select Save As .jpg
    5.  The file at this point has been saved as a .jpg
    6.  In BookSmart (Blurb) I click on their icon for get photos
    7.  I select the file and the photo I want
    8. I select open
    9.  At this point nothing happens - in normal circumstances once I have selected Open - the picture will upload into Blurb (I would normally see the picture upload).
If I do not use Lightroom and open the CRS file in PSE instead
    1.  I open the file with file open select photo which opens picture in PSE
    2.  Photo will open in the RAW editing program within PSE
    3.  I will make any adjustments I want to make
4   I will select "open Image" in the Raw plug in
    5.  The picture will open within the PSE editor
    6.  I will again make any adjustment I might want to make within PSE editor such as the spot healing
    7.  When finished edits I select Edit - File Save As - select .JPG
    8.  As above in Booksmart I select "Get Photos"  - select the photos I want from the file
    9.  Select open
    10.  I will see the picture upload into Booksmart
    11.  The picture is ready to put into the book on the page I want.
I do hope this is what you want - thanks

  • Cannot any longer save new smart collections

Hi, after reinstalling Photoshop CS6 I cannot any longer save smart collections in Bridge. Always I want to create a smart collection by entering criteria, but when I click on SAVE, it is not saved. After some time of waiting, I always have to cancel, to close the pop-up window that should allow me to save the new smart collection. In my old installation (before I had to install a new hard disk), setting up and saving smart collections never was a problem.
ALL updates of CS6 have been installed. And I am under WINDOWS 7. Version of CS6 is: 13.01 x64
Before, I used a regular hard disk for the system, now I have a SSD, plus several hard disks for data storage.
Can anybody help me with advice what the problem is?
    That whould be great. Thanx,

  • Change format: jpeg to jpg

I need to change the format of some photos from jpeg to jpg; not change the extension, but actually change the format.  It's for work and it has to be changed or it won't upload.

    Chorelle wrote:

    Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG
In computing, JPEG (/ˈdʒeɪpɛɡ/ jay-peg)[1] (seen most often with the .jpg or .jpeg filename extension) is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital images, particularly for those images produced by digital photography. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.
The most common filename extensions for files employing JPEG compression are .jpg and .jpeg, though .jpe, .jfif and .jif are also used. It is also possible for JPEG data to be embedded in other file types – TIFF encoded files often embed a JPEG image as a thumbnail of the main image; and MP3 files can contain a JPEG of cover art, in the ID3v2 tag.
Older DOS-based computers were designed to handle a maximum 3-character file extension which is why JPG was attributed to compressed image files. Modern operating systems can handle longer extensions.
