CS6 - No Video Playback or Scrubbing

Hello. Hoping I can get some help here.
I opened up my Premiere Pro this evening to string together two videos - no fancy audio whats it or cuts - just putting two videos together. Premiere Pro worked fine when I opened it - videos loaded fast when I put them in the Timeline and it scrubbed fine. However, I ended up closing the program after a few minutes, as I had to go fix a few things with some files.
When I re-opened Premiere Pro, videos took forever to load when put in the Timeline and there's no Playback whatsoever. Not with scrubbing or with the Spacebar. I hadn't changed any settings. I've looked around and I tried resetting the preferences and just restarting my computer and nothing.
The only notable changes made that could have maybe affected it (based off other accounts) is I updated my graphics drivers and I ran an Adobe Software Update just the other night. I'm not sure if any of those might have screwed anything up, but like I said, it worked fine there for a few minutes. Below are some basics for the computer I'm using which usually runs this program just fine.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 16GB
Hopefully the above information helps and we can find a solution. Many thanks!

A spanned clip is what happens because Mac's can't natively read and write to the superior NTFS file format, so in order to accommodate Mac users, camera makers use the inferior FAT32 file format, which has a 4GB file size limit.  So any clip that runs longer than about 20 minutes will actually take up 2 or more files on the card.  That's called spanning.
It also happens on some cameras that have two card slots.  When the first card is full, the recording switches over to the second.
If it was working before, this probably isn't your problem.
Here we go again    Microsoft did not make NTFS suitable for embedded devices, which is why cameras etc don't support it. It was intended for the server market and high end desktop computers.  It really has nothing to do with Mac (or even Linux, both of which can read/write larger file systems than even NTFS can).
It would be better if cameras supported ExFat, which does support larger file sizes, is more suitable to embedded devices (with lower memory and storage requirements) and can be read/written by all of the Windows / Mac / Linux OS types.
Please don't keep blaming Apple for Microsoft's bloated file system not being suitable for small embedded devices with limited storage space and computing power.  Miscorsoft never intended it for that market.  They should be using ExFat instead.
For reference, there are software plugins for both Mac and Windows that can provide cross platform support.   However, I just format external HDDs to ExFat and happily take data between Mac and Windows all day long without the need to resort to such plugins or get tribal about NTFS or HFS

    Adobe Play Back Problem
I have around 2 hours of footage I need to get through for a class assignment. Unfortunately for some reason whenever I try playing back my footage, it plays for a random short amount of time then stops. Ive tried everything to fix it. The footage is in .mts format, but it doesn't make a difference because I tried .mov footage and it still didnt work. Ive even tried the adobe live chat and it still didn't work, they couldn't figure it out.

Also, there is a CS6 Bug using "spanned" AVCHD files, but so far I am only filming in short segments (under 4 Gig per file) so do not have the problem described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1004369?tstart=0

  • Program Monitor is Black, no video playback after installing new graphics card

I bought a PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card a few days ago, and since it's been installed, I've been unable to watch video playback in my program, source or even reference monitor.
Similarly, If I designate one of my monitors soley for video playback, the screen is just black, and as the timecode advances on my timeline I only hear sound.
My project is using "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration" for Premiere Pro CS6.0.1
I went from using one graphics card to using two graphics cards, and installed a third monitor. I've spent the last few days trying everything I could think of, I even uninstalled and re-installed premiere.
    Hardware Specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
    HP Pavilion h8-1230z
    AMD-FX8150 3.59Ghz 8 core processesor
    16GB RAM
    600W PS
    EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 550Ti
    PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000
I am using a PCI x16 for the Quadro 2000
    I am using a PCI x1 slot w/x1-x16 adapter for the 550Ti
    Could this be the problem?
    Additional Information
Vectorscope, All scopes, YC Waveform - Display modes all work.
I downloaded the most recent Nvidia drivers for both of my cards.
I haven't received any error messages or had any problems in After Effects CS6, as video playback is working properly in my other adobe applications.

I am still building a new system, so currently I'm still using a 480. You can read all about my choices and progress here: Adobe Forums: Planning / building a new system. Part 1
There are 11 entries in the Benchmark Results that succesfully use the GTX 680, even though it is not 'supported'. They all use the 'hack'. However, the 680 has been added to the list of supported cards for AE, so it is only a matter of time before the 680 will be added to the list of supported cards for PR. Todd had made that clear. Now, when the 680 is added, it makes sense that the 670 will also be added. My guess is that both will be added in a short while.

  • Video Playback Issue in Premiere Pro CS6

I am editing a video with 2 video tracks on top of each other. When I scrub through the timeline or jusy hit play in the timeline the top layer of video scales to about 50% and plays on top of the layer below it. But it didn't do that 2 days ago. Any ideas on what could cause that? I have attached a screen capture of what it looks like while playing back. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
::Premiere Pro CS6 (v 6.0.5) and a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.9 on a SSD, and 8GB RAM::

They are both 1280x720 but they were shot on 2 different cameras. The thing that is killing me is that I have done this exact same camera setup and editing before without this issue. And it only scales the top layer video down while scrubbing or playing back (spacebar). When the playhead is still it pops back to normal.

  • No video playback in premiere CS6 trial

    Hi,
I am trying to use the Adobe Premiere CS6 trial on my laptop but I can't get the video playback to display at all. There is audio playback, just no video. I can get a paused frame to show if I double-click on the playback area but pressing play does not make the video play, only the audio. Stopping the playback displays the latest current frame again.
My laptop's specs are as follows:
    Toshiba notebook
    Intel i7 2.40GHz
    8gb RAM
    500+ gb free space
    Windows 8 64
    Latest Intel display drivers installed
The video files I am importing in my sequence are .mov files, 1920x1088 @ 23 FPS.
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thanks for your time,

  • Slow/unresponsive video playback, media pending, after CC'14 October update

Encountering a strange issue after the October update. It's a project carried over from the previous CC'14 version, nothing crazy, about an 18 minute timeline of video/.mov clips straight off a JVC GY-HM600U with simple RGB curves/masks on some clips, some Prores422 clips of graphics exported out of After Effects, a couple nested sequences featuring simple text w/ cross dissolves, and a lower 3rd Quicktime with RGB+Alpha. There are some linked AE comps in the project but not in the sequence. Ran fine before update. Here's my system, obviously no CUDA so Mercury Playback is software only:
Upon opening the project everything is fine, playback is smooth, scrubbing from beginning to end no problem. After a period of time, 10-15 minutes? Suddenly video playback hangs up, with audio continuing to play after . Opening a clip in the Source window displays the Media Pending thumbnail, after 15 seconds it seems to find the media but again it's only a still frame with video hanging up. Then audio seems to hang up and I can't do anything. I can still manipulate the UI but scrubbing through the timeline is completely unresponsive, pressing play does nothing.
Quitting the program seems to freeze it, the window closes but it stays lit up in my dock and shows Application Not Responding, causing me to force quit.
A system reboot yesterday seemed to clear the issue up for the remainder of the work day but it's back today. Not sure where the issue is coming from, but seems like some kind of memory leak or something similar since it seems to be a gradual degradation in performance. I'll have to roll back to a previous version to finish up this project until things are fixed.

    Hello,
Many thanks for your very long reply and your interest in my problems.
I shall try to answer you :
    - 1) OS :  Windows 7 64 bits Pro SP1, french,
                     Version : 6.1.7601.18247 (Win7RTM)
                     Framework.NET : 4.0.30319.18408 built by : FX451RTMGREL)
                     DirectX : 11.0,
                     OpenGL : 6.1.7600.16385 (Win7_rtm.090713-1255).
    - 2) Yes the media pending goes away but after a couple of minutes (one
year ago I was using PP CS6 and Encore CS6, I never had this problem
    even with very long files),
    - 3) Yes my GPU driver is updated (Nvidia GeForce 332.21 dated 12/19/2014).
I never had thiese problems with PP CS6 + Encore CS6 and my projects
built with these PP ans Encore version were with the same structure and
length (in PP CS6 : sequences up to 45 minutes, in Encore CS6 chapters
    up to the same time).
The difference between are in my hardware :
    - the RAM was upgraded from 12 GB to 24 GB,
    - the CPU was overclocked from 3,2 GHz (default) to 3,88 GHz).
    - 4) I shall try up to the disk burn to check if the problem is just due
    to display of "animated buttons".
I hope my answer will be usefull for you.

    Jacques Gourier.

  • Video playback in Cp6

Has anyone had issues with video playback in 6? I have MP4 videos that continue to play after a user has navigated away from the page. This results in two audio tracks playing simultaneously. We have removed any direct video controls and have the videos autoplay when the user enters the slide. Further, I have removed the playbar, as it seemed that scrubbing the slide was affecting the video playback. We are using the CoolBlue skin and playback panel.
    Any advice?
    Jon

    Hi there,
Captivate 6.0.1.240 is not tested on Windows 8, only the latest release that is 6.1.0.319 is tested on Windows 8.
Are you viewing your project from inside the zip?
To test it locally unzip that zipped folder and then play course and check whether there is any difference?
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS6 - transfer video .psd to another pc

    Hello all,
I am new to the community and hope that someone can help me out.  I have been doing a video timeline project for a college course using Photoshop CS6.  I have my file saved and updated on my laptop.  I attempted to transfer this file to another computer to continue working on it, but unfortunately when I open it on the other computer it only loads one frame and does not load the timeline.  I have ensured that all files are present in their original location but the problem persists.
Any ideas as to if there is a step I am missing when I save my file on the original PC?

Nah. You are missing some CoDec or the system isn't up to snuff to provide hardware acceleration for video playback and only shows the poster frame as it is saved in the file. Since you have not provided any relevant technical info, we can't know anything beyond that.

  • Problem with mac os x lion audio mute and web video playback

    I have a 15" MacBook Pro I7
Strangest thing started happening ever since I installed Adobe Masters Collection Trial Version CS6.
Randomly, and I can pinpoint exactly when, all of a sudden I will loose my sound.  The muting goes off and I can't get it back on again no matter what I try.  Then I loose web-video playback.  Nothing will playback beyond 11 seconds.  I followed all the support community advice on how to handle this situation with no luck.  Resetting the SCM does nothing.  The ONLY way I can fix it is with a re-install of Mac OS X Lion!  I've reinstalled twice (fixed the problem both times) but the problem just keeps coming back.
I'm guessing it's a software issue of somesort but I'm not exactly sure what the problem is or how to fix it.  Any advice?

Slight Update. I found a guy with my EXACT problem here.  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4103108?start=0&tstart=0  Go to this discussion for further details.

  • No video playback in the timeline

Hello guys, I have a huge problem, running premiere pro cs6. There is no video playback at all in the timeline, I only see a frozen frame, while the sound is working well. I was trying it with most compression formats (also low resolution material), it's always the same.My system  is a  Toshiba Satellite P875-31R 43,9 cm (17,3 Zoll) Notebook (Intel Core i7 3630QM, 2,4GHz, 16GB RAM, 750GB HDD, 128GB SSD, NVIDIA GT 640M, Blu-ray, Win 8). I was sure, it's working well. Does anybody know a possible solution? Thank you very much

....whoa!!!!.....with that machine.....ordinarily, this should NOT be happening!!!!
    Simple things to check :
    1. Is newest driver installed for your video card ???  download and install from NVidia website, if necessary.
    2. If your machine has " Intel Integrated Graphics" on the motherboard.....it may need to be turned off in BIOS to allow NVidia card to run.
    3. Is your 750GB HDD a 7,200 rpm drive??....if 5400RPM put it in an external dock or enclosure to archive or backup stuff ....replace with Crucial M4 large SSD or Seagate momentus 750GB Hybrid HDD.
    4. Is laptop setup properly ? :
        a. turn off indexing and compression on all drives
        b. OS, programs, and windows page file are only things to go on "C" drive....move all else to other drive
        c. Is SSD suffering from "write degradation performance??"  Check performance by watching Windows performance monitor while transferring a large file between
HDD and SSD....test write speed in both directions.  If HDD is 7200 RPM, it will limit this performance to ~ 105 to 110 MB per second....if 5400RPM  can be far,far
less!!  Make sure HDD is less than half full and defragmented!
        d. Is machine tuned??...remove unnecessary programs running in background.
    5. Is PPro set properly :
        a. With SSD....project files can go on SSD "C" drive....even media cache and previews, too, ( because of SSD speed.....not normally done). Compare with "D" for them.
        b. Use "new item" icon to create your sequence to make sure timeline matches your footage, ( i.e. frames per sec., aspect ratio, etc.)
        c. Make sure your NVidia card is "enabled" to work with PPro by applying the well discussed here "hack", or, visit Studio North website to use a simple program to
do it for you. Then, check in project settings that "Mercury Playback Engine" is selected to accelerate editing performance, (NOT 'software only" ). This "MPE" will
speed rendering previews and rendering output by accelerating certain functions, ( dissolves, color correction, scaling, etc.).
       d. What codec(s) are you working with ??? If they are "RED" or 4K you may be overwhelming your machine. Even common DSLR codecs are very taxing on an i7
laptop.   You may need to transcode clips to DNxD Windows codec, or similar, to edit.
In general...."Occums Razor" suggests that the simplest answer usually applies.....something like just the correct video card driver !!!    Good Luck !!!

  • No Video Playback to Canon DV Cam

Hello I am using Premiere Pro CS6 and having an issue with video playback out to my digital video cam. Here are the specs and what I have done thus far to try to figure out the problem.
I am using a MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8
I am going out  using a firewire into a CANON NTSC VR20 DV Cam.
I have gone into Preferences and Device Control and set to DV, NTSC.
I have tried using a jpg to see if that would show up in the camera and it does not.
I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the firewire, restarting the application and starting again.
Also, I am able to capture the video from my camera I just can't see it in the camera viewfinder (or record it) when I play it on my timeline. I can hear the audio on my timeline coming out without an image (just a black screen). I also tried exporting via tape and there is no image when I do that either, it just records a black screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what might be the problem that I am having? So frustrated! Thank You

This happens with AVI or Quicktime files.

It sounds like you might be hitting the space bar in hopes of getting real time playback.  Sorry, but AE doesn't work like that, because it does totally different things from an editing application like Premiere.
And if you've downloaded the tryout version, you really ought to learn how AE works... and a short description is "it doesn't work intuitively".  You can frustrate yourself in a hurry.

  • Bizarre issues with Premiere CS5.5 and CS6 (Laggy video and random resizing)

Hey, I've searched all over the internet and no one seems to have the same problem as me. What happens is I will "render entire work area" in CS6 but the video playback is still laggy. I never had this problem in CS5.5, and that was running off a pretty old system. I recently upgraded to an SSD and now have a Core i7 processor with 16GB of RAM. This should not be happening. So as an experiment I put the same footage into CS5.5 and had no lag issues, but now for some reason the videos get resized every time I render. I can get them back to their original size by making them 101%, but then I need to re-render. What can I do to fix these problems?
Adittional info: I have used multiple clips and codecs, always get the same problem.

  • Playback problems - Video playback stops after 1 second (CS5)

    Hello forum,
i recently got huge problems with video playback. The video stops playing after rougly one second and the last frame freezes. After that, Premiere won't show any frames when scrubbing through the sequene. It just shows the freezed frame and the whole program just becomes terribly slow.
Sometimes the playback is just fine, but in some cases the playback error occures randomly. I experienced that the error happens even more frequenly when  Flash Player plays back a video in the background, e.g. a youtube video.
Maybe the playback errors happen because my harddrive is almost full (1,5TB capacity, 300 GB left)? Or is it because of a few plugins ( e.g. filmconvert)?
I run Windows 7, Premiere CS5 on an I7 860 2,8 Ghz quad core CPU with 8 GB of RAM and a nvidia 460 GPU.
    Thanks for your help.
