CS6 not saving icons or thumbnails

My Photoshop CS6 has suddenly stopped saving icons.  I've re-checked preferences/file handling, restarted, etc  Nothing.  Any advice greatly appreciated.

When Photoshop starts acting odd and you have not upgraded your OS, try a Preferences reset.
Hold down Ctrl-alt-shift/cmd-opt-shift and start Photoshop. Delete the settings file when asked.
See if that fixes it.

  • Photoshop CS6 not saving

I am using Windows 7 with an i7 core and 18gb of RAM. I recently purchased a CC subscription.
In Photoshop CS6 I have noticed that at times after having saved a .psd file, after I come back to it later the changes are gone. At first I thought perhaps I fogot to save, but last night I saved several photos I had been restoring and was careful I did save them. This morning once again the changes on one of the photos were not saved, they had reverted to the original file before the restoration was done.
Has anyone else noticed this problem? What could be causing it?

Well, they never save properly on the operating system level or something on your system is restoring older versions of files. There's literally a gigazillion potential causes like PS's own recovery mode restoring files, because the app crashes on exit, Windows' system restore, backup tools, virus scanners interferring in the safe process, permissions issues preventing file writes or even genuine hardware issues with your harddrive and its controller. Impossible to know. Definitely not a general PS fault. If at all, I might imagine something being awry with history states, but that would still be fixable by simply picking the correct state on the saved file...

  • InDi CS6 not saving prefs

    Hi
All of a sudden my InDesign is not saving my prefs
I set/change prefs with all documents closed but still when reopen Indesign, all prefs are reset.
I did have to reset my prefs about a week ago, but I am not sure if thats when it started...
I use in-tools preference manager script to restore my prefs... but its driving me crazy to have to do it each time InDi opens!!
If anyone can help me with this I would really appreciate it
    Thanks
    Davey

    hi Davey,
Have you run Utilities > Disk Utility and tried 'Verifying Permissions' ... what comes up? If there are errors, click 'Repare Permissions'.
If that doesn't work try the following...
Create a new user account on your computer:
Open System Preferences and Click Users & Groups.
Click the lock to make changes (you'll be prompted for your password)
Under Login Options, click the +
and Create a New User Account.
Set New Account to: 'Administrator', and fillin the rest of the fields, click Create User.
Now please Log-out of your current user account and log-in with the new account:
Apple menu > Log Out [username]
Launch InDesign and try to change some preferences, then close InDesign.
Relaunch InDesign and see if the preferences are retained.
Now try and create a new document, and change some document specific preferences, and save document, and close InDesign.
    Relaunch InDesign.
    Are the preferences retained?
IF they are, then there is something not quite right on your present user-account.
If you are 'daring' enough on your current log-in -- and this is a 'at your own risk comment ;-) :
/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences  Rename the 'Adobe' folder in her 'Adobe.old' and rename the 'Adobe InDesign' folder 'Adobe InDesign.old'.
Still in preferences... scroll down to com.adobe.InDesign.plist and rename 'old.com.adobe.InDesign.plist'.
If this still doesn't fix things...  and this is also an 'at your own risk' thing to do - I'd suggest you do this with the help of a Mac expert.
Rename the entire Preferences folder  Preferences.old
To learn about which preferences are document vs applicaiton based - Mike Rankin wrote a visual guide for InDesign prferences, that outlines which are application and document preferences (it's for CS5.5, but should be ok to work from as well) - see http://indesignsecrets.com/a-visual-guide-to-indesign-preferences.php

  • Flash CS6 not saving.

Failed to open document message when I save the file. We need to be able to save to our server. I work on a Mac  Pro and recently upgraded to Mavericks: should I downgrade?

ASk in the Flash forum and be much more precise. The info you have provided is mostly useless since you haven't said anything about your server, your network config, naming conventions etc..

  • Downloads of updates not saving, no prompts or icons in the Application folder-how do I ensure updates are saved?

I am following the instructions to download v 6 but receive no prompt to move the Firefox icon to the applications folder. I have done that anyway, but it's not saving-the latest version is July 11. I then get reminders to update all the time-what am I doing wrong?
I am working on a Mac laptop

A lot of people panic when they see Photoshop displaying differently from other software. But that's normal and expected. Here's what happens:
    1. Photoshop is color managed and performs a document profile > monitor profile conversion when it displays. So whatever the document profile is, Photoshop will display correctly - unless you have CM policies set to "off" (...!)
    2. Other applications, including many web browsers, aren't color managed and will just send the file numbers directly to the display. This distinction is extremely important, because there will be a slight difference. Again, that's normal. Photoshop is right and the other apps are wrong.
    3. Without color management, it all hangs on how your monitor displays color. Most monitors are so close to sRGB that any sRGB file will display roughly correctly. This is why sRGB is the de facto web standard: it can live without color management. And that's why you should always convert web material to sRGB. Yes, that's the Edit > Convert to Profile option. You can also use Save For Web to do this if you check the appropriate boxes.

  • Preview icon not showing when in thumbnail. (Sketchu

    Hello,
I recently updated my MBP to Yosemite and installed sketchup on it.
The preview icon of my sketchup files are not showing when in thumbnail. But as i increase the size of the icon from thumbnail in viewoption i.e from 64px x 64px to 124px x 124px it shows. So my icon is shown as blank without any app logo. Also when i change my view from thumbnail to coverflow or something it shows. Otherthan thumbnail everything works.
So where is the error in it?
    Please help...
    Thanks
    Amar

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Rest. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

When I close CS6 changes in settings are not saved.  Reverts to default settings on reopen.  Why?

Sorry Photoshop --  Problems solved -- I read the details -- turns out you need to make changes with no files open for the preferences to apply to all files.

  • Display JPEG files not on desktop as thumbnails, not generic icons

I understand from previous forum entries that bringing up menu with command-J and checking "show icon preview" will display image files ON THE DESKTOP as thumbnails. This has worked fine for me. However, most of my image files are not on the desktop.
How do I get the system to display all JPEGs and other images not on the desktop as thumbnails. These are in folders, either on the startup volume or on other volumes.
My son who is a PC user was surprised that my Mac image folders contained all those generic icons and not thumbnails, like he is used to on his PC.
Hope there is an easy answer to this, and I greatly appreciate your help.

I have continued working on this issue since I posed the question, and discovered that I have to have my images in "icon display", not "list display" (which I have usually used).
When I changed to icon display, the menu from command-j allowed me to display all my icons as thumbnails.
The menu (command-j) from the list display doesn't give that option, so I was stumped until I stumbled on to this detail.
Thanks again to all who have helped me in the past on these forums. You're the best.

  • Illustrator CS6 is not saving user-created workspaces

I have created a workspace to save for all of our users to utilize, but it is not saving. When I re-start Illustrator the created workspace is selected but is not coming up as it was saved. Is this a glitch, or am I missing something?

    Wayne,
You have used Type>Create Outlines, with no live Type left behind (after saving the original artwork, of course), no?
What if you Save As PDF, thus embedding the font(s), and they take it from there?

  • Bridge CS6 not reading file metadata

    Bridge CS6 5.0.2.4, Mac OS X 10.9.2, Photoshop 13.0.6 x64.
In Bridge, only the File Properties info appears. Data for other categories such as IPTC Core and Camera Data (Exif) no not appear although checked in Preferences, but after opening a file in Photoshop the info is all there in the File Info window. If I try to append or replace data using a template, the choice is grayed out. Keywords I have created in the past appear in the metadata window, but none are checked for saved files. Thumbnails are also very slow to build. Even reading old files from a CD in Bridge fails to show data like EXIF.
I've tried deleting and rebuilding the cache, trashing prefs, no help.
Maybe this is caused by a problem with OS X 10.9.2? I don't believe I had this problem before thatchange a few weeks ago.
    Thanks for any help, Ross

For legacy files, which seem to be pre-2007, the metadata fields seem to be read-only, I can't enter or change a field such as description, for example. Even newer folders have spotty reliability, some files show metadata and others don't.
I restored my cache from a backup and that helped some, but didn't really solve the problem. Next I guess I'll try to restore my boot drive. The CS6 installation (not CC) was via a download, so I'm not sure how to reinstall that, and I don't want to lose all my customized windows, keywords, etc.

  • Sending messages but not saving to server

Since updating to Lion I've been able to use the Mail client to access Yahoo! Mail (the free version, not Yahoo! Mail Plus) for the first time.
Mail is receiving and sending mail fine but messages composed and sent within Mail are not saving to the Yahoo! server.
Within the Preferences the "store sent messages on the server" is checked.
The Mail Connection Doctor has green lights.
I sent myself a test message using a different email address (within the mail client) which did store on the server.
    Any ideas?

The CS6 icons are exactly as Apple requested them.
Apple are publicly advising developers to use application and document icons which contain a pyramid of images from 16 x 16  to 1024 x 1024 pixels, the largest size being intended for Retina displays.
You have stated in another thread that the Photoshop CS6 change from previously-compliant icons of CS5 to new less-useful and non-compliant icons is because Apple requested the change in preparation for Retina.
The request is clearly illogical, therefore there seems a high probability of a communication error between Apple and Adobe, or a mistake by someone at Apple or by someone at Adobe.
Will the icons in the next Ps update be compliant with Apple's public guidelines?

  • Sent Messages are not saved in Sent Mailbox

It was working correctly but suddenly all my sent messages are not saved in the Sent Mailbox. I follow all the Mail Help instructions but nothing seems to work. Hope that someone can help me. I asked for help on december 14 but it was not helpful

The mailboxes drawer contains all mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (if you have Junk Mail set to automatic).
If you have a .Mac or IMAP type account, you also have an account named icon for the .Mac or IMAP type account at the bottom of the mailboxes drawer. It is named by the Account Description you provided/entered for the account under the Account Information tab for the account preferences.
If you select save Sent messages on the server for a .Mac or IMAP type account, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under the account named icon in the mailboxes drawer along with all other server stored mailboxes.
To open the account named icon for your .Mac account to reveal the server stored mailboxes including the account's Sent mailbox, select the black triangle beside your .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer pointing it down.
Select the account's Sent mailbox and at the menu bar, go to Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For and select Sent.
If you deselect store Sent messages on the server for the account preferences, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under Sent in the mailboxes drawer and you can't use "Use This Mailbox For" for mailboxes stored locally on the hard drive. It can only be used for .Mac or IMAP type account mailboxes that are stored on the server.

  • Selectable map not saved in fillable PDF form file

Hi all, I have a problem with a document (it's a book for children) which has been created using InDesign CS6 on Macintosh. I need to make a fillable form (which is not a problem) and I have applied the "Extended Features for Acrobat Reader". I guess the client uses Acrobat Reader for Windows.
The problem comes when the client asks me to include a map where the pupils can select the countries, and that I have solved using buttons that show/hide these countries. It works fine, but when the client fills the form and saves the document, the map doesn't save the selected fields.
How can I make it work properly? I also tried creating a "SAVE MAP" button, but unfortunately, Acrobat only applies this feature to the current state when I create the document, NOT when the client clicks on this "SAVE MAP" button. Is there another solution, please?
And there's still more... In another page, the pupils must select 5 words, and the problem remains the same... the selected fields are not saved.
    I hope I've explained myself correctly, I know it's a bit confusing.
    Thanks in advance!!

If you will be adding up the mileage reimbursement amounts you might need to round the result of the calculation to 2 decimal places and that will require a custom JavaScript calculation. Using unrounded values can result with an answer that does not add up to the displayed value.
Using the simplified field notation also requires that field names meet a very specific format. The field names need to start with an alphabetic character and it cannot have any white space character in the name unless some additional coding is done. These restrictions are a result of processing the formula string with JavaScript and how the data string is parsed for processing.

  • Keynote (and other iWork apps) not saving properly!

    Hi all
I have had some strange problems over the last few weeks where I get messages telling me that iWork (usually Numbers) cannot save the files as 'something else' is using the file.  So I click 'save anyway' and I get strange files in folders, ie folder and file name is the original name plus some gooblygook.
I have got round this by deleting the 'extras' and carrying on.  But now I am preparing a major presentation in Keynote and suddenly it is not saving graphics some of the time!
For example I was working on a slide - and suddenly got a message that 'some problems occured' -
    Couldn’t save image. - image.png (Slides: 12, 13, 17, 18; Skipped slide count: 1)
    Couldn’t save image. - image.png (Slides: 12, 13, 17, 18; Skipped slide count: 1)
I have been working with this presentation for some time and have never encountered any problems - passing between my laptop and my iPad to review and modify (mainly viewing on the iPad and editing on the MacBook).
Any ideas what is happening?  I have a major presentation to give in just over a week and I don't want to use PowerPoint!
    Thanks
    Ian

I've been having some success NOT using any files that have previous images or audio in them, starting from a base template and then adding audio and video and photos that are already on my hard drive, not previous Keynote files. Today I needed five slides that were part of another deck and, you guessed it, they were corrupted (or missing) when I reopened the file, only the thumbnails remaining.
I closed the original Keynote file, placed a zip extension, then control- clicked to see the contents. The images were missing from the package. I then replaced the extension with .key and reopened in Keynote. The audio file had been there but not the images or the drawing, which I then searched for.
Yes, delete the weird file backups and make a backup of the original in the finder. Then lock it! (You're using Mountain Lion?)
I have a huge presentation tomorrow. I have five backups, including on a thumb drive.
    How much longer Apple?
