CS6 on an iMac

I recently picked up a new gig as an editor/motion graphics designer at a post house.  They're all Mac and it's time for me to get a workstation there.  I've offered to build a PC, but they are really set on sticking with Mac.  (For the record, I already know the advantages of a custom built PC over a Mac for Premiere... which is why I use one as my personal system at home.)
Mac towers are out of budget, so how realistic is editing on an iMac?  I generally have Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects open at the same time, jumping back and forth from each.  I'm just starting to dive into Blender for 3D.  I mainly work on motion graphics there.
Does the GPU trick work with Mac AMD cards?  Unless I'm missing it, Apple doesn't sell an iMac that meets Adobe's MPE specs.  I make pretty heavy use of hardware accelerated MPE with my 2GB GTX 560 Ti on my PC.  Would like that benefit on Mac.  Is an iMac basically laptop components?  Is it possible to install a GeForce card myself in an iMac?
Thanks!

And I currently doubt that we will ever be able to have a Mac version
I have seriously tried to find a way to gather our PPBM data on OSX for the past few weeks and the technology tool that we use on Windows is to access the date/time that the encoded file creates and subtract that from the modified time and this gives us the elapsed time that you see in the results.  Well it so happens that any UNIX/Linux/OSX file does not have a created time.  Now I know that AME creates an elapsed time in a log file, but with PPBM5 we have no way to find a MPE-on/MPE-off ratio.  Both Harm and I have explored other options for PPBM6 and I actually have found a great one but it requires direct export from Premiere and that does not (to our knowledge) create a log file.  I was just about to build a "Hackintosh" installation on a system that would have dual-boot capabilities when the lack of a created time feature defeated the whole project.  I actually have an OSX disc on my desk in front of me.
The high end Ivy Bridge processor at 2.7 GHz in the MacBook Pro currently is (as you might expect) not as good as the i7-2600 3.4 GHx Sandy Bridge processor.  Both can have up to 16 GB of RAM (at a price)

  • How use my indesign CS6 on both iMac and Macbook Pro

Wish to copy my indesign CS6 from my iMac to my Macbook Pro.  Have downloaded CS6 3.5 gb from Adobe but will not open and does not show in my applications folder.  My idd document is on desktop but is gray and has green letters: exec.  Help!

You cannot copy or migrate a copy of InDesign from one computer to another. Adobe applications install a host of files in various locations which are not properly installed.
You must either use the installer file which you originally received or downloaded. You can also download CS6 again from this location:
    Other downloads
Unfortunately, before you can do that, you'll have to remove the components you copied to your second computer. You can use this Adobe Cleaner tool to do that:

Alibutlerdesigns you will use the same process to install on your second computer.  You can copy the installation files using a USB drive if you do not wish to download the installation files again.

  • Photoshop CS6 and the iMac

    Hello,
I use Photoshop CS6 on a 2009 MacBook Pro and it runs great. I have 8GB of RAM
I am going to be purchasing a 27" iMac soon, but i have heard there are a lot of problems with Photoshop and Mavericks working together.
I am a computer novice so i am wondering if i should wait to get the iMac or if with a new machine and a new version of Photoshop CS6 i will be able to use Photoshop CS6 on the new iMac without any issues.
Please let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks so much,

Photoshop CS6 is compatible with OS X Mavericks, but it is true that there are issues. See > https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5475799
As you can see, there are tricks that have worked for some users, so it is up to you to wait or to get the iMac now. Adobe may release Photoshop CS6 updates in the future to make it work better in Mavericks

  • Unable to reinstall Bridge CS6 or Photoshop CS6 on new iMac - Unable to find Uninstall anywhere in Library or Utilities

I just purchased a new iMac.  Our previous iMac finally "died" and we had to have the data recovered from hard drive and transferred to the new iMac.  I am now unable to open Bridge CS6 or Photorshop CS6.  Message says I need to reinstall.  But when going to Utilities, am unable to find Adobe Installer or Uninstall in any files or folders.  Anxious  to get back to using Bridge and Photoshop - HELP - and Thanks!!

No, you're never going to find it there.
In CS6, the Adobe uninstaller is inside the Adobe Photoshop CS6 folder, which in turn is inside the Root Applications folder.

  • Re-installing Photoshop CS6 on new iMac problem.

I transferred my Photoshop CS6 to a new iMac Retina running OSX 10.10.1, having taken care to deactivate on the old Mac first and then reactivated on the new.  Photoshop comes up with an error message now each time I launch saying that "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder, necassary for running Photoshop, are missing.  Please run the Photoshop installer and re-install Photoshop."  So I did just that with my original installer disc.  At the end of that process it said that there had been some errors and referred me to a log file which said:
Despite all this Photoshop seems to be working, but every time I launch it I get the same error message.   I've not used it enough since the move to the new Mac to discover if any other faults have developed.  As well as using my original install disc I also tried downloading the CS6 installer from the adobe.com site but exactly the same thing happens.  I would welcome suggestions for a fix...

Alas, this did not work. I first of all tried the reinstall in Safe Boot mode and at the end of the process exactly the same install error message as shown above.  I then moved to the part of those instructions that said to ditch Adobe AIR and reinstall it.  AIR was not visible anywhere on my machine, nor did that folder /Volumes/Adobe Master Collection exist.  Maybe there's a difference between what CS6 installs compared with the CS5 your instructions refer to (?).  So I went back to the Adobe.com downloads page, got Adobe AIR and installed it - during that it told me it was upgrading my AIR (wherever that was hidden - Find file could not see it) to version 16.  Otherwise no reported errors.  I went a step further and used the Uninstall tool to remove the existing CS6 installation, then tried reinstalling Photoshop - again same issue, same error.  So I'm no further forward after several hours of trying different things.
    Any more ideas please?

  • Can't open PS CS6 after updating iMac to 10.9.5

After I updated my iMac to 10.9.5, I can no longer open PS CS6. When I try to open it, i get a pop up asking me to subscribe to CC for $29.99 p/ month.  Also, when the pop up comes up, Adobe Application Manager opens with the CC request.  I've been using CS6 for two years and now I can't open it. I do NOT have a trial version, I have the entire CS6 suite and nothing else will open, either.  I tried moving my preferences to the desktop but it still didn't work. Adobe has NO customer support for anything lower than CC.  I was thinking about deleting and then reinstalling PS, but that seemed a little scary.  If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

  • Has anyone had any problems with their PSDs getting corrupted using CS6 on an iMac?

I  bought my iMac (Refurbished 21.5-inch iMac 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5) in February. Installed CS6 and other programs including fonts I normally use. Last night though, as I was saving my layouts to PSD and JPG, I noticed the graphics were corrupted and had funky neon lines and converted my white coloured text to black! I restarted my computer, changed the colours back to white, re-saved and they (gladly) turned out normal again. I've never had this problem with my CS5 in my 2009 Macbook Pro. I was told by a friend that it could be the fonts I installed.. So I validated my fonts, removed the ones with the yellow warnings.. but I'm just worried this will happen again if I can't resolve the problem properly. I have no clue how to resolve this. Thoughts? Help?

  • Installing CS6 onto new imac from upgrades

    Hi
I am wanting to install CS6 onto a new imac via the cloud. The CS6 I have is in disc format and is an upgrade from CS65.5.
CS5.5 is also an upgrade from CS4.
How do I install CS6 onto a new imac when I cant get install the original due to no CD drive?  Going mad!!

    Hi DonnaOxon,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums!
Even if you have the CD version of CS6 you can  still download and install CS6 from the cloud. During the installation it will first ask you to enter the serial number for CS6 and on the next step it will automatically ask you to enter the serial number for CS5.5.
The product will be licensed and installed once you enter these serial numbers correctly.
    Thanks

  • Adobe CS6 and Retina iMac

    Hi
Has anybody had any experience of the Adobe CS6 Creative Suite package and it's compatibility with the new Retina iMac?
Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Regs
    K

    Here is what I have:
MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch (late 2013)
Mac OS 10.9.5 (also have 10.10 partitions on this system)
    PrPro CS6 (v. 6.0.5 - 001)
as well as AI, Br, Au, ID, Pl, PS CS6 and several others (basically , the CS6 collection + Acrobat, but not Lightroom
So we're close enough in setup to be reasonably sure that it's not specific to that. At this point I recommend going through this basic list of troubleshooting steps, if you have not already:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
    Reboot
