CS6 questions

1) If I buy a boxed version (new, internally or externally), will I also get a downloadable version at adobe.com?
2) Is an individual permitted to purchase multiple licenses for that own individual's use on more than 2 computers? For example, if I purchase Photoshop CS6, and then purchase Master Collection CS6 (which includes Photoshop CS6), will I then be able to use Photoshop CS6 on 4 computers?

Will the CS6 downloads be available indefinitely? Downloads for CS5/etc. no longer seem to be available at adobe, and I wonder if the CS6 downloads will disappear too in the near future now that CC is out. Just looking at possible resolutions for scenarios such as a damaged DVD-ROM, etc.
Presumably if one purchased the downloadable version it will always be available to download online via the account, whereas that's not necessarily the case with the boxed version?

  • Want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but CS6 questions about Auto-Save need answers...

    Hi,
I'm on Mountain Lion for all my "non-critical" work, but I'm still running the latest Snow Leopard on my main desktop machine, running CS6 Design & Web Premium. I've avoided the switch primarily because of the auto-save feature that Apple placed into ML. I haven't found a satisfactory answer anywhere on the web to this basic question...is auto-save a problem, as Apple implements it, with CS6 and working on images?
In particular: 1. I work on very larger files, 4GB+ in size regularly, and I don't wan't the peformance hits associated with constant saving, 2. I make changes to images, downsizing them, croping, color corrections, etc. so that I can make jpg proofs for clients or myself. These are more "intermediary" images and not intended to be saved. I don't want to downsample an image, flatten it to creat a jpg for proof and have it overwrite the original image layered, high res by mistake. Does this happen with photoshop, or does Adobe avoid the auto-save that Apple uses?
I have all the latest iOS gadgets and it's becoming quite cumbersome managing multiple sets of iCloud info, etc. without being on ML. I'd like to make the switch, but at the cost of losing work, etc. Can someone with experience on ML & CS6 give me any input in the matter? And, does this also apply to all the other Adobe apps in CS6? I'm constantly making minor changes and edits that I usually "undo" out of and don't want saved.
    Thanks.
    Craig

So, in other words, photoshops behavior works the same, using save as..., etc. as it did under Snow Leopard? I should expect the auto-save behavior that occurs in apps like iPhone, etc., where i can actually lose the original because of the constant backups, etc.?
    Thanks.

  • Update CS6 question After effects & co

I plan on upgrading my system meaning a clean new install with Mavericks, so far I'm with Lion,
So I read I need at least the Adobe After Effects CS6 11.0.3 Update,
so, do I need to just install one update or do I have to go thru all of them ? 11.0.1 then 11.0.2 then 11.0.3 ?
Does this applies to other soft like Photoshop, Premiere Pro etc from CS6 ?
thanks in advance & sorry for this newbie question, just need to be sure.

Updates for Mavericks are linked to from here:

  • Upgrading to CC from CS6 question

Currently I use CS6 for my  projects. I've recently found out that CS6 doesn't support certain video  cards for GPU acceleration; i.e. AMD Radeon video cards. I use AMD  Radeon HD 6970.
But I heard that CC now supports most AMD cards (my video card is on the list according to the FAQ)
So, if I upgrade to CC. Will it render my projects faster?
    My projects are mostly 2d.
I also use AAE for my projects for special effects
    Thanks in advance.

I read this post on another forum by Harm Millaard:
I've been busy writing articles about hardware choices for editing with Premiere Pro, as you may have seen here: Tweakers Page
I hope it is a treasure cove for people looking for a new machine and doubting the suggestions they have been given, or want some background info on how to setup a balanced system for their editing needs.
I'm still on CS6, which was paid for in full before CC arrived and I see no reason yet to change to either Avid or Edius, since CS6 does what I need it for. Upgrading to CC makes no sense, since I'm only editing HD and have no need for XAVC or H.265 yet. Just staying on MC CS6, which I upgraded to for $ 480 and is a perpetual license, saved me around $ 450 in 11 months by not going the CC route. Monthly savings here are around $ 85 by NOT subscribing to CC. Those savings come in handy, when you need a good shoulder rig (Vocas) for the camera, XF300.
I think that sums it up nicely. But he will still have to hold that stance for another 10 months to break-even on that shoulder rig, according to my calculations. Then he will have it for free, compared to a CC subscription.

  • ID CS6 questions - TOC

I had a word doc which I needed to convert to epub. I first went from word to Sigil and it looked pretty good as Sigil retained all the styles, then I went to validate  and I saw the TONS of errors. I had just finished a .id to .interactive .pdf and remembered I had the Kindle plug in for ID, so I selected ALL the text in the word doc ( I had converted it to html first) and started pasting the text on each page as I made 20 pages and command clicked to load the cursor. A bit of work but when it was done I added the cover and did a guided export. The first time I did I got a warning about the cover being too small. Once I corrected and exported again I never got any warning or confirmation message that the file was done. So I opened and checked in EPub Checker and I got no errors. Opened in Kindle Fire and it looks stunning! So before I start dancing around I need some info here first,
is it normal when exporting using the Kindle plug in if there are no errors that No warning comes up?
second, is there an easier way to select all the text from the word doc while using the loaded cursor and automatically copying the text into the linked text boxes?
    thx

There was an Adobe tech demo some time ago showing an export to HTML5 which dynamically retains liquid layout capabilities in the browser. The demo was pre-CS6, so I'm guessing they didn't get the feature ready in time for the initial release or even reserved it for a Creative Cloud update to ID CS6 on purpose.
Here is a video recording demonstrating liquid layout (which has since shipped) and then the HTML5 export:

  • Photoshop CS6 question

I'm watching a lynda.com tutorial demonstrating 3D type in Photoshop CS6.  I don't see 3D among the menu options at the top of my screen as is shown in the tutorial.  What am I missing?

I am guessing that you are missing Cs6 "Extended" - you need Extended for 3d work.
    Cheers

  • Upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 questions

Why do I have two versions of photoshop now?  CS5 and CS6?
The upgrade from CS5 to CS6 didn't replace my older version.
How do I move my actions, plugins, etc to the newer version?
Copy and paste of folders caused runtime errors when I tried to run CS6

The upgrade from CS5 to CS6 didn't replace my older version.
As it should be. Feel free to uninstall CS5.
How do I move my actions, plugins, etc to the newer version?
For actions, brushes, styles etc simply use the flyout menus in the top right corner of the respective palettes. Plug-ins must be properly updated with qualified versions for CS6 as provided by the vendors.

  • PP CS6 questions

The insoluble problem I had of hijacking clips in CS5 was only solved when I got CS6.
I am wondering about a couple of things with this though.
Whenever I first open it and play a clip there is no audio.  If I then go to a music program and open it, such as Band in a Box, when I return to PP, then the audio is there.  this didn't use to happen with CS5.
I am also wondering about why when I go to export, the default is always AVI and Android.  I always switch to H264, and then HD and chose maximum render quality, user previews, and frame blending.  I am putting the videos on youtube.  Is this more than necessary.  It does take a very long time to export and upload.

"I thought rendering gives a smoother video"
If you're adding effects to the video in the timeline and it gets to where the clip plays back very jerky - like a few frames a second -and in order to check whether you're happy with the results of your edit you need to be able to see the clip play smoothly at normal speed, then by all means go ahead and render that segment to get a "green bar". You don't have to use those previews for the final export, just leave the box unchecked in AME.
But no need to arbitrarily render things "just because", that is a waste of time basically. If you have red bars and the video plays ok, just leave it. When you use AME to Export to the delivery format, it gets rendered then anyways, but direct from the source for better quality.
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CS6: Question about Resolution when Post-Cropping Film Scans

Hopefully, somebody with more understanding than I on this topic, can help me with this.
I am about to get a film scanner I have on order, to scan in 35mm negatives. I've had one before but I had problems with the model and had to return it.
When scanning film frames, I like the idea of setting the scan area marquee, at the scanning stage, so that it scans slightly beyond the film frame edges, so that I can carefully crop to the edge of the film frame later, in Photoshop CS6, rather than setting it, at the scanning stage, and then later, when examining the film frame in CS6, maybe discovering that I have not scanned to the edge of the film frame quite enough, as I can easily zoom right into the image when in CS6, to carefully examine where the film frame edges are.
My concern about doing it like this, though, is that I may be reducing the resolution of the image. For example, say I scan a film frame in at 3600ppi, and later crop the image slightly in CS6 in order to precisely trim off any slight amount of black around the film frame edges. By cropping the film frame like this in CS6, am I reducing the image resolution of the film frame to lower than 3600ppi? As I best understand it, I do not think post-cropping like this results in any reduction in image resolution, but am I correct in thinking this?

    Hi.
The scanner is a Reflecta ProScan 7200. As I said to station_two, I am in London. I understand the brand is known as 'Pacific Image' over in the US.
The scanning software I will be using it with will be 'SilverFast Ai Studio 8'.
Do take a look at this excellent review of the scanner:
    http://www.filmscanner.info/en/ReflectaProScan7200.html
(I may be incorrectly assuming too much when on these forums that I am speaking exclusively with folk from the US - the way you spell 'labour' makes me think you are not from the US?)

  • Photoshop CS6 - question about 'Classroom In A Book' Lesson 4

I am teaching myself Photoshop CS6 using Adobe's "Classroom in a Book." In Lesson 4, I am supposed to be able to open the Satin Layer Style from within the Drop Shadow Style Layer. It does not work!!! When I click the Satin check box, nothing happens.
Is the book wrong or am I doing something wrong?

I will start with Item 10.
    10. ”Select the Flower layer and choose Layer>Layer style>Drop Shadow. Then change the following settings in the Structure area:
         Opacity: 60%
         Distance: 13px
         Spread: 9%
Make sure Use Global Light is selected and the Blend Mode is Multiply. Do not click OK.”
(My note: there is a picture of how the Drop Shadow Layer Style screen should look.)
    11. "With the Layer Style dialogue box still open, select Satin on the left. Then make sure Invert is selected, and apply the following settings:
Color (next to Blend Mode): Fuchsia (choose a color that compliments the flower color.
         Opacity: 20%
         Distance: 22px”
(My note: There is picture of the Satin Layer Style Screen should look.)
12 “Click OK to apply both layer styles."
(My note: When I click Satin in step 11, nothing happens. In fact clicking on any box in the left column of the Drop Shadow Style Layer does nothing!)

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Question

One of the requirements for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is a 7200 rpm hard drive.  I have a notebook that I purchased less than a year ago with a 1 TB 5400 rpm hard drive.  I meet all of the other requirements listed on the Adobe site for the product except for the hard drive speed.  Will this product work with my notebook?  Thank you for your response.

It'll work.  Just not as well as it could with a better system.

  • Photoshop 7 and CS6 question

I have photoshop 7 and have purchased cs6. If I install CS6, will it replace 7?

New versions of photoshop will not overwrite existing versions of photoshop, so after installing cs6 you would have both ps7 and cs6.
They shouldn't interfere with each other, should you want to keep ps7 installed.

  • InDesign CS6 Question...

I have a user reporting various problems with Adobe InDesign CS6 including occasional crashing.  When I look into her system.log, I see a lot of entries that read:
/Applications/Adobe InDesign CS6/Adobe InDesign CS6.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe InDesign CS6[26191]: SCPreferencesCreate failed: Permission denied
Can anyone tell me what this error means exactly?  I get that it is a permission error, but to what path?  My user is running InDesign under a standard user account (not an admin acct.).  Is there something I need to change to correct this permissions error?  Promoting her account to an admin account is not an option.

Correct Peter – override a header on a master page header for editing. Thank you!! My old job was on a Mac, so a lot of the commands do not work on my PC (at a new job).
    Thanks much!!!
