CS6 Render Speed Decreases Greatly
First my system
AMD FX8350 Vishera 4Ghz 8 Core processor
Nvidia GTX860 and enabled in Adobe
32 Gigs of Ram
Main Drive is SSD
Two Secondary drives for scratch and media
So the problem Im looking at here is really getting to me. I have searched and searched and I can not find a solution. Maybe I'm missing it or searching for the wrong thing. I hope someone here can get me pointed in the right direction, or knows what the issue is.
I work primarily with Canon XF series cameras and Hero3 Black editions.
A current project Im working on is pretty basic. A 6 minute video, two clips from the Hero3 1080p 60fps, 1 transition and 1 Title, and some levels correction.
Problems
1. I can't watch the video clips in the preview monitor. The audio continues to play but the video freezes and hangs. Scrubbing is extreamely jumpy.
2. When I export the video it starts out extreamely slowly, then speeds up for a time, then slows way down again. Watching my CPU and GPU usage, both are hardly being touched. My total render time for a 6 minute video is more than 12 hours. What is the world is going on here?
Thanks for any help.
~Jake
Thanks Harm,
I'll mess with the benchmark some more later tonight maybe. I thought I followed the instructions closely, but that can be a chore with a 5 year old in your ear.
Yeah I had noted that the AMDs were a bit slower than the Intels. I would like to see Adobe do a better job with that. Everything else I do surpasses expectation with this CPU.
I guess I should brush up on the manual effects then, and try that. I'll see what sort of effect that has on the times.
Any thoughts on why the preview is so choppy?

Hi,
Have an APn. Haven't changed any settings on AP, but after installing leopard I can't break 11mbps.
I usual get 16-18Mbps via airport but no dice.
This is the weird part: If I plug my computer into the base station via ethernet I get normal speeds, but once I try using wireless it drops back down.
Multicast is set at 11, Channel Auto(but tried a few for measure), Robustness off, What gives? Is this a bug in leopard? If someone out there can test a similar setup for me I would appreciate it.
Using a
1. G5 Dual 2.5 (10.5.1) with an Airport Extreme a/b/g card (using G).(it is the only client on network)
2. Airport Extreme N Base Station with g compatible band.
3. Cable Connection of 20Mbps down/2.5 Mbps up
4. Using: http://ma.speedtest.rcn.net/ to confirm speeds(although you have to be an RCN subscriber) any respectable speed test will do.
5. Try wireless and record speeds (mine hasn't broken 11Mbps, (although it is ranging from 4-9 on average)
6. Plug in Computer directly to base station via ethernet and record speeds. (I'm getting my normal 20Mbps) averaging 16-19.
This computer was achieving normal speeds of 20mbps via WIRELESS prior to leopard. Now it only works via ethernet or is slow.
I have tried swaping a few kext files, preference files, etc, but really don't know where to start.
**I'm almost positive it is on the *computer side of things*, not the basestation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know if others are experiencing a speed decrease with leopard via wireless.(**you probably wouldn't know unless your going over 11-12Mbps, because that is where it seems capped.)
My MBP is already been in repair for a week (waiting on a part) and I do not want to jump through hoops for a false hardware issue when it is either a bug in 10.5.1 or a simple fix via terminal or some other firmware, firewall, extension, pref, etc..Thanks -
Hi
As I am new to iMovie HD I have been experimenting with imported clips. I have overcome importing mpeg2 and have been testing adding effects etc and have found that the render time in the timeline for the effect to be 'ready' is slow.
I am using a 2.1Hz iMac G5 (iSight) with 1gb of Ram. I have ensured that all other apps are not running but this does not noticebly increase the render speed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks"Slow" is quite a vague term...
But be aware that appling effects to clips needs a lot of your machine power, as each frame has to be "redrawn". Longer the clips, longer the time needed. -

Im sure there is an old thread about here or in macrumors.
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/firewalls-ipfw.html
http://seaotter.berkeley.edu/cab/mac-firewalls/
basically it could conflict with the main firewall, in my logs it showed that it denied the router's ip address, upon flushing of the rules it allowed it, while still maintaining the security of the main Firewall, Also in Leopard full bars mean Data rate to the router, unlike in Tiger it meant signal strength, so you can be connected to the router but not be connecting to the internet (been there),
in the Terminal command you may find the ipfw manual pages, to set precise port settings etc. the System prefs firewall is more UI friendly, but its like buying wholesale, instead of a precise item being purchased. So in your case its not blocking anything, because your main Fw is functioning already, but it is something good to know. like I posted before migrated accounts may carry over these configurations from the ipfw that worked in Tiger but not in Leopard because of the new sets of rules etc.

AE (CS6) Render Queue Messes Up Audio
So I decided to render out a file using the AE (CS6) Render Queue. I exported audio with the video, and, well... this is what I got.
http://vimeo.com/49931535 (password is "GG4ever")
The audio slow unsyncs, and then something happens about ten seconds in where it starts playing back audio from earlier in the project. Uhh... what?
BTW, this is how the audio SHOULD sound (this was rendered out with AME).
http://vimeo.com/49931533No, the culprits were probably some programming team at Adobe (and I just love how Adobe reps never respond to threads about issues, instead leaving unpaid forum members to do their jobs); I used all 48k Stereo .wav files in my project.
Also, anyone asking about the stats of my computer, it's this: http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops/NP-R580-JSB1US The only change I've made to it is I added more RAM. -
CS6 Render with Sound Question
Hi Guys,
Is there a way to turn on the render sound option for all comps in a large list of comps in the CS6 Render queue? I know CC fixes this as I am using both versions but I need to use CS6. I tried shift clicking and selecting all comps but the change only effects one comp.
On similiar lines, is there a way to send a large list of comps to the media encoder, I can only get it to ingest one comp at a time through the dialogue box.
Thanks for considering these issues for me.
Mandy> Is there a way to turn on the render sound option for all comps in a large list of comps in the CS6 Render queue?
Create an output module template with audio output enabled. Apply this template to each item in the render queue. -
Speedgrade's render speed seems to be radically variable. If I go to check my email or throw on a podcast in iTunes (neither are touching the drives involved in rendering, so it doesn't seem like an I/O issue) then the render drastically drops speed down from a nominal 10-15 frames a second to 1-2 (converting prores to avid DNxHD in the MOV container as a test). Speedgrade really seems to bog down my computer while rendering, even if the cpu usage floats between 10-50%. Is this because it's hogging the GPU?
The four rendering icons seem to say that the writing is taking the longest at ~1800ms, but my test was a firewire 800 drive, it was only being written to by Speedgrade. Speedgrade was reading files from an internal drive and no other program was accessing the destination drive.
Is there anything I can do to ease the issue? As much as I'd like to use Speedgrade for dailies on set, I've been having to grade one clip then bring the .look file into After Effects to batch and render the video files otherwise I can't get work doen in a timely manner.
Windows 7 sp1
Intel Core i7 2600 overclocked to 4GHz (stable and well cooled)
32 gigs DDR3 ram
nVidia GeForce GTX 560, 2gigs DDR5Let's face the truth. Speedgrade is amazing and I'm addicted to it but it is considerably slow when rendering. Whenever I need to do a quick de-log of my F3 files and pass them to a client, I'm forced to use DaVinci which renders at 2.5x
I hope Adobe will fix this soon -
Render speed enhancements in the future?
Apple,
to be honest, I like Motion 5 a lot. It's a very intuitive application with a wide range of tools and features for my post-production work.
BUT: What about the promised render speed?
****, I'm rendering a one-minute-movie in FullHD with one simple effect on it and the time remaining is 13 minutes!!!!!
What the ****?
Grand-Central-Dispatch, OpenCL, WHERE???
I'm running a Mac Pro 4.1 with a 4870 installed and 12GB Ram.
Adobes After Effects takes 1 and a half minute for rendering the same scene and they don't ad with OpenCL and GCD!!!
This is a problem of Motion since it was released back in 2004.
As good as no CPU utilization.
Very dissapointing Apple. I have 16 cores, just 1 is used when rendering (simple stuff or advanced stuff).
Is this everything you can do?Motion's render functionality is dependent upon your gfx card, not CPU speed. It's a fundamental difference between how Motion and AE are designed to work. If your card is sub-standard you will experience longer render times. Also, Motion 4 was an 8-bit application, Motion 5 is 16-bit floating point. This means that though Motion now uses GCD and the 64-bit speed of the processor to run, it's overhead is quite a bit more than the previous version meaning that there is only a nominal uptick of performance.

When i connect my MB Pro to external monitor, I've noticed my wireless internet speed decreases almost 3 time. is there a solution to this? thanks for your help in advance
"How do I find that IP address because I put in the 192.168.1.8.."
That's not the router's IP address. Most likely it will be 192.168.1.1
System Preferences>Network>Advanced>TCP/IP should show it. -
SpeedGrade render not using GPU, slow render speeds
atHi!
I'm grading a fan-made feature-length film situated in this really obscure place called Middle Earth, and I'm currently rendering the final output.
Rendering speed has been really slow all along, so I decided to check upon GPU usage with a nVidiaInspector. It shows that GPU usage is between 0-5%. I'm able to get GPU usage to spike by switching to Monitor view (and scrubbing in timeline) instead of Output view in SpeedGrade. I understand that SpeedGrade is supposed to be GPU-accelerated throughout (not counting frame decompression made by codecs?), and now it seems that my CPU is doing all the lifting. CPU usage is around 100% all the time.
Render speed varies between 0.7 FPS and 6 FPS, which is far less than I expected, as I got reasonably fluid real-time previews all along the timeline when grading. Most typical clips have two primaries, two secondaries and a vingette mask primary on top. Total render time for 1 h 50 min timeline is expected around 12 to 18 hours.
My source material is 25 FPS 1080p CineForm AVI.
My output format is CineForm in Quicktime container (as AVI output with CineForm coded is not supported at present time) with automatic color calibration on, no audio, alpha discarded. Framing options are not in use (Full image (no proxy), 1:1 pixel aspect ratio, same size as proxy), and rendering is happeing at Online Quality.
My machine's specs are:
- Intel i5 2400S quad-core
- 16 GB of DDR3 RAM
- nVidia MSI GeForce GTX 470 with 1280 MB memory
- Windows 7, 64-bit
- SpeedGrade 6.0.4x25
- GeForce 310.70 drivers
Any input is appreciated.Maybe due to cineform quicktime? Try other codecs to see what render speed you get.
Regards,
Mark.
PS I am geetin slow renders to cineform quicktime files from other app's (Premiere, Media encoder...) -
Mouse tracking speed decreased in Mavericks
I've noticed that after upgreading to Mavericks my Mouse tracking speed decreased in comparison to Mountain Lion. (I have tracking speed in preferences set to max)
Do you have any idea how to increase tracking speed? If not, Apple you should leave the range of tracking speed as it was.I was experiencing the same problem after updating to Mavericks and as a graphic designer it was driving me absolutely CRAZY. After doing some research online I found this: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/34817/mouse-acceleration
It's a quick, free download and it completely solved my problem. Now I actually enjoy Mavericks.
Apple why do you keep changing things that work fine to begin with? This is iTunes 11 all over again. -

Speed Grade CS6 Render Button Greyed out
I'm new to speedgrade and I'm really starting to get use to the interface. The only problem is I can't render out from speedgrade. No matter what I try, nothing seems to work. You can see my screen below:
Can someone please help!?Hi, I just saw that you made this post. I was having the same problem. Here is my thread:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4777699#4777699 -
Render Lighting (and other 3D things) don't work on my laptop. Initially in Preferences Performance, Use Graphics Processor wasn't checked. In that scenario, I didn't get the first message below - just the secind one (not enough memory). I go back to check Use Graphics Processor, and I now get both messages. Under Advanced Settings, Use OpenCL is grayed out. I have a feeling something's not right here. I pasted the info from Help System Info below.
Does anyone have any idea what the deal might be? This is digging a little bit down for me to comfortable troubleshoot by myself.
Thanks in advance.

I've been searching the web unsuccessfully to see if anyone else has experienced this issue:
Our company had quite a few custom 3D models made of our packages (OBJ and DAE format), which we were able to wrap and render in PS CS5 with great success. Once we updated to CS6 and then CC, we experienced:
– bizarre shadows when opening CS5 files and rerendering
– strange textures when importing the models from scratch in CS6 or CC
I've attached an image showing some of the oddities.
I'm working on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.8.5 16GB memory.
Cache Tile size 1024K; 4 cache levels, "Basic" Graphics Processor setting (I've tried Advanced and None with no difference)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M OpenGl Engine
The frustrating thing is it doesn't happen on all models; some OBJ files work fine.
We may have to stick to using CS5 for our 3D models, but that's very limiting when working with freelancers.
Any insight is MUCH appreciated!I've attached an image showing some of the oddities.
Please post those images with the camera icon tool.
