CS6 saving Tiff file only as .pbm

I'm saving a tiff image from an Imacon scanner before opening in ACR and modifying it.
Then, proceeding to Photoshop CS6 for Mac for further modification.  On saving it will only save as .pbm and not .tif.  If I modify the suffix is shows as .tif.
However, it will then not import into LR4.
It will then open in CS5 Photoshop and it also tries to save as a .pbm, but it will easily change to a Tiff suffix and save and then re-open in LR4 as a .tif.
Confusing.  What's wrong and how can I fix it ?
Thanks.
Gary

My crystal ball says that you did one of two things:
You copied plug-ins from your older version of Photoshop to the plug-ins folder of the newer version.
Or you set the Extra plug-ins folder to point to the plug-ins under the older version of Photoshop.
You can't mix plug-ins provided by Adobe with the older version of Photoshop up with the newer version.  Weird things will happen, such as what you're seeing here.
You need to undo whichever thing you did above.
To get all your old versions of plug-ins into Photoshop CS6 you need to get new installers, or failing that, isolate JUST the 3rd party plug-ins (excluding any Adobe-supplied plug-ins) and copy them to a new folder from which to access them.

  • Having trouble saving tiff files to server

    Hi all,
I'm having trouble saving tiff files to our server (a mac pro running OSX 10.5.7 client not server). I get the error message 'could not save "filename" because write access was not granted. The disk in question is set to ignore permissions and the other 3 Macs on the network have no problems.
Bizarrely this only seems to happen when saving as a Tiff file, I can save as JPEG without issue! The file will usually save after a few attempts, sometimes six or seven save as' are needed.
This problem comes and goes, but at the moment its pretty bad.
This is becomming very frustrating as Tiff is our prefered format and we work as a team so have to save to the server.
    Any ideas?

Just to expand on Buko's correct ansswer, this is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Problems saving .tiff file

I am trying to save a .psd to a .tiff file. My .psd has a couple layers and a drop shadow effect. When I save the file seems to be fine until i veiw it in any Windows or Microsoft view, thumbnail view or application such as word, it looks squeezed and totally washed out of colour and almost transparant? I have saved like this before and never encountered this problem. It seems to appear properly when opened in InDesign, Photoshop. I use these photos to send to other people who will be viewing them and using them in Microsoft applications such as PowerPoint, so I'm concerned that it won't open properly for them.
I am using Photoshop CS and Microsoft Windows Windows XP Professionl Version 2002 Service Pack 3. Any suggestions to what might be happening or what I might be doing wrong? help I have a deadline!
    Thanks, Roni

Roni, Powerpoint and some othe MS programs will open a TIFF but they usually only see one layer. Those programs are not designed to handle multiple layers or opacity, or adjustment layers. These all contain prorpietary format that al of the applications in the Adobe Suite can handle, but MS apps can not.
What you can do is place a composite layer as the top layer and save the file.

  • Why is dreamweaver cs6 saving my files as a firefox html document?

Hi, I am using dreamweaver cs6 on win xp sp 3 and it keeps saving my files as a firefox html document and connot figure out how to stop this as i need to get on to my ftp to upload files. It also loaded my site files from dreamweaver cs 5 as a firefox html document. I am running firefox ver 13.0.1. Any Help would be usefeful. I tried google searching and found nothing. And the adobe general help didn't wok either.

Firefox is probably your default web browser which launches anytime you click on an .htm or .html file.
If you want HTML files to launch inside Dreamweaver instead of Firefox, open your file manager (Windows Explorer), and change file associations for .html & .htm files.  When you do this, the icon next to those files will change from FF to DW.

If you have an app regularly crash, it's probably because there is something in the system that has changed that it doesn't like.
    Your options here:
    1) Run Disk Utility and repair permissions.
    If that doesn't solve it
    2) Go Back to 10.4.5 or
    3) Upgrade to Photoshop CS2

  • Why is adobe indesign cs6 saving my file in the previous file path rather than current folder path?

I've just updated to CS6 and when I go to 'save as' Indesign file it opens (auto remembers) the wrong folder/location. Can I make it remember the right folder to save to?

Are you converting old files (better to do that by exporting theoriginals to .inx/.idml from the original application, by the way)? ID treats conversions as new files, and all file operations on new files default to the last folder where that operation was executed. Once saved, though, it will default to the folder where the file is saved.

  • Insering Audio in CS6 CC - controller files: only Play and Pause?!

audio : controller files - there is only possibility for Play/Pause - what about Stop and progress slider bar (it was in CS4!)

There was no DPS in CS4 so I'm not sure what you're referring to.
If you want visible audio controllers in DPS you'll need to create the artwork yourself. http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/audio-video-overlays.html

  • Downloadable .tiff files open in quicktime, not as an image file: using mac

    I am using a Mac 10.6.3 and
    Ffirefox ver: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6
downloadable .tiff files open in firefox quicktime, not as image files, nor do they let me choose how to download or where to save or as what type of file.

    Hello andrea,
You can tell Firefox to ask you where to store your download files by changing the Firefox "Preferences". You can get the instructions on how to do it in this article: [[Downloads window]].
I would advise you to download tiff files as tiff files only otherwise they may become unviewable.
Now, to open your tiff files as images, you can change the settings on your Mac computer as follows:
#Select the tiff image that you downloaded.
#Right click on it and select "Get info"
#A windows will pop up. In this window, select the "Open with" item. Under this item, select "Preview" or any other image viewer application that you want to use.
#Next, click on the "Change All.." button. Click "Continue" in the message that is shown.
That's all. Now, your tiff files will open as images in the application that you just selected
Hope this solves your problem !

  • CS6 Mac - cannot Save As tiff file

    OS X 10.7.3
    CS 6 Beta
Open a raw file (CR2), not as smart object
    Edit
Save (psd format is the default)
Save As:  same name, but choose tiff format
Result:  Save As dialogue adds "mpo" as an extension, and the next dialogue is one for JPGs.
    1) loading a TIFF file and then trying to Save As a TIFF file with a different name has the same outcome.
    2) Saving works properly with my TIFF files.  Only Save As fails.

    Myron-
Just to clarify, you can't point your plugins to the plugins for an older version of CS5 and expect the program to work properly.  In CS6, the default plugins are in a different directory in an effort to make it easier for you to tell what plugins are 3rd party and that you have installed separately. When you point your additional plugins folder to the CS5 plugins, you are pointing to duplicates of many default plugins, which does not make the Mac os very happy. If you make a new folder and set it as your additional plugins folder, you can install your 3rd party plugins there and  you will not have the issue with duplicate files or the file save issue.
    Hope that helps-

  • How do I disable Illustrator (CS6) from recognising TIFF paths inside placed TIFF files?

    Hi all,
I have recently output a job to print that was supplied .AI with a simple .TIFF image placed on an artboard at its desired crop.
After referring to the original TIFF file I have realised whilst inside illustrator my image suddenly has a clipping mask attached to it, and a lot of it is missing. (however in outline, illustrator only see's a single TIFF bounding box)
Looking more closely at the TIFF in Photoshop, i've found it has x3 paths inside it!)
Illustrator is picking these up and masking my photo. Is there a default function or process that can stop this from happening in the future, so it ignores any paths within the file?
It's concerning how many jobs may be ruined because of this auto feature.
I look forward to your response
    Thanks
    Matt

haha, it's not an easy one to describe.
So when checking the TIFF initially, it is a flat locked image: (image below)
when placed into Illustrator CS2 and outputting a PDF, I get this correct result: (image below)
When placed into illustrator CS6 and output to PDF I get this incorrect result: (image below)
Close up detailing masking effect: (image below)
When looking more closely in photoshop at my TIFF, it has this inside of it: (image below)
However, in illustrator there is nothing I can release anywhere as it still treats it as a flat image: (image below)

  • Saving a file in CS6 idiosyncracies

    Upgraded from CS4:
If I open a previously worked tiff file in CS6, and make some changes, instead of being able to click Control-S as before, and have it just save, now it comes up as save as, and I have to click 3 time,s as it asks if I want to overwrite it and have the same compression.
And if I just modify and press alt-control-W - which would ask if I wanted to save and if I chose yes, it would just save it, now it would default to save a tiff as a psd instead.  Is this all necessary, all these extra steps?
Also if I have a group of images open, that I may or may not modify, and use the alt-control-W to close all when done, with CS4 it would stop on the unmodified image and ask if I want to save it.  Now if there are unmodified ones, it asks this, but it doesn't stop to show that image, remaining instead on a different image, so I must look at the file name, which for me is usually just a number and name, that I do not have memorized for each similar image.  So I might choose yes close, thinking it is one I am done with when it really isn't.
This is all such a step down in efficiency.  Is there some preference to go back to the more sensible way?

In that case I can only recommend running the basic trouble-shooting procedures (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.) … though whether they will have any effect is beyond me.

  • How do I maximize quality of tiff files in Adobe PP cs6

    Hi.
I'm importing tiff files 3528 x 3630 pixels, 24 bit depth, into Premiere Pro cs6, and then scaling to frame in cs6.
Would the quality be any better if I downsized them outside of cs6 and if so what would be a good program to do this in.
The best results I've had with exporting in terms of quality have been with the f4v format.
avi, mp4, and all the other ones are quite lossy. And there is little improvement when I alter the codec or bit depth, so I assume either I'm doing something wrong or the tiff files arent simpatico with the cs6 system.
What is the best way to maintain the integrity and high quality of the original images?
Any help would be much appreciated.

As Fuzzy says, perhaps if we saw your export settings it would be useful.
Also, you say you are scaling the 3528 x 3630 images to frame size. What is that frame size. For extremely technical reasons, that could actually matter.
We have the image size, we need the frame size of the sequence, and the frame size of the export. With all three, I believe we can assist you in selecting the correct output method. Can we assume that the lossless version is for archiving?
Exporting to an uncompressed codec is easy. (Actually that is a silly statement on my part, if it is uncompressed, there is no codec because there is nothing compressed to decompress!) The problem might be that playing back an uncompressed video stream is extremely difficult for most PCs.  You might only be able to use the uincompressed video in a program like Premiere Pro or After Effects.
By the way, how do the Vimeo and YouTube videos look? Are they of sufficient quality for distribution?
Off topic question: Where did you get tiff files of that size and depth? Is that what your camera records?

  • Photoshop CS4, Saved a Tiff file now won't open correctly

I saved a file as a .tif and it saved as normal then I shut down Photoshop and then the PC. The next day when I try to open the file it doesn't open correctly it opens but the right hand side of the photo is on the left and the left hand side of the image is now on the right, its like its been cut in half and put pack the wrong way.
It also didn't open with the layers only as a locked background. When I view the file in the icon it looks fine until I open it.
    Help!

Laura, I'd guess this is not promising for you.  TIFF files tend to be large, so I am wondering if you might have closed Photosho and the PC before it had finished saving?  Do you remember the pixel size of the original image, and what is the file size in Mb?  I am not sure how Photoshop treats TIFF images, depite them owning the file format after buying it from Aldus a few years ago, but it sounds like it was saved as a series of tiles, and the information about the order of those tiles is corrupted.  You might be able to Google TIF file recovery program, but it is unlikely you'll get the full file back with all the information saved with it.
If you don't get a better answer, keep a weather out for when Chris Cox is posting, and bump this thread.
    Good luck
