CS6 takes my After Effects clips offline.

Hello,
I'm running a Mac Pro 5,1 with 32 gigs of memory and an Nvidia Quadro 4000. I have a timeline contaning nothing but After Effects compositions that reside in three or four different AE project files. All were imported into AE CS6 from CS5.5 (it's a long-term project).
Here's the problem:
When I open Premiere Pro CS6 it takes a long time to populate the Project Panel and timeline with the AE linked clips. Some clips never populate and are replaced with red or yellow "media offline" placeholders. To speed playback, on the rare occasion I get a linked clip in every section of the timeline I try to render the clips. Some work and score a green bar (though clips with lots of effects take extremely long to render). Several render only partially before returning a "compiling error" message.  When this happens, others that were linked and rendered can suddenly go offline. Sometimes the entire timeline becomes red placeholders.
A reboot and reopening of Pr used to fix this, albeit without giving every previously-rendered clip a green "rendered" status. Now the project rarely finds even a majority of the clips. None have been moved or renamed and all open up in After Effects. Going back and selecting a clip to relink it can work occasionally, but on several occasions has also caused neighboring clips to drop offline.
This is really the tip of the iceberg when it comes to my CS6 problems of the past week. If I could just get my timeline up and showing green bars for segments I've already rendered then I would at least feel stuck in place, rather than going backwards.
Can anyone help?
Thanks much,
Gene

Hey,
I do not know if my solution will work for you. I have CS5.5 on MacBook Pro (2.2Ghz i7, 8GB ram, OSX 10.7.4) and I had bunch of clips where I had to stabilize them in AE. I used Dynamic Link for that. I didn't find any solution online.
I work on dual monitors so that's why these screenshots below look weird.
First I did, I opened an AE file, with dynamic links. I had 2 of them (2 projects). [somebody gave a good tip to keep all Dynamic Links in 1 AE project]
Second, I marked all the Dynamic Links which could not be found in PrP. I marked them in the files window.
Then I right click on them and "Link Media" BUT, I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. PrP found the files itself. So I clicked "Cancel" in the window which popped up.
I don't know if there has to be that order of doing this. I was doing that first time and this is how I did it. Actually by accident.
ohhh. now I see it was in May... sorry, probably you don't need it any more...

  • CS6 to CC2014 after effects video edits getting moved around

    Hi,
We are having a weird problem after moving our whole department to CC2014 from CS6.  Once we bring open a CS6 project in After Effects CC2014 all the video edits get thrown off by anywhere from 300 to 18000 frames in the actual edit layer window (in the composition the edit cuts are still in the same place).  We are shooting on Canon 305XF's using the 50 mbps .MXF format.
When I open the same project in CS6 and CC2014 and look at the footage setting in CS6 the clip says 9403 total frames in the interrupt footage dialog.  But when I open the exact same project in CC2014 it says 83160 frames.  If anyone has seen this issue can you point me in the right direction.
I really need to have an easy fix for this issue as it is going to effect about 100 large older projects.
    Thank you
    Keith

Yeah it is looking like a footage interpretation to me as well but wish there was some kind of auto fix.
The broken process is opening the CS6 .aep with CC2014 .aep.
What will work is opening the original footage edits that I made in Premiere Pro CS6 in Premiere Pro CC2014.  Then I save the Premiere Pro CC2014 and import into the .aep CC2014 that was had all the edits that went funky.  Since the composition were still the same I was able to replace the old broken edit compositions with the new CC2014 saved versions and now all the footage is correctly imported.
The main problem with this process is how many projects I would have to do this to would make it a total pain.  As well I am very worried about such a manual process mistakes being made.

  • After effects clip doesn't appear in finished film

I have produced a short film in premiere pro with a 6 second after effects clip at the end.  When I export it to encoder to produce a FLV/F4V film for youtube, the after effects clip does not appear even tho I can see it encoding and there is a 6 second blank film at the end.  I don't understand this as I have done this a few months previously on another premierepro film and could see the after effects clip.  I have repeated the encoding on the earlier film and now cannot see the AE clip.  I have slightly changed the AE clip - only changing the font colour so nothing major.  I am working with CS4
Any ideas as to whatis happening?

    Hi Mark
It was a stupid mistake on my part - the AE project was set at 24fpm whereas the Premiere Pro project was set at 25fpm so I guess they were contradicting each other.  I'm still not sure how this could have happened but I am glad I have sorted it.  Thanks very much for your interest

  • Aspect Ratio issue when replacing a clip in Premiere CS6 with an After Effects CS6 Composition

Please assist! When I attempt to right click on a clip in my Premiere timeline and replace it with an After Effects composition, I can do so, but problems ensue.
After Effects will start up, but the composition will be in 4:3, even though the Premiere project and clip that I'm altering were both 16:9.
I was able to change the aspect ratio to 16:9 in After Effects and then edit what I wanted, but an hour later when I had finsihed, saved, and gone back to Premiere, it had smushed the replaced clip into 4:3 within Premiere.
    So to reitterate:
When I replace a clip in Premiere with an AE comp, AE opens in 4:3.
I can change the AE comp to 16:9, but when I save and go back to Premiere, it has smushed the AE comp down to 4:3.
What can I do to stop this?

If you right click on the clip in the Project panel, then select Modify / Interpret Footage you will see a Pixel Aspect Ratio.
    What does it say?
If it says 0.9091 then change it to 1.2121
If it says something else, come back and let me know. I will then have a different answer for you.
Also, what is the frame size of the video.

  • Dynamic Linking between Premiere pro cs6 CC and After Effects is shaded grey and not working.

Hi, I currently have a CC membership with everything included in the package. I have already downloaded Premiere Pro CS6 and After Effects. However, I cannot figure out why , when I right click a video clip in Premiere, the dropdown menu has the 'replace with after effects' option within the list greyed out, apparently not an option for me. I've browsed several tutorials and all of them illustrate using dynamic linking with ease as a readily available option. Can anyone help with this please?

    Thank You, Jim -
Unfortunately that specifically did not work.
Based on another comment sent to me, here is what did.
    In PProCC
File > Adobe Dynamic Link > New After Effects Composition
    In AECC
From that composition created from PPro, I imported the project (aep) initially created in AECC from another team member. Saved the file.
    Back in PProCC
File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Import After Effects Composition
    Magic.

  • No audio in export ONLY during after effects clip

    Hi,
I threw together a premiere project and sent a couple of the clips to after effects to add some animations.
Upon re-inserting the clips into premiere pro and exporting them, I have no sound... but ONLY on the portions of the video that have data from after effects.
    Any ideas?

    Premiere Pro CS6,
My footage is AVCHD 1080p MTS files taken from a Sony FS100.
I am attempting to export via media encoder using the 1080p 29.97 FPS YouTube Setting.
There is audio in the timeline, there is no audio in the export.

  • Photoshop CS6 PSDs into After Effects CS5.5

    Hi there,
Our graphics department have recently upgrade Photoshop to CS6 version 13.0 x64. I am trying to open a .psd file they have created in After Effects CS5.5 version 10.5.1.2. However I get the following message:
'After Effects error: could not open (.psd name) because it is not a valid Photoshop document. ( 51 :: 19 )'
Is there any way they can save their photoshop files differently so that they will open or do I need to upgrade to After Effects CS6?
Thanks in advance for the help.
(wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the photoshop forum - thought I would try here first though)

I've never encountered such an issue, and switch between both versions regularly.  On the machine I'm working on right now I have CS6 Creative Cloud installed, but do most of my AE work in CS5 or 5.5 because the clients I'm working for haven't upgarded yet.  But all my PSD work is done in CS6.
Is there anything unusual in the file, ie 3D content?  As Mylenium says, PS 3D has changed and is no longer supported by AE.  Otherwise, are you moving between platforms, ie Windows to Mac?  Does the file have a valid PSD extension?

  • Can I use my current CS6 Photoshop and After Effects plug-ins if I join the Creative Cloud?

I am interested in getting a Creative Cloud membership but am wondering if I will still have access to all of my CS6 plug-ins for Photoshop and After Effects?

you can still use your cs6 versions along side the cc versions.

  • Can't open After Effects clips in FCP 7.  Need a fix (and to understand why it happens)

I filmed some footage for a short film on a Gopro3, at 2k, 24p.  I loaded it into After Effects (mac), removed the fisheye affect and exported it as a 1080p, H264, mov file.  I did this to be able to remove the fisheye affect (caused by the gopro factory lens), yet have enough "information" to not lose quality in the correction.
Now I am looking to import this clip into FCP 7 to edit but FCP won't open.  I get an error.
FCP 7 doesn't seem able to open it.  Also, this always happens when the AE file comes out of a PC, and often happens when coming out of a mac AE prog.
My first question is, why does this incompatability issue come up?  What's going on with the codec or file structure details, what causes this?  I really want to understand the details because I'm always using various cameras, equipment, etc and need to be able to carefully plan equipment choices and workflow.
My second (just as important) question is how to fix it this.
    Thanks.
    Will.

FCP doesn't work with H.264 files. It might bring it in, or it might not. It might seem like it's working, but then sync drifts. It might look like it's fine, but when you export different sections jump to other clips. It's unpredictable.
FCP 7 and H.264 do not mix.
If you are exporting files out of AE on a PC, then look at exporting them as DNxHD...the Avid codec. or Cineform. Then the FCP user will need to install the Avid codec or Cineform in order to see the file, but then they should convert it again to ProRes 422...as working with non-FCP codecs in FCP can be problematic.  I recommend those formats over the others, like ANIMATION or UNCOMPRESSED...because of the file size issues.
If you are using AE on a Mac, the same computer as FCP...then export as ProRes right away. Done and done.

  • Quality loss on After Effects clip in Premiere - See Image

This problem will be the death of me. Look at the image for more clarity on the issue.
It used to be fine, but now the AE clip renders blurry in Premiere and the clip renders beautifully
in AE but with moments of blurriness like its bouncing back and forth. I have tried exporting in both programs
as AVI, MOV, TGA sequence. Still no luck. Help?

The image is just small since the forum states that it will reduce the size if it is larger.
I figured it out... it hardly makes sense though since the problem wasnt cosntant, it was jumping around.
The clip was embedded within about 6 pre-compositions. The Premiere file originally did not use square aspect ratio
but I hacked it to change the it to square. The after effects files werent using swaure ratio so I changed some, only
to realize premiere was already compensating, so I changed it back.
Somewhere there was an error with the aspect ratio and the combination of effects and nested compositions made it freak out.
I previewed every step on full, set the nested compositions to retain quality and change all the pizel ratios back to what they were before. Problem solved.

It wouldn't hurt to update AE either. The latest version is 11.0.4 (well, the latest version is 12.2.1, but you know what I mean).

  • Premiere Pro CS6 vs. After Effects CS6

I would like to know which of these programs would be best for me.   I shoot video with my Canon Vixia HFS 20 HD camcorder.  I have a decent green screen studio set up in my basement.  I currently use Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 and am not happy with the poor chroma key features it has.  Is the Chroma key the same or similar on both of these programs?  I would rather spend less for Premiere Pro unless there is some really cool stuff in After Effects that would make the additional cost worth it.
I just bought a new Dell XPS 8500 desktop with a Core i7 processor, 12GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 640 1GB GDDR5, 460 watt power supply, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and a 2TB hard drive.  I just installed a WD Black 2TB internal second hard drive.  I would be willing to upgrade the graphics card and/or RAM if it would make a noticeable difference.
I would really like some good advice on what to buy and suggestions of computer upgrades if needed.

    1. If you feel unhappy with the reply, why did you mark it as the 'correct answer'?
That just decreases the probability some other Forum users visit your thread and give you an answer you will be more satisfied with...
    2. You probably misunderstands Creative Cloud Files concept. Those 20 GB are for sharing files, they don't limit you in storing and editing footages on your hard drive, and you don't have to use it.
    3. Both PrPro and AE have sets of keying tools that can do a decent job. However, the result always depends on many factors such as set up quality, the footage quality (it's difficult to pull a good key out of highly compressed footage) and your skills. Since AE is a compositing tool, you can pull better key there out of poor quality footage via several steps (which requires investing some time on learning).
Just download trial versions of both applications and test on your own.
If you're unhappy with built-in keying tools and have some money, you can extend them with 3-rd party plug-ins (e.g. Red Giant Primatte Keyer).

  • CS6 workflow (Photoshop, After Effects, Premier Pro)

Hello, I'm new to CS and have been learning quite a few different programs over the past few months regarding post-production.  I've primarily been using Photoshop, After Effects, and Premier Pro.  I have noticed there are tons of different ways to work within and across these programs through the CS package.  Because there are so many ways to accomplish an end result, I was unsure what is the right way to edit or manipulate video footage.  For instance, if I plan on using after effects to do color correction using color finesse, or matte painting and rotoscoping, what order should I open the files and change them?  Should I start in premier and then use AE, or should I change in AE and then import into premiere?  I noticed not all AE changes are accepted in Premiere. Same question goes with any changes to footage in photoshop as well.  Any advice would be great or at least a direction to look to get resources to help with my workflow.  Thank you.

You'll get way more feedback in either PP or AE forums than you will here.
