CS6 Toolbars & Menu Too Small

I have just got a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and a 3200x1800 screen resolution. When I installed CS6, all the toolbars and menus are too small to even use. I have looked through these forums and, surprisingly, it seems like a common issue that has been going on for years. I've seen posts by Adobe employees that the problems would have been fixed by last year yet my interface is still too small to work.
What do I have to do to make Illustrator and Photoshop have icons large enough so that I can use them. There has to be a setting.

You sign up for Creative Cloud. CS6 never supported high-DPI displays on Windows and even Retina support on Mac was limited to PS and AI. This madness really just started back then and nobody was prepared. As John said, nobody will ever do anything with CS6 again, so you have to live with it and use what tools your operating system offers in combination with your hardware like using a lower screen res and then scaling it 200%...

  • Cs6 user interface too small to use

    I have just bought a new laptop with a high resolution screen - 2560x1440 - and like many others, I'm finding that the user interface for my cs6 software is too small to use.
    I have just found the following advice for HiDPI devices on Adobe Illustrator Help:
    For displays with resolution greater than or equal to 2560*1440, Illustrator can be launched at 1.5 times or 2 times scaled-up UI, depending on the OS text size.
    I'm not very computer savvy, and I don't know how to do that - can anybody help please?

    This only applies to Mac, not Windows.

  • Cs6 icons are too small to read.

    Installed Photoshop CS6, the icons on the front page,  top and side are way too small to read.  I have a hard time seeing, can't hardly see the crop tool and the tools on top, help.

    Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: '''View > Zoom > Reset''' (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

  • Firefox 4 placed logo's before my toolbar bookmarks, now the toolbar is too small . I downloaded 3.6 again. How to remove the useless logo's?

    Firefox 4 places logo's before the titles in my bookmarks toolbar. I filled the toolbar with very small, abbreviated titles like grewhe, bank, bbclive, ns, hh, hhraw etc.
    Have no need for logo's, on the contrary, they cause trouble because they use space.

  • Photoshop CS6 on windows 8.1: police of toolbar is too small

    I have just installed Adobe Creative Suite Standard CS6 on a new PC (Windows 8.1, display 3200x1800).
    Installation was OK but when I open Photoshop or Illustrator, the toolbars appears very very small, unusable...
    If I go into the PC display settings and change the resolution it will change the size of the icones but when clicking on them to launch Photoshop or Illustrator, the problem still remains the same...
    Thanks for any help...

    Trevor there is a fix for windows user the external manifest files and registry update works well.
    Adobe 2x UI does not work well for CC 2014 users and does not exist for other versions of Photoshop.    The 2x UI preference in CC 2014 does not work well on my surface pro 3. Basically when you use the 2x UI preference Adobe uses your display at half resolution.  So the surface pro 3  216 PPI display is use as 108 PPI display resulting in a 2x magnification. So the  Surface Pro display pixel count goes from 2160x1440 to 1080x720 which does not meet Photoshop  minimum 1024x768 requirement. So Photoshop default UI does not fit on the display  using 2x UI. Users that use the 2x preference on 4K display makes them into 1K displays 1920x1080.  Photoshop UI fits on screen however user feel that the 2x UI magnification is  too much and the pixel count dropping down to 1k is a big loss.
    With the registry update and external manifest file all versions of Photoshop can use Microsoft Windows Display scaling.  Microsoft for the  Surface pro 3 has four presets 100% 2160x1440  216 PPI,   125%  1728x1153  173 PPI, 150% 1440x960 144PPI and like Adobe's 2x UI 200%  1080x720 108ppi.   The 150% magnification works quite well on the Surface pro 3 and Photoshop UI fits on the screen.
    When is come down to it Adobe's Photoshop UI was designed for use with a mouse.   It was not designed for touch and because of that it is not touch friendly at any magnification.  Only touch gestures work well for they are use in the large image windows.   Without magnification on high resolution displays even using a pen for selecting UI option is not a good experience using a mouse works better.  IMO without a major overhaul Photoshop UI is not suitable for touch finger use.  A touch UI design is needed.for finger use.
    Using Photoshop on a high resolution Display without a keyboard is not a pleasant experience its nothing you want to attempt.  On youtube I found a touchkey utility that you can design touch overlay keyboards you can place over applications like Photoshop  display tailored to make the application useable via touch.  Still a UI designed for touch would be better.

  • CS6 display is too small

    I just purchased a new windows PC with resolution 3200x1800 and the display of all my CS6 production software are really small and hardly viewable. There is no option on the PC to adjust programs size, only display text and icons on the desktop.  Can anyone help?

    There is no option. CS6 does not support High-DPI displays on Windows and even on Macs, Retina support was/ is limited to Photoshop and Illustrator. You can only forcibly reduce the overall screen resolution at the cost of things losing sharpness.

  • Right side menu too small font size of letters in Windows 8.1 High DPI screen

    Hi, I just own a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and high resolution screen.
    When I start Adobe Reader, the document area seems to be readable, with "normal size fonts", but the options menú in the right side uses a very small fonts size and is hardly readable.
    I tried to change it using the Windows "change menu, title, icons size, but withpout success.
    Any solution for it?
    By the way, in a Lenovo Ideapad U430 Touch, there is not "magnyfying glass" combination key and the zoom function of the touch screen doesn't work either in that right side menu área (it works in the document area, not in the right side menu area).
    Any help will be welcomed.
    Thanks.

    Hi, Pat, test done.
    Thanks for your suggestion, it was somehow helpful, or, let say, half and half.
    It was helpful in the way that when I opened the preferences Windows I was not able to see the full window, there was a part of the right side of the window that was out of the screen. So, when I changed the "scaling settings options and behaviour" from "Auto" (default value) to 100% everything was in the display.... So, this was of high help.
    BUT I was not able to find any way in all the suggested document for making the fonts used in the right window of the Adobe Reader, the one where the "Tools" and "Comments" menus are displayed more readable, bigger size, than the one that the product uses by default in the High DPI display.
    So, thanks for the suggested document that helped to solve the first point.
    BUT
    Any other idea that could help for changing the fonts used in the "Tools" or "Comments" menu window?
    Thanks and kind regards.

  • FF 20, why are the toolbars too big and the toolbar font too small?

    A few days ago I opened Firefox and instead of the usual tabs and tool bars, the tool bars were three times larger and the toolbar fonts were twice as small. I looked for any possible reason why the fonts/tool bars were changed, I reset windows to Classic and then back to XP themes to see if there was a font problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Firefox. No change. Internet Explorer looks correct as do the programs I'm running so I believe I have isolated it to Firefox. Screen shots available.

    Are you using a custom theme?
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.6. The font size for the tabs and bookmarks Toolbar is too small for comfortable reading for older eyes. Is there a way to change it or enlarge it?

    The font size is smaller and harder to read than on FF 3.x. Would like to make it a few points larger or choose a different, more readable font altogether.

  • Screen size in windows 8.1 - all icons too small! How do I enlarge the entire captivate 8 screen?

    The entire Captivate 8 screen to too small. How do I enlarge the entire window? All icons and thumbnails are 1/4 the size they should be. Using Windows 8.1.

    It looks like it is an issue between Adobe and Microsoft. (Many Adobe programs are responding this way to Windows 8 and 8.1)
    I am posting this to try and get some (ANY) ideas/feedback...but to also bring it to the Captivate Community attention. I hope the Captivate Staff is aware of this issue.

    there are many many more out there......
    I tried this first, it comes with Windows and changes your display properties by application: (but it didn't work)
    The program above basicly edits these settings (you can get to these by right clicking on the exe application) I tried many combos, an even tried them under the "change for all users" setting.....NADA!
    I have tried editing the Windows display settings: (all screen shots below are with this setting size)
    The screenshot below is at 250%. It does not make any difference in the application (check out the menu bar, properties, icons....) If I go over 150% I lose dialog box space...the buttons disappear! If I keep it at 150% the words "Advanced Actions" at the top of the dialog box shrinks slightly, enough to fit the buttons in...) I showed the difference using snag it (12 pt arial compared to the appearance of the UI ~ 4 pt.) This is so hard to see! Same issue in some of the other adobe applications. (fyi...they are all up to date)
    Photoshop = same problem
    Dreamweaver = working fine
    Flash = working fine
    Premier Pro = half working....(menubar is ok but everything else is real small)
    Muse = not working
    Adobe Edge Code = Working fine
    OOF! Well, any thoughts anyone? I appreciate any and al feedback and ideas!!!

    I just bought a new PC and I have re-installed my Adobe Creative Suite Standard on it.
    Software open fine. PROBLEM: The toolbars (menu stuff) appear extra-small, too small for me to read...
    I went into the PC settings and tried to change the display resolution. This changes the size of all  the icons (not only Adobe) but it does not solve the problem when I open an Adobe application (Photoshop or Illustrator)... The PC is run under Windows 8.1 and my display resolution is 3200x1800 (but again, when I change the settings for a smaller resolution, only the size of the icons is affected. Once I open the software, the problem is still there, extra-small toolbars...). Help!!!

    Anything before CC is not high-DPI compatible. Feel free to continue to experiment with your system settings.

  • Icons and toolbar text is way too small and hard to read (kind of fuzzy)

    The toolbars (menu bars) at the top of the screen have letters and icons and symbols that are way too small to read. Also the background color options are limited. Light black on grey is hard to read. I have tried customizing all that I can. There used to be a thing in control panel called display, and we could pick all sorts of fonts and colors for all those toolbar strips. Where did that go? I am VERY FRUSTRATED!!

    I've tried those, and have just decided to go back to 3.6. Firefox just seems to have too much input lately trying to tweak and adjust. Meanwhile, the later versions just end up looking worse and worse with each iteration. Icons too small, monochromatic tool bar, making icons harder to distinguish, and, worst of all, frequent crashes.
    Perhaps some of these problems are because I'm using XP, but I've noticed many if not all of the appearance deficiencies with my laptop running Win7. Probably the most annoying thing about later versions, though, is the inability to set memory time for history. This alone is a deal breaker for me, and ultimately, as IE has gotten better, I may just go back there.
