CS6 Upgrade Policy

I have a registered copy of PS CS3 and plan to take advantage of the upgrade offer and buy the CS6 upgrade before 31st Dec 2012. However, I also plan to buy a new PC in the next month or two and would prefer to wait until I have that fully operational before installing CS6. This could well be early 2013. The question is will the CS6 upgrade still be valid? What happend on the 1 st Jan 2013? Are all CS3/4 Upgrades taken of the shelves or will Adobe prevent activation from that date?
Dave

I believe this may be driven by the serial number.
CS6 upgrades are purchased direct from Adobe.
I suspect that CS6 upgrade serial numbers which recognise CS3 as a qualifying product probably won't be issued with upgrade purchases from 1 Jan 2013 onwards.
Bottom-line: if you intend to upgrade to CS6 from CS3, you must purchase in 2012. Don't leave it until 2013 and then be disappointed. When you actually install and activate is up to you but you will then know that the CS3 serial will be accepted by the CS6 installer. If any issues arise, the first thing Adobe Customer Support will check is date of purchase.
Point is: comply with Adobe's special offer rules for eligibility and you cannot go wrong

  • Way of checking if cs6 upgrade has been registered or deregistered before

I am about to buy this product from a 3rd party reseller who says its new and unused.
    adobe CS6 upgrade from 5.5 to  CS6
Is there a way of checking that this is true  and that it is an unregistered product? or if installed before if it has been de-registered?

  • Understanding the upgrade policy

I came to the forums for the first time in quite awhile to ask a question about a laptop. Have had little time the past months to work in Photoshop. Now I find there out about the new upgrade policy and find different opinions on what the new policy is. (I've also discovered that the forums have a whole new look!)
I have CS5. Is it true that I can wait untll the end of 2012 to upgrade to CS6 to get the upgrade price of 199.00, (or maybe Adobe will change that also?)
I think I understand that I can't skip 6 and wait for 7 to upgrade. I don't really mind as long as I can wait until the year's end because I don't like to be an early upgrader. I might have skipped this upgrade, because this time there seems fewer features of interest, but I have always found some new and useful things each time.
Anyhow, I am thinking of auditing a college class in art this year (an accredited college.) so I think that means I could get a copy of InDesign, CS6, Illustrator and Acrobat. I've wanted Indesign, but as an amature coudn't justifiy it. The price wouldn't be much more than upgrading CS6. (With the cost of the class it will be quite a bit more.) But then I am unable to transfer my license (sell) the bundle later? My current CS5 might or might not be saleable? (not if Adobe can find a way to stop it.). So if I can't work on my PC anymore (age) or die (my heirs) are stuck with useless software?
Would I be able to sell/give my current copy of CS5 if I buy the educational bundle?
It's all so confusing. I will likely get CS6 anyhow, but maybe will stop then and just use what I have which I haven't begun to learn all of anyhow.
Hope I made the quesions clear in my chatter. Especially: do I have until the end of 2012 to decide? And can I not  sell my current CS5, or the educational bundle at any time if I join the class and buy the package? Did I miss anything - there is so much new!
Thanks, I guess I'll ask my other question now.

You seem to have a confidence in Adobe that is not supported by their recent record.

Adobe suits have taken their customer for granted for quite some time.  Take their disastrous outsourcing of customer and tech support to India, and the contempt with which they treat us there and even in these forums.  Their recent record of pushing unripe, buggy software out the door is nothing short of appalling.

Who are these "competitors" of whom you speak?   I'd love to be "usurped" by them  —rather than continue to be screwed by Adobe.

Adobe has been innovating since it began so it's deeply embedded in their DNA.
Here you speak of the Adobe of the 1980s, which no longer exists.
During the Bruce Chizen era they degenerated into a third-rate corporate raider, as evidenced by their ill-thought "acquisition" of the Macromedia white elephant which in reality turned out to be the Macromediatization of Adobe into an unresponsive bureaucracy.  Just like Macromedia had acquired Fontographer only to let it languish, the macromediatized Adobe bought out Visual Infinity only to kill their unequaled suite of film grain management, GrainSurgery 2.  For these reason alone, GrainSurgery 2, I will continue to run Photoshop CS4 until I give up the ghost.
Nobody needs to be reminded of Freehand, part of the Macromedia merger and a casualty abandoned by Adobe.
The innovators are now irrelevant to the Adobe bureaucracy.

  • Photoshop CS6 upgrade reinstall fail

On a Windows Vista service pack 2 machine.
I successfully installed Photoshop CS6 upgrade on my computer and it was up and running.  Two days later I was hit with the FBI moeypack virus and had to do a system restore and then ran Mallwarebytes to get rid of it.  The system restore point was just before I installed CS6 and after the restore, CS6 was gone.   I tried to reinstall CS6 and now the installer fails.  I ran Adobe Support Advisor and it shows no problems.   I ran Adobe creative suite cleaner tool chosing CS6 and it didn't help.  Photoshop CS5 is still on my computer and it still runs OK.  I am at a loss as to what to try next.

Photoshop CS6 in not compatible with Win Vista. Please find the System Requirement: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-photoshop.html#main_ Photoshop_CS6_system_requirements

  • Photoshop CS4 to CS6 upgrade

I ordered the Photoshop CS4 to CS6 package but the box that came has a sticker on it saying that I have to input a CS5 serial number. Do I have the wrong box or can I use this to upgrade my PS CS4?

Under Adobe's new "one version back" upgrade policy, only CS5 users can upgrade to CS6. Hence the sticker, I'm guessing.
However, when CS6 shipped, Adobe granted special dispensation to CS3 and CS4 users who can upgrade to CS6 - but only until 31 Dec 2012.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/faq/upgrade-policy.html
Without seeing the box and the sticker, it's hard to be definitve but my guess is that you have the correct box and you can upgrade to CS6 using that box.

  • Does the end of the year upgrade policy also include just Photoshop?

I understand CS3 and CS4 are eligible for upgrades to CS6 until the end of the year, but what about upgrading from PS4 to PS6? I normally upgrade to every version, but due to being layed up for 8 months with a knee injury money is extremely tight, so I was planning to wait and upgrade from CS4 to CS6. I heard about the new (now old) upgrade policy so I upgraded to CS5 a few days ago. Now I see that Adobe changed the upgrade policy again. Now I'm wondering if I can return CS5 and wait to upgrade to CS6 later in the year when I have more cash flow.

    Hi Coldrake
Yes, all CS3 and CS4 products, whether they're a suite or stand-alone product, like Photoshop, as a one-off arrangement this year only, can wait 'til December 31st 2012 to upgrade directly to CS6... of course, we don't know how much that will cost!
Thank you, pf22, that answers my question perfectly. I'd love to keep PS5, especially with the discount, but as I said, after being off work for so long, money is extremely tight at the moment and will be for the next couple of months.
Of course we also have the "Grace Period" coming up where you could purchase the CS5 upgrade and get CS6 for free
It looks like it's going to be a few months before PS6 will be coming out, so I may be able to swing that, thank you for an excellent suggestion.
Thank you Noel for covering all the bases! I don't have the suite, just Photoshop.
Thanks for both of your replies, they are greatly appreciated.

  • Free CS6 upgrade for student master collection at $599?

Our school sells the Master Collection for $599 (currently CS5.5).  I would like to buy it and the school staff assures me that I'd get the free upgrade to CS6 if I bought it now.  However, that price (which they've had for awhile now, and is not listed as a special or sale price for them) seems to be less than the normal educational price for the Master Collection.  They say the price will go up when they have CS6 to sell.
The adobe upgrade policy says that the following are invalid: "Receipts showing a product price that is discounted more than 25% off the Adobe retail or educational price (some product exceptions apply)"
What is the regular educational price for the CS5.5 Master Collection and does a purchase now at my school qualify for the free upgrade to CS6 Master Collection when it is released?  The price listed on the adobe site for CS6 Master Collection is $799, which would make our school's price 25.03% off that.
I want to buy now but want to be sure to qualify for the discount.
2nd question: if this is eligible for the upgrade, can I buy the Mac version and then switch to the PC version later?  Our school is out of stock on the PC collection and won't get any in until May 4th.  (which is cutting it very close to cutoff date for eligibility on upgrades).

I'm also in the same situation, kind of. I already got my cs5.5 master collection through my school on the 26th. But every other post I've read about the upgrade only says Creative Suite cs5.5 will get upgrade. So I'm trying to find out if people who got the master collection (which comes with the Creative Suites) are eligible for upgrades complimentary? Any help answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • CS5 to CC7: Adobe's Upgrade Policy

Yes, I know there is no CC7 yet, but I was reading about Adobe's upgrade policy and it seems that they've switched to a "one version back" model. When I read the terms, they talk about CS to CS versions, but they don't mention going from CS to CC.  Will I be able to go from CS5 to the next version of CC?

The Cloud subscription model (CC version) has no connection to the Creative Suite versions*.
CS6 is the last in the line of Creative Suites.
There will be no CS7. You can upgrade from CS5 to CS6 but that's the end of the line for upgrades.
    * CS3-CS6 owners are eligible for discounted pricing for their first 12 months of Cloud membership. After that, it's full price.

  • Help needed to get my free CS6 upgrade

Hi fellow Photoshop users, I like others made the forced late 2011 CS4 to CS5 upgrade. Now I have seen where Adobe revised their policy about upgrading qualifications. I feel that I am warranted a free upgrade to CS6 because I was informed it was manditory at the time. Please reply back with stratgey to get Adobe to comply. I have opened support cases only to have Adobe close the cases without any reason or information. Thanks!

I am really disappointed in how Adobe handled the upgrades for the CS6 Photoshop. It is all really unfair... and I do really feel "coerced"
I was told 5 weeks or so ago that I could not upgrade from CS4 to CS6  without upgrading first to CS5.  NOT in 2011... just a few weeks ago.
I knew I wanted CS6 as I had purchased the CS4 Masters Collection a couple of years back.(for thousands of dollars)
So...in order to upgrade I purchased a legal boxed CS5 upgrade disc on Amazon for $179.  But when I tried to upgrade I it would not take because I was upgrading from a Collection. I hadn't realized  that I would need to purchase a CS5 Collection upgrade. I hardly ever used ANY of the other programs outside of Dreamweaver and I really didn't need any Dreamweaver updates for what I do. But I went ahead and bought a smaller Collection CS5 upgrade that included both Photoshop and Dreamweaver as well as a couple of other programs that I will probably never even open, for $519.00!!!
Luckily I knew a friend who was also using CS4 and he said he would buy the Photoshop CS5 upgrade from me for $150.  I wasn't happy to lose the $29 plus shipping but such is life. A week later, my friend called and said he hadn't installed the upgrade and that NOW...because of a uproar among Photoshop CS4 users, Adobe was allowing a straight CS4 to CS6 upgrade and that he would return my disc to me. :-(
So now I have spent some $698 dollars and I still only have a trial version of CS6 and and a legal CS4>CS5 upgrade disc that nobody wants or needs anymore.
Today my CS6 Trial expired. I do like it and I want it, but I have already put out a considerable sum of money trying to get it.  I have been putting off dealing with this because it is surely a total PIA... I really feel I have been ripped-off on this.
Now it looks like I am supposed to put out another $199 to upgrade my CS5 to CS6... So ultimately I would be paying $897 to upgrade to Photoshop CS6... the ONLY program I really wanted to upgrade to begin with. (actually probably more because they will probably want me to freaking upgrade to a CS6 Collection update for another outrageous amount... )
I am surprised that Adobe would treat long time customers so poorly... as Mylenium suggest they should... and Sidney Brock says has occurred.

  • CS6 upgrade will not accept my CS5.5 Serial number

Hello, I installed my previously purchased CS5.5 onto a new 64 bit laptop with Win 8.1 (I had previously tried to install the CS5.5 on a 32 bit machine and decided to uninstall a couple years ago so i did not really use it).  I then purchased and downloaded the CS6 Upgrade. When i start the set up of CS6 it accepts the CS6 serial number but then it does not accept the CS5.5 serial number by stating it is not a qualifying product.  Does anyone please know how i get by this to do the upgrade?  Thanks.

Not a dumb question and luckily, yes, I did select CS5.5 Master Collection from the drop-down.
Actually, I did not realize it but we determined that my CS5.5 version is a volume license whereas I had downloaded a single upgrade of CS6 which I have learned is against Adobe policy.  So, somewhat similar to your second point.  I need to now call Adobe volume sales department to determine next steps.
    Thanks for your help John!

  • AT&T's representative's view of upgrade policy

I just spoke to an AT&T representative (2 actually) and this is what I was told regarding the upgrade policy. I bought the original iPhone 11/2007, then upgraded to 3G on launch day with no subsidized pricing. I want to upgrade to 32GB 3GS, but cannot until 03/12/2010. I called to ask why and was told that since my line bills less than $99.00 a month I am not eligible until then. I either have to pay $499 with new contract or $699 without. I have 3 iphone lines and 2 non-iphone lines on my plan. The $220.00 a month charges are listed on one of the non-iphone lines, because I was told that's how it had to be done when I opened my account. I spend over $400 a month for my service on 5 phones, and they still will not give me the $299 price. Both reps told me it was Apple that set the prices not AT&T. (Which I think is complete BS.) I am REALLY upset that I cannot get the $299 price. I wanted to upgrade 2 phones. Now I am not doing either one. Apple just lost 2 3GS sales because of AT&T's policies.

The 3G was subsidized and you have to either pay the early termination fee or get within a few months of your contact expiring before you can get another iPhone at the subsidized price. AT&T is not doing anything the other carriers are not doing. I used to be with Verizon Worthless and they did the same thing, except they were ruder about it when you asked for an early upgrade.

  • Unable to enter serial number for Master Collection CS6 Upgrade

I recently purchased a Master Collection CS6 upgrade (from 5.5). My CS6 serial number was correctly recognised but it said it couldn't find any software eligible for the upgrade despite Master Collection CS5.5 being installed on my PC (running Windows 7 Ultimate). The screen to enter the serial number of the eligible software doesn't have Master Collection CS5.5 in the drop-down, only CS5. Using that option with my CS5.5 serial number doesn't work. I got no response to a case opened on the support site.
In order to install the CS6 software, I then installed it as a trial version. I now get reminders that I only have x days to go but there is no option to enter my serial number. I assume it thinks I've got a trial version of Creative Cloud.
Adobe Support keep closing cases raised on the spurious grounds that I haven't responded. It is they that are not responding! Anyone able to help?
    Thanks in anticipation.

if the serial number has been used, you won't be able to use that serial and that's the only thing you purchased.
