CSi expansion slots and p2 (pcmcia) and sxs (express card) reading.

i have a mac pro about a 1.5 years old that i do some video editing on (final cut pro).
excuse my ignorance but what are the pci expansion slots for?
do they make cards readers for p2 and sxs cards that fit into
these slots (as opposed to using usb/firewire connections)?

Hi indore,
Yes DV is a good starting point,P2 is great, there are some small issues to get to know about all formats out there these days, use what your comfortable with, or use what your clients will pay for that's a better rule to use.
I posted my results to date at-
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=144502
More testing to make sure all is good is still under way, may be a few weeks yet, i'm getting some colleagues to test on their Macpro's as well. So far all is good.
Cheers

  • Expansion Slot Utility not detecting DeckLink HD Extreme Card

I just installed a DeckLink HD Extreme card in my Mac Pro today including all of the software and drivers. When I went into the Expansion Slot Utility it showed up but said the card was running below the maximum supported speed. So I picked a configuration that would work best for the cards that are in the machine. After restarting and opening the Expansion Slot Utility the card was no longer being detected. I even tried going back to the old configuration uninstalling and reinstalling the software and still it was not detected. Any help would be much appreciated.

Leopard and 2008 don't need or support the utility. The slots are fixed to begin with. Only the 1st gen Mac Pro needed it.

  • Old extreme n, and usb media card reader

hey, i am trying to hook up an iogear usb media card reader, a usb memory stick, and a portable 2.5" hdd to the belkin mac mini usb hub, and the hub to the old airport extreme n base station.
the usb stick and the hard drive are recognized without any problems.
the media card reader shows up in the disks tab of the airport utility, but it doesn't show something is connected to the card reader when a card is added. it just keeps showing 0MB in all four slots.
usb hub is powered, card reader is not.
when i connect the reader to the AEBS directly i get the same result, so i don't think the hub is the problem, since it runs other two devices flawlessly.
usb card reader works fine when connected directly to any computer as well.
any ideas? is it not possible to connect a card reader to the base station?

    Unfortunately not.
The only devices that work are printers, disk drives and hubs.

  • Request for USB and/or CF card reader

As a serious photographer, I would like to see USB ports added to the iPad. The size is perfect for traveling; I'd love to replace the laptop with an iPad. My camera uses Compact Flash cards, so at the least, if adding USB ports is not part of the plan, having a CF card reader for the iPad will be essential for some of us.
My ideal: a way to charge AND download images at the same time. Some days I take quite a few images.

I agree with you, but I doubt that Apple will add much of what we like.
However, you can attach a compact flash reader via the camera connection kit USB dongle and the photo app will import from a CF card in the reader.
When attached to a computer the imported photos on the iPad will appear as an import source in photo app. like Lightroom, Bridge, Aperture etc.
I have successfully imported from my Nikon d3 & d200 compact flash to the iPad and then imported them into Lightroom and Bridge when the iPad was connected.
It handles raw, and raw+jpg and preserves them at full resolution
What's missing in my mind is:
Simple ability to manipulate/collect/organize the images.
    Rename
    Add Metadata
    Backup to external drive(s).
Beyond that I'm willing to wait until I get back to a computer.
When in the filed with my MacBook I:
Upload the images, delete obvious duds, rename them and add metadata.
Then back up to 2 external drives.
Put CF cards back in Camera and format and start shooting again.

  • Tun miniport adapters are not working and the camera card reader is not working on a T61P.

The Microsoft tun miniport adapters #4,2, and 3 are not working.  They display code 10 error message. Also the USB  mass storage device (camera card reader) is not working.
I have tried to uninstall and update the drivers to no avail.  I have used ThinkVantage Tool Box.  It only lets me know that they are not working.  It does say to reinstall them.  I have tried.  All effort has failed.
All was find until I ran several updates via ThinkVantage.
    All suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Tom

You will not lose data if you back up
    Worth doing the basic troubleshooting
    Reset
Restore  best as new since you have issues ,then you will know if it has started to function correctly ,if not .....
Visit Apple store since if it isn't software probably iPhone is on it's way out

  • How to stop and resume smart card reader handle using OCF framework

I need to stop the reader handle and transfer the handle to other application and after reply from that application, i have to resume the reader handle.
I tried Smartcard.shutdown and then I used SmartCard.start but it doesnt help.
Can anyone help me to sort out this issue?
Provide some sample code if possible.
    Thanking you in advance.

with ocf you have CardTerminal instances to represent readers.
Did you try the close() method on your CardTerminal instance?
    afterwards, you can open() it.

  • Early model Mac Pro's Expansion Slot Utility not working with 10.5.6 update

I'm reading that the 10.5.6 update may have crippled the Expansion Slot Utility for early Mac Pros.
I have a 2.66 Mac Pro, and I just installed a Kona 3 card in slot 3. Already had an ATI 1900xt in slot 1. However, the Expansion Slot Utility program detects only the ATI Card.
However, in System Preferences - the PCI column clearly shows slots 1 & 3 are occupied and with drivers installed for the respective boards... The Kona card works for video preview (further indicating that it's installed correctly - but the Expansion Slot Utility is broken), but I understand that the Kona card is operating at the 1x speed, thus crippling it...
Apple please fix this... Any administrators or someone in the loop care to elaborate please...
    Thanks,
    Lonnie

So, here's the deal. Running the Expansion Slot Utility still works for our model of computer - it just doesn't register correctly within the program. This is only a cosmetic flaw. I've confirmed this with AJA and in System Prefs under PCI columns.
Also, AJA recommends 4Lane, slot 3. There it lies. Furthermore slot 4 concerns me - too close to drive bays for proper air circulation and the propensity for over heating.
The main issue of not sleeping has been answered by AJA. Their Kona 3 card does not support sleep.
Guess I'll be turning my computer off instead of sleeping it after hours - no biggee...

  • Can I 'rescan' the PCI expansion slots?

    Howdy...
I have a PCIe Express card reader in my MacPro to read cards from my Sony XDCam. It works very well if I boot with the card in the slot, and I can also 'eject' the card when I'm done, but I can't insert a card while the computer is already running...
Is there any way (script? Terminal command?) that I can get the Mac to rescan the PCIe bus and re-recognize my card? in windows I can 'scan for new devices' which works, but I can't figure out how to do something similar in OS X...
    Any suggestions would be appreciated...
    -Ben

    Howdy...
An Express Card is the same sort of slot that the MacBook Pro has. It reads Express Cards. The Mac Pro does not have this slot, but I have a PCIe card installed in my Mac Pro that enables the MacPro to read express cards.
It works great, and as long as I have a card in the slot when I boot, everything is good. I can then eject the card and everything is still fine. It's just when I reintall the card (wihtout a boot) it is not recognized. Unlike the MBP, where I can insert and remove the card with no issues at all.
I'd like to get that same functionality on the Mac Pro, but I think it requires rescanning the PCIe bus again...
    Any thoughts?

  • I have a Mac Mini, and it won't accept connecting my Sony video camera.  So I got a SD mem card reader to unload my movies from.  It worked the first time I used it a few months ago.  This time it says it doesn't recognize the format I am trying to use?

I have all thenecessary updates.  I have switched over from a PC to Mac back in April and have nad nothing but problems adapting.  I don't know why this worked the first time, and put my videos inti imovie, and now it doesn't recognize it at all.  And the Mem card reader does work, because I just put the SD card from my regular camera into it and it downloaded those fine, it just won't take my movies!

Which sony camera? I have a Sony HDR-CX550 right now and have been able to use the SD card as well as connect the camera directly. I also had CX110 that work too. You may want to try to copy the complete top level folder from the SD card to the Hard drive, then try to "import from Camera archive" and select that folder.

  • Message on the iPad screenCamera and card reader used to much power.

This message we got when trying to send pictures from a Camera and a specific Card  reader to an iPad.
Changed to another Card Reader and all went well! Never heard or saw this message before! Very curious if some one has seen the same message and I wonder why? Tried it on two types of iPad!
Thanks in advantage for a reply!

What type of camera is it ? I know that some Canon cameras need a 'transfer method' menu setting on them changing to 'PTP' - does your camera have a setting which allows you to use PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol or Pictbridge) or 'mass storage device' ?
For the card reader, a lot of readers require more power than is supplied to the iPad's dock - only one of my CF card readers works with my iPad.

  • Blackberry Smart Card Reader 7250 and Blackberry Bold 9000 connecting and pairing

As the subject line states, I am trying to connect and pair the Card Reader with the Device.  I am unsuccessful in following the steps to Pair the Device with the Card Reader.
When I attemp to Click Connect from the Security Options/Smart Card/Registered Reader Drivers/Blackberry, and after I enter the reader ID on the device I receive an error "Connection to unknow device fail"  and then it tries to connect 2 more times, and I receive the error "Unable to connect your Blackberry Smart Card Reader. Please verify that the reader is turned on, that you have correctly specified the reader ID, and that the reader is not alreadt paired with another Blackberry.
    Could someone provide some assistance?

I've received the same error. It's a known issue with a batch of new readers.  I called RIM and they said an updated software package should be made available online in the next day or so which will address/resolve the problem.

  • Mac Mini and Internal Card Reader

I have Windows 7 set up with VM fusion and want the card reader to place the pictures in a file in VM windows to download into my Home Inspection software. Can this be done?

If you are using an HDMI connection, go to Apple / System Preferences / Sound and see if you can select the Built-In Speakers?
If you have headphones, buds or something plugged into the Audio Output jack, unplug it.
If not then perhaps the micro switch inside the Audio Output jack is stuck? In that case, try plugging and unplugging some headphones, buds or something in and out a few times to see if it will un-stick.
If it will not un-stick, then you will need to make an appointment for service.
