CSS 11500 Serial Management Port Parameters

How to change / check the baud rate, parity, and stop bits of the serial management port.
My PC is currently set to 9600,8,1,N and I am receiving garbage. Telnet is ok
Thanks,
Steve

be carefull that the cable for console access is different from any other Cisco device. So, if your cable works for a Cisco router or a Cisco switch, than this is the wrong cable for the CSS.
If you search www.cisco.com for 'css console pinouts' you should find the right settings.

  • Serial management port

Im connectng a dell lattitude D505 running xp and using hyper terminal to connect to a v440 using the serial management port from the serial port on my laptop. If you disconnect the serial management port on the solaris box while its running or if your laptop goes into sleep mode or is powered off, the solaris box will go into OK prompt! Any ideas why this is?

I have a SunBlade 1500 under Solaris 9 and I don't know the Solaris Box. But if it manages the serial ports as Solaris 9 and SunBlade do, I could have one explanation:
All the cases you described match or more accurately are seen by the hadware as a loss of the signal. And hardware and software do not like it at all!!! It seems that your Box hang down at this time. In any time I could give you the advice to disconnect as it must be done the device (here your Laptop) from the Box. And of course when you are connected, suspend the "sleep" of the computer (which is exactly the same thing that it was switched off).
Hope that give you a beginning of explanation!

  • SunFire V880 Serial Management Port connection

    Hi,
I just received a 2nd hand unit V880 without a graphic frame buffer.
When I use a hyperterm to connect to it initially, it display "Please Login:" I keyed-in root & an invalid password, it then again displayed the same prompt.
I left the unit for sometime, after I came back to it, I found the hyperterm does not response anymore.
I subsequently tried the following without able to get the same prompt back:
    1. disconnect, re-connect hyperterm
    2. off & on the V880 & re-connect hyperterm
The hyperterm just displayed Connected & there is nothing in the display area. Pressing enter also did not help.
What do I need to do?
    Thanks,
    Raymond

  • How can I connect to sun fire v125 with serial mgr port by hyperterminal

    Hi there!
My c.o. got a sun fire v125 server. My mission is finish setting up the server. But as I followed the sun
fire v125's document, it aint be connected to this server with serial mgr port by using windows xp hyperterminal .
    My step as:
step1. Find the original RJ45 net cable from the v125 box, and put one side into
    Serial MGR Port of V125.
step2. Combined the RJ45 net cable's other side with DB-9 converter,
then plug the DB-9 converter into the PC's serial port(9 pins).
step3. start the pc(windows xp sp2), and then creat a hyperterminal link in COM1 as:
    Bits/Sec--9600, DataBits--8, Parity--None, Stop bits--1, Flow control--Xon/Xoff
And then pause connect. make it hang up.
step4. push the sun fire v125 power button. after 1mins, resume the hyperterminal,
    connect to the v125.
as above all is all my step here. Somewhere incorrect?if theres no problem, why can't I receive the
    "sc> " promote?
Theres only one thing what i can do is input from keyboard....?
I had known that there will be promoted the "sc> " after you start the connection of hyperterminal with the correct steps?
BTW,I had input "#." with enter key, but it doesnt work!
Is there anybody met this problem as mine? Or can you give me some hits?
    Thank you for your reading.

Im sorry for replying so late.
I'd solved it long time ago.
finally I found I made a mistake that I connect the Serialport Cable which came from PC
to the RJ45(NIC) port which came from Sun Server :-@
If you still can not get the prompts, check these parameters of your hyperterminal:
connect a terminal or a terminal emulator (PC or workstation) to the SC serial management port.
Configure the terminal or terminal emulator with these settings:
    * 9600 baud
    * 8 bits
    * No parity
    * 1 Stop bit
    * No handshaking

  • Management port on CSS 11150

I have a simple question. Can someone tell me how to access the management port on the css 11150?
I configured the ip and mask on the management port and condigured my laptop for a ip on the same network. But i am unable to connect.

what do you mean by connect ?
Are you trying telnet or HTTP ?
Are you able to ping ?
Is the interface showing up ?
Try 10Mb Half duplex set manually and see if it works.
Also, did you reboot the CSS after configuring the ip address/mask for the management interface ?
    Gilles.

  • Unable to set CSS management port to 100Mbits-FD.

This is the first time I've encountered this problem. Thanks in advance!
    CSS 11501 running code 7.30.1.06.

    ARLTRKBAXPS1001(config-if[Ethernet-Mgmt])# phy 100Mbits-FD

    this is normal.
As indicated by the message, the CSS11501 does not support this setting on the ethernet management port.

  • CSS management port securit

    Hi,
Is it possible someone can let me know if the management port on the CSS is out of band? I am assuming it is but haven't managed to fine this in the docs.
    Thanks

Modem support through a console port provides the option of out-of-band command-line interface (CLI) management through a modem, providing flexibility for remote administration.

  • CSS 11500 Responds for any Port

Hopefully this is an easy question but I am having a heck of a time finding an answer.
We have multiple CSS 11500 clusters.  We have found that on all of them, if you try to open a session on any port to an IP address on the backend of the CSS, the CSS will complete the SYN-ACK-ACK session with the client.  This happens regardless of whether there is something on that IP address or not.
    Example:
    Front                           Back
    10.1.1.0/24 --- CSS --- 10.2.2.0/24
Coming from any IP, if I try to telnet to ANY IP on the 10.2.2.0 subnet (whether or not there is an actual server on that IP) on any port (whether or not that port is open or not), the CSS will complete the initial connection.  I have verified this using telnet to numerous ports and viewing the transaction in a packet capture.
Is there any way to shut this off?  This is causing some licensing issues for our security folks that use a vulnerability scanner licensed on number of IP addresses.
    Thanks for any input!

    Thanks for your reply Marvin.
We actually use ACLs already - primarily for purposes of allowing backend servers to reach load-balanced services on the CSS they sit behind or for reverse proxy services.
I have tried specifically blocking access to backend IP addresses that are not used but oddly enough the CSS still replies and opens the initial TCP session just like any other.
I think I'm going to have to open a TAC case on this one.  If they can't answer it, I may be forced to put all of these behind firewalls - which is doable but not ideal.

  • CSS 11500 booting only to Offline DM mode

    Hello,
I setup a new CSS 11500 this morning, going through the steps of setting up the administrator password, IP address for the management console etc, but when continuing the CSS went straight to the offline DM menu. Now rebooting the unit it clears all the tests, loads the operational flash but continues to go straight to the DM menu regardless whether you press <y> or not at the prompt.
I also tried connecting via telnet to the management console but get connection refused.
Any ideas on why the CSS boots only to the DM menu?
    Thanks in advance,
    - Trevor

    Trevor,
once if offdm, attached a laptop with FTP Server on it on the management port.
Then from offdm, you can configure the CSS to boot from FTP server.
Once the box is up and running again, make sure you have an image on disk.
Finally, you don't need a PCMCIA flash and no you should no have received one.

    Gilles.

  • Services with different IP address subnets over CSS 11500 series

    Hi all folks!
I have two CSS 11500 series...
In just a few months i will have ready a DRS (Disaster Recovery Site), where i will have 2 more servers to add to the environment.
But this servers will be in a different subnet from that today i have for the servers who are configured in the current services of my CSS.
So then the doubt i arises is:
Is correct to add two new services with these servers, but using the IP addressing of the DRS site???, and including on the CSS a static route to this network, (of the DRS) in order to reach them?? is it correct, it will work well?
    This would be so....
                 ________________LAN to LAN_____________________
                 |                                                                                |
                 |                                                                                |
    |------SITE A------|                                                        |------SITE B------|
         [Firewall] ===============IPSEC============= [Firewall]
               |                                                                                |
               |                                                                                |
    [CSS-A]-[CSS-B]                                                            [SWITCH]
           |          |                                                                     |         |
         [SWITCH]                                                                    |         |
    [srvA] [srvB] [srvC]                                                          [srvD] [srvE]
So, at [CSS-A] & B, i will put a static route to firewall that know the subnet of site B through the IPSEC tunnel.
So In the CSSs, i will add the new services for the Servers "D" & "E" with the IP address of Site B.
This should be seen as well:
    !*************************** GLOBAL ***************************
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 [IP FIREWALL]
ip route SITE B [IP FIREWALL]
    !************************** SERVICE **************************
    service srvA
      ip address A.A.A.x
      port 8080
    service srvB
      ip address A.A.A.x+1
      port 8080
    service srvC
      ip address A.A.A.x+2
    port 8080
    service srvD
      ip address B.B.B.y
    port 8080
    service srvE
      ip address B.B.B.y+1
    port 8080
I know that this practice is not the most desirable, in fact should use"Basic Global Server Load Balancing Site Redundancy Using the CSS with DNS", but I don't have much time to change the entire environment today, and in this first stage i have to begin with this poor but quick solution that i thought and i wanted to be validated if there is posibliidades this to work
Within their experiences that they say? Will operate?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards!
    Esteban =)

    Daniel!
    Sorry by delay!
Thank you so much for you time for reply.
You have given me a great help to this doubt!
But..using "source group" let me know..
I can´t undertand the really difference between NAT with ACls as you can see at this link: (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps789/products_tech_note09186a0080093dfc.shtml)
    and
this other link, using NAT (from the piont 5), (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps789/products_configuration_example09186a0080093dff.shtml)
where the NAT is configured under a method different from the previous one..
So.. for this scenario described above, which would you recommend using? I would think that the second is the most indicated truth? What do you think?
    Thanks in advance again!!!
    Have nice day!
    Regards.
    Esteban.

  • Sorry Server for CSS 11500

    Hi,
I have a question regarding sorry server configuration on the CSS 11500 series.
Is there a way for the sorry server to ignore the URL path and always send the user traffic to the "root" page (e.g. index.html) of the sorry server web server?
The problem I have is the redirection of the "root" page (url "/") that is configured for the normal traffic is causing the sorry page not to work since the URL path ("/psp/CUSTOMER1/?cmd=login") does not exist on the sorry page web server:
    service Sorry-Server
      protocol tcp
      port 8000
      keepalive type tcp
      ip address 192.168.2.254

        flow-timeout-multiplier 6
        add service server1
        add service server2
        primarySorryServer Sorry-Server
        active
      content Content1-Redirect
        redirect "/psp/CUSTOMER1/?cmd=login"
        vip address 192.168.1.101
        port 80
        protocol tcp
        url "/"
        active
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Best regards,
    Harry

    Hi again,
During a maintenance window I made the following change and that made things a bit better:
    service Sorry-Server
      type redirect
      keepalive type none
      redirect-string "192.168.2.254:8000"
      active
However, since the redirect string points to a private address, Internet users are not able to access the URL.
As a work-around I sent the redirect to a new content rule with a public address and then configured a second sorry page server:
    service Sorry-Server
      type redirect
      keepalive type none
      redirect-string "sorry.example.com:8000"
      active
    service Sorry-Server-2
      ip address 192.168.2.254
      protocol tcp
      port 8000
      keepalive type tcp
      active
    owner Customer1
      content Content2
        vip address x.x.x.x
        add service Sorry-Server-2
        port 8000
        protocol tcp
        active
Is there a better way to do this?
    Best regards,
    Harry

  • Blackberry hijacked my serial com port!

Hello! I'm new to blackberries! When I tried to sync up my old palm device, it wouldn't connect. Checking into my serial com ports, I saw that the Palm M100 (aka old) was configured for com port 4. Looking on my device manager, I noticed that my Curve took over serial com ports 3 and 4. I intend to still use the palm device. How do I get the computer to recognize it without having to uninstall or reinstall anything?

Go ahead and put me on your ignore list please!
First, there is a plethora of messages on this forum and a plethora of information in the NI KnowledgeBase. If someone doesn't make the simple effort to take 5 minutes to perform a search what does that say? The issue being raised has come up, literally, dozens of times. Do you like answering the same question over and over and over and over and over again?
Second, my feelings are not unique. You will find that the irritation of people not bothering to do a simple search is shared by most of the regulars here. Why do you think search engines are available? Just so that ads can be sold?
Third, posting the SAME question in multiple threads is self-defeating. People who try to answer don't know what's already been suggested, and end up wasting their time as well as the poster's time in providing the SAME answer and/or suggestions that were provided in the other thread.
Fourth, simple forum netiquette. In both threads the poster essentially hijacked someone else's thread. This is frowned upon in just about every forum that I've ever seen.
