CSS: "authentication failed" after successful fingerprint authentication - twice!

After successful fingerprint login, CSS states that the Windows password had been changed (it hasn't) and then asked me to verify that the CSS password matched my Windows password; this failes, even though the password entered is correct. This dialog pops up until it is cancelled.
I've also lost the ability to use my fingerprint reader to login to websites, it says that
 - the print is okay, with that green checkmark, but then
 - proceeds to say "authentication failed"
The password manager does not show up any more if started.
@ lenovo: any ideas, this is a very annoying one! And it is old, I think. Any ideas, before I go and buy

I have the same issue here.
The fingerprint software is working perfectly and it is properly linked with the Windows password so I can logon with no problems. However, right after I get the message the password has been changed when it hasn't.
The issues start when I need to use the Thinkvantage Password Manager or any other CCS applications. It does recognize my finger but it says "authentication failed".
I have emailed Lenovo and they recommended me to removed the CCS and the fingerprint software. I did it and it didn't work. Then they said I should take my laptop to a service center because it is no longer in warantee period.
In my case, all these issues began when I updated the CCS to the newer version (8.2)
I have read in other forums that it has to do with TPM or security chip encryption. It seems the CCS has not taken control over it. They state all will be fixed once the chip is clear which is done thru the BIOS>Security Chip>Clear Encryption. The big problem is that all encrypted data is erased in the process!!!
I have used the password manager for so long now with no problems that I have forgotten most of the keywords.

  • ISE 1.2 patch 6 - All Authentications begin failing after about 20 minutes

    Hi all,
    Another strange one I am throwing out to the forum. Basically I have a 5 node deployment (1 x Primary Admin, 1 x Primary Monitoring, 1 x Secondary Admin/Monitoring and 2 x Policy Nodes). The primary authentication method is EAP-TLS or PEAP for wireless only. The deployment in question has been in pilot for about 3 weeks with no issues what so ever.
    As of this morning we rolled into production and all seemed well - about 100 users successfully authed against PSN1 (PSN2 is configured in the WLC as a secondary radius). About 30 minutes after the production rollout authentications began failing for the exact same reason (see attached radius log). I checked all of the certificates as recommended in the log but this was a matter of course in that everything is as it should be.
    My next step was to essentially stop PSN1 (application stop ise) to see if the issue was a problem on the second PSN. All authentications were now succeeding via PSN2. I left it this way for 30 minutes with no drama. I started PSN1 again and authentications began to work....20 minutes later the issue was back. I replicated this issue again to be sure.
    At this point I decided to deregister PSN1 and application reset the node before rejoining with the ISE deployment. Authentications worked well until about 30 minutes later when the issue reappeared. At this point I reloaded all nodes in the ISE deployment to see if this made a difference but the issue still remained.
    Currently I have PSN1 shutdown and all is functioning well - anyone have any ideas??

    I got this fixed via TAC. Basically the following is the bug but it is worth noting that this deployment was a fresh build of 1.2
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuj17272/?reffering_site=dumpcr
    Symptom:
    all auth fails when using the existing identity source sequences after upgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.2.
    Conditions:
    upgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.2 build 899 breaks all auth using identity sequences.
    Basically the fix was to recreate my ID sequences and reapply to the authentication policy. This fixed the issue on the policy node in question.

  • Ntlm authenticated apps fails after 3.1.1 upgrade

    I upgraded my apex instance to 3.1.1 on Friday without any issues. I can log into application builder without any problems and the version 3.1.1.00.09.
    Everything in app builder works as expected. However, when I try to run my NTLM authenticated application, I get errors and the page fails to load.
    Furthermore, this only happens on my 11g database.
    The exact same app, using the same NTLM authentication works just fine on 10g.
    The Apache errors log states:
    mod_plsql: /pls/apex/f HTTP-404 ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel\n
    mod_plsql: Unable to reset state for mode 0: Err 3114 url=>/pls/apex/f           I have PlsqlErrorStyle          DebugStyle set, so the page returns a fair amount of data.

    <b>Update</b>
    For kicks, I added the page sentry function to the list in the <b>wwv_flow_epg_include_mod_local</b> function.
    I bounced both the HTTP Server and the database.
    None of these actions solved the problem.

  • Win XP installation fails after successful Parallels installation...

    Hi:
    I've been trying for the last several hours to install my new copy of Windows XP under Parallels (which bought, installed, and updated to Build 3188 earlier).
    Here's what happens: I get to the final step of the "OS Installation Assistant" in Parallels, where it says to insert the Windows XP CD into the CD-ROM drive. I do so, click "Finish," and after a few moments, my Macbook's SuperDrive spits out the Windows CD (yeah, I know... ).
    That's it.
    Oh, the one time I got the Windows installation process underway, the installation quit, giving me the following error message: "File symc8xx.sys is corrupted. Press any key to continue." This was followed by "Setup failed. Press any key to restart your computer."
    *ANY* help you good folks can offer will be greatly appreciated.

    Since Parallels is not an Apple product, you have better luck posting your question on the Parallels discussion forums rather than an Apple forum that focuses on compatibility issues between Macs and Windows:

    I have a new iMac and a SonyEricsson w850i. I have used iSynch satisfactorily to synch these. I tried yesterday to use it with Bluetooth to synch my Calendar and Contacts with the files on my laptop, but it would not do it. Since then I can no longer synch with the mobile phone: once the process is started the phone immediately drops the connection. I have tried turning both iMac and phone off and on again but the problem persists. What can be done?

    First, try clicking "Reset Sync History..." in iSync preferences, and see if that allows it to sync.
    If not, work through the suggestions on the page below:

  • Windows 7 – 802.1x Authentication fails after wakeup from Sleep/Hibernation

    In our environment we randomly have issues with 802.1x authentications after Sleep or Hibernation of our client-systems.
    Clients have Windows 7 as OS and are up-to-date regarding regular updates/patches. Drivers (at least
    network and chipset) on affected machines have also been updated.
    802.1x authentication method is PEAP (EAP-MSCHAPv2) and systems are validated
    against Active Directory by RADIUS.
    Analyzing the logs of our RADIUS-Server you can see that the client trys to authenticate
    via MAC instead of its DNS-Name/FQDN (desired method). So the request fails and the client is assigned to a different VLAN without access to the company’s resources. Following steps like DHCP work correctly.
    We have enabled the tracing of RAS-components on some of our clients by executing the following command-line: netsh ras set tracing
    * enabled
    Analyzing the client’s log-file “C:\Windows\tracing\svchost_RASCHAP.LOG” it looks like that the
    component is simply not up at that point in time, because there are absolutely no entries making it impossible to search for a specific error/error-code. Side-fact: unplugging the network-cable and plugging it in again forces the client to
    authenticate again – successfully and with entries in the given log.
    There has been an article KB980295 describing my issue but that does not apply to Windows 7. Hotfix KB2736878 cannot be applied (0x80240017
    - install is not needed because no updates are applicable).
    Does anyone have an idea how you could force the component to initialize earlier (if it is possible at all)?
    Any other advice is highly appreciated as well!
    Thanks a lot

    Hi Deason,
    sorry for my very very late reply on this.
    Even if I could not solve the problem yet, I can tell about some progress.
    As both KB-Files (980295 and 2481614) sadly did not help with this at all and even setting the blockperiod to 1 (I saw that 0 doesn't seem to be supported here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831813.aspx) didn't make any difference I
    have been working on how to reproduce the issue. So I wrote a tiny script disabling and enabling the client's network-port on and on (I have removed outputs and logging to keep it short):
    $doAllTheTime = $true
    $i = 0
    $DomainName = (Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_ComputerSystem).domain
    $NWAdapter = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_NetworkAdapter | ? {$_.name -like "*gigabit*"}
    while ($doAllTheTime -eq $true)
    $i++
    $NWAdapter.disable() | out-null; Start-Sleep -Seconds 10
    $NWAdapter.enable() | out-null; Start-Sleep -Seconds 10
    $ping = $null
    $ping = test-connection $DomainName -count 1
    if ($ping -eq $null)
    "Error with connection"; return
    So I kept it running and after a dozens of loops the issue reoccurred. I could see that it is the dot3svc-Service that does not response anymore by the RASCHAP-log given above. Restarting the service manually triggered a re-authentication that was then successful.
    So I added the restart-service-cmdlet to my script in case that the error was detected and configured a Scheduled Task triggered by the event that a network-cable has been plugged in (has to be provided by the driver). Script and Scheduled Task
    have then been deployed to our clients.
    Even if this is no solution it definitely helps with a high rate of incidents -
    but not entirely... so I am still looking for further steps to
    solve this. Any ideas are highly appreciated.
    Thank you very much for your support!!! Uhle

  • 802.1x Authentication for University Network Fails After 10.5.5 Update

    Hi everyone, I hope that someone might be able to help me with my problem. I used to connect to the internet through my university's network at my dorm using the ethernet connection. Even before when I was using 10.5.4 I had to do the 802.1x authentication manually after every boot.
    Now that I updated to 10.5.5 everytime I try to connect it tells me "802.1x Authentication has failed", does anyone have similar problems, solutions??? This is everything the IT department's homepage has to offer: http://www.unibz.it/ict/8021x_mac1/index.html?LanguageID=EN&

    Btw, it seems the update somehow messed up Timemachine as well, but that doesn't bother me as much as the internet connection.

    Hi,
    You probably need to install a root certificate into your Mac's system keychain so that your Mac knows it can trust the University's Certificate Authority (CA).
    They should be able to provide you with a file for the CA and instructions.
    cheers

  • Redirect to custom url after successful authentication by OAM

    Hello,
    I need to redirect the user to some custom url instead of original requested url after successful authentication in OAM 11.1.2 (11g release2).
    The requirement in my case is depending upon the user type and the region(one of the user's ldap attributes) it belongs to, it should be redirected to one of the 2 available applications.
    I have tried implementing the same using custom authentication plugin in which I have used RedirectionActionContext class.
    I have also tried setting plugin response as REDIRECT and specifying the custom page url.
    I have also tried changing the "resource_url" parameter in authentication context.
    However, none of above approaches are working.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks,
    Purva

    Hello,
    I have exactly the same requirement. Have you solved the problem?
    Thanks,

  • SOA Suite 11g TP4 "Configure SOA" step fails, after OC4J startup successful

    I followed the installation instructions and got stuck in step 10d.
    The build fails after announcing "*Trying to override old definition of task admin_client*", Oc4j has already started successfully.
    The soa-infra-java.log file shows the publishing of shared libraries to fail because two libraries aren't found:

    - Java 5 or 6?
    - The preferences are set to use the integrated OC4J, the log refers to "standalone oc4j".
    - How is oc4j started? Must the Environments variables be set through the system properties or on a startup script for JDev?

    You might want to update the page header on the installation instructions to show "Tech Preview 4" instead of 3. Document title at start is correct though.

  • Time machine fails after three successful attempts consistently.

    I am using time machine but it fails after three successful attempts consistently.
    I am using a brand new 4TB G-drive. I have tested with Apple support and they are sure the problem is not with the disk.
    The error message is "Unable to complete back-up folder". System log states:
    Starting standard backup
    Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine/Backups.backupdb
    Error: (22) setxattr for key:com.apple.backupd.ModelID path:/Volumes/Time Machine/Backups.backupdb/Mac Pro Desktop Computer size:9
    Error: (-50) Creating directory 2013-01-25-015650.inProgress

    Error: (22) setxattr for key:com.apple.backupd.ModelID path:/Volumes/Time Machine/Backups.backupdb/Mac Pro Desktop Computer size:9
    Backup failed with error: 2
    I have trawled Google and Apple and seen that this problem has been experienced by many but I have yet to find a solution to resolve my problem.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Chris

    I have seen this precise problem on a client machine.  It would run one to three backups fine, then start giving this error.
    I tried every hint in the other discussions.  I repaired the backup volume.  I ERASED the backup folder and started over.  I erased and reformatted the drive.  Every time, it would get me one to three clean backups, then the same error all over again.  I tested the snot out of the drive and there was absoutely nothing wrong with it as a drive.
    In desperation, I upgraded the client to Mountain Lion.  Mountain Lion took the "bad" backup set just as Snow Leopard had left it, and backed up to it with NO COMPLAINT.  It's still backing up fine several days later.
    I guess the upshot is that Time Machine in Snow Leopard has problems that Time Machine in Mountain Lion has outgrown.

  • Backup Fails after several successful days - errors "Device is not ready" & "The System cannot find the path specified"

    Well I am back again, with another backup issue. After fixing one issue with the backup failing after a reboot, I have encountered another which is starting to cause me a lot of headaches.
    The setup is thus - the backups run on a host machine running Windows Server 2012, this hosts three VM's (1x Server 2012 and 2x2008 Since the 19th of December a single backup drive has been attached for the backups (not ideal but the company had closed for
    the holidays) up until the 26th these backups were working flawlessly.
    On the 26th the backup completed with warnings, transferring a good 90% of the data to the backup (2/3 VMs). On the 27th it transferred a bit more at around 95% (2/3 VMs).  On the 28th, it didn't completely backup a single VM.
    On the 28th this error appeared in the event logs and after checking in the snap-in the same errors appear on the warning days as the errored day.
    The backup operation that started at '‎2014‎-‎12‎-‎28T20:30:09.774946400Z' has failed with following error code '0x80780049' (None of the items included in backup were backed up.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup
    operation once the issue is resolved.
    Thanks in advance/

    Hi,
    Please check the detailed error message in the backup log files in C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsServerBackup. In additional, you could go through the similar thread to help troubleshoot this issue:

  • Yosemite download fails evertime at 850 MB after successful start I get a "calculating" messsage then error code. Other software downloads fine

    Attempting to download Yosemite from the App store leads to a consistent failure at the 850 MB stage of the 5.6GB download. Starts fine on Updates  but then fails after 850 MB and flags up "calculating" followed by an "error" message. Other non-Apple software downloads without any problem. Can anyone through any light on this? I thought using the App store was meant to be a straightforward, oh for a plastic OSX CD in a box.

    Without going into a huge disertation, on this let me just say you are not the first and won't be the last that has had issues with the Matshita 816.
    I did find a work around, that I will explain.
    If you do a lot of burning your drive stores everything in cache files and then all of a sudden will start giving you an error message.
    I found running 3 different utilitys, I run them 1 time a week need to or not and haven't got any errors since.
    Macjanitor.
    http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanitor.html
    Cache Out X.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14850
    Onyx
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html
    These all three do similar thihgs but some do different things.
    Now lets talk media.
    I have had the same problems everyone else has had burning 1X and 2X with some of the poor media out there.
    After doing a little leg work and trying a ton of different media I have found that Maxell 16X DVD-R will burn at 1X through 16X and works very well.
    Be sure to read the packaging and it will tell you this. I opt to use the 3 packs with the individual Jewel cases.(Much Better Quality).
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
    So You try those 3 free and shareware programs and go spend 4 dollars on the Maxell discs and see if that doesn't solve your problem. I sure did mine.
    Cheers Don

  • Outlook 2010 Basic Authentication Fails after Server Update

    It appears that since updating our 2 DCs (Win 03 Enterprise SP2) with windows update released this week (March 10 - fully patched before), Outlook
    users using Basic Authentication all failed to connect to our Ex 03 SP2 server.
    Domain users connecting using NTLM has no problem.  Our Ex server has also been updated ..
    Can anyone suggest how to trouble shoot?  Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
    How did those server use Basic Authentication Set-up? Was there any difference between Domain Users and users who use basic authentication?
    Meanwhile we can start checking below items:
    Ping your Exchange server address/DNS from the client machine which using basic authentication, see if the Exchange server was pingable.
    NSlookup Exchange server address/DNS from the client machine which using basic authentication, see if the address/DNS of the Exchange server could be resolved from client.
    Collecting Outlook log from client machine which using basic authentication, default location is: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\outlook logging\<user email account>-<user>.ost.log
    at current date time.
    Send the log though mail to: [email protected]
    Let me know the result about 1 and 2 here or along with mail. Thanks.

  • Netcfg WPA Authentication/Association Failed

    Hello everybody,
    Yesterday I've installed Arch on my MacBook and after a lot of hassle I managed to get X running. Now, I figured getting my wireless ready...but to no avail. I'm really starting to lose hope since this install has given me a lot of setbacks thus far.
    Anyway, I'm using netcfg to connect to my local network here and I followed all the wikis related wireless networking. I've installed my driver and this seems correct since "iwlist scan" returns all local networks in my area. To start with I've disabled all security temporarily, but even this didn't seem to work. Below my configuration file for my local network is shown:
    CONNECTION="wireless"
    DESCRIPTION="..."
    INTERFACE="eth1"
    SECURITY="none"
    ESSID="bistarac"
    IP="dhcp"
    So when I try to connect to my network using "sudo netcfg bistarac", I get the following output (with debug on):
    ::bistarac up [BUSY]
    Loading profile bistarac
    Configuring interface eth1
    wireless_up stop_wpa eth1
    wireless_up if_up
    wireless_up Configuration generated at /tmp/wpa.eth1/wpa.conf
    wireless_up start_wpa eth1/tmp/wpa.eth1/wpa.conf wext
    wireless_up wpa_check
    ::WPA Authentication/Association Failed [FAIL]
    profile_up connect failed
    Now, the first thing I notice is that there is a whole bunch of WPA stuff going on for an open network...doesn't seem to make sense to me. Also if I set my network up with WPA security and try this again I get exactly the same result. I know that there is a thread about this from a couple of months of ago:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=687722
    But I can't really make much sense from it since I'm not all that into networking. I simply followed the Wiki's about how to get everything done and it isn't working, so either I messed up somewhere along the way or this is (again) some sort of stupid bug. Anyway or another I really hope somebody can help out on this since if I don't get this working anytime soon I'm probably going to give up on Arch on my MacBook.
    It's also worth mentioning that I've used Ubuntu on my MacBook before Arch and my wireless functioned perfectly fine (be it with NetworkManager, which I try to avoid). And for anybody wondering, this is my "lspci | grep Network" output:
    02:00.0 Network Controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4328 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 03)
    I've installed the drivers using the dedicated Wiki and thus the driver from AUR corresponding to this card, but as I said, iwlist works so I don't think the problem is here.
    Also as far as I know I'm using the latest version of netcfg.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    With kind regards,
    Ivan
    EDIT:
    I've also to tried to manually connect to my insecure network using the method outlined in the wireless Wiki, everything seems to go fine until I try to get an IP-adress using dhcpcd:
    sudo dhcpcd eth1
    dhcpcd: eth1: rebinding lease of 192.168.0.102
    dhcpcd: eth1: broadcasting for lease
    dhcpcd: timed out
    So even this doesn't work...I'm really lost.

    Hrm, you might have been right about the eth0 thing. Now I can at least connect to my network manually, netcfg still doesn't work...here is the dmesg right after I issued the command:
