CSS based Website displaying improperly in IE

Please help me!
I am putting together a website and am halfway through the
project and just discovered that it displays terribly in Internet
Explorer while it displays perfectly in Safari and Firefox. I
understand there are browser differences but I just don't know how
to fix this particular issue... it seems like the sidebar at the
right is especially out of sync in Explorer. I have been viewing it
in Explorer 5 on the Mac as I've been building the site to check
for display issues but someone just opened it up in a much later
version of Explorer and it's a mess:( Pls. help! the front page is

Thank you VERY much in advance for your help!

  • CSS Based Design

    Hi All
    A client of mine is looking for a way to manage content on
    their website. I have used contribute 3 before but I have found
    that it isn't too great with CSS based websites.
    Does anyone know if the latest version of Contribute supports
    accessible CSS based websites?... float-based layouts in
    particular.
    Many thanks
    Rit

    I hate to say it, but Contribute's support for CSS is bad.
    Our organization just started offering Contribute to clients who
    have a lower budget (those who can't afford our normal, custom CMS
    tools), and we immediately noticed that Contribute's WYSIWYG
    doesn't render CSS-based layouts properly. In fact, this is an
    understatement. Some pure-CSS layouts are completely unintelligible
    in Contribute--things are all over the place. Therefore, we're
    forced to use hybrid table/css-based layouts for our
    Contribute-managed sites.
    I'm very surprised that Contribute has this issue... in this
    day-and-age of purely CSS-based layouts. Personally, I hate the
    tool (for this, and many other reasons), but alas, our clients have
    demanded it :*(

  • Website display problem

    I am facing a basic problem in a website display. We are using a web-based tool . A particular webpage displays properly at first, but when you scroll up and down for a while, the webpage splits up into two and shows in a strange manner. Any clues how to debug on the same.

    My guess is its a Direct2D Rendering Error
    I have seen flash videos render improperly due to Direct2D
    Try going into about:config and change "mozilla.widget.render-mode" to zero.
    You will probably need to restart firefox and if it still occurs perhaps you could post a snapshot so I can have a better look.

  • I need help finding a workable web program that is not CSS based.  I tried IWeb and it just won't work for me.  Way too limiting.  I've been using a 12 year old copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver, but the new Dreamweaver is CSS

    Been building web pages for nearly 20 years, starting with GoLive.  Went to Dreamweaver about 12 years ago, the Macromedia version.  Tried going to iWeb when it came with a new Mac, but found it way too limiting with it's CSS template base.   Unknowlingly, I then bought a new copy of Dreamweaver.   Ooops, Adobe had bought Macromedia and Dreamweaver, too, is now CSS based, which for my money makes it useless to anyone who likes simplicity.   Now I find that even iWeb has been discontinued.  I was told yesterday that Apple doesn't have a web program any more.   At 12 years old, I just don't think it's practical to try to load my old Macromedia Dreamweaver into the new Mountain Lion (I'm getting a new Mac), though it is running, barely, in Snow Leopard.
    I need to find a web builder program that will permit simple construction of educational pages, nothing fancy, nothing artistic, just create a page, give it a color, type or drag in text, insert a table, insert pix in the table blocks, add text under the pix... done!    I should note that I am not looking to build traffic.  I teach simple things for free and people who want to learn those things (antique sewing machine repair, quilting, building longbows) find me.
    I've downloaded trial versions of half a dozen or so programs and looked at maybe 20 more, but all are either CSS based and drive me insane with requirments for constantly making rules and template models, and/or require that you base your web presence in their server.   Also, many will not work with pages built in other programs.  I maintian a volume of over 1000 web pages, many requiring regular updating, and they have been with the same server for more than 15 years.  I'm not about to change.
    So, anybody know a simple, old fashioned web builder that's happpy on a Mac platform?
    Captain Dick

    Although not supported anymore, iWeb does still function using Mountain Lion...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/mountain-lion.html
    ... and you can purchase it from Amazon.
    Start with a blank page using the Black or WHite template.
    All modern websites use CSS and there are thousands of free templates to be had if you want to use a code entry style application. You will need to go this route if you want to create a site that is viewable on mobile devices although you can create an iPhone version using iWeb...

  • CSS based layouts

    HTML DB's (even 2.0) layout features are based firmly on pure HTML tables. Rows and cells, rowspans/colspans. etc.
    Reading some of the bleeding edge web development sites/blogs out there, they have been proclaiming the death of HTML tables for page layout purposes for years now. CSS support is pretty well established in all major browsers, CSS standards have matured substantially over the past few years.
    What does the HTML DB development team think about adding native support for CSS-based page layouts?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    You can pretty much ,with some exceptions' create a fully XHTML/CSS based templates in HTML DB.
    The Builder will not be doing this for some time yet and some comments in your own post explains why.
    Reading some of the bleeding edge web development sites/blogs out there,I would suspect most people would want production quality not bleeding edge.
    You will notice we have removed pretty much removes all deprecated tags though.
    What follows next is a rant but it's only because I take my HTML 'VERY' seriously, been building pages since the bleeding edge browser was lynx , you have been warned.
    --BEGIN RANT
    CSS support is 'pretty well established' in all major browsers, CSS standards have
    matured substantially over the past few years.I can't even begin to count all the different ways pretty well established does not equal looks the same in all major browsers, if you don't believe me just ask google.
    I don't like pointing at any one browser in particular (all heads look towards Redmond , Washington) but one of these browsers doesn't stack up compared to the others. It is unfortunate that it has the huge install base it does.
    examples of things that just plain suck:
    style="display:inline-table;"
    png's with transparency
    background image under links blinking bug
    caching of backgroud images
    oh and the whole box model thing
    I'm a huge fan of xhtml/css layout's but the css hacks involved, the css issues between different browsers, unless it's a demonstration of how cool you can make things with only <div> tags and css it's not worth the time and effort to get it perfect.
    You need to email Mozilla Foundation and Microsoft and complain to them once they get it right.
    I 'personally' will make it right till then LONG LIVE TABLES!!!!?

  • Centering a table based website.

    Hi,
    I created a table based website. I want to center everything rather than it being left justified.
    I am kinda new to dreamweaver.  Here is a rough copy of the site.
    http://test.taffyproductions.com/
    thanks,
    Gary

    You need three things to center a page.
    1) a valid document type
    2) a width in pixels, % or ems
    3) margin-left and margin-right set to auto.
    Try this.  Copy and paste this code into a new HTML document.
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <style type="text/css">
    body {width: 100%; background:silver}
    #wrapper {
    width: 900px; /**adjust width as needed**/
    margin:0 auto; /**centers on screen**/
    text-align: center; /**centers in older browsers**/
    background: #FFF;
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="wrapper">

  • Place an mp3 player on top of an image in image-based website??

    Hi everyone!
    I am trying to create a website for our company, and have made an image-based website in Photoshop. The whole background is composed of sliced images from a Photoshop file, and I want to add links, drop down menus, a photo slider, and an mp3 player with Dreamweaver. I am having a great deal of trouble as I don't know nearly as much about coding as I would like to!
    Right now I am trying to add an mp3 player to the bottom of our website, but I want it to be on top of the bar at the bottom of the page. Since the bar is technically an image, every time I paste the code for the mp3 player into the HTML, it goes above or below the bar rather than on top of it. Is there any way to remedy this?? Advice would be appreciated! Thanks

    Is there any way we can see your website? Fishing around in the dark is not a good way to give advice.
    I should also mention that the "slicing Photoshop files" method of website building is probably not the way we build websites anymore, if I understand where you are coming from.
    Generally speaking, if you have an image in the background set up in your style sheet, you should be able to put things on top of that image.
    So, let's say we have a div and I'm going to call it "player." We may want to have more than one player on a page, so we'll give it a class:
    CSS:
    .player {
         background-image: url("/path/myimage.jpg");
    HTML:
    <div class="player">
    <audio controls>
      <source src="/path/myaudio.ogg" type="audio/ogg">
      <source src="/path/myaudio.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
    Your browser does not support the audio element.
    </audio>
    </div>
    Now, what I have done here is to create an HTML5 Audio player. The web page with the audio must be HTML5. And you will probably need to edit your .htaccess file to include the following:
    AddType audio/ogg .oga
    AddType video/ogg .ogv
    AddType application/ogg .ogg
    AddHandler application-ogg .ogg .ogv .oga
    If you don't know how to edit an .htaccsss file, you should be able to add those MIME types in your host's Control Panel.
    The way you declare an HTML5 document is to start the document with:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>
    <html>
    This would be before you start your <head> region.
    But I must warn you, I'm offering all of this with a great deal of trepidation. I believe you're putting together a website using tables and inline code for things like backgrounds and such. Modern web design does not use tables to format web pages.
    Without looking at what you're doing, there is a very big limit as to how I can advise you.

  • How can I pubish SWF interactive magazine to flash based website? It's not working!

    I hope someone can help me launch my first interactive magazine (SWF) to our website with ID 5. Okay, my hard copy mag came out great so then I started on the interactive edition. Everything was going swell with adding 3 short videos ( FLV  ) and creating 3 slide shows. When I previewed it by exporting to SWF I could preview it in my browser fine. Page curls, fade in words (although the “hide until animated” options only works in two out of about 7 instances. (same settings) file:///C:/Users/lauralaptop/Documents/NEW%20PUBLICATION%20QUARTERLY%20JOURNAL%202011%20se pt%202/LIFE%20apr-may-june%202011%201st%20issue%20INTERACTIVE%20TRYOUT%20Aug%2031%204pm.ht ml
    I then followed instructions from another Adobe exercise, exported it to Flash, went to Publish Settings, but of course when I pressed “publish” I didn’t get the same result as the teacher…I got an error message about text. I searched a forum with the same message I got and saw that making sure my text setting was set for Classic, solved someone else’s problem. So I did and was able to “publish”. But now, when I open either the SWF or HTML file, it’ just rapidly repeating the 12 pages in my file in a loop!
    file:///C:/Users/lauralaptop/Desktop/LIFE%20apr-may-june%202011%201st%20issue%20INTERACTIV E%20TRYOUT%20Aug%2031%204pm.html
    I have spent most of the summer self teaching myself InDesign CS5 (not easy!) and am excited to be able to put out an interactive SWF file that can be opened in a Flash player through our Flash based website. I feel like I’m just inches away for launch but now I’m getting frustrated. Isn’t this going to be possible?
    Also, when I publish it in Flash, it creates a SWF file AND an HTML file. But on our website, I have only one option to make a link to a document OR an outside link to open a file. How does that work?
    Many thanks for whoever can help me out here. This was supposed to be a spring issue. Had to change it to summer and now I guess it’s a fall launch!

    Thank you for your quick reply, Rob. Well, i can't open the link you gave me to mysite (got a 404 error), could you resend it?
    Originally, I exported the file to SWF (player) and just tried to link that file from our flash based website. It opens fine, page curls fine, slide shows fine, but when you click on the photos with videos, page 5 (father and baby) and two others, the image disappears and only a white comes up to fill that area.
    http://scpres.org/#/media-sermons-online/our-publications. Could you go to this link on our website to see what I mean? Go to the NEWSBREAK TRANSFORMS and click on the Life, Stories of Transformation.
    Rob, here is where i have very limited knowledge: As I said we use a flash based (read very user friendly) web hosting company. When I am in the back end to upload the swf file, I have only one option  - "attach a video, attach a document, attach a link" so how would I upload a "folder" with more than one item to the server?
    I thought it would be considered a video since the SWF file says SWF movie, but when I when i try to upload as a video, it doesn't come up as importable. (am i sounding really stupid?) Maybe I should admit that yes, I'm an ID5 newbie AND yes,  I'm no spring chicken but I have been working in CS2,3,4 for several years and now 5 and am quite proficient in the create aspect of Adobe products. It's just now the technical part about how to actually get my  in work published to the site.There isn't anyone else in my company able to help me so I have to reach out to this forum!
    I love ID and this is just my first effort but I'm looking forward to creating many more interactive magazines for my company.
    Thanks for any help.

  • PHP website displays on web server but only text shows on local testing server

    Hi,  I am not a PHP programmer.
    I tried to get the testing server set up in the DW site definition area but was unsuccessful so I am back tracking to first make sure I have a working testing server. So, here is the info:
    I took on a new client with a simple PHP site, without any databases.
    The site is up and running on the web.
    I would like to eventually get it running on my local machine to integrate editable regions for use with Adobe Contribute.
    I have latest version of WAMP installed running Apache version 2.2.11 and PHP version 5.3.0
    I created a directory in the WAMP "www" project directory and it shows up  like it's supposed to when I browse to "localhost"
    Problem:
    The home page of website displays text but no, images, styles, footer, header, nav links, etc.
    Here is the code for the home page:
                                                                                                                                                                Welcome                         This is the content area. This is the content area. This is the content area.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have spent many hours on this.
    Regards

    Hi,
    Not sure what you have going on there. One thing I would try is to enclose all your php code within <?php code here ?> not <? code here ?>
    Also ADDT does not work fully with php 5.3.0 as this may also be your error. When you say it only shows text do you mean dynamic text values or just text that is not dynamic?

    My 20" 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo had become almost useless due to freezes and crashes- with NO crash reports in the logs.
    They were often preceeded by video glitches, so I assumed it was a bad video card- unfortunately soldered to mother board.
    Apparently, from forum postings, this is not an uncommon problem. The computer would run longer if the day was cooler, but rarely more than 10 minutes, so I suspected it was aggravated by heat.
    Then I found this post from Bodomann on an Apple Support forum:
    "Following up on my previous posting regarding my son's late model 2006 iMac that required a $900 logic board replacement:
    Turns out the problem is apparently related to a bad CPU temp sensor. I installed 'iMac Fan Control' (Google it) which reported the CPU temp always at 32 degrees Fahrenheit (obviously incorrect). The same software allowed me to adjust the CPU fan manually. After multiple trials I set the CPU speed to 2800RPM after which the system would run forever - never freezing with the dreaded grey box 'reboot me' screen. I tried several times reverting the software to default speeds and the system would always crash within 10 minutes. "
    I downloaded free Fan Control 1.2 for Imac from Derman Enterprises (they have an Intel iMac and a Mac Book/Pro version). It installs as a system preferences control panel. I cranked up all three fan speeds. The fans sped up noticeably. Horizontal lines have gone from screen (so far), no color artifacts and no crashes yet. I may have a real computer back! Hope Apple checks this out-
    The control panel also gives the temps sensors are reporting at the CPU, hard drive and DVD drive. The CPU sensor reports the CPU temp as 32 degrees F- which is clearly wrong, unless Apple has been installing little refrigerators inside.
    So thanks to Bodomann for posting- Hats off and three cheers to Derman and Cristoph for source code.

    There's a rectangular box on the home page below the search box. It has three websites displayed in it . It could be as a result of my visiting certain websites, not sure. I'd like to empty that box. What is the procedure for doing that?

    I don't know what ''you're'' talking about without seeing a picture. The default Firefox 4+ homepage of '''about:home''' doesn't display 3 "websites" in the box below the searchcontainer, unless someone has hacked your local storage - that's why I was asking to see a screenshot.

    If its animated you'll want to convert it to an FLV file and embed it in your webpage.

    Otherwise a standard JPEG or PNG image file should suffice.

  • Creating template areas when using CSS based layout

    Hi:
    I'm ransitioning to pure CSS based layouts. When I used tables for layouts I could select a table cell and make that an editable template region. But when I'm setting everything up in Divs, you can't "select" a div in Layout mode. Indeed, layout mode doesn't really work at all - things are shown all jumbled and you have to use Preview or open in a browser window to see how things will look. (I'm not using the grid - maybe I should?) Is there a way to select a div and make it an editable template region?
    I'm using GoLive CS2 on a Mac.
    Thanks!
