CSS not being accessed on certain Web sites
When I access www.thebytestopshere.com (my Web site), none of the text is rendered according to the rules set forth in the .css file. It does render correctly if I access the files from my C:\ drive. Everything renders properly in Internet Explorer, and in other versions of FireFox installed on other computers. However, if I start a "private browsing session" in FireFox, everything appears to render perfectly. I tried to submit feedback to Mozilla (unsuccessfully), and now I am seeking assistance. Is it possible to make private browsing sessions the default? If so, what are the ramifications? I would hate to have to go back to using IE, but this problem is troublesome, and makes no apparent sense. Can you help?
Clear the cache for sites that have loading problems.<br>
https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20clear%20the%20cache<br>
Also if this site has to work in Firefox, you can try to reduce the number of programming errors, that is always very helpful to avoid problems.

Problem with pr1.1 access on certain web site , im...
Hi all,
I have a problem on my n8 with pr1.1, i can't acess this site, i have always a blank page and no video can be read.
Sorry for the example but this site cause the problem.
Thank's for help
Moderator note: web site URL removed as it appears highly inappropriate to be mentioned in this forum.Having had to help a very embarrassed lady who was working in one of our Nokia Care call centres with a similar query back in my days as a contact centre trainer, I can quote from the results of the investigation that we made at the time and advise you that some of the... what is the best way to put this?... Some of the sites of the type to which you refer use slightly different standards of streaming video, or bespoke video formats similar to Flash video that require browser plugins to work; and that regrettably these particular sites tend to be compatible with PC browsers but not with mobile devices.

Both my iMac and macbook pro will not connect to a certain web site?
Both my macs (21" new iMac & a 2008 macbook pro) will not connect to foxcycling.co.uk. I know the site is live as I can access on my iphone and ipad.
From what I've read on the forums its a settings issue which probably migrated from the macbook to the iMac when I migrated the data.
Very frustrating ....
Any idea's and simple solutions?
Both systems up to date etcOK, OS X does not include Adobe Flash. The website is probably Flash based. Chrome has Flash incorporated into it. If you want to download and install Flash visit Adobe's website and download Flash for your system.

Pictures will not load on one certain web site
The pictures on any page from <www.gizmag.com> will not load. It is the only site I have ever had a problem with.
Do you see the images in Tools > Page Info > Media (http://images.gizmag.com) ?
Make sure that you do not block third-party images.
Verify that the pref <b>permissions.default.image</b> is set to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.<br />
You can open about: pages via the location bar like you open a website.
You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
* Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
* Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
* Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
* Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
* Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
* If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain. -
I can't access to certain web sites
I can't access to several websites (www.isisparenting.com, www.etvnet.com), including my internet television. So, I'm wasting my money. Traceroute revealed that certain nods are unavailable and stop signal passing. This is weird because the idea of Internet is based on re-routing if such kind of things happens. I chatted to Verizon representative (chat ID# 12261042593) and was suprised to know that this issue is "out of their boundaries". Is this my Internet provider, I ask myself? Seems like charging money is done better by them.
I use MAC so neither firewall nor antivirus are installed that could potentially block some sites. I did basic things like restarting computer, router, trying different browsers. Nothing helped.
Very important that I also tryed to connect via AT&T 3G on my phone and successfully accessed those sites. So, this is obviously Verizon problem.
So, this is tracerouting info for etvnet.com:

Go to Solution.yeah they have a two to four hour lease time with their ip's. so without calling them and asking that they release the ip address, the 20 minutes would be too short timewise.,

firefox 4 beta ended up on certain web sites grinding to a halt then stopped responding igoogle is a prime example firefox 3.6 is fine with the web site it was not doing it till the 12th beta version and its happened on two systems so im not alone its resulted in me removing firefox 4 and i will wait until its officially released
Although FF4 is so nice I'm almost ready to ditch iGoogle!
Please fix what appears to be an RSS/iGoogle issue with FF4...
Gmail is fine, but titles dont show in most RSS feed gadgets and no stories, strangely, apart from this one:
http://www.google.com.au/ig/directory?hl=en&url=www.google.com/ig/modules/builtin_news_technology.xml
Which if you enter the last part of the url reports that
"<Content type="html">
This is a builtin module, so the UserPrefs and Content are ignored."

Access to certain internet sites/services not working
A couple of days ago, my access to certain internet sites as well as my Mail programme and another email client app stopped making successful connections. I can open many web pages, but some do not work. Specifically, the local library where I can login to check the online catalogue doesn't work. My Mail app won't connect either. I also use another email app called First Class for work and it can't connect to the online server. If I start up Network Diagnostics and change from Airport or Built-in Ethernet it will work, at least until I quit the app and reboot it, then it can't make the connection. I have checked and replaced cables, removed the Airport and gone direct with Built-in Ethernet, etc. This phenomenon happens with all five user accounts on the computer. Other computers in our home which are connect to the LAN have no such behaviours happening, which leads me to conclude something is not right on the iMac we use all the time.
Any ideas?Hi Dennis, and welcome to the Discussions!
My guess at this point is that you should drag these files to the Desktop for possible later replacement should it not work, then reboot & setup Networking/Internet again...

Certain web sites won't load on any browser on Macbook Pro
Starting yesterday certain web sites won't load on any browser (Safari or Chrome). These include sites like the New England Journal of Medicine, Washington Post, and English Bulldog News. I get an error message in Safari that the server took too long to respond and in Chrome I get a connection timeout error message. I updated Adobe Flash with a clean install as I was unable to update using the standard method due to connection timeout. That restored my access to YouTube video but today it takes ~2 minutes to load a YT video. Web sites are loading fine on my phone and household PCs.
Not sure if it is notable that my internet loading capacity has been very slow for some time. I worked with the internet company to increase the network speed but my computer has not seen benefit. No problems on the PCs in our house but my Macbook very frequently gets partially "kicked-off" the network as indicated by yellow lights seen next to the "internet" and "server" items in my Network Diagnostics utility.
I looked at old threads and ran EtreCheck (see results copied below) as was recommended to another user several months ago, but would appreciate any thoughts about where to go from here. Could it be malware? Or just a classic case of operator error? Here are the EtreCheck "red" items extracted from the full report below:

TimeMatters Adobe plugin causes problems with certain Web sites
During a recent upgrade of Adobe professional (6.0 to 8.0) on a Windows 2000 TS we discovered that a program called TimeMatters had installed a couple of plugins to IE 6 including an Adobe plugin. The Adobe plugin caused certain Web sites to be inaccessible. Once we removed the TimeMatters Adobe plugin we were able to access the sites we previously could not access.
Good to know. Both useful pieces of knowledge for others if something similar happens to them - Adobe plug-ins not necessarily from Adobe.

Help - can't access my staging web site
Hello
A while back I wrote in seeking advice re: losing my access to a staging web site - Camelot kindly wrote the following, which I did but it didn't work...
"Provided you're an admin on your system the easiest way is to open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app and run the command:
sudo echo "11.11.111.111 www.ekekekek.com" >> /etc/hosts
exactly as written (changing the IP address if you need to). This command uses sudo to elevate your privileges. You'll be asked to authenticate by typing in your password (which won't be visible), then it'll run the 'echo' command which simply prints whatever's within the quotes and appends it to the file /etc/hosts. "
Very helpful, but it didn't give me access to my staging site...last week my mac G5 crashed and had a kernel panic - spent about 1 1/2 days on the phone with half a dozen Apple techs trying to fix - it's fixed but now for whatever reason I can't access my Staging web site through any browser, though our live site is OK from any browser.
So what can I do to again have access to the staging site? Are there more steps I should know in addition to Camelot's directions? What?
I'm not a techy at all but designer so the more specific, very much appreciated.
Thanks very much
KentOK so I figured out that I was supposed to go to
Terminal/file/New Command to type in Camelot's code -
which I did, got the password prompt, wrote it, it
accepted it and came back with this: (the IP and name
below, I've changed for this post only)
"12.12.121.271 www.mycertainname.com">>/etc/hosts
[Process completed]
Hmm. That looks a little odd to me. First off, did you include the "sudo echo" part at the beginning from Camelot's post? I'm also a little curious about the "[process completed]" part. Usually, I come straight back to the prompt.
But when I now go to type in my staging site's name
in the browser, I get another web site which has the
same name, still can't access this site of mine.
I don't give my staging sites the same names, so I'm not sure how that would work if it had the same name as another site. For example, if I have a domain called "mydomain.com," the real web server would be "www.mydomain.com" and my staging server would be
something like "staging.mydomain.com." That way, if I want to look at the real site, I type in one address. I type in the other if I want the staging server. You can't (easily) have the same text address (www.mydomain.com) resolve to different IP addresses. That requires some special DNS tricks that are beyond the abilities of the /etc/hosts file.
At this point, re-run this Terminal command and post the results:
<pre class="command">cat /etc/hosts</pre>Also, I can't figure out how to do this from the Network Utility, but you can check and see where your Mac is getting its lookup information by using another Terminal program called lookupd. You can also use it to flush the DNS cache, in case that's what's causing it to go to the other site. To flush the cache, type this in the Terminal at the prompt:
<pre class="command">sudo lookupd -flushcache</pre>You should just get the prompt back when it's done. There's no feedback.
To check where your Mac is getting its lookups, you use lookupd in an interactive mode. First, you type:
<pre class="command">lookupd -d</pre>At the prompt in the Terminal window. Then you'll get a few lines of text and a ">" prompt. Type "hostWithName", then a space and your host's name, so it looks like this:
<pre class="command">> hostWithName: www.apple.com</pre>When you hit the enter key, it'll do the lookup and give you a few lines information:
<pre class="command">Dictionary: "DNS: host www.apple.com.akadns.net"
lookup_DNSdomain: apple.com.akadns.net
lookup_DNSserver: 208.67.222.222
lookup_DNS_time_tolive: 58
lookup_DNStimestamp: 1167796142
lookupagent: DNSAgent
lookup_infosystem: DNS
interface: 4
ip_address: 17.112.152.32
name: www.apple.com.akadns.net www.apple.com
+ Category: host
+ Time to live: 43200
+ Age: 0 (expires in 43200 seconds)
+ Negative: No
+ Cache hits: 0
+ Retain count: 4</pre>Notice how it mentions DNS servers in several places, including "DNSAgent". That meant it used the DNS server at 208.67.222.222 to find the address for www.apple.com. Now, if I try it with a staging server (hosted on my iMac in this case), see what happens:
<pre class="command">> hostWithName: test.mydomain.com
Dictionary: "FF: host test.mydomain.com"
lookupagent: FFAgent
lookupvalidation: /etc/hosts 2 1166756640
ip_address: 127.0.0.1
name: test.mydomain.com
+ Category: host
+ Time to live: 43200
+ Age: 0 (expires in 43200 seconds)
+ Negative: No
+ Cache hits: 0
+ Retain count: 3</pre>Now, see how it says it looked it up using the FFAgent (Flat File), and even says it got it from /etc/hosts? If you're seeing anything except for FFAgent, then it's not looking in /etc/hosts for the info. There are ways to change the lookup order lookupd uses, but I'm pretty certain it was already set to use the flat files before DNS way before Panther.
To quit the lookupd program, just type "quit" at the prompt.

Java script problems preventing log in to certain web sites
Java problems preventing log-in to certain web sites when using Safari or Chrome browsers
I am unable to log into certain websites uaing Safari, Google Chrome and FIrefox.
Safari just gives me a red exclamation mark.
Google Chrome does the same thing.
Firefox at least gives me this error message:
"Your browser does not have the Sun Java system component installed or it is incorrectly installed. In order to run the platform, please download and install the latest version by clicking here."
So i click on the link and it takes me here:
http://www.java.com/en/
which is a download site for the latest version of Java. When i click on the download button i get taken to this website:
http://www.java.com/en/download/apple_manual.jsp?locale=en
which basically says that "Apple supplies their own version of Java". There is a link to the Apple store and instructions on how to get the latest software updates for your operating system (mine is OS X 10.6.8 - Snow Leopard).
I have the latest version of all updates, there is nothing for me to update!!
So i search the Apple store support area for the latest version of Java and download that (Java For Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8). Turns out i already have this version on my Mac. Still doesnt work!!!
Am not impressed. I read somewhere that Apple is always behind in its Java updates and if a website you are trying to access has a later version, well, to bad for you. If that is the case that is very poor form for a company with record Billion dollar profits. This experience has put me off purchasing further Macs. -

From this day on I can't gain access to some web sites that require a log/pass because it says it is incorrect. ( Note the password I type is the correct one and works with explorer...).
One of these sites is msn passport.net: in this case the web site asks me to rewrite some characters that appear in a box, and when I do it says that they don't match.
It seems as if the charcters I write are not interpreted the same way by the web site.
I have cookies active, I emptyied cache... don't have other ideas.
Anyone can be of help?Update: I ran Console upon trying to load a web site that won't load. Here are the messages from that action with any identical messages deleted:

i'm unable to print pdf file from certain web site. I just changed over to Mavericks.
You will need to access that PDF on your computer first, before you can print it — unless that PDF is corrupted, which occasionally happens. Your printer needs to be configured and working.
Default PDF web-browser plug-in in Safari, latest (Firefox/Chrome) also built-in.
Click on the remote PDF link to open in browser
On Mavericks, you will need to click through security challenges for the PDF
File menu > Print
Right-click on remote PDF file and then choose Download Linked File As...Open that file in /Applications/Preview.appFile > print
Adobe Reader 11.0.04 PDF plug-in
Same security challenges on Mavericks as first bullet
With PDF imaged in browser, either select print icon from the plug-in toolbar, or mouse over the bottom one inch of displayed document and you will see a printer icon in the popup toolbar. Use that.
