CSS with OS X newbie problem

Hi!
I'm a complete newbie to DW but I've just undertaken a Two
day intensive on a PC with MX 2004. Got a site going, basic,
learning CSS. But the way of using this seems to be different in
windows.. Is this true? On my Mac G5 I am getting a choice of drop
downCSS. When I go to the drop down menu on advanced I only have a
choice of 4 styles! a:hover for eg. When i try to type in my own as
i did on the course I get a pop up "this is not a valid CSS 1
selector" whereas on the course I could use any html tag and then
name the file. Can anyone enlighten my stupidity? Any help warmly
appreciated.

Try deleting the prefs and saved application state, also be sure you are updated to 12.1.

We have an strange issue when we try to access to the management of the CSS with SSH protocol: we need to put the username twice.

Hello Dani,
This has been the behavior of the CSS when logging in via SSH since the product was introduced. So yes, this is normal behavior for the CSS.

Newbie:Problems with SCSI root disk

Hello
I have periodic problems with no matter what disk I put in my root partition. My Sun has several disks, so I can take another disk not being used and configure it as my new root disk, installing Solaris root on it.
But when, this way, I replace the disk by another "fresh" disk and reinstall Solaris all goes Ok during some time (days or months) until suddenly I get I/O Errors allways in that disk.
I use a E250 with Solaris8. The problem also arises with Solaris7.
If I do a probe-scsi-all at ok prompt I frequently see hardware errors in that disk. All those errors where not present previously when my disk wan't the root.
What is corrupting my disks a I use them?
Am I missing something when I put a new disk? Should I change the ID of my previous SCSI disk?
If so, how?

Are you using the disks in the same slot? It may be the controller....

Can I use CSS with PS Web Gallery Preset?

Using DW CS4. I wanted to create a web gallery with captions under the thumbnail images. I could not get captions to show up using the workspace output tool in Bridge, so I used the web gallery plug-in and preset in Photoshop. The doc title and description from the metadata shows up with each thumbnail and large photo, which is what I wanted. I added an Iframe to make the gallery show up in my web page layout with all the links I wanted, and I re-wrote part of the preset html to eliminate some of the extra preset gallery text at the top of the gallery pages. I am using a transitional doc type.
It all worked out just fine and the pages are working as planned.
However, when I used DW to validate the gallery pages, the report showed errors because the font attributes for the gallery pages are controlled by html and not by CSS. There are two problems cited in the report:
The tag "center" is not allowed within: <p>
In HTML 4.0, FONT is deprecated... consider using style sheets instead.
Questions: On the gallery pages generated by the PS plug-in and pre-set, is there a way to control font attributes with a style sheet instead of using the pre-existing html styling? Do I need to be concerned about the attributes being deprecated?

I used an iframe (as opposed to a frame) as suggested in an article by David Powers about embedding a gallery into a web page. He says the iframe is acceptable in html, and no problem with the iframe itself was indicated during validation, just the FONT attributes from the PS preset I used. In my current gallery, thumbnail captions appear from the metadata for each photograph. For each large image, both the title and the description come from the photo's metadata. This works well for my purpose, and I want to avoid re-entering each title and description. I guess my question could be better stated by asking if CSS can be added to the preset to apply to captions coming from the metadata of each photo.
Regarding the lightbox approach you suggest, I looked at the example and do not see captions under the thumbnails. Can captions be added to the thumbnail images? (It is essential that my thumbnails have captions.)
Customers need to see the name of each plant when they browse thumbnails in order to select items (daylily plants) of interest.
Because I am dealing with hundreds of photos and will need to update frequently, I am looking for a solution that is efficient and fairly easy to maintain. So far, the PS web gallery preset meets my needs better than anything else I have found, but I thought I'd try to find out if I should and can fix the FONT attribute validation problem.

my problem raised sometimes and sometimes not, when the user trying to access the server on:

the user will get nothing on the Web browser but when tried to use this url:

which is the same page its working fine....!!
again this problem not always there sometimes it happen sometimes not !
please advice if this is a server problem or the CSS pronlem or misconfiguration ?

This sometimes happens. This is an issue with the server. When such things happen go step by step.

CSS with JSC

I am using two style sheets fro my jsp page.One fro the screen media and the other for the print media. For print media I am hiding out unwanted elements using CSS selectors.I have a problem here. The JSC renderer generates id's for html span elements in the following format:
form1:<parent-name>:<child-name>.Now,CSS doesnt allow using colons with id's.So,I am not able to use those id's to hied out unwanted elements. I have also tried other ways of doing this..but in vain.I cud easily place the elements in a div tag and use the id for that to display out,but then I cannot keep adding div's for each and evry elemetn i want to hide out.
Please let me know if there's a plausible solution to this.

Instead of creating ID selector, why don't you create class selector and set them to the component styleclass attribute.
You could use two stylesheet for the two different user agent.
You could use the Link components to set two different stylesheets and conditionally render them

I had saw some total using CSS with div maked Web Site, how to
control the sliced image after that Photoshop sliced it?

It seems you have exported the html from photoshop into
Dreamweaver.
This is not the best way to build a page. You should slice up
your images
and then export the images only into a folder. You then build
the page
using these exported images in your table or css layout. You
can place the
images directly into table cells or divs or use them as
background images
via css.

Using CSS With id=form1:txtbox1

I am having a problem using CSS with the id's that JSF creates for the components on my page. After specifying an id="txtbox1", the rendering of the page changes my id to "form1:txtbox1". This is giving me problems applying styles to that element by ID. Please let me know if there is a way around this besides having unique classes for the css.

you can use styleClass or style instead of id.
For example,
.text1 { font-size: 14px }
<h:outputText styleClass="text1" />
or
<h:outputText style="font-size: 14px" />
*NOTE: the 'style' at JSF is similiar to 'style' in CSS

I want to pass along a couple of tips that will get you more and better response on this list.
1) There is an un-written rule that says more "stars" is better than just one star. Giving a one star rating will probably eliminate that responder from individuals that are willing to anser your question.
2) If someone gives you an answer that meets your needs, reply to that answer and say that it worked.
3) If someone suggests that you look at an example, DO IT! LV comes with a wonderful set of examples that demonstate almost all of the core functionality of LV. Familiarity with all of the LV examples will get you through about 80% of the Certified LabVIEW Developer exam.
4) If you have a question first search the examples for something tha
t may help you. If you can not find an example that is exactly what you want, find one that is close and post a question along the lines of "I want to do something similar to example X, how can I modify it to do Y".
5) Some of the greatest LabVIEW minds offer there services and advice for free on this exchange. If you treat them good, they can get you through almost every challenge that can be encountered in LV.
6) If English is not your native language, post your question in the language you favor. There is probably someone around that can help. "We're big, we're bad, we're international!"

Frustrating problem: Help with add file name problem with Photoshop CS4. What happens is this. When I am in PS CS4 or CS3 and run the following script it runs fine. When I am in Bridge and go to tools/photoshop/batch and run the same script it runs until it wants interaction with preference.rulerunits. How do I get it to quit doing this so I can run in batch mode? Any help is appreciated. HLower

Mid 2011 mbp i7 with a SSD has problems, including grey screen/blue screen/beeping/freezing when I stream live video (i.e. watch espn or time warner cable) Help? Ideas?

Recently my Macbook Pro (June 2011, i7, 8gb RAM, 512gb SSD, AMD Radeon 6750, Mountain Lion - since July - currently 10.8.2) has been presenting me with an array of problems, usually initiated when I am streaming live video. I was streaming Time Warner Cable on 12/9 and it gave me what looked like the blue screen of death. It started up after about five attempts that time. The other day, after about a week of not using the computer, it wouldn't boot past the grey screen. I (option) started it and it gave me two boot choices, the regular HD and a "10.8 restore" option. The HD gave me the grey screen and the restore option gave me the dark blue screen. I reset PRAM and that didn't work. After a force (x) start it worked. Today, I was using "Watch ESPN" and the screen froze and the computer did some kind of repeating RAM beep or something. I rebooted and it started up fine. I'm not watching any videos anymore, but this is a problem since the primary purpose for my mbp is video editing. I'm still under AppleCare but I find more solid answers in the forums or at least better questions for the AppleCare people.
Anybody have similar experiences, or a solid idea of what the heck has happened to my machine?

I'm not really sure what method that person was talking about. I just read he had a successful install so I posted it.
But I'll hazard a guess
1. copy your entire drive to a backup drive
2. boot into that drive and test it out - make sure its a flawless backup, it works, and the hard drive has no problems
3. eject that drive, disconnect it and reboot into the leopard install dvd
4. erase your main hard drive using disc utilities on the leopard install dvd -- you've made a backup, made sure that backup was good, and disconnected it so it's currently safely disconnected from the leopard install you're about to do. Also, on the hard drive you're erasing and installing leopard on to, many people recommend "Zeroing" it as well as erasing it. That option is part of the erase function in disc utilities on the leopard install disc.
5. do a clean install of leopard
6. follow step 4 from that original post exactly as that person described to do.
7. read the rest of what they said
That's pretty much it. With the backup/erase/clean install/import/ you pretty much get everything you need exactly the way you want it with very few things missing -- and you've done this over a clean install. Plus that poster did mention that you can select what you want to import from your backup hard drive.
It sounds like its a "clean install" method that gives you control via "import from machine" option in the installer. Control over what parts of your "old mac" you want to import into your "new leopard mac".
Hopefully that helps. It sounds more involved, but its actually pretty quick and provides you with a perfectly save backup in case anything goes wrong with the leopard install.

I install LION on my mac pro 2008 and it's alway's pop with " there was a problem connecting to the server " Time Capsule" .How can i remove this popup. My Time machine is working fine and also rename it. But the popup keeps on coming with the old name.

I have a BT Infinity router plugged into the Time Capsule, not sure where the radio settings are?
They are able to use the network settings of the TC i.e. they can connect to the internet via the wifi through the TC but when they try and connect to the AirPort Disk this is where it is not allowing a connection.
I don;t have the drive shared out at all at the moment, is this necessary? How do I do this if so?

9 month old Zen Micro with the headphone jack problem

So, I've been putting up with the headphone jack problem for a few months now, and i've finally decided to get it repaired or fixed. I emailed Creative a few months back and they told me to send it in. My question is, since I am out of warranty, will they repair the unit or send me a whole new one all together?

Actually, I just sent in my 7-month old Micro in b/c of the headphone jack problem and they sent me a brand new shrink-wrapped one. They <EM>didn't </EM>charge me for anything. All I had to do was wait 2 weeks for them to send it back to me (grueling but doable) and pay about 2.44 for shipping the micro to them. So now I'd have three batteries if it weren't for the fact that one of them swelled up; I have NO IDEA how that happened. So yeah I guess the point of the post is that you don't get charged anything even if you're out of the 90-day labor warranty.

You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.
