Yes, you need to have properly configured and working hardware VSS provider so actual snapshot creation and mount and work with VEEAM would take minimal amount of time. You need to kick your SAN vendor for that.
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • Failover cluster-Online(redirected) access message

    Hi,
I have a four node cluster with CSV enabled. Out of the three disks in CSV, one of them is showing  the status as "online(redirected access)". The other two disks are showing the correct status "Online". When checking the "critical
events" section of the failover cluster i could see the following message:
Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume4' ('Cluster Disk 1') is no longer directly accessible from this cluster node. I/O access will be redirected to the storage device over the network through the node that owns the volume. This may result in degraded performance.
If redirected access is turned on for this volume, please turn it off. If redirected access is turned off, please troubleshoot this node's connectivity to the storage device and I/O will resume to a healthy state
I'm using win 2008 R2. How should i know the exact cause of the  above issue?
I checked the four possible causes as per http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/12/16/troubleshooting-redirected-access-on-a-cluster-shared-volume-csv.aspx
    Please help me.
    Regards,
    Jaffer

    Hi,
I used perfmon counters on all the nodes and checked the "Cluster CSV File System" - Redirected Read Bytes & Redirected Write Bytes". I checked on all the four nodes.
On hpv7, i can see both "Redirected Read Bytes & Redirected Write Bytes" to volume4 as zero.
However on other nodes, "Redirected Read Bytes & Redirected Write Bytes" to  volume4 are having non-zero values.
So is the storage connection from hpv7 to volume4 having issues?
    Please update.
    Thanks,
    Jaffer Amin

  • 2012 R2 iSCSI CSV not failing over when storage NICs disabled (no redirected access)

We have a couple of simple two node Hyper-V clusters. They are fresh installs with 2012R2 (running on Cisco UCS blades).
They are configured with dedicated NIC for Management, 2x dedicated NICs for storage (using MPIO and NetApp DSM) and then a trunk for VM traffic with virtual adapters for CSV, Live Migration and Heartbeat. Binding orders all set and priorities.
With storage, we have a 1GB Quorum disk and then a temporary 500GB CSV.
All is healthy and happy, I can move VMs around, move the CSV around, fail hosts etc and all works fine.
HOWEVER..... If I disable BOTH of the iSCSI NICs on one of the host (the host that currently owns the CSV), then all hell breaks out. I would have expected that the CSV would go into redirected mode and use the connection from the other node? The CSV disappears
from FCM temporarily, then comes back and goes red (Offline). It doesn't even try to failover to the other node. If I manually move it over to the other node then the CSV comes straight back online.
Watching in Disk Manager on both nodes I can see on the effected host that the volumes do not disappear once it looses the iSCSI connection. I'm pretty sure that with the iSCSI disconnected (iscsicpl showing "reconnecting" state) that those disks
should disappear? But perhaps that is my problem here.
Is the expected behavior or does it sound wrong? If so, any ideas?
Also - I've noticed that in FCM, my cluster networks all go to a state of showing a red question mark over them with the exception of the management NIC. It feels like the cluster is having a fit and failing to communicate properly once I disable the iSCSI
    NICs.
    Any input greatly appreciated!

I think I might have found the answer......
The AD objects for the clusters had been moved from the Computers OU into a newly created OU. I'm suspecting that the cluster node computer objects didn't have perms to the cluster object within that OU and that was causing the issue. I know I've seen cluster
object issues before when moving to a new OU.
All has started working again for the moment so I now just need to investigate what permissions I need on the new OU so that I can move the cluster object in.

  • Firefox 9.0.1 keeps hanging once I access a website with video, when I write e-mails etc. If a press ctrl+alt+del, opens a window to confirm closing, and firefox works again. When I close that confirm window, firefox immediately hangs again.

It stops working if I access websites with videos, and all sort of more complex flash. It I try to write an e-mail, it also stops. I can't do anything. PC keeps working, though. So I press ctrl+alt+del. It opens that window asking if you want to close all the tabs. I notice that firefox start to work again, behind that window. But, once I close the window, it stops again. Sometimes I can close the tab with the video before it hangs again, which can take a few ctr+alt+del's. It doesn't happen with other browsers! It started 1 week ago. Is it an extension? Or a virus (i use avast)? Thank you!

  • RV220W - port redirection/access rules with multiple WAN IPs

I've just installed a Cisco RV220W - which works fine for outbound traffic, however for inbound it seems unable to work with multiple WAN IPs.
We have a block of 6 WAN IPs assigned to us by our ISP, and I want to make use of all of them to expose certain ports on our servers to the outside world.
I've tried to do this with Access Rules (using HTTP as an example) with the following settings:
Connection Type: Inbound (WAN (Internet) > LAN (Local Network))
    Action: Always Allow
    Service: HTTP
    Source IP: Single Address
Start: <one of the WAN IPs>
Send to Local Server (DNAT IP): <IP of the internal server>
Use Other WAN (Internet) IP Address: disabled
    Rule Status: Enabled
    Yet the server/port remains inaccessible.
    I've tried:
rebooting the server with a power off/on again
implementing the same settings in port forwarding
triple-checking all IP addresses being used
The only way I've got it working is by changing the access rule so that it applies to any source address rather than one specific one...  however that's not a solution for us as we need to use specific IP addresses for specific internal servers/ports.
The router's admin interface certainly suggests this should be possible, however making use of it seems to break all incoming access!
    Any suggestions welcome.

You should be using "ANY" as the source IP, as you are publishing your internal server to the internet and internet means the request comes from any source IP (you don't know what it is, so it will be any.
Basically, you want any source IP to hit one of your WAN IPs on port 80, and then your firewall will redirect that request to the internal server's private IP address on same port 80. And when the response comes back from the internal server, the firewall will already have this translate entry in it so the reverse NAT will happen (you don't need configure this, it is default firewall feature).
I hope I have answered your question well.
Please mark as correct if you like the response.
    Thanks

The system was indeed hung but unfortunately there is no usable information here about determining why. Research the NETCONSOLE and NETDUMP (or KDUMP) facilities; these can help get log messages that may not get written to the storage media (/var/log/messages).
Also, keep a serial console or a similar feature like a putty session connected to the system console. You may see messages there that you cannot get anywhere else.
If you can, file a trouble report and get support help.

  • Solaris 8 hangs and data access error on reboot

    Hi
    using solaris 5.8 on UltraSPARC-IIi 360MHz.
I know it is an old hardware but similiar hardware is running fine. here is the issue,
System booted : works okay for some time then display was hung so system was rebooted ..it gave data access error. again rebooted and it came up fine..
I have pasted the /var/adm/messages here..
    http://pastebin.com/m5d2d1d53
Is it a CPU problem or Hard disk or memory issue ? or something else ?
what could be solution , a kernel patch is an option ?
    uname -a
    SunOS sparc5 5.8 Generic_108528-07 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10
test-all at OBP did not show any error.. passed all.
    Thanks

I cant see the /var/adm/messages output, Since you have already performed a Full Diagnostic check, then you boot your solaris using CD and then perform full FSCK on root File Systems and see any errors get reported. Keep doing fsck 2 -3 times untill all the errors are clean.
Also you must check the latest patches available for this system architecture.

  • Time capsule set up fine but time machine hangs up when accessed

    hi,
i just bought my mac book pro this year. then, purchased 1TB Time capsule. i had set up the time cap after 2 days with the time machine. it worked well but i cannot print when the printer cable is attached to the time cap. then, i missed several scheduled back ups due to electricity interruptions and even resorted to deleting the sparsebundle to start anew. when i enter time machine, i can see the outerspace background but the finder window and everything else could not be accessed. it just freezes. i brought my time cap to istore (reseller store here in the phil) and fortunately, they facilitated to replace my time cap with a new one.
with the new time cap, i rushed to set it up. initial back up has been done. my problems are:
    1. i can enter time machine, but i could not access anything. the time line freezes and so with the finder window. i even resorted to ctrl option esc to get out of time machine; and
    2. i still could not print via time capsule.
please help me. the discussion portion of apple website is the only direct line of help available as i am located far from the apple reseller. i don't have the landline telephone so i could not directly call apple support.
    help me please....

I had this problem with my Time Machine drive very recently. I wasn't using a Time Capsule but it sounds exactly like my problem.
Time Machine would backup to my external drive with no problems but every time I wanted to go into the program, it would freeze. It would be fine in the current time, (when you first enter Time Machine) but if I tried to go back in time, the animation would happen, but I wouldn't be able to click on anything in the finder Window. The only way to get out of it was, as you said, to press Apple, Option and Escape.
The way I solved this was to use Disk Utility on my external drive. I had tried before but when I clicked on verify or repair disk it just sat there for ages doing nothing. What you need to do is select the Time Capsule drive in Disk Utility and then do a repair on it.
Warning though, it will take about an hour to complete. It took probably about 20 minutes for mine to even start repairing. But it does work, I did it on mine and now Time Machine is fully working again.
    Hope this helps

  • Redirected access for this Cluster shared volume on or off?

    Hi.
What does this do and does it need to be on or off?
    Thanks

Quick migration and live migration are two means to the same end.  Live Migration moves the memory contents of a running VM from one host in a cluster to another host in the cluster (changing in 2012 to any host to any host).  Connection to the
VM is maintained during the whole process so users do not lose connectivity to the running machine.
Quick migration saves the state of the running VM.  Think of it as being similar to what you do when you put your laptop in standby.  The contents of the running VM are written to disk.  When this is complete, the VM is paused, ownership of
the VM is transferred to the receiving node, memory is loaded from the saved information, and the VM is unpaused.  During the time the machine is paused, all access is lost to it.  This process generally takes much longer than a live migration because
information has to written and read from disk.
Most of the time it makes more practical sense to use live migration rather than quick migration.  But there still are cases when it makes sense to do QM.  For example, QM is not going to put any load on the network, whereas LM will saturate the
    network during the memory transfer.
I see from your other post that you are using EMC's PowerPath.  You might want to check with them to ensure you have it configured correctly.  They have some pretty detailed step-by-step instructions, and if things aren't done exactly right, you
are almost guaranteed to have some issues.  Because you are using EMC's PowerPath, they become the point of contact for storage issues, not Microsoft.

  • PowerPoint 2013 / 365 hangs with Microsoft Accessibility

I am not sure whether it is a correct place to post such problem.
Please point me to the correct place for this bug.
    Download Microsoft tool:
    Accessible Event Watcher
Run it with the following configuration:
WinEvent (Out of context) , Event: OBJ_FOCUS , Properties: Name, Role, State.
    See the following video:
Run Power Point , click on the splash screen with left and right mouse clicks.
    Press Alt+F4 to close it.
After few runs PowerPoint hangs and won't exit.
It is easy to notice that thread of Accessible Events hangs as well.

  • CSV Redirected status is not displayed in cluster MMC

I've seen a strange behaviour in the cluster's MMC
I have created a cluster with 2 Windows Server 2012 R2 and a HP MSA FC storage.
2 LUNs were created : one for quorum and the other for VHDX storage configured as CSV.
In order to test redirected access of CSV disk, I've unmapped the storage LUN for node 2 from within the MSA management interface (SMU).
    Then :
    - Node 1 is accessing fine the LUN
    - Node 2 can't access it through FC
As expected node 2 didn't loose access to storage. Get-ClusterSharedVolumeState shows that the volume is "BlockRedirected" for node 2. While copying data on the CSV from node 2 I can see that the network dedicated to CSV is heavy loaded.
With the Cluster MMC, things are more complicated : the CSV status is green "OnLine" (I expected to see yellow / redirected). Right Click / Properties shows "no" for redirected access... (it is actually true!)
The only way to figure out that the disk is redirected is displaying critical events from event log for this disk.
Is it a normal behaviour ? Shouldn't the MMC display the actual status of the disk ?

Infact, I couldn't check this on a Windows Server 2012. However, I know that this counter is incorrect on a 2012 R2. Even the host is in redirected mode, the status says false.
Few weeks back, I was trying to capture the CSV Status in my
Hyper-V dashboard using this option - but dropped that idea as it was not working on 2012 R2. I did this check only on R2 as my lab only have R2 and I assumed that as we have an alternate with 2012 R2, may be deprecated. Now we can conclude that we
cannot make use of sharedvolumeinfo property.
The option available right now in my mind is to check for the event and double check for the number of cluster disk visible on each host, Though its not the best way.
    Get-Disk |where {$_.isClustered -eq "True"}
I am also keen to get this information as I would like to pinpoint the DISK which is in CSV redirected mode on my next version of Dashboard.  Lets see if any of our friends could make an easy way.
    Good luck !

McAfee filter driver conflicts with a VSS and that leads to a redirected mode (one of the reasons 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster is going to redirected mode, other one is data path broken - clearly not your case).
That's a known issue with patch available. See:

    Hope this helped :)

  • File copy speeds to CSV vs non-CSV

I'm working on bringing up a 2012 R2 cluster and doing a basic test.  In this cluster, I have two adapters for iSCSI traffic, one for network traffic, and one for the heartbeat.  Cluster node has all the current updates on it.  Everything
is set up correctly as far as I can see.  I'm taking a folder with 1GB of random files in it and copying it from the C: drive of a node to an iSCSI LUN.  If I have the LUN set up as a non-CSV disk, the copy happens about three time faster than if
I have it set up as a CSV disk.  All I'm doing is using FCM to change the disk from CSV to non-CSV (right-click, Remove from CSV, right-click, Add to CSV).  I can swap it back and forth and each time the copy process is about three time slower when
it's a CSV.  Am I missing something here?  I've been through all the usual stuff with regard to the iSCSI adapters, MPIO, drivers, etc.  But I don't think that would have anything to do with this anyway.  The disk is accessed the same with
regard to all that whether it's CSV or not, unless I'm missing something.  Right now, I only have a single node configured in the cluster, so it's definitely not anything to do with the CSV being in redirected mode.
I'm not trying to establish any particular transfer speed, I know file transfers are different than actual workloads and performance tools like iometer when it comes to actual numbers.  But it seems to me like the transfers should be close
to the same whether the disk is a CSV or not, since I'm not changing anything else.

Which system owns the CSV?  If the system from which you are copying does not own the CSV then all the metadata updates have to go across the network to be handled by the node that does own the CSV.  If you are copying a lot of little
    files, there is more metadata.
Actually, metadata updates always happen in redirected IO from what I'm reading, that has been the part that I was missing.  This explains it.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612868.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 "When certain small changes occur in the file system on a CSV volume, this metadata must be synchronized on each of the physical nodes that access the
LUN, not only on the single coordinator node... These metadata update operations occur in parallel across the cluster networks by using SMB 3.0. "
So a file copy, even when done on a coordinator node, does the metadata updates in redirected mode.  Other articles seem to say the same thing, though not always clearly.  So it's still accurate to say that a file copy isn't the best way to measure
CSV performance, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of pointing to the (I think) important distinction regarding how the metadata updates work.  From what I can see, that distinction is probably trumping anything else such as who is the
coordinator node, CSV cache, etc.  For me anyway, it makes a 3X performance difference, so I think that's pretty significant.

  • Hyper-V R2 Cluster and CSV

Hi, I'm pretty new in the hyper-v world.
And I'm planning to migrate more servers to an hyper-v failover cluster with Fibre Channel SAN. I'm wondering about the CSV and the possibility to have less LUN with that. There is a lot of ressources about CSV since Windows Server 2008 R2, and all are speaking
    about the advantages!
But I'm asking if there is some requirement other than those described here: http://technet.microsoft.com/fr-fr/library/jj612868.aspx#BKMK_Reqs
1/ If I use only a dedicated 1Gbs network interface for CSV, will I slowdown the VMachines?
2/ Is the Hyper-v physical HardDrive heavily used?
3/ If a node loses the storage connectivity is it possible (with no human intervention) to switch the concerned VMachines to an other node to avoid the I/O Redirection?
.... Or other things to take care?
    Regards,
    L.H.

    1. Do you mean connections to storage or connections between nodes for CSV? If it's to storage, then any amount of network speed you can use up to the highest speed of the storage is "the best". I find that most people dramatically overestimate how fast
their storage really is. 2-4 Gbps is typically a sufficient pipe for most needs. If you mean between nodes, then 1Gbps is usually sufficient.
    2. No. Its major events will be boot up, patching, and shut down. During normal operations, the drive space that holds Hyper-V and the management operating system will be almost completely idle.
    3. Sort of. The built-in tools won't do it, because not needing to move the VMs is one of the reasons that Redirected Access exists. But, you could script a Live Migration to respond to a storage outage.
Or other things to take care?
There are always other considerations, but that question is a little too wide.

  • How to understand "CSV network"

    my understanding is like:
suppose you have a 2 node Hyper-v cluster. Normally, the active node in the cluster should have Direct I/O to the VHD file stored in the CSV on a SAN. However, SAN connection may be lost on this node which could prevent the node’s I/O
to the CSV. In this scenario, the active node would try to communicate through the "CSV Network" to the passive node on which the physical connection (say it's iSCSI HBA) to the SAN storage is still good.  The network the
active node use in such scenario is called a "CSV netowrk"?
    Am i understanding it right?
