CTD Examination experience sharing....

Hi all,
I am posting this thread for different purpose. Aim of it is to get example questions,Important links, test formats related to CTD Test.It is not for to get any practice exams .I knew about CTD preparation guide.
For me more important are your valuable experience and suggestions related to CTD.
For this I am requesting  to all big guns to share their experiences, who had already appeared for the NI CTD test.
I would like to know..
1>Your expectation from the test.
2>Do's N Don't`during examination.
3>Problem faced .
4>Formula of success
5>Important area to prepare
Share your own experience, help me and other also.....

Hello!
I recently passed the CTD exam and here's how I prepared (I am going to be careful not to say anything about the actual test)...
I read through the entire TestStand1 course book and a few select chapters from the TestStand2 course book.  If you don't have these books you can either take the classes or talk with your local NI rep about acquiring them.  This reviews many of the topics listed on the preparation guide but to cover my bases I also refreshed on some TestStand functionality by going through several of the example sequences provided with TestStand.  The TestStand manual is also a very valuable resource.
All of this reading helps but nothing can substitute experience using TestStand.  If you are experienced with TestStand you might be able to fill in the blanks by reading about the stuff you are not familiar with but if you haven't your probably going to have a hard time.
Hope that helps and good luck!

  • SHARING A LR4 CATALOG/PREVIEW VIA AN EXTERNAL DRIVE - A FAST ONE

Does anyone have experience sharing a LR4 catalog via an external drive. My stuff all come in at different times so we would not be accessing it simulteaneously. Trying to keep the maintenance time down as I spend a lot of time working on my catalog then having to syncronize and import the catalogs on the other MACs to reflect my changes to my local catalog. My thinking is to use an external drive and when the other team member comes in to use the external to work off of. We pass it back and forth.
Any pitfalls or problems I should be aware off???

  • Sharing FCS files betw. Intel Mac and a G5 PowerPC

Does anyone have any experience sharing files between Intel portable MacBook/MacBook Pros and G5 PowerPCs?
Is it possible, and if so, can anyone share their experiences?
I'm asking because a friend wants to barter his PowerPC G5 and 23" monitor to me in exchange for some manhours editing his project, and I was thinking of taking it on as an extra editing FCS station, even though when I bought FCS (in June 2006) I began runnning it on an Intel portable.
Will my FCS discs install on it? And if so, will I be able to share project files between a PowerPC G5 and my portable?
Any anecdotes or dire warnings are greatly appreciated.

thanks very much for the clarification!
"not at the same time"? Not sure I follow. Do you mean a single FCS academic license can run on only two machines simultaneously? Or do I need a new license for each workstation?
What I'd like to do is continue running my copy of FCS1 Academic on my portable, and then install it on an additional machine (either the G5 or a MacBook Pro I'm planning to get next month), and edit between the two.
Again, thanks very much for the input.

  • Sharing JVM applet cache among multiple users (crosspost)

Does anyone have experience sharing a single JVM applet cache among multiple users?
(This is a crosspost of http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5157018. I know crossposting is frowned on, but it went a week without replies in the plug-in forum.)
Our browser plugin clients run in a Citrix environment where Windows Terminal Services servers host the client sessions for multiple users and the users only have a thin client hardware device at their desks. We've discovered that as a consequence of optimizing certain aspects of the Citrix environment a user's JVM cache is remote to the server hosting his/her browser session, and that the remote caching is a performance bottleneck.
Turning applet caching off improves performance considerably, but we'd like to get the cache directed locally to the server hosting the browser session and turn caching back on. But since hundreds of users times tens of servers in the "Citrix farm" adds up to a lot of cache disk space, we're wondering about users sharing a JVM cache. This already happens when one runs multiple browser/plugin sessions locally on a regular workstation. But what about fifty users' separate plugins sharing a single applet cache? It appears from file timestamps that jars'/classes' idx files in a cache are updated when a file is loaded from the cache. What if multiple browser plugins were trying to do this concurrently? Is there a risk of locking, or a data integrity exposure? Or are those idx updates insignificant since they don't affect the last modified date or the sticky cache version number? (Most apps use a 1_5_0_2 JRE, but some apps require a 1.4 plugin.)
    Thanks,
    Brian

This sounds very similar to a problem that's occuring for us at the moment. Did you ever find some solution to this problem?

    Jon.

  • GR/IR account difference for posting in second local currency

    Hello SAP Gurus,
We have set up additional local currency in OB22 (Currency type 30, rate type M, Translation on the basis of "Transaction Currency", date type: 3). We have set up exchange rates in Tr. code: OB08 and using GR based IR.Now:
    1. Create a account assigned PO (with Goods receipt)  in foreign Currency say EUR 500. Local currency and additional local currency are same say AUD. Exchange Rate for PO is .0.61120  EUR = 1 AUD.
    2. Did MiGO with Rate .0.62220 = 1AUD system posted folllowing  Entries:
TC= Transaction Currency, LC= Local Currency, LC2= Additional Local Currency
    Dr EXpense A/C  500 (TC=EUR)     803.60(LC=AUD)         803.60 (LC2=AUD)
    Cr GR/IR Clg A/C  500 (TC=EUR)     803.60(LC=AUD)         803.60 (LC2=AUD)
    3. Did MIRO with rate: 0.61550 EUR= 1AUD system is posting following entries (WRONG)
    Cr  Vendor A/C      500 (TC=EUR)    812.35 (LC2=AUD)         812.35 (LC2=AUD)
    Dr  GR/IR Clg A/C  500 (TC=EUR)     803.60(LC=AUD)         812.35 (LC2=AUD)
    Dr  Expense A/C    0   (TC=EUR)         8.75 (LC=AUD)              *0.00(LC2=AUD)*
What I think it must do is keep GR/IR clearing AC same for both local currency and LC2  and post difference to original expense account in local and LC2 currency.
It use to work perfectly but seems something gone wrong recently in system(with some OSS note or something else) that seems to have cause this issue.
Any knowledge/experience sharing will be highly appreciated.

  • Drobo not working after 10.5.8 update

My drobo stopped working after 10.5.8 update. Now I lost all my data on the drobo. this doesn't make me happy.

'We are using the USB interface (as opposed to firewire) because we want to share the drive across the network - it's not always about speed.'
This makes absolutely no sense to me.. but maybe I am wrong : Because firewire is much more reliable than USB and manages to keep highest transfer rates (without jumping up and down as USB would do as soon as I/Os go up...) Especially on a Mac ! (only for the latency I am not too sure, but I guess it is similar on fw and USB.. just increase the caching if you stream hd movies on the network...
From my experience, sharing a USB drive on the network is probably much worse.. you can find example on the web.. (Orb, Plex and else will start drop frames when connecting to a USB shared drive.)
I currently use my drobo plugged to my Mini with a fw800 to 400 cable,4*1.5tb hdds, I also share it on the network with gigabit ethernet, and get much better performances than any usb shared drive.
Sorry I do not have any precize measurement, but I can upload or download a 6tb file in about 10minutes over gigabit ethernet, and I guess the bottleneck is now the Drobo controller...
The protocol you use may have an impact as well (afp, smb,...) but whatever you use, I suppose Firewire will be faster.
As a general advice, do not update or upgrade anything in general before you have a backup of your data, this is true for any storage system, Drobo or not.
Oh, and Data redundancy on a raid is not a backup of course.

  • Xsan and Final Cut Pro Setup

Hello All, I am setting up an Xsan system to be used for Final Cut Pro HD editing. I have 2 full XRAIDs using 400 gb disks. I will have 2 PowerMac G5 editing stations. All connected together using a SanBox 5200 switch and a gigabit ethernet switch for the network.
I would like some feedback on RAID setup.
I plan on creating a 2 disk Metadata array using RAID 0, the remaining 4 disks on the controller ( one hot spare) will be used as an ingestion area for HD video data. I am planning on setting this up as RAID 0 as well. My thinking here is that I dont need the redundancy in the Ingestion volume because we will keep the original HD tapes that the data was ingested from. The hot spare will provide a very small amount of protection to the 2 RAID 0 arrays on this controller. On the other side of the XRAID I will build a 6 disk RAID 5 array for the production files. The other XRAID will be setup as 2 additional 6 disk RAID 5 production arrays. All of the production arrays will be added to a storage pool and a volume created from the pool.
Is this the preffered method? what would you do or have done? Any drawbacks to the method I described. Does a volume built from RAID 5 arrays and hosted on 3 controllers have enough speed for HD editing? Any experiences shared is helpful info.
    Thanks.
    Eric

    Eric,
First, I'd recommend you spend the $15 and pick up "The Xsan Quick-Reference Guide" by PeachPit press. It goes into a fair bit of detail on recommended configurations.
Second, I'm going to assume you meant a 2-disk RAID 1 for metadata. RAID 0 would be useless for this purpose -- Metadata isn't high-bandwidth, and you NEED protection from it. Lose your metadata volume, lose your SAN. It's that simple. So use a RAID 1 mirror for it.
Also, for ingest, I'd recommend RAID 5. RAID 5 is the same speed as RAID 0, and it has protection.
Note that a hot spare is absolutely worthless when you're dealing with RAID 0. It will give you no protection -- when a disk in RAID 0 fails, the game is over. No restoration is possible on the hot spare -- there is no parity data that can be used to reconstruct the data.
So I'd do a 2-disk RAID 1 for metadata, and either 4 or 5 disks RAID 5 for ingest (depending on if you want a hot spare). Note, that you will not be able to ingest uncompressed HD onto this volume -- the bandwidth required is way too high. You could do DVCPRO-HD, perhaps.
If you set up 3 controllers as "6-disk RAID 5 + hot spare," your available bandwidth should be in the 200-240 MB/sec range, which is sufficient for HD editing. It will only be sufficient for one user at a time, of course, and you'd want to avoid having someone do big file copies on the SAN while the editing is taking place.

  • Problem releasing webservice for runtime in non-modifiable client

    Hi
       I created a webservice definition ( virtual interface & all dependent objects )  in a development client ( client- A ) of a ECC5.0 instance.
Now, we have another client ( client-B ) in the same server that we want to release the webservice for SOAP runtime. ( reason is that the webservice is not available at runtime in this client-B client )
This client-B has status - non-modifiable and hence cannot use WSCONFIG --> create option to release it for runtime.
How do we release this webservice definition to client - B . I tried a SCC1 transaction on client-B pointing to the transport that contains the WS definition in client-A. I got dictionary errors indicating that the WS definition objects are all client independent.
Is there something I am missing ? Any thoughts/similar experiences shared is appreciated.

Good to hear it worked out for you. But like I already said, I haven't experienced anything like this, but for similar problems this is exactly what we did to solve it. But you're probably right, that this is no long term solution. There should be another way of doing this, but no experience in that field expertise.

  • Export arabic character into csv file turns into question mark in sql dev

    Hi,
I am trying to export a table's output that contains some arabic and english mixed data, when I try to export it in csv, all the arabic characters change into question mark (?) but the same export is working fine on .xls or .xlsx.
Since we have to export a huge data and csv is much faster thar .xls, kindly let me know why it is happening and what is the solution for this.
Well, we are on Oracle 11gR2 and Sql Dev is 3.1
Appreciate your time and experience sharing.
    Regards.

    Hi,
Since you say it works for xls but not csv, and the only applicable preference setting ( Tools|Preferences|Database|Utilities|Export|Encoding ) should apply to all export formats, I would imagine this is a bug. Especially if the encoding specified in Preferences is consistent with the client OS settings. I was not able to find any prior bug logged against the Export utility for this issue.
I logged a bug for this:
Bug 13993410 - FORUM: ARABIC CHARACTER ENCODING RESPECTED FOR XLS BUT NOT CSV

  • Password protected home Wi-Fi not working with iPhone. Help.

I will try to make this short and to the point. My phone will detect the home network, ask me for the password, join it, and show the wifi icon, full to the top.
But it doesn't allow for surfing the net/sending email. It also doesn't show the ip address and such info in the networking section.
My wifi works all other places, even two others that are PW protected.
I can normally troubleshoot my way out of these issues and I know a little bit about this kinda thing to solve the issue, but I am stumpted. Any help or similar experiences shared here would be appreciated.

If nothing is goin yourway and you have done the basic troubleshooting tasks, then all is left for you to resolved this issue is to do a restore, everything will be fine and working after that.
I had the exact same problem with an iPhone - a swift restore solved everything and everything is happy ever after.

  • X200 keeps loading in Win XP booting screen

    Hi Experts,
I did a hard shut down by pressing the power on button for a few seconds when the X200 was doing update right before shutting down. Then my X200 keeps loading in Win XP booting screen after that.
I tried to boot it to safe mode or last configure which the windows works well but the X200 still keeps in loading in Win XP booting screen.
I just tried a Hard disk drive diagnostics with Hard disk drive diagnostics program before loading to Win XP booting screen and it returned a error "error code 0000: read verification failed".
I do need your kind advice and experience sharing to help me out.
    1. Have you encountered similar problem and how to recover the X200?
    2. If it cannot be recovered, how can I extract my data in the hard disk before i do a clean installation of Win XP?
Your kind advice and sharing is extremely appreciated.
    Thank you so much.
    Gary

that sounds like a harddrive failure. You can try take out the hdd and put into an external usb hdd caddy, then plug this into an external computer and try to recover the files that way.

  • Where to buy Canon original accessories ??

The original boxes with some accessories of my new purchase. 7D Mk2 and 24 70 F4IS were taken by somebody from my front porch. (My bad. I put the Canon boxes inside a snow thrower box. The big box was left outside the front porch pending sorting for disposal and it was gone in an hour)
Now, I just have the camera and lens plus chargers and caps. Everything else is gone.
I am looking to buy back whatever is missing. I have emailed Canon e-store but have not received reply from them. Any suggestions where to buy back the missing cable protector, USB cable, disc, lens hood, lens pouch and others.
    Thanks for any experience shared.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm trying to figure out what "everything else" is that's gone missing.
The lens would have included a storage bag, the lens hood, and a front & back cap.  It would have also included an instruction sheet (you can download that electronically) and the warranty card (but you can register that online and don't need the card.)
You can get a list of everything that would have been in the box here:  http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_7d_mark_ii#BoxContent
    Basically it would have had
    - camera body (which you have)
    - body cap (not sure if you have that, but that's easily replaced)
    - Canon wide strap for 7D II (and this would have had a small rubber eyepiece cover on the strap for taking long exposure shots.  But if you've attached that to the camera -- and most people do -- then I suspect you still have that.
    - Battery charger LC-E6 (but I think you said you have that)
    - Battery LP-E6N (but I suspect that was probably in your camera if you have the camera - so hopefully that's fine)
    - USB interface cable (you probably lost that, but fortunately it's easily replaced and it's a standard cable you could pick up most anywhere.  Just make sure the USB cable has the USB "mini" connector on the camera side AND that (very important) the cable is not a "charging" cable.  These cables are often used for charging mobile phones and those cables typically don't wire the data pins... just the power pins.  The camera needs a cable with "data" pins.
    - Digital Solutions Disk (downloadable at Canon website - no loss there.  In fact the download is probably more current than the disk.)
    - Instruction manual (also downloadable)
    - Warranty card (but you can register the camera online and do not need the physical warranty card.)

  • IChat webcam for G3?

    Happy New Year all,
Just wondering if anyone uses their G3 iMac for iChat with a webcam? I was thinking of trying an iSight camera, but since Apple only build these into new Macs and Amazon advertise the old cameras at £600 a pop (!!! gold dust!!!) I haven't a clue what to do. Any other firewire cameras used or success with USB cameras on USB1.1???
As usual, many thanks in advance for any experiences shared…

    Hello Simon
For Firewire alternatives to external iSight, take a look at Unibrain, iSweet, Fire-i, or others that claim compatibility with your version of Mac OS X and the apps you want to use with your webcam. Remember to check for microphone capability if you need that.

  • LR to PS & back consumes home drive space; stop it

I notice when I do a lot of back & forth LR4 - PSCS6, my start up drive is getting overly used for something to the point of choke.
I dont want this.  I have directed all activities to external scratch drives, but something is chewing up my space in this case, to the tune of about 6-9 GB.
Well, that's all the space left on my SSD, and I dont want to buy more ssd's cuz of this; my ssd works great until this happens.
    Anyone?
    Thanks

I am not sure what you mean by "my start up drive is getting overly used".
Do you mean that your drive gets more and more full, or do you mean that your drive is very busy, i.e. doing lots of read-and-write cycles?
If the former is true, see Jeff Schewe's comment.
If the latter is true, you might have too much going on one-and-the same drive. You say "I have directed all activities to external scratch drives." But where is the Lr catalog? Lr constantly writes to and reads from the catalog. When you work in the Develop Module with each new step the whole data set is reloaded. Then there is activity for the Lr cache.
It therefore helps to divide the Lr tasks to different drives.
This is what I wrote in an earlier post:
In my experience sharing the workload between several drives will give a significant performance boost.
Naturally, faster hard drives (10K conventional or SSD) will speed up performance in any configuration. But as long as prices for 400 - 500 GB SSDs are relatively high and their life expectancy is somewhat iffy, it might be worthwhile considering the concept of sharing the work between several drives.
    Here's my system: I have 3 internal hard drives (7200 RPM, 500 GB each), named C, D, E.
On C there is the OS and Lr.
D is dedicated only for paging file (I'm on Windows), Lr cache, Photoshop scratch disk.
    E contains the Lr catalog.
Images are on external hard drives.
This setup avoids read- / write competition between OS paging file, Lr cache, Lr catalog, and image files and provides good performance in Lr.
In my opinion, the slow performance of Lr that some people complain about, might be due to
    a) cache too small (I have set mine at 75 GB, Adobe recommends 25 GB, but the Lr default is 1 GB);
    b) read-/write competition due to the fact that images, catalog, and Lr cache are on one hard drive. Keep in mind that Lr constantly reads from and writes to the catalog. If the images, the Lr cache and OS (with paging file) and Lr itself are all on one drive, the read-/ write cycles for this drive pile up and slow Lr down.
Certainly, a SSD has much faster read- / write times, so it will alleviate the problem of read- / write competition. But as long as they are expensive and have - maybe(?) - short life times, it might be worthwhile to install at least 2 - but better 3 - conventional hard drives and so that the workload can be shared between them.
See also her what Adobe says about improving performance of Lr: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/optimize-performance-lightroom.html#main_Render_1_1_pr eviews_intentionally
