Cthelper.exe fails on resume from stand

I'm not too sure if this is a know error, but I couldn't find any other instances of it on this forum: Every time (and only when) my computer resumes from stand by, I get the standard Windows XP error message saying cthelper.exe has failed and asks whether to send a report to Microsoft or not. I don't know if they even bother looking into the problem if it's not one of their programs, or if they would pass it on to Creative. I just wish Creative could actually write some code that doesn't have bugs. Anyways, If anyone has encountered the same problem, let me know if there is a fix.

sister have same trouble, vertical lines after resuming. had this problem on 4.21 after flashing to 5.11 2 weeks phone worked ok, now again, but not so often than before. want to know is this hardware bug or software? i had 6120c before it was stolen and i never have such bug. for sister phone it was bought after 6 or 7 months after mine, so maybe new set has malfunction. phone made in hungary. if nokia specialists read this board please answer: do i need to go at service point to repair the phone or just wait for new firmware? warranty period is 12 month and left ab 8. and how i can reproduce problem for service specialist to show him what is the trouble. i know that care point will not use long time sister phone to trouble will appear. they will only reflash the phone (have expirience with 1100)

  • X301 - Fail to resume from hibernation

    Hello,
this failure to resume from hibernation mode is actually the only problem I have encountered so far but it does actually annoy me. The BIOS-Update or this (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70477.html) update did not help either.
Do you need any more specifications?
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your effort!

I have the same problem too. Almost the system fails to resume from sleep mode everytime. I changed my power setting, when I close lid, it will go to hibenation mode, but the situation does not become much better. It is really annoying. I lost my current session, if I forget to shut down my system, before I close the lid.
This problem did not happen so frequently, until I updated the audio driver and turbo memory driver on aug. 30. The dear Thinkpad team, could you take a deeper investigation and make a solution for us?
In windows event logger, I find the following error message:
Description: The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition.
    Source: Kernel Power
    Level: Critical
If you need further information, I will be cooperated.

    Hi,
could it be possible that you have Software installed, that doesnt support the standby function?
Often Programs like Firewalls or AntiVirus Programs are the reason.

  • Ipad air - starts only "Voice over" after resume from stand by

    Hi
today, in the morning, i used as always my ipad air (ios 7.01) for about 2 hours (i have it from about 1 month).
I saw only some email (no app installation, no IOS upgrade, nothing else)
Then i put it in stand by mode (by pushing on/off button).
When, in the afternoon, i resume it from stand by (pushing home button) , appears only the white page of "Voice over" and No other thing is possible to do.
I restarted it many times (on/off button + home button pressed for 10-15 seconds until apple icon appears) but after the startup only "Voice over" appears.
Only "Voice Over" is possible to use.................like the first time 1 month ago, when i started up it ad i have configured it for the first time.
It seems that the ipad was reset.
    How is possible ?
It could be a IOS failure problem ?
or It's possible that someone has tried to unlock the ipad by pressing the wrong pin code and the ipad now is blocked (No one message that says "ipad blocked" or similar appears.........only "voice over" starts)????.
Please, someone can help me to understand what happened, in order to know what to do ?
How can i try to recover all the data in the ipad ?
    Thanks a lot for all
    Mario

I confirm that Only the white "setup" page starts  (where is wrote "Hello > slide to set up").
The ipad seems that was resetted.
    How is possible ?
It could be a IOS failure problem ?
or It's possible that someone has tried to unlock the ipad by pressing the wrong pin code and the ipad now is blocked (No one message that says "ipad blocked" or similar appears.........only  "initial setup"  starts)????.
I read in a manual of IOS 7 that is possible that the device is resetted after 10 times with wrong pin but after 5-6 times should appear a message with "ipad blocked for n° minutes" or a similar message.
No message appear....only the white page of  the setup  appears.
Please, someone can help me to understand what happened, in order to know what to do ?

  • Lenovo N500 and Win7 x64: fails to resume from sleep or hibernate

    Hello!
First of all, sorry for my bad english. I have bought an N500 laptop on the previous week. I'm using Windows 7 x64 on my desktop PC for months without any problem, so i thought i give it a try on my new notebook to. I choosed the x64 edition because my notebook has 4GB of memory plus the 256MB dedicated memory of the GeForce IGP. The installation went fine, it detected all the hardware in the laptop (except the memory card reader, but i found out that the Vista driver works fine with it). My only problem is, that if i try to hibernate the machine, or put the notebook into sleep state, most of the times it doesn't wake up from it, just simply reboots. If i resume from hibernate it provides me the option to delete the restoration data and do a clean boot. It's very annoying because defaultly if i close the lid or just simple leave the machine for a while, it goes to sleep automatically (i turned it off for now of course, but i like to use). It does it even after a fresh install, if i didn't install anything by hand. Windows Update offers me prelease GeForce drivers, but if i install those the problem still remains. As is see there isn't any Windows 7 drivers for this laptop, just Thinkpad series have Beta drivers for this OS. Or just i didn't find them on the site? I will try to install Windows 7 x86 this afternoon to check it's the 64bit OS which makes the problem or not.
Can somebody suggest me something to solve this problem?

I have the same problem here. lenovo N500 Windows 7 7100 64bit. Have Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family, That recently got official driver from intel (I dont think that's the problem anyway).
    Everything work fine with 32bit.
Look around everywhere, no  Success yet

  • Resume from Sleep / Hibernate issues

    Hi all,
First time poster. I have a Helix and am running into a heap of resume from sleep (and hibernate) issues.
The sleep issues tend to happen overnight - I do not have this issue if I sleep the machine and then wake it up 5-10 minutes later (e.g. moving between meetings at work). However, when I attempt to wake the machine up in the morning, it fails to resume from sleep, and instead boots from scratch.
Typically, when the unit is in this state, the status led on the lid is rapidly blinking (which I believe means that it's trying to enter sleep) Since there is nothing in the Windows event log during the overnight period, I'm wondering whether it's trying to enter a deeper sleep mode and failing.
This happens every second day or so. Which is really frustrating as a tend to lose some work.
I tried enabling hibernate as a trial, to see if that would avoid the issue, but resuming from hibernate fails as well. At least I get a Windows event log entry for this (source: kernel-power. The unit fails to resume from hibernate with status 0xC000000D)
I have the September 10 BIOS update, and am running Windows 8.1 Enterprise (though I had the issue with Windows 8 as well).
Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this?
    Regards
    AC

Windows 8: In Windows 8, the default shutdown behavior puts the system into hybrid shutdown (S4) and all devices are put into D3. Remote wake from hybrid shutdown (S4) or classic shutdown (S5) is completely unsupported. In Windows 8, NICs are explicitly not armed for wake in both the classic shutdown (S5) and hybrid shutdown (S4) cases because users expect zero power consumption and battery drain in the shutdown state. This behavior removes the possibility of spurious wakes when explicit shutdown was requested. As a result, Wake-On-LAN is only ever supported from sleep (S3) or hibernate (S4) in Windows 8.
Note that in Windows 8, hybrid shutdown (S4) stops user sessions but the contents of kernel sessions are written to hard disk. This enables faster boot.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa373229(v=vs.85).aspx
    From the Helix User Guide:
•Slow blinking: The tablet is in sleep mode.
•Fast blinking: The tablet is entering hibernation mode or sleep mode.
That was my reason for clarifying if hybrid-sleep was enabled; since it's the default setting and you noted that the LED was blinking fast. Does the LED ever stop blinking fast?
There can/may be multiple log entries during a normal sleep operation,  because "the system uses the lowest-powered sleep state supported by all enabled wake-up devices." If one of those devices wakes the system (this does not mean power on) then the logs will report the devices and will likely return to a another level of sleep, but this does not mean full power loss or empty logs.
If the system has successfully entered sleep state, then you should see the following message in System Event logs.
    Event 42, Kernel - Power
    This system is entering sleep.
    Sleep Reason: Button or lid
When the system is successfully woke you will see a System Event Log similar to this:
    Event 1, Power - Troubleshooter
The system has returned from a low power state.
    Sleep time: 2013-10-08T01:42:25.XXXXXXXX
    Wake time: 2013-10-08T05:53:21.XXXXXXXX
However, there will be other events in the logs after sleep and prior to this wake period, such as hardware device issues(My helix has Bluetooth device warnings, nfc driver warnings and some other nondescript hardware errors), kernel messages (about boot manager, boot options, etc.).
Have you changed the behavior of the power button?
You also can program the power buttons so that by pressing the power button you can shutdown the tablet or put it into sleep or hibernation mode. To achieve this, you need to change your power plan settings. To access power plan settings, do the following:
From the desktop, tap the battery status icon in the Windows notification area.
    Tap More power options.
In the navigation panel, tap Choose what the power buttons do
Follow the onscreen instructions to configure settings.
Lastly, when you updated to Windows 8.1, did you format the whole C:\ (mSATA) drive?

  • Is it possible to detect change of date and/or resume from standby?

    Hallo you all,
in our current project we have a java remote application and a server application connected via GPRS.
Both client and server must have a system time sinchronized with a tolerance of maximum 15 minutes.
The problem has been solved simply making a datetime check during login: server sends it's current datetime
to client and then client make the time check. All right.
The problem is that after login the user (on client app) is able to change the system time and then... the sinchronization is lost!!
My first solution: I have a background thread that each 5 seconds make a time check: if in two consecutives checks
the difference is greater that 15 mins then I assume the the user has changed the system datetime and I raise a non recoverable exception
and the client aplication is closed.
Problem: if the system goes in stand by (laptop or hand held device) then at resume I have a time difference that can be greather than 15 mins.
Question: is there a way to understand if system wake up from stand by or if a system time has been changed?
In my tests the case of system date change and the case of sysm resume from stand by are identical from point of view value of Java current date.
I found no real to this question...
    Thanks in advance,
    Franco.

It sounds like you're trying to synchronize multiple system clocks.
Why not using an existing solution such as NTP for this?
It sounds as if your application is trying to do many things at once.

  • Random reboots when resuming from disk (aka hibernation)

    Hi,
I've noticed that since the Linux 3.17.1-1 upgrade, my laptop frequently fails to resume from disk : after I turn the system on, GRUB kicks in and the system immediately reboots itself (which leads to fsck checking the filesystem). The weird thing is that it seems to be a completely random behavior, as at least half of the time resuming from disk works as it always had.
Of course, the logs don't show anything about it as the failure occurs before the kernel is loaded. However, there's a couple of ACPI-related warnings that I wonder whether they're trying to tell me something:

I use the asus_wmi module in this system and, as it is an Intel chipset, I've proceeded to load the intel-ucode as the first initramfs as recommended. Tell me if you need further information.
    Thanks in advance!

OK, I've made a try by deleting all references to the intel-ucode initrd at /boot/grub/grub.cfg, so that the microcode update is not applied. Afterwards, I rebooted the system so that there is no trace of the microcode update left on the system and proceeded to do some normal usage of the laptop. Then, I've hibernated it, left it like that for a couple of hours and then, turned it on again. The process failed again without warning whatsoever and rebooted to a normal boot sequence.
Looking at all the suspend-to-RAM issues that people are also posting in these forums, I believe this is a bug in Linux 3.17, unrelated to the microcode thing.

  • Resume from suspend broken after upgrade

Hi, I'm having a hardware issue noone else seems to be having. I mean, I can't find any discussions or bug reports about it anywhere. :-(
    The specifics:
Resume from suspend broke after an upgrade. X starts, windows appear, and I can move the cursor around, but everything else is frozen. The only way out is to hit C-A-F1 to switch to the virtual console and restart X or reboot.
Please, any help will be greatly appreciated.
    I'm running:
    local/lib32-nouveau-dri 9.1.1-1
    extra/nouveau-dri 9.1.1-1
    extra/xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.7-1 (xorg-drivers xorg)

Thank you for your reply, pyther. I figured it was a kernel bug, too, but now I'm not so sure. Surprisingly, in Ubuntu 11.04 (which uses kernel 2.6.38), suspend works fine on my laptop. Figuring that perhaps this was due to an Ubuntu-specific patch, I tried booting the 2.6.38-8-generic kernel that ships with Ubuntu 11.04 on my Arch installation, but found that it was subject to the same issue described above, where the system fails to resume from suspend. I also tried disabling laptop-mode-tools, but to no avail.
Clearly, the problem is related somewhat to the kernel, as in my Arch installation, suspend works fine in 2.6.36, is somewhat problematic in 2.6.37, and is completely broken in 2.6.38. Yet I don't think it's entirely due to the kernel, as suspend works fine in Ubuntu 11.04, but is broken when I boot my Arch installation with Ubuntu's kernel. Performing a bit bisect to determine the bad commit sounds like it might help, but given that suspend functionality seems to have gotten progressively worse for me since 2.6.36, I'm not sure how I would go about locating a specific commit that is the source of my issues. Is there anything else I might try?

  • W520: problem of resume from S3

    Hi fork,
    background: W520, two ssd (one bay replacing optical), 16G + 4G = 20G, VT enabled, +nox2apic, no de, xmonad/laptop-mode/smapi/thinckpad_acpi
Shortly, it often fails to resume from sleep, flashing lights and stuck in infinite loop.
    (like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48Mi4tqUaZc)
    - don't get any suspicious hash of device drivers with pm_trace enabled kernel (suspend works fine always)
    - 8/10 happens when I put it into sleeve (interesting)
    - testing with graphic cards:
       discrete, integrated: nvidia/intel/nouveou are same
bumblee+nouveou/nvidia: less likely happens (1/10), but happens
       * bumblee works out of box, but I'd like to use single X:0, instead of separete X:8.
       * xrandr doesn't support multiple gpu to bind single X:0
       * xinerama work! but not support on-the-fly detection, which is not an option.
I am comfortable with dealing with kernel sources, or doing some reverse-engineering, but I can't find more clues to make it work .. is there anybody uses W520?

One might be interested in bumblebee experiments:
    - bumblebee/nouveau performs 1/3 fps compared to bumblebee/nvidia
    - bumblebee/nvidia gives >1h extra battery life
    - integrated (i915) only option gives ~10h battery life

  • X220 resume from sleep and boot issues

This is driving me crazy! I have an X220 with Windows 8 and UEFI boot installed.
It all started when I first installed Windows 8 a few months ago which required me to update my BIOS to the latest version. The installation process often got stuck when booting from the Installation CD (the round circle stopped spinning, the display was at full brightness). Eventually I managed to boot into the Installer (when the boot logo doesn't get stuck, the display is then dimmed to minimum).
I was quite happy to have a superfast lightweight OS which booted in an instant.. When suddenly it started to get stuck when booting (same issue with the boot logo not spinning anymore). This happens quite randomly, but I often manage to boot (maybe 2-3 times a week, I don't boot often though..). Now, the booting hangs are less of an issue for me but more often that that it fails to resume from sleep. The LEDs flash and then it instantly drops to sleep mode again (well at least the sleep/moon LED is active). This happens quite often as I sleep/resume up to 5-10 times a day (changing lecture rooms, meeting rooms, save battery when the lectures are boring, ...)
Now after researching and spending hours in debugging this issue, it seems that I'm not the only one having this (or a similar) issue, but often without any definitive solution being specified.
This is what I have already tried:
    * Upgrade BIOS and SSD firmware to latest
    * Install/update latest drivers
    * Mess around with BIOS options
    ** UEFI/Legacy First options
    ** Intel Virtualization/vt-d
    ** Others..
I know based on other threads that I'm not the only one experiencing exactly these issues. Has anyone managed to fix this?
    Thank's in advance
    Fabio Scala

I had a similar issue, as soon as a described even a little bit of it to warrenty support they sent someone to swap the board
It seems thats the only fix, its been fine since

  • Trying to reinstall CS5.5 Master Collection from DVD media on Windows 7 64 bit - setup.exe fails due to msxml3.dll error PDApp message [FATAL] PIM - Failed to Create XML instance : DOMDocument40 ADXML::initWithXMLPath Error:80040154

If anyone is able to solve this they are a genius (or I am doing something very stupid!)
I am trying to reinstall CS5.5 Master Collection from DVD media on Windows 7 64 bit PC but setup.exe fails due to a msxml3.dll error.
Following a big bundle of recent Windows 7 updates, I started getting 'bad image' msxml3.dll error messages when opening any CS5.5 master collection program (Eg Premiere / Photoshop / Illustrator / Dreamweaver). Following advice on some threads here I tried uninstalling and then using the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool to clean up install, then reinstalling from my original DVD media.
Whenever I try using run setup.exe from installtion disc 1 the installing fails due to 'Missing files'. I have also tried dowloading trial versions and runing setup.exe fro mthe downloaded files but i still get the same message.
I have searched the forum and others have experienced this error but none of the solutions I have found seem to be working for me - as many seem to relate to download installations whereas I am installing from original DVD media (which worked fine before on the same PC)
These are the FATAL messages from the PDApp log
    12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] PIM - Failed to Create XML instance : DOMDocument40 ADXML::initWithXMLPath Error:80040154
12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] Setup - Could not initialize ADXML object
12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] Setup - Unable to initialize. Error parsing setup.xml file
The PDApp troubleshooting seems to indicate that this is caused by error in downloads but I am getting it with both original media DVD and downloads.
I have also tried using my logon (which has admin privileges) and under our main admin account - and I get the same errors.
Is a clean install of Windows 7 + CS5.5 my only option?
Any help / info / advice / solutions very much appreciated! I have spent the last 2 days trying to sort this out and seem to be getting nowhere.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply kglad - much appreciated.
I have already tried that option (along with downloading files) as it was one of the solutions mentioned on other threads, but that also failed.
    Any other ideas?

  • Calling an rss script with rs.exe fails to result in a report pdf from VB6 w/ ShellEx.

    Sql 2008 R2
Calling an rss script with rs.exe fails to result in a report pdf from VB6 w/ ShellEx.
If I call rs.exe with the various parameters from the command prompt I  have success(other than rs.exe using the temp folder, which is a different issue).  But when I try to execute the same process from a Visual Basic 6.0 application utilizing
the ShellEx api call, the report creation and output to PDF format do not occur.   There is no error raised.
Yes, I wish I could use a newer dev tool but that isn't an option right now. I think this should work.  Can ya'll tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    Hello Jim,
The path for rs.exe includes spaces, you should set it in hyphen, as you already did for file "RunOrdReports.rss" in variable "sArgs2

  • Explorer.exe consuming 100% CPU after resuming from hibernation

    Hello,
For the last months, I repeatedly have the problem that sometimes (every 2nd or 3rd time) after resuming from hibernation, in a few cases also after disconnecting from the Internet, one or more instances of explorer.exe are consuming 100% CPU, but never
    the shell instance.
I tried figuring out what it was doing, but I was unsuccessful so far.

I you have any clue what might be going, I would be very happy to hear it. It's really annoying, as I have to kill explorer.exe and thereby close all my folder windows when this happens.
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    David Trapp

    Hello,
thanks for having a look. However, I already ran SFC before posting on this forum (as part of my own investigation) and it came back clean. RescueTime (a time tracking tool) is probably not the culprit because it happened also several times in the past without
RescueTime being running (that was because I had accidentally removed it from autorun at that time).
Unfortunately, I can't follow your "invalid date" explanation. I don't think an "invalid date" is anywhere involved; in fact, the method in question is called "_TreeInvalidateItemInfo" and not "_TreeInvalidDateItemInfo"
(note that there is only one "d"), so I assume its job is just to invalidate (and in turn, refresh) the cached information about nodes in the left pane's folder tree of the explorer window(s) - since the folder tree is the only NamespaceTreeControl
(whose corresponding class name is CNscTree) in explorer folder view windows. As I see it, something is causing explorer to repeatedly refresh the folder tree data, but I am stuck at finding out what exactly.
    Best regards,
    David Trapp
EDIT: Disassembling ExplorerFrame!CNscTree::_TreeInvalidateItemInfo confirms that, because it seems to call TreeView_SetItem for a tree node and its parent (possibly with all fields set to *_CALLBACK), and CNscTree::_UpdateItemDisplayInfo
    for the parent node.
EDIT2: I'd love to dig more into the trace, however I am hitting a wall at function names/addresses. Everywhere where I would expect a function name/address (such as the "by stack" views), I only see question marks instead. What
    could be the reason?
