CTM 8.0 Solaris 10 Sparc-64 Installation Problems

I am installing CTM 8.0 on a Solaris 10, Sparc 64 Sun Server/Workstation. I am having a problem installing the CTM, I installed Oracle 9i with no problems(that I know of) with patch 9.2.0.8. When I go to start the ctmsetup.sh it checks for the latest version of JRE, which is fine, however it says that I don't have the Solaris patches for JRE and it lists them. Well the patches I have are more up to date then those listed so when I tried to install the patches they listed it said that they were obsoleted by what I have already. Secondly it gives the message "Starting Cisco CTM Server Installation using Install Anywhere" but then the next line says "You pressed Cancel/Upgrade/Install" when I hadn't pressed anything, and it just stays there. Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi, how you setup oracle 9.2.0.8 patch?? I tried
cd /oraclesw9i/Disk1
./runInstaller -silent -responseFile /oraclesw9i/patchset_64bit_9208.rsp but, with key -silent i have an error: cannot communicate with X server, on my WinXP workstation?
echo $DISPLAY > myws:0.0

  • Solaris 10 x86 installation problem on ProLiant DL380..

I'm trying to put Sol10 b72 on a dual-proc ProLiant DL380 here, with the Compaq 5i array controller.
I have the Solaris 9 drivers from HP; they seem to work just fine for the installation.
The problem comes at the end of the first disc.
    Sidebar:
For one thing (and this drove me NUTS until I got lucky and caught it during a reboot), at the end of the install, on the console, it asks for the driver diskettes..again.
The problem is, it doesn't say this ANYWHERE else, only on the console..and if you're doing the installation in the X desktop, you just never know it. It doesn't write this to the xconsole window. I tried installing a good 5-6 times before, instead of hitting the power button out of frustration after the install just hung again, I actually opened up a terminal and typed 'reboot'..and caught the "Please insert the diskette and press Enter" as it killed X. If anyone at Sun is reading this..you may want to fix this, before someone gets very frustrated that their installations never seem to finish...
    End Sidebar.
So...I'm doing the console text install (otherwise you'll never see the message to insert the driver diskettes for the Broadcom NIC and the Compaq array), and sure enough, at the end of the install, it asks for the diskette. I pop in the diskette it's specifically asking for (the Compaq array diskette in this instance), and hit enter. It chugs for a second and then says it can't find the driver on the diskette.
Which is incorrect, because if it haden't found it on the diskette during the device configuration assistant phase during bootup, it wouldn't have even been able to install Solaris.
So..what's up? Anyone have any ideas why Solaris finds it one time but can't find it later? Is this a bug or problem in the installation script?
    Thanks,
    Greg

problem 1 is that it's looking for ../../s0.. Which I
    managed to
fake out by creating the dir in the same mount
    point.
Problem 2 is that it can't find .tmp_proto, which I
    must
concur with. I can't find that on any of the b72 cd
    images.
So, the setup_install_server fails. This seems to be the problem when you try to setup an install
server on a Solaris SPARC system for Solaris x86 clients, using
the Solaris 9 or Solaris 10/Express CD media.
There's a Solaris x86 UFS filesystem on slice 0 on the CD media,
and it's supposed to be mounted on the "s0" mount point,
    otherwise setup_install_server won't work. On a Solaris x86 box,
vold mounts it automatically for you: /cdrom/cdrom0/s2 is the
mount point for the platform independant ISO9660 part of the CD
media, /cdrom/cdrom0/s0 is the UFS root filesystem.
    Problem is that Solaris SPARC:
    - does not understand Solaris x86 disk labels
    - does not allow mounting x86 UFS filesystems
    (and vice versa).
AFAIK, Solaris 9 DVD media does not have this problem. I
guess the same will be true when Solaris 10 DVD media is
available in a few months. On the DVD media there's enough
free space to include an extra copy of the files in the ISO9660
    filesystem.

  • Solaris 8 (Intel) Installation problems

I have not been successful to install Solaris 8 (Intel version).I am
installing from the (Install CD) and I get to the Solaris Boot screen that
    says:
Select one of the identified devices to boot the Solaris Kernel and
choose F2 to continue. Solaris identifies 2 IDE Disk Drives (on Primary Controller),
a third IDE HDD (Secondary master) and the CD ROM as a slave on the Secondary
Controller. When I choose the CD ROM as the Boot disk, the system hangs
    forever!. Any suggestions?
P.S: The installation CD contains the following:
    image = 550MB
    (.VOLUME) : 47 bytes
    ADD_INSTALL_CLIENT: 54.5KB
    BOOT: 0 bytes
    COPYRIGHT: 5.3KB
    MODIFY_INSTALL_SERVER = 3.37KB
The total of these files is : 93KB
Dose this seem correct, having in mind that the image file is 550MB
    Thanks,
    Kamel Elchazli

At the "(b)oot or (i)nterpreter" prompt, type:
    b kadb -v
This loads the Solaris kernel under kernel debugger (kadb) control.
Apparently your system crashes with a kernel panic, and when kadb
is loaded, kadb will catch the kernel panic error and drop you into the
debugger so that you can read the panic messages.
The "-v" option enables verbose kernel messages, which might be
    useful to diagnose the problem.

    hi,
Make sure that your network uses DNS naming.
This error occurs when a machine is not correctly configured to use DNS naming. The default fully qualified host and domain name presented during installation is not correct.
To successfully install, you need to provide a fully qualified domain name that consists of a local host name along with its domain name.
for example yoursystem is a host name and yourdomain.com is a fully qualified domain name.

  • Solaris 10 U4 Installation problems

    Good Afternoon.
I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I've been having with Solaris 10. Im currently trying to install Solaris 10 U4 onto a HP Proliant DL320 G5. The problem is Im booting off the 1st installation CD and choosing Solaris Interactve install. Im then prompted to complete the system indentfication which i do. It starts the configuring section and freezes at 1%. The entire system hangs.
Has anyone else had these problems installing Solaris U4 on a DL320?
    Kind Regards
    Anthony

Seems the HP Proliant DL320 G5 is not supported by any verson of Solaris 9 or 10, Had a chat with HP and that seems to be the case.
I will need to purchase another SATA Controller for my Hard drives (something cheap and cheerful) that does support Solaris 10 and install it into the DL320 and hope it installs that way.
Just thought id give anyone that was looking at my post an update
    Cheers

  • Solaris jan 08 installation problem

    Hi friends,
I tried to install Solaris jan 08 version on my Dell Inspiron 1501 in external hard disk with help of DVD I got. Initially every thing went well. But it took a lot of time to install .It almost took more than 8-9 hours!!( I think it should be less than 4 hrs right??)
But all in vain!!? After I got GRUB menu When I entered Solaris Express Developer edition option.I got a message related to "License..." and thats it... it stopped right there... and no progress and no checking of devices..
I waited for more than 10 min...no use...
Before that I was able to install Solaris May 07 version successfully on my harddisk with the help of innotek virtual box.But I did not try this version on my external hard disk though.
Can any body have an experience similar to this...??
    Thank You
    Rupesh

This sounds like it could be that the DVD media is bad. It could take such a long time if it has to try to reread data on the DVD. If you try to install again, bring up a console window during the install and see if read errors pop up. You can also check the install logs before you reboot to see that everything installed successfully. The hang you report at boot-up could be due to a failure to properly install due to read errors.
Oh, and also do a visual inspection of the DVD. Any scratches or irregularities?

  • Solaris 8 IA installation problem.

    Hello !
    I've the following computer :
    Athlon 1Ghz (200MHz fsb)
    1GB RAM,
Ati Rage 128 PRO (16MB ram) AGP
Tekram DC390U2W (sym 53C895 chip) SCSI card
IBM 4.5 Gb FW scsi disk (will be used for install)
On this computer I boot the Solaris 8 IA install CD 7/01 hardware revi.
Everything works fine, all my hardware is correctly detected, the miniroot system is copied to the harddisk.
When the system reboots, The configuration assistant shows me my video card , my screen, mouse and keyboard (I've to change from USASCII to French...).
When I ask for a test, the system shows soe activity on the hard disk, which comes back regularly, but nothing graphical happens, and I've no way to regain control. The only solution is to reset the computer.
Upon reset, the disk had become un bootable, even if the partitions still exists.
Any help/info will be greatly appreciated !

That doesn't work because there's no solaris driver
for the promise ide controller (these promise ide
controllers are not 100% pci-ide compliant and need
special driver support). Ask promise for such a
    solaris driver.
Most mainboards come with a PCI-IDE compliant
controller on the mainboard's chipset. Connect the
hard disk drive to that controller and solaris can
    use the disk drive.

    Gavin,
This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris
patches which were distributed at about the same time. However, you say
you're using 4.10.903, and as far as I know the problem should be fixed
    in that version.
You could try the workaround described in
    http://www.tarantella.com/documentation/sgd/ee/4.0/install.html - search
for "tta_pkgadd" on that page and follow the instructions given there.

  • CF9 w/ Solaris 10 (Sparc, 64-bit): Problems with mod_jrun22.so

    Hi
We're running a Solaris (Sparc) box and installed Apache 2.2.16 and ColdFusion9 on our system. When starting ColdFusion the first time, the shell script "apache_connector.sh" installs the mod_jrun22.so (must be the successor of mod_coldfusion.so) and adds the required section in the httpd.conf file just fine. (well, after fixing the script... ^^)
The problem arises when starting Apache next time:
httpd: Syntax error on line 414 of /usr/local/httpd-2.2.16/conf/httpd.conf:
    Cannot load /opt/coldfusion9/runtime/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun22.so into server:
ld.so.1: httpd: fatal: libgcc_s.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
Apparently, this module was compiled with gcc, which we didn't install on our Sun system.
Does anyone know whether there's a module available which doesn't depend on gcc libraries under Solaris?
So far we've compiled everything with Suns compiler Sun Studio 12.0. The reason behind this is that we're using CFX-tags and our shared library uses  C/C++ and embedded SQL for Oracle 11g (yes, we're old school ^^). And since Oracle 11g officially only supports Sun Studio 12.0 when using embedded SQL, we're trying to compile everything with this compiler.
Sure we could install gcc (or at least a runtime-component containing libgcc_s.so.1), but I'm wondering now whether we'll run into problems later when using our C++ library which was compiled with Sun Studio 12.0.
Could anyone shed some light on this?
    Thanks!
    Daniel

We have our EBS 12.0.6 on Sun Solaris SPARC 64 bit. There are few hp printer (hp laserjet p2015dn) configured with our application and they are working fine.
Now we have to add one more printer but ( hp laserjet p2015dn) is not available now.
So please suggest the hp laserjet printer available for Solaris 10 Sparc 64 bit.You already have the same type of printer configured and it is working properly, so I would say it is supported.
What is the difference between the two printers configuration?
Can you print from the OS to the new printer?
What do you mean by "not available now"?
    Thanks,

The Solaris*.bin file should have unpacked everything and installed all the JDK in a directory off of the directory where you ran the .bin file. Inside this subdirectory will be a bin subdirectory where the java executables, etc are installed.

At which step in cluster configuration, does this failure occur?

  • File encoding problem in solaris sparc

    hi there,
I wrote a simple program to create a text file that with the content of japanese character that same way I wrote in Windows JP Platform.
However, the encoding is different from what window, oracle(solaris sparc) does.
this is very interesting that we view from oracle and its workd fine from Oracle which run on the same machine(solaris Sparc) .
I believe I missed out some setting for the internationalization for JDK in solaris, but I'm not familiar with solaris. Hence, I would like to seek is there one of you came across this before? Please help.
    Here is the String.
    \u6771\u9999\u91CC\u5357\u753ATW|T|POP
Please note that 58-5-101 is double full width JP character.
The main problem is the "-" encoding for solaris. It changed to '?'
    My env are,
    -jdk1.3.1_03
    -Solaris Sparc LANG=ja
pls feel fre to ask for more information if you need further details.
    regards,
    elvis
    scjp

I don't fully understand what you're asking for, but I wonder if this might help : the default encoding of a Solaris machine is probably EUC (In Windows, this is SJIS). So you'll probably have to read the file using the EUC encoding. Have a look at InputStreamReader(InputStream in, String enc) where you can set the encoding of the input stream.
(Note that there is also a forum called 'Internationalization' at java.sun.com)

If any patch is required for solaris sparc 10. Thanks

Obviously Sun (excuse me, Oracle) does not intend to support the solaris-10/sparc/firefox-3.6 combination. Firefox 3.6 requires the NPAPI and/or NPRuntime interfaces to java, but oracle does not provide the new "libnpjp2.so" java plugin with the jre-6u18-sparc-solaris java download.
A search at www.oracle.com does not turn up any support announcement about this. You have to learn it the hard way. :(
If you want to continue to use sparc-solaris, downgrade to firefox-3.5 so you can use the old libjavaplugin_oji.so module. Otherwise run Linux or Mac OS X to stay in the unix camp.

  • Solaris 10 x86 Installation on Toshiba Tecra M1

After a lot of trial and error, most of my own creation, I have successfully gotten Solaris 10 installed on my laptop!
My question relates to SMF and creating a "non-networked" milestone. Mainly, umm, what should I leave out from the "all" level? Or more importantly, what should I add to the "multi-user-server" milestone to enable X?
Some items that may help others doing S10 x86 installs:
    1) Tecra M1 needed "legacy floppy driver" support DISABLED in the Bios.
    2) Tecra M1 installation was done in text mode (option 4) and after installation ran /usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig with these settings -
    mouse=auto
    kbd=us, 104 key
    monitor=1280x1024@70hz
vert sync was option "1" (forgot the values)
    video card=27 (trident)
    Works great!
    3) Onboard gigabit NIC was found perfectly.
    4) Sound works great
    5) Touchpad or USB mouse work fine.
    6) Disk setup issues -
I had windows XP on the whole 40 gig disk. Purchased "Partition Commander" and resized XP down to 1/2 the disk. However it took the beginning of the disk (cylinder 1-20000). Solaris 10 would install but would lock up on subsequent reboots. Moving XP to the upper cylinder range fixed this issue (and giving Solaris cylinders 1-X.)
    7) Turn off Partition Commander before doing your solaris installation.
I've now installed S10 on dell, toshiba, HP and Sun computers. Main issues have been with peripheral ID and driver installations but other than Wireless Drivers, nothing has failed! Way to go SUN!!
    D

problem 1 is that it's looking for ../../s0.. Which I
    managed to
fake out by creating the dir in the same mount
On the DVD media there's enough
free space to include an extra copy of the files in the ISO9660
    filesystem.
