CTM planning related conceptual questions
In an attempt to understand the CTM functionality for master planning I have the following questions
1.In real implementation where is the safety stock planning done by the standard methods and the where are the service levels considered.
2.when is the lot for lot/fixed lot/reorder point and by periods?
3.when is the planning mode strategy like the replan all orders or orders with fix pegging used. is it based on the replenishment lead times of the products?
4.when is the delete only the un firmed orders used?
I understand that it is industry specific but an explanation with reference to the industry would be helpful. idea is to understand the business logic behind this configuration.
typically service level based Safety Stock planning would be used in situations where replenishment leadtimes are variables. there could be SLAs with the supplier as well. standard Safety stock planning would be used under relatively static conditions of leadtimes. One would use days' of cover in situation where net requirements could be varying a lot with time. One could also use quantity based static Safety stock quantity, in situations where the product has high volume net requirements. One could use time-phased quantity safety stock/days' of supply where conditions are dynamic throughout the year in terms of demand and supply.
Regenerative planning is to do planning from scratch by getting rid of all unconfirmed and confirmed planned orders/requisitions. Non regenrative planning would be doing incremental supply planning based on increased/decreased demand.
Lot for lot will be used when the planned order quantities do not have any size restrictions. so they may go from a certain min lot size to a max lot size. So there is just one planned order to meet the demand. In fixed lot size, there are possibilities of multiple planned orders of same size to meet the demand. Reorder point method will mean that planned orders get created when stock and scheduled receipts fall short of an expected level of projected stock.

Where to maintain planning related / process related minimum interval
Dear Sir,
To have buffer / leeway in planning , SAP has provided the provision for maintaing of the following information :
Planning related minimum interval
Planning related minimum offset
Process related minimum Interval
We do not know where this information can be maintained in the SAP System .
We request SAP experts to kindly guide us about maintaining of the above information into the SAP system .
With Thanks and Regards
Sonia agarwalSonia,
These terms are used within APO Detailed Scheduling (part of PP/DS) module. They can be found in certain master data (PPMs and PDS's) and they are used in various scheduling tasks: heuristics, DS planning board, optimizer.
Online help about production order time intervals in scheduling can be found at
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm70/helpdata/EN/5f/e9693728e52456e10000009b38f889/frameset.htm
and related pages.
It is quite a daunting task to maintain data that meets a set of business requirements unless you have extensive knowledge of PP/DS. Since you have never done this before, I strongly recommend that you engage an experienced PP/DS resource to assist you in this area. You can spend weeks and weeks using trial and error methods in varying the many interrelated parameters that will have an impact on scheduling. Then, when the client asks you to 'tweak' the results, more weeks.
If you feel compelled to attempt this on your own anyway, then I also suggest that you will get more answers if you post such questions in one of the SCM/APO forums. I suggest that you first read the above mentioned help, including all the subordinate pages and the contained links, before you ask more detailed questions.
Best Regards & Good Luck,

CTM planning generates excess stock
Hello experts ,
We are using CTM planning and we have given build up safety stock and the lot sizing procedure in product master is by period (W). Now CTM planning is generating excess stock for this material . Why is it ?? Can anyone help pleaseIt is not clear in your Q whether the excess stock created while running CTM is lesser or greater in magnitude than the Lot Size. I would not be too surprised if the excess stock is lesser than Lot Size. Not that lot sizing restrictions only apply on supply side and hence there could be a situation where supplies are created in excess.
One other situation where this can happen is when there are unpegged fixed supply orders in the system. In that scenario the order may not be sensed as a supply order by CTM. You can verify that by looking at Pegging Overview related transaction in PPDS. Or do a supply simulation in CTM profile. It can clearly let you know the supply orders considered.
Excess stock can also be generated if there are Quantity Based Safety Stock requirements in the system.
To isolate the problem, I would also try out scenarios with standard lot size instead of periodic just to make sure that there is nothing funny happening with the latter setting. -
Exclusion of Sales Orders from CTM Planning
Gurus,
Without customizing, is there a way to exclude selective sales orders, say by certain delivery priority number, from CTM planning? Is there any standard configuration setting that SAP APO offers for this?
I want to exclude the SOs with delivery priority no. X from being identified and planned by CTM.
Appreciate a quick response on this.
Thanks,
ChandraHi Chandra,
1) If the sales orders that you want exclude are falling under certain
fixed time period, then you can restrict selecting those orders
using transaction /SAPAPO/CTMORDSEL - Order Selection
and in the selection tab, you can filter those under radio
button "fixed time period" and select the ATP categories
2) In material master, if you provide very low priority and also if
you maintain time based priority in SNP 2 tab, till that period with
that low priority, the system will consider that item for lowest
priority during planning

KhadarHi Khadar,
1) The information you have provided is the CTM optimiser log.
Run the job in background and in sm37 and click on job log &
analyse the exact error happened. In case if you are not able
to do, please provide the error log.
2) Check the livecache is stable in its operations when the job
runs (check with basis team)
3) Run consistency check for master data before CTM run
4) Check for any struck queues and clear those and rerun
5) If you feel more inconsistencies in system, run livecache
consistency and rerun CTM run

Planning file entry question MD21
I understand that if i change a material mrp views or planning related master data then automatically i see netch indicator will be set in MD21.
in what cases does i see indicator set for reset proposals and bom explosion? in other words if i want to see reset prop and bom explosion indicators set in md21, what should i do?
I tried to read SAP help and it says
u2013 If you set the Reset indicator then planning dates which may be available (order proposals) are not reactivated even if the dates and quantities suit the planning situation. The system always creates new order proposals.
u2013 If you set the BOM explosion indicator, then available planned orders are taken over but the BOM is re-exploded.
But I am still confused.Reset Prop
u2022 Changes to the lot size-independent in-house production time (MRP 2)
u2022 Change to the planned delivery time
u2022 Change to the scheduling margin key
u2022 Change to the MRP controller
Explode Bom
u2022 Changes to material BOMs, sales order BOMs and phantom assemblies
u2022 Changes to the dependency that is assigned in the BOM

u2022 Changes to or new key assignments of BOM explosion number
Do you feel clear enough? -
Consolidation of Planned orders after CTM planning run
Hi everyone,
We use CTM planning engine and create planned orders for the unfulfilled demand. Since Demand is coming from various locations multiple planned orders are created at the supply location. But the requirement is that all these planned orders need to be consolidated to 1 planned order.
How can we acheive this without disturbing the existing pegging relationships?
For example:
Current scenario:
3 planned orders at location X based on the demand from locations A, B and C. Then a pegging relationship exists (Purchase Requistions) between A and X; B and X; C and X.
Requirement:
Above 3 planned orders need to be consolidated to 1 Planned order and still the pegging relationship to supply the demand locations should exist.
Please let me know if anyone has similar business scenario and has working solution approach
ThanksHi,
You can increase the lot size to club your demand requirements. You can also try using period type lotsize to club daily, weekly, monthly requirements.

Good afternoon:
We are currenlty moving into SOA and we'd like to use Netweaver as our ESB but I have a conceptual question right now:
- If my applications consume the web services provided or registered in the Services Registry, will I be using the Process Integrator implicitly??
We want to register web services and use the web services registered in the Services Registry of Netweaver, but licensing for the PI es really expensive...
Thanks for any hints...> If my applications consume the web services provided or registered in the Services Registry, will I be using the Process Integrator implicitly??
Yes, To consume or host webservice we can use PI middleware. PI supports also service registry to register your webservice for others.
>> We want to register web services and use the web services registered in the Services Registry of Netweaver, but licensing for the PI es really expensive...
PI 7.3 has plenty of cool features and it is claimed as SOA Middleware. Comparitively PI licensing cost is better than competitors too. -
CTM planning for process industry
Hi,
We are taking CTM planning run in a process industry scenario where we are having continuous processing. But when we do CTM planning CTM creates PP/DS planned order to meet the delivery date of orders and for some orders their are unscheduled gaps between operation due to non availability of next resource.
Is it possible to create orders in CTM without any unscheduled gaps between the operations as is the case in case of orders created using PP/DS?
Regards,
Sanjog MishrikotkarHi kiran Ghule,
With the functions of the Quality Management (QM) module, you can implement it.
The QM application component supports tasks associated with quality planning, quality inspection and quality control. In addition, it controls the creation of quality certificates you can do this

Hello,
I tried to execute CTM planning run, it prompts me with this error message.
"Check the settings in SAP APO Customizing for the optimization server."
I already assigned "CM01" as Optimization Server Id in CTM Profile, but it still prompts the error message.
Does anyone encountered this error ?
Thanks in advance.
D'GeePlease go through Note 886103 - System Landscape Copy for SAP SCM and make sure you did right settings .

CTM planning in Planning segment
Hi all,
Is it possible to do multi-level CTM planning in the planning segment? 2nd level products in BOM are make2stock.
Appreciate your reply
Mad
Edited by: MadhuNambu on Apr 29, 2011 1:27 AMHi,
Check whether the supply category defined is included in the search strategy..
If this is not defined then the system cannot consume the surplus receipts created during CTM planning.
Thanks,

Planning Level Root Question (Periodid Vs Monthly)
Hello,
I have a question related with planning level configuration.
In the standard SAP Planning area
SAP2 - All the planning levels have been defined monthly attribute as the root for time
SAP4 - All the planning levels have been defined periodid attribute as the root for time
What is the difference between both type of configuration. (Selecting Monthly / period id as the root, what difference it creates and how it affects other areas)
I was testing consensus demand key figure in SOP 3.0 and I am unable to edit the key figure value in my planning area (KF value change in Excel) which is a copy of SAP4 planning area. Initial response from SAP OSS is to modify the planning level and use monthly instead of Periodid (But I have just copied the standard SAP4 planning area).
Uploading the key figure using KF template works fine but issues comes only when I tried to change the value in Excel or try to input new values in blank cells.
Same thing I also tested in IBP 4.0 FP1 Patch 1 and configuration is exactly the same as SOP 3.0 (Both SAP2 and SAP4 planning area) but I am able to modify consensus demand key figure in both the copied planning area (Copy of SAP2 and SAP4) irrespective of monthly / periodid selected as the root.
Please let me know if you have observed this before and what are your feedback/suggestions.
Thanks

Creation of SNP planned order in Monthly Bucket though CTM plan
Hi,
Can anyone advise how to aggregate the SNP planned order generated after CTM run in Monthly bucket.
Can it be done through customizing?
Regards.
Punitsystem switches over to external procurement in place of in house production only when you use optimizer.
Heuristic will do this only if there is a SNP PPM/PDS and the resource calendar prevents timely production.
