Ctrl+alt, right click brush size

ctrl+alt right click horizontal and vertical brush size
Using both Photoshop cs 6 and cc on Mac.
The alt + ctrl + right click whilst dragging both vertical and horizontal to change the size and hardness of brush no longer functions.
In CC when I alt + ctrl + right click the entire document frame moves.
I have tried resetting my preferences to no avail and I am now desperate for a solution to this problem so I can restore photoshop to it's original state.
Running Mac OS X 10.8.4
Imac 2011 and 2012 both 27"
Macbook pro retina
this problem is replicatable on all hardware, using either the in built track pad, magic tractpad or magic mouse.
Kind Regards
Mark

I just randomly got it. Saved my day!!!!
(Found your thread cause i had the same problem)

  • Inconsistent Alt - Right Click Brush Resizing in PS CS5

Anyone else seeing the new brush sizing gestures working inconsistently?
If I hold down the Alt key and click the right mouse button...
    - Sometimes I see a red brush facsimile that I can resize or make harder/softer by moving the mouse right/left or down/up.  I assume this is the intended behavior.
    - Sometimes I see just an outline of the size, which I can resize by moving the mouse right/left.  Hardness may be affected, but it's impossible to tell.
    - Sometimes I can't use the gestures at all; Alt + Right Click simply does nothing.
I haven't been able to put my finger on it or investigate it in any great detail because I'm usually working on something and want to continue concentrating on that something.  Usually I'm using the Spot Healing brush, or the Clone tool, or the Eraser tool, or the Paintbrush tool.
Complicating matters is the fact that I use both the 32 bit and 64 bit Photoshop CS5, and it's possible I have some setting different in one than the other.  I've been trying to use them kind of interchangeably just to get to know them.
I just started both 32 bit and 64 bit versions (in succession) and tried all the above tools, and found that the second problem above was manifesting only in the 32 bit version.  Then I noticed my OpenGL settings had disappeared again.  I had thought the ATI 10.5 drivers had solved that, but apparently not - at least not completely.  So I'm back to using the AllowOldGPUs_ON registry fix until the next ATI driver update.  Sigh.
After the registry fix, and verifying OpenGL settings are "Advanced" on both 32 bit and 64 bit versions, I see the red brush for all the above tools.
I'll watch for the gestures going away again, and post the edit log (which I have enabled for detailed text logging).

  • Alt+Right Click Panel not working - gnome

Hi, I'm using the lastest gnome with gnome-extra (3.2.1-1) and stock wm, no fallback mode or anything. Alt+RightClick on the top panel doesn't produce a context menu. However, clicking my user name in the top right and then pressing Alt changes "Suspend" to "Power Off..." as expected.
    Anyone else having this problem?

hey kalinatek, im facing the exact same issue... But have you tried Super+Alt+Right Click?? It seems to solve problems for others but not for me somehow, its really bugging me...
Iv uninstalled compiz, tweeked dconf, gconf, what not... but the problem is still persisting.... though the other shortcuts work fine...
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance...

  • Right+click brush panel problem

I use dual monitors. Tools on one monitor, doc. on the other. When working on the doc side and I right+click to bring up the brush tool panel to quickly change brushes, size, etc. the brush tool panel opens, but on the monitor with my tools not under my brush on the doc side. Basically this below.
I painted, right clicked to change brush size and the brush panel opens hugging the right side of the other monitor. My brush is the round in the black paint. (I tabbed my other tools out so as to make it as clear as possible.) Any help I can get with with this will be a huge help.

Thanks for your response. I'm not sure if that's the problem however. My drivers are up to date, and my G.C. is set to where it should be. Also I have no problem operating anything else on the other monitor, and right clicking to open another window (i.e. magic brush tool right click to deselect, feather, etc., right click using the crop tool) all work on both monitors. Which is why I think it's a bug.

  • Wacom Cintiq Right Click Brush Tool Problem in CS5

    Hello Everyone,
So I've been trying out the new CS5 and was excited to try out the new brush menu on my cintiq. When I tried it out it was awesome but when I right clicked using either the mouse or pen, the quick access brush menu invokes on the laptop monitor rather than near the cursor like with other tools or other versions of photoshop. It is really annoying to have to drop the pen in order to adjust the brush. Totally slows you down. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I've searched around a bit and have yet to hear anyone complain about this. I suspect it might be the same for dual monitor setups? Thus far just CS5 has this glitch with the brush tool.
Any help with this is much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    ~Carlos

I'm having the same issues as you describe.  CS5 (64-bit) and my Cintiq seem to be working well, except for the annyance of the brush window location... I'd like it to "pop up" on the Cintique where I'm doing all of my active work.  Unfortunately, the pop-up window will only open on the main (non-Cintique) monitor.
I've searched the web, the Adobe forums, and the Wacom forums, but very little information is available on this topic.  I would think that there would be a lot more activity on this subject, but perhaps there's a work-around that we haven't found?
    Any help is definitely appreciated!

  • Right-click - "Reset Size" for images broken

If I create an image and insert it onto the page, then go back and re-size the image in Photoshop, come back to the page and right click on the image I can choose "reset size" which used to correct the height and width of the image to the new size.
Now, with CC 2014.1 when I try it, it deletes the width entirely from the code and doesn't change the height at all.
    This is broken!

File a bug report where it will be logged and seen by the engineers.

  • Suggestion ... right click brush panel

    Hi
i downloaded and installed Configurator in hopes to add a
special menü to PS-CS4 but unfortunatly it only can create
normal button pannels. But I would like to make a new panel for the
right click in brush mode which looks something like this ...
    right
    click bruch mode menue
Could somebody clarify if configurator ist capeable of this
or am I looking at the wrong end?
Anyway since this panel is my only whish perhaps you could
also redirect me to the right adobe forums where I can get my idea
done instead of lurking this forum ... (sorry I am not into coding
I am more or less a user)
    thanks in advance
    regards mogh

Configurator would not be able to create the panel you have
mocked up. You create something close to what you want using Flex
    and the Photoshop Panel SDK:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/photoshop/
    It would require code (ActionScript).

i've had this problem for a while now. i can remember being able to right/ctrl click in safari, but it just refuses to work! very annoying when i want to speak selected text, for example. i have pith helmet installed (which i hate btw - causes more annoyances than solutions), could that effect it?

I don't know for sure, but it's possible. Try uninstalling it and see what happens.
Also, have a read of item 16 on this page. Maybe it applies to you.

  • Change brush size and hardness with CTRL-OPT-DRAG

It may seem like an odd question, but I just can't use the shortcut to change size and the hardness of the brush in CS5 : Ctrl-Opt-drag
I work on a MacBook Pro with a magic mouse. As soon as I click on CTRL, at the tip of the pointer, a small box appears (the icon of a menu) and then if I click, the small brush menu opens.
I work on a french keyboard and I don't know how to get to change this shortcut since I'm not looking to reassign a key but an 'action'.
I've reset all the shortcuts to original settings in the keyboard Preferences.
Oh, and yes, I did select the OpenGL option.
It sounds really easy but it's driving me crazy !!!
If anyone has an answer, that would really help !
    Thanks,

Ruedis, thanks for your input, but on a Mac, a Ctrl+Click is the same as a windows Right click (and one can Right Click with a mouse on a Mac), the Option key is the equivalent to the Windows Alt key (on my UK keyboard, it is also ALT that is written on the key. The Windows CTRL key is called Command on a Mac.
So, on a Mac forum, saying CTRL-OPT-DRAG equals to saying ALT+Right Click on a PC one.
    In short:
    Win
    Mac
    Right Click
    Ctrl+Click
    Alt
    Option
    Ctrl
    Command
    Shift
    Shift
Don't let this discourage you, please continue to share your experience, but be aware that sometimes, the problems are not cross-platform.

  • MSOffice v.X crash on ctrl/right click

I have Microsoft Office v.X and I am happy with that, but after recent upgrade to Intel and Snow Leopard 10.6 from PPC iBook G4 Office programs like Word and Excel crashed after ctrl (or right mouse) click. Safe mode, updates - NOTHING helped. However, I took it serious what MS is saying about third parity contextual menus interfering with Office, and found
    /Library/Contextual\ Menu\ Items /Library/Contextual\ Menu\ Items
folder with ArlaCMM.bundle. I moved the whole folser to /Library/Contextual\ Menu\ Items /Library/Contextual\ Menu\ Items\ Disabled and logged out and in again - and now I can right click in MS Word files, SOLVED! So here are some points:
    1) I want to share this result in hope it will be useful to someone
    2) Finder does not search /Libruary or ~/Libruary folder, nether it allow to rename subfolders there, so I used Terminal.

This is a solution for MS Word / Excel crashing after ctrl or right click in Leopard.

  • Brush size visualization

    Hi all,
I don't know if this is new in CC or if there is a setting somewhere ( I am coming from cs3 to cc). How would one get the colored (red) brush sizing when alt-right clicking to change the brush size? Mine just shows the black ellipse outline, not the gradient edges for the brush. I am on a Mac with an Intuos pro.
    Thanks.

The shortcut Alt + right click + drag left or right is the windows shortcut.
On a mac it would be Ctrl + Option + Left click + drag left or right
    A couple things to note:
    1. Use graphics processor needs to be checked under Photoshop>Preferences>Performance>Use Graphics Processor
    2. The colored preview with either windows or mac, using the above shortcuts, only works with the default round brushes (brushes that the hardness can be adjusted) or presets made using the default round brushes as a base
Sampled Brushes won't show the colored preview.

  • Ctrl-Alt-drag for brushsize also moves Canvas. Bug/problem

Hi, I'm experiencing a weird problem with Adobe Photoshop Version: 12.0.1 on Mac OS 10.6.4 (Macbook Pro).
I've used the ctrl+alt+mousedrag shortcut for changing brush size for some time, but a few days ago it started acting weird. (I have no clue what provoked it)
If I hold ctrl+alt keys down and move my mouse around, the entire canvas follows the mouse (independent on fullscreen) around.
However if I hold ctrl+alt and click once with the left mousebutton before moving the mouse, then keep holding down ctrl+alt it will act as normal and I can use the cursor to get the brush-settings the way I want it without the canvas moving around. But it is still annoying me because this is something I do very often, and thus it is really messing with my workflow.. And I know it hasn't allways been like this.
I've tried dumping the settings file, but not yet a full reinstall as I am hoping there might be a fix for this.
    Thanks,
    Steffen

Hi, thanks for the reply. I just figured out what is causing this and came back to post it.. You were on the right track!!
I recently downloaded a beta of something called HyperDock (http://hyperdock.bahoom.de).. Disabling that application fixes the issue.
Goodbye hyperdock - welcome back ctrl+alt+drag!
//Edit: Seems there is a setting in hyperdock that I can turn off, so it can run witihout messing with the shortcuts.. It is actually a decent app if you tend to use a lot of windows.

  • Why is Liquify Brush Size so Out of Proportion?

When I choose the Liquify option from the Filter menu, the Liquify tool opens and I have access to the custom set of Liquify tools. Unlike almost any other tool where you select a brush size, the Liquify tool requires you to modify the position of a slider rather than selecting the brush size dynamically by right-clicking.
The problem is that the brush size selector control goes from 0 to 15,000px diameter. In order to make effective use of a 15,000 pixel liquify push tool, you'd have to have a really large image. Perhaps there is a case where someone at some time used a 15,000 px diameter nudge brush in the Liquify tool, but in my nearly 20 years of using Photoshop, I have never come across the need for a brush that large.
Regardless, because the selector uses a linear scale, it is really difficult to select a small brush size (say less than 100px) without manually incrementing the slider.
I would really like to see Adobe standardize the tool size/preset selector so that it is always available via the context menu (or equivalent) and that an option exists to enable relative slider values or percentage slider values in incremental selectors like brush size. Percentages could be setup where 100% was the largest side of the current image and then brush sizes could be selected via percentage of your image (of course converting to pixels, but the scale would be percentage-based). Even an exponential scale that favored the smaller values would be helpful. Or perhaps, movable caps that would allow you to set your own Max and Min values....that would rock.
Are there are any plugins that solve this problem? Anybody have any advice on how I might be able to select more appropriately scaled brushes in the Liquify tool when I am working with images where a 15,000 pixel brush head is unreasonable.
Any input would be greatl appreciated.
    Jase

    R_Kelly, thanks for the reply.
The problem isn't that there aren't enough ways to change the size fo the cursor, it's the relative scale of the cursor. I have two 37" Dell Ultra monitors on my desktop and to use the Alt-Right click method of resizing the brush (even on a 7500 pixel wide document at 300 dpi), I have to drag from one side of my dual monitor setup across 60 inches (whatever the horizontal width of a 37" monitor x2) about 50 times to get the brush to a size that I can actually see the outline of it.
Then, once I can see the outline of the Nudge Tool (in the Liquify tools), if I drag about 3 pixels, the visible outline of the brush wildly jumps from full-screen to tiny. It's because the scale of the brush size selector is a mess. 95% of the sizes in the selector are bigger than the piece that I am working on. Does that make sense? Why would you be able to select a tool size bigger than your document? Furthermore why would you want 95% of the available tool sizes to be unusable? It doesn't make any sense at all.
Thanks for the short reminder on brush size manipulation in general. I was surprised to see it work in the Liquify tool--though it didn't solve the issue.
    Best wishes,
    Jase

  • Brush Size Free Scale

The current Alt+Space shortcut for free image scaling is very convenient and intuitive.
Please add a feature that would allow to Freely Scale the Brush Size in a similar manner. It could be assigned to Shft+Space.
    Thank you,
    Alex

    From the manual:
Resize or change hardness of painting cursors by dragging
You can resize or change the hardness of a painting cursor by dragging in the image. As you drag, the painting cursor previews your changes. (Previews require OpenGL. See Enable OpenGL and optimize GPU settings.)
To resize a cursor, press Alt + right-click (Windows) or Control + Option (Mac OS), and drag left or right. To change hardness, drag up or down.
