Ctrl Click for dropdown menu crashes finder...

Every time I control click lately, to get the dropdown menu that has items in it like, new window etc... the finder crashes. Any advice?

First thing to try is to open Disk Utility (in Applications>Utilities) and click on the hard drive on the left, then 'Repair Permissions'. This process can take a few minutes, and may report a few items resolved. It has been known for faulty permissions to cause idiosyncratic system behavior.
If that doesn't work, download a copy of Preferential Treatment from www.versiontracker.com. and run it on both system-wide and user levels. This will flag if you have any problems with property list (.plist) files which can also cause this sort of issue.
If that doesn't help, create a new user account and long on to that. Does the problem then disappear?

  • Web report - Right click for context menu

I believe SAP switched the way (left mouse button to right one) to get web report context menu as of BW 3.5. I am looking for the official documentation for it. I could not find it in online help

Does anyone knows where I can find it?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm using Firefox 4.0.1 on Ubuntu 9.10 32 bit. Every time I can reproduce this bug, I'm able to revert it by killing the Adoble Flash process:
    Example:
    $ ps ax | grep libflashplayer.so
    2072 ? Rl 0:05 /opt/firefox/plugin-container /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so -omnijar /opt/firefox/omni.jar 32533 true plugin
    2229 pts/3 S+ 0:00 grep libflashplayer.so
    $ kill 2072
Plugin version: Shockwave Flash 10.2 r159
Hope this helps to find the cause.

  • Keyboard shortcut for context menu

Hello all. I recently got a MacBook and it's the first Mac I've ever had. I'm a keyboard shortcut guy when I can be and one thing that's stumped me is using the keyboard to open up the context menu.
Does anybody know a keyboard shortcut for opening the context menu (ie Ctrl + mouse Click)?
If there isn't one, I would be happy to add a custom keyboard shortcut for it in the System Preferences. I've tried to do so but I'm doing something wrong because it isn't working. Here's what I've tried specifically:
    1. For "All Applications" add Ctrl+Space for the Menu Title "Show Context Menu"
    2. For "All Applications" add Ctrl+Space for the Menu Title "Open Context Menu"
Does anybody know the exact Menu Title for the context menu?
    Help is much appreciated!

The Keyboard Shortcuts are for menu items, not macro creation. What you want to do requires a third-party utility for programming keyboard macros such as iKey, QuickSilver, etc. You'll find these at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Sqldev 4 EA: ctrl-click not working

ctrl-click for drilldown to objects form pl/sql code does not work.
I get an annoying message to put my object in a "Select * from" statement.
However this does not work either.

Select the Move tool and in the Options bar change the dropdown from Group to Layer, that should fix it

  • How do you disable ctrl-click?

How do you prevent ctrl-click from opening a context-specific menu? It's seriously getting in the way of Cognos which requires ctrl-click for multiple selection.
It would seem that Cognos was written without Macs in mind but there is a lot of supposedly platform-independent software that makes that uses ctrl-click, not cmd-click, for multiple selection, so I'm hoping that others have long since found a solution that presently eludes me.

Open System Preferences/Keyboard, click the Modifier Keys button
Go to the action for the Control key and set it to No Action then click OK then close the panel

When i click on 'Show all in Finder' after searching for anything on spotlight, NOTHING happens! NO Finder window opens up and the spotlight dropdown menu just shuts! Please help!

I'm having the same problem in other places as well, for example when i downloaded Easyfind right now, clicking the small magnifying glass button on the right of the file name (shown below) would usually open up finder highlighting the file, but now nothing happens when i click on that button!
Is there a solution for this, as this was a very useful feature which i used ALL the time?

  • Finder refreshes if I right click (Ctrl-Click)

Every-time I try to right click or Ctrl-Click on an icon, it refreshes my Finder. I have tried the black optical mac mouse, a Logitech MX 700 wireless, and a regular Logitech optical. When I say refresh I mean more of a restart. My open windows are closed and my desktop icons go away then come back. My open apps are not affected. Help!!!

    Hi Matthew,
It sounds like it could be an item in /library/contextual menu items. Drag the contents of that folder to the desktop and test again. If that sorts it, put the items back one at a time to find the culprit.
If that's not it, navigate to ~(yourhome)/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Finder.crash.log open it and paste the contents here for the latest Finder crash and maybe we can figure what's going on.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try emptying the Safari cache and reset Safari.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

    Hi Ashley Clavette,
The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • Need help with finding a workaround: the shotcut ctrl+click opens 2 tabs in my case

    Hello!
I have several links with an onclick event, which contains some javascript handling and window.open() after it, and they have attribute href="javascript:void(0);" as well.
When user try Ctrl+click Firefox opens him 2 tabs: the first one with "right" content and the second with javascript:void(0).
I've tried to set href="#" and in this case Ctrl+click works as I want, but on the original tab the user is redirected by the browser to the top of the page. The empty attribute (href="") also results 2 tabs. Maybe there is some value of the href attribute with which everything will work as I want? I've fed up with this and will be appreciated a lot if you help. Thanks.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == User use Ctrl+click

I won't be searching thru all that code to try to find something relevant to your post, but if you are using a Loader to load the images, you can get the width and height as soon as the loading is complete using the loader object (loader.width, loader.height).  You just need to wait until loading is complete, so you'll need a listener for that if you don't have one already.

  • InDesign CS5 crashes when clicking on Edit menu or context menu

I had this infuriating problem with InDesign CS4, found a few references to others having the same issue, but never any real solutions.  This problem seems to in InDesign CS5 as well.
With a document open, if I click the Edit menu or right-click anywhere in the document window (including in the pasteboard area... it does not have to be on an object), ID immediately freezes and I get the Windows 7 "Adobe InDesign CS5 has stopped working" dialog.
I've deleted the preferences, created a brand new one-page document, and the problem persists.  If no document is open, I can pull down the Edit menu just fine.  With a document open, ID crashes before it even draws the menu.  It does not matter whether I use the mouse or the keyboard to get to the Edit menu.  I can also right-click on things like palette tabs to bring up the context menu.  But I cannot right-click anywhere on the document itself without ID crashing.
The maddening thing is that the problem did not show up until some time today.  I've brought up an object's Effects window via right-click plenty of times, as well as used the Fitting context menu.  It was working fine last night and earlier this morning.  Then suddenly for no discernible reason, the crashes started happening.  I am not aware of any changes to my system that might reasonably cause this.  No new fonts, no Windows updates, no Adobe updates.
Any suggestions on how else I can troubleshoot this?

    Peter,
Yes, I can bring up the Paragraph Styles and the Character palettes with no document open, edit the [Basic Paragraph] style to change the font family, then open a blank document, and new text boxes will use that font.
I'm on a bit of a deadline right now, so I ended up uninstalling ID CS5 and reinstalling it.  I can now successfully bring up the Edit menu and the right-click context menu both in a blank document and in the document I was working on before.  I'm sure the problem will reappear again at some random point in the future, so I am still looking for fixes that don't involve reinstalling the app.
BTW, I have tried exporting my work document to IDML and re-importing it, but to no avail.  I've also tried toggling Dynamic Spelling (past threads have suggested this as a possible fix), but also to no avail.
It would be really nice if Adobe products produced some sort of crash dump or bug report when this sort of thing happens...

  • Can't "open with" using finder ctrl click

    Hi-
Sometimes when in the finder and I want to open an image in photoshop instead of preview i can ctrl click and select 'open with'. However, sometimes when I ctrl click on the image, the image is unselected and the only options that come up are the standard finder window options. Sometimes, when I try multiple times it will eventually allow me to "open with" but when I do - it opens up a completely different file than I ctrl clicked on.
Any ideas why I am able to do this on some images and not others? I have noticed this in earlier versions of osx as well.
ps- yes i am ctrl clicking on the image's icon (not next to it or the name)
    Thanks!!!

Personally I have never seen this. If you have it on several different machines I would suspect something that you routinely install is causing a problem, perhaps some Contextual Menu item that you use.
Far simpler way to open a file in another application is to simply drag the file onto the application's icon in the Dock. I do that all the time. I often have jpegs set to open in Preview by default, since Photoshop is such a memory hog and takes forever to launch. Rather than change this preference when I actually want to open and work with a file in PS I simply drag it to the PS icon.

  • Lightroom 5.3: Lens Profile for AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G (Nikon D80) not in dropdown menu?

A few questions using Lightroom 5.3:
    1. Under the Lens Corrections tab in the Develop module, the  Lens Profile for AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G (Nikon D80) is not in the dropdown menu.  How do I download the profile or enter it manually?
    2. I am using RAW, but I do have many old images taken as JPG's that I am editing.  Does that make a difference as to which profile you would use?
    3. If it is set to 'Default' or 'Auto' is Lightroom automatically detecting which lens I am using?  I'm new at this.
