CU4 Client Update via SCUP

Anyone else seen issues with this update getting stuck on "Installing"?  Followed usual procedure, deployed to around 5,000 client but seeing the number of clients reporting in as CU4 growing very slowly and reports of it being stuck in
Software Centre...

I've recently used this to update my lab environment:
http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/post/publish-cumulative-updates-of-configmgr-via-system-center-updates-publisher/
I've not encountered any problems with that. Have you verified the client log files for any issues?

  • Flash Update via SCUP Problem

    Hello,
I am deploying Updates via SCUP and SCCM to hundreds of Computers.
Fortunately Adobe provides an SCCM Update Catalog for both Adobe Flash ActiveX and Adobe Flash Plugin.
    But now my Problem:
After publishing the Update via SCCM, the client is not supposed to be interfered with the Update Progress (which is working)
I figured the Updater works like this:
First SCCM checks if a Update needs to be deployed, if this is the case, The Flash Updater begins.
First the old Flash Version is beeing uninstalled.
But now: if the Client has a Browser Window (IE, or Firefox) open, the Updater is not able to install the new Flash Version and quits with an Error.
This leaves the Client PC without any Flash (because its being uninstalled before)
How can I prevent Flash being uninstalled due to the Update progress not working while a Browser window is open?
    Thank you very much!
    Sincerely Martin

You might get better results asking in the Flash Player forum rather than here in the Flash Pro forum.  Here's a link:

  • Adobe Reader 11 Update via SCUP

    Hi all,
i'm updating Adobe Reaer via SCCM and SCUP and the published catalogs from Adobe.
When importing the updates i do not see the MUI Update for Version 11.0.5, but the not MUI Version is available.
is this update published later what do i wrong?
    Thanks a lot

I'm a bit sorry, I've used the non MUI version for deployment, it was the German 11.0.04 Package.
11.0.05 Deployment via SCUP was done without any problems.
I tried "msiexec /update AdbeRdrUpd11006.msp" with Logging Option and this is the output (It's a bit in german I hope its not a problem):

  • Adobe Updates via SCUP

I am attempting to push out updates for Adobe products using SCUP but am running into a strange issue when clients attempt to install them.
The clients all see that flash player 11.9.900.170 is available and a required update based on the version currently installed, however when they attempt to install the update, UpdatesDeployment.log reports error 0x80240017 indicating the update is not applicable.
I thought maybe it was due to the version the clients were currently on (11.7.x.x) so I manually updated a couple to another version (11.9.900.117 then 11.9.900.152 when that failed) to see if that would make a difference, but every time it was the same
    result.
Has anyone experienced this/found a solution?

I have seen issues with the rules multiple times. Open the Flash Player package in SCUP and verify that the detection rules are correct.

Exactly the same issue here (see http://forums.adobe.com/message/6285043#6285043). We have stopped the deployment of that package since nearly every second client is affected by this. It seems that the installation package does uninstall the flash player ocx (both 32-bit and 64-bit), but does not install the new version.
I remember there was a bug at the beginning of this year, where the install package did install the new version, but marked it as "failed" in SCCM software center.. Just a few days later there was a new package in SCUP with the same version number...

  • Deploying Java Software Updates and SCUP 2011

    Hello again All,
I've created  a Java software update (JRE 7u71 (x86)) using SCUP 2011, and followed Kent Agerlund's "The_Complete_SCUP_2011_installation_and_configuration_guide" (great doc by the way). I've made sure to include all of the switches and
    installable/installed rules as recommended.
Now the problem, once I advertise the update via SCCM, and begin installing, if a browser is open and Java is in use, then it will hang for a while and eventually just fail. However, when I run the java executable locally (jre-7u71-windows-i586.exe),
with the same switch (/s "IEXPLORER=1 MOZILLA=1" /quiet),  the system will actually reboot and then install once booted back up; which is desirable.
Has anybody experienced this issue, and if so how do I remediate?
    For 32 bit systems, I also get the following prompt;
Note: I'm not sure why the full switch is required, as I can only find reference that the JRE executable supports the "/s".
I can provide logs as well, if requested.
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Dell Updates using SCUP error 0x800b0004

    Dear,
When trying to deploy Dell updates using SCCM (and SCUP integration) we constantly receive the following error:
WUAHandler.log: "Failed to download update to the WUAgent datastore. Error = 0x800b0004"
UpdatesHandler.log: "Failed to initiate install of WSUS updates, error = 0x800b0004"
"Failed to start WSUSUpdate, error = 0x800b0004"
The SCUP certificate has been imported in the Trusted Root CA & Trusted publisher store on the WSUS (SCCM) server and the server we are using to test the deployment.
    Any ideas?
    Best regards,
    B.

Just wanted to add a few things for any possible readers of this thread.
I have been battling SCUP 2011 and SCCM 2012 R2, pretty successfully. What I did was.
    1. Requested a cert from our internal CA per other resources that are out there.
    2. Published cert via SCUP.
    3. Added cert to Trusted Publishers folder in Cert.Manager on Windows clients in workstation context. (manually this can be done by running MMC first, then Ctrl+M and Certificates, when it opens it will prompt for context, User, Machine, Service)
One thing that was really helpful to me was the actual Crypto API log of Windows, as it told me what was wrong with the cert I generated initially (bad chain). Run event viewer, nav to Apps and Services folder, MS, Windows, CAPI2 (I assume this stands for
Crypto API), right-click on Operational log, and click ENABLE to start logging. The latter can greatly enhance your troubleshooting.
    Cheers.

  • Airport client Update  2009-02 buggy?10++min system start, OS bogged  down

I installed the Airport Client update a little over a week ago via Software Update. Since then I've had intermittent problems with the airport connection being dropped, but a larger problem is that the system (especially Safari) seems to slow down to the point that I have to force quit programs and reboot. The reboot brings up white screen with the grey apple and a progress bar - AND it takes between 10 and 15 minutes for the OS to load.
This massive time to boot started when the Airport client update was installed and happens now to my iMac on every startup.
3 days before the Airpot update there was also a Java update. I'd love to know what the problem is - it's more than a minor nuisance . I also notice that I can hear the the hard drive running nonstop the same time the system is freezing up. This seems to be at it's worst when the screen saver has been running for a while.

Sorry if I missed it...which of your computers is acting up?
Did you update via Software Update or did you download the combo? If you used Software Update, get the Combo updater instead and re-apply:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959
As well, try resetting some of the hardware involved (PRAM~NVRAM). See this Apple KB for details, etc.:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Be sure to make another permission repair pass as well.

  • Disconnect WSUS server and Process of Approving Updates via Metadata.

    Hi Folks:
I have recently setup 2 WSUS servers.   The first one has connectivity to the Internet and of course has access to Microsoft updates.   The second WSUS server is part of a disconnected network.   Both WSUS servers are supporting client workstations
of various operating system versions.   The connected WSUS server is fairly easy, from a management viewpoint.   I simply check to see what updates are "Needed" and I approve them for download.   However, the disconnected WSUS server
is the one that I need some advice on.   I want to have a fairly simply procedure for the disconnected WSUS server, but here is the procedure that I think would work:
Transfer metadata and updates via disc from the connected WSUS server to the disconnected WSUS server (using documented export/import procedure).
Check to see what is "Needed" updates on the disconnected WSUS server, once the WSUS server has had a chance to absorb all the imported metadata and updates.   This means that the disconnected WSUS server has determined from it's supported
client workstations, what updates are required.
Generate a list of those "Needed" updates in some form, so that I can now approve those updates on the CONNECTED WSUS server for download.
Once those updates have been downloaded to the connected WSUS server, transfer the updates and metadata again to the disconnected WSUS server.   Approve those updates, so that they can now be sent out to the client workstations on the disconnected
    network.
If that is my procedure (can someone like Lawrence Garvin), please let me know, if that sounds correct.   I'm concerned about the double export/import of the metadata and updates.
Also, I'm wondering if it would be better to have separate connected WSUS server for supporting the disconnected WSUS to keep things straight.
    For example:
One connected WSUS servers supporting the set of client workstations, that are on the connect WSUS server's network.
One disconnected WSUS server supporting the set of client workstations that are on the disconnected WSUS server's network.
One more connected WSUS server, that would be used to download and transfer metadata and updates to the disconnect WSUS server.   The advantage in keeping this separate, is that you would never confuse approved updates between the connected network
client workstations and the disconnected network client workstations.  Especially, if they have different versions of software, that require updating.
    Any input would be appreciated.

You will likely also want to configure your WSUS server to "Download express installation files." under the "Update Files and Languages," setting on your options.
I will unequivocally disagree with this statement, for several reasons:
First, there's nothing that needs to be deployed that would use Express Installation Files anyway. Express Installation Files were designed to facilitate the deployment of Very Large Updates (read: SERVICE PACKS) across slow-speed links by significantly
reducing the size of the binary that must be downloaded by the CLIENT. There are NO service packs in the catalog that won't already be installed on any client system.
Second, in exchange for that ability of clients to download less, it significantly increased the size of the binary that must be downloaded by the SERVER from Microsoft. Express Installation Files will cause hundreds of gigabytes of extra binaries to be
downloaded, which will need to be transferred to the disconnected server. None of which will actually ever be used.
Third, most disconnected networks do not include WAN links, so the primary purpose of Express Installation File is contra-indicated by the very scenario being discussed.
Otherwise by default you might get just an installer downloaded onto the WSUS server and clients might still need internet access to download the actual package contents.
It would seem that you do not correctly understand Express Installation Files.
There is an in-depth explanation of Express Installation Files in the WSUS Deployment Guide. For additional information see
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd939908(v=ws.10).aspx#express
I also would not recommend a internet facing WSUS server just to provide updates to the disconnected WSUS server as that will also need to download a full copy of the content to that server when it is likely already downloaded onto your internet
    / production WSUS server anyway.
Seemingly you are also not actually familiar with the documented guidance for how to manage disconnected networks. An Internet-facing (connected) WSUS server is *exactly* how this is done.
You may also find this part of the Deployment Guide to be useful reading:

  • Product updates via API cause release date to be changed

When running product updates via the eCommerce API (Product_UpdateInsert) the release dates for the updated products are being set to 02-Jan-2000. Is this happening for anyone else?
This is kind of painful as we have a client who uses the product release dates throughout their site...

Ran into the same issue. I was using the release date to flag latest products, regardless of ordering. Unfortunately running a product import then destroyed all that work.
Found this thread with a staff reponse regarding it not being possible to set release dates using import, but it doesn't explain why release dates get reset.

  • Skype for Business Client update

    Hi,
First of all let me get this out of the way "Microsoft Office 365 support sucks".
    now the simple question:
If office proplus is installed via portal (through on-click run), how does it get the update for skype for business?
I have over 1000 users and its not feasible to run the updates via an office application on each machine.
(Note: getting update does not mean UI change. it simply means the client is updated and ready to accept the UI once it is allowed via csclientpolicy in a update Lync server environment).
(Note 2: the useless O365 support says it will come through windows updates; I have done multiple tests on different test machines and that is not correct. Another technet says office proplus updates are done through scheduled tasks. Even if the office automatic
update task runs, the client does not get updated with new Skype for Business.)

    Hi Atif7865,
    Please check out this thread
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/172/t/345370.aspx
“Q2. Where can I download Skype for Business since it does not appear to be included with the Office365 download file? ====================== A2. You need to manually update your Office application,
then you will be able to upgrade to Skype for Business. You can to do this on your Outlook client: Open your Outlook client ->
    FILE ->
    Office Account ->
    Apply updates”
And this issue is more related to Office 365 application,
we would like to give a hand, but we are not the specialists in this filed. Thanks for your understanding.
    Best regards,

  • CU2 Update with SCUP

    Hi All
We have an environment of a CAS and a Primary site and approximately 15.000 Windows 7 computers
We implemented 3 months ago SCUP for the updates of Adobe everything works perfectly.
We have upgraded our servers to SCCM 2012 R2 CU2.
We now want our clients to be upgraded from SCCM 2012 R2 to SCCM 2012 R2 CU2.
I've imported the CU updates (cab file) into scup afterwards published these 4 updates in SCUP .
These 4 updates are now visible in SCCM underneath all software updates.
I want to deploy these CU2 updates with the monthly patches of November , can I handle these updates as a normal software update and deploy these updates at the same time as the other software updates for the month November.
Second question will the load of my primary server be a problem with the upgrade of the clients to CU2?
I hope someone can help me with these questions?
    Regards
    Johan

Just go ahead an deploy it, but I won't upgrade the client at the same time as regular patches (just a feeling, no technical reason).
The load would be the same as on other patchdays.
(Why have you deployed a CAS and a single primary site only?)

  • Auto update via Jabber-Config.xml file

    All,
I wan't to force J4W updates via the jabber-config.xml file, but that's the only thing I want to do.  Can the jabber-config.xml file be populated only with the auto update option and nothing else so the user still has control over their own client's options?  Or, do the rest of the options need to be defined within the xml file as well?  The install guide seems to indicate that one can pick and choose the J4W options they want to globally set within the jabber-config.xml file, but it's not entirely clear.
    Thanks,
    Joe.

    Hi Joe,
yes, you are right. You only have to define settings in the jabber-config.xml file that are not default. Everything else stays default.
    Regards
    Andre

  • CU4 Client Version not showing

I upgraded my lab environment to CU4. The upgrade process went flawless. I then deployed the client update, which also went smoothly. All of my clients show the version 5.00.7958.1501 under Control Panel.
What is unusual is I'm not seeing the updated client version from the management console. I've run a hardware and software inventory. Settled for several hours. No change.
    Any thoughts?

You have your answer here : http://vstepic.blogspot.ca/2015/02/updated-sccm-2012-r2-clients-version-in.html

  • Config Manager 2012 client upgrade (via package with batch commands)

    Hello all,
I would like to kindly ask for your help with my question regarding a SCCM 2012 R2 client upgrade (from RTM to R2)
Recently, we have upgraded from RTM version of SCCM2012 to R2 (with the PXE hotfix applied)
During the process, I have choose not to upgrade clients when the SP1 was applied and go straight for the R2, which is not a problem I believe.
My question is regarding the pre-created packages, that are showing up in the console. I believe, that they are the easiest way to upgrade clients via packages in SCCM. (we can't push the installation due network policy)
This hotfix is stored here: \\"FQDN_site_server"\SMS_TSP\hotfix\KB2905002\Client\x64    (in case of x64 version, x86 is the same but x86 in the end)
The executed file from this path is this with this command following:
    msiexec.exe /p configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp /L*v %TEMP%\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp.LOG /q REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=mous
Anyway, when we install the clients when we deploy it for the first on a machine, that has no client or we reinstall it, we do it with help of this batch command:
    set curdir=%~dp0
    %curdir%ccmsetup.exe SMSSITECODE=TSP /NoCRLCheck /UsePKIcert /forceinstall SMSMP=HTTPS://CML.LTSPRAGUE.CZ CCMHOSTNAME=CML.LTSPRAGUE.CZ
I just need to know, if I can use the prepared package from the console in our case and if it will keep the settings when the package is deployed.
I belive I have found a similar questin here on the forums:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c9b40687-1843-44c7-b61b-fd26d53ab90b/cumulative-update-3-and-agent-upgrade?forum=configmanagerdeployment
The second answer might the answer I'm looking for, but can you explain that to me like I'm five years old? :)
    Please, let me know.
    The IT guys from LukOIL

I'm not sure, because of my short time at  the company, but there are historical security reasons for setting the push installation off.
Second reason are strict firewall rules used here. SCCM Agent may contact site server through HTTPS - that is a one way communication, so push installation isn't possible.
Don't mix "client push" and "automatic client update". See
http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgr_geek_speak/archive/2013/09/09/using-configuration-manager-automatic-client-upgrade-to-upgrade-to-the-latest-system-center-endpoint-protection-client.aspx for further details. (And yes, the article talks about SCEP, but
it also tells details about the entire process)
    Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de
Thank you for the article and your, but I find it easier to deploy packages right now.
I have found out, that there is a folder named "ClientUpgrade" in ConfigMgr installation folder.
I used this and made a package out of it. Deployment went fine as well as the installation of the upgrade for the client, but there is a problem now, that I don't see any software in the "Software Center" in "Available Software" - and there should be, since
I have may SW pointed to me and the list was populated before I have done the upgrade to the new version.
This may be a simple problem, but I really don't know what's wrong.
