La decisión la debes tomar desde el punto de vista práctico, si crees que en algun momento, tu trabajo sacará partido práctico de tener más memoria, de forma que te ahorre tiempo (y dinero).
Si al trabajar con After Effects durante la mayoria de tiempo y ocasiones requiere menos de 16GB, el tener 32GB no va a hacer que vaya más rápido, pero si hay tareas o trabajos que podrían beneficiarse, usar más de 16GB, o tienes varias aplicaccione abiertas que consuman esa memoria..., eso si podría justificarse si ofrece una rentabilidad económica.
Tu debes ser el juez e intentar saber cuanta memoria crees que puedes necesitar, puedes monitorizar tu trabajo, el de otros, ...
De qué modelo o tipo de maquina Apple estás pensando, lo digo por el precio de la memoria y la posibilidad de poderla instalar, o no, más tarde, o de fabricantes de memoria, no preinstalada por Apple, siempre bastante más cara.

Your iMac requires DDR3 1333 MHz memory, so have a look at memory with those specs. Other memory won't work with it

Las especificaciones de tu ordenador http://support.lenovo.com/es/es/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/ideapad-y400-... indican que solo soporta DDR3, la DDR3L es de menor voltaje comprar una de estas ocasionaría que el ordenador no encienda.
Recomendable verificar que modulo tienes actualmente a través del programa CPUz y si tienes pensado agregar mas RAM a tu Y400 consigas una de similares características a la que tienes actualmente.

(13-inch, Early 2011) Buying memory/RAM from non-Apple vendors?

I've read somewhat similar threads here, and I apologize if I'm beleaguering the issue - I just couldn't find a comparable match...
I have a MacBook Pro - 13-inch (Early 2011), and I'm needing to up RAM/memory (see below screenshot).

You'll pay 2X more for memory from Apple, which they don't manufacture, they just resell. Two reliable sources of memory are OWC and Crucial (those links should take you to the memory for your system). And yes, looking at your screenshot, you can use more memory for what you run, as page outs should be no more than 10% to 15% of page ins.
When you upgrade, recommend buying 2 of the same sized memory cards, as the Intel-based memory system runs faster that way. So, that would be two 4GB cards, for example.
PS. You can usually find a 5% off coupon and free shipping on Crucial from sites like retailmenot.com.

Hola por lo que he podido ver tu equipo usa memoria tipo DDR2 y soporta 533MHz y 667MHz. Tiene 2 bancos de memoria y el máximo que admite son 4 GB.

Memory RAM upgrade won't wake up after sleep mode

i just recently purchase a pair 16GB RAM of crucial CT2K8G3S160BM for newegg.com. Yeesterday i try put this on my macbook i7 intel 2.9 processor that crucial said is compatible. but found out everything was good until i close my mac lid for hibernate. What happen is, it won't wake up no matter what i do until a way of reset SMC. BTW i try stick by stick to plug in together with my original 4gb RAM together found out 1 was ok and other one was not. But somehow why the info of hardware show that memory ram 16GB was installed and was OK. Everything was run smooth even booting. The only problem is won't wake up after sleep mode. I already try reset smc, pram, delete startimage, delete powermanagement.file and also sudo hibernate 0-7. Did anyone had this same issue of me. I'm my curiousity will it be the bad ram or software problem.

i just google around and found this two both crucial ram. Both spec are the same but different model no.
CT102464BF160B 16GB and mine is CT2K8G3S160BM are this 2 same? but both same spec.

Lighting effects not working, 'Could not apply the workspace because there is not enough memory (RAM)' with 4GB RAM?

Tried to use 'render/lighting effects' on 5 more or less new different laptops now. All kind of Window versions.
They all have at least 4GB RAM. The Graphic Card is compatible.
Layer to work on is RGB-Type.
It's all about Photoshop CC 2014, trial version.
When I go to 'Lighting effects' it says first:
'The 3D features require that 'Use Graphics Processor' is enabled in the Performance preferences. Your video card must meet the minimum requirements and you may need to check that your driver is working correctly.'
- I switched the 'Use Graphics Processor' on and off and restarted new - nothing happens.
- Video card is compatible.
Second it says:
''Could not apply the workspace because there is not enough memory (RAM)'
- RAM on all the computers I tested it with is at least 4GB
Please help!

We would need to know the amount of Video ram you have. If it is above 512 MB, then check for driver updates.

Por lo que ha dicho, parece que las memorias que ha instalado no funcionan. Ha comprado la memoria correcta para su Mac, pero están dañadas. Le recomiendo que compruebe que instaló la RAM correctamente > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270?viewlocale=es_ES#link1
Si eso no funciona, devuelva la memoria y compre otra. Le recomiendo comprar memoria en OWC o Crucial
