CUBE and NAT without SIP ALG

I was wondering if anyone had a CUBE SIP Profile example for rewriting SDP to fix private-to-public IP address in the SDP so that CUBE can be used behind a static NAT without SIP ALG.

Im trying to connect a SIP softphone (on the outside) to a IP PBX on the inside.  I am seeing postings that say that "ip nat service sip" is the command that enables that feature, and others say that it breaks it.  So far my testings shows that it does break it.  Ultimately I want my outside softphone to register to the Phone system as an external IP address.  It seems like SIP normally relays the internal IP address and the ALG router will make the translation on outbound and send it to the right source.

  • Using Non BI database as source to Build SSAS cubes and SSRS reports .

    hi,
I have a requirement where I have to use existing database(OLTP) as my source to the SSAS cubes and then to build the reports.
Where for Cubes and Reports I uses SQL Server BI edition. But my existing source data will be in non BI database.
    My questions are
    1) Can I create Fact and Dimension Model in Non BI Db and connect the same to SSAS and SSRS? What you suggest?
    2) Can I use cubes and reports without modifying the existing OLTP DB structure to fact and Dimension?
    Thanks

    1. Yes. you can
It doesnt necessary need to set up a OLAP system. However making design inline with OLAP would be easier to implement in SSAS
    2. Again yes
But using OLTP designed tables in SSAS/SSRS would require some additional overheads at querying level like referenced lookups in SSAS vs lots of joins in backend queries in SSRS.

  • SIP ALG / SIP NAT Traversal

I have a 2900 series router running IOS version 15.1(4).  I am trying to connect 3rd party sip softphones to a 3rd party SIP Call controller on the inside.  With low-cost firewall/gateways, I normally enable the SIP ALG feature and it will dynamically open the UDP ports for a SIP conversation for the duration of it and then close them.  Does cisco IOS firewall have a SIP ALG feature and how do I configure it?  Any guidance is much appreciated.

  • SIP ALG for NAT Cisco 3845

Does the SIP ALG for NAT have to be on the router where I am planning on running Call Manager Express for that to work properly, or can I have it running on an upstream router where I am currently preforming NAT functions?

You should be able to run it on either. If you have a choice, it would probably be better to run it on the upstream router. There are some things with SIP that aren't supported with the NAT ALG when the SIP is originated and fixed on the same router. One of these things I can name off hand is the 'sip bind' command which isn't supported on the same box.
It's still very possible to run it on the same box, however. But the SIP ALG doesn't require any information from CME to work properly.

  • ILBC calls via SIP Trunk with CUBE and CUCM7

    hi there,
our SIP Provider offers the IBLC codec which promises to provide better quality compard to G.729.
    I'm using this scenario:
    IP-Phone(G711) --- CUCM7 --- (SIP-Trunk1) --- CUBE --- (SIP-Trunk2) --- Provider
Everything workes unless I'm configuring IBLC at the provider and on trunk2.
I have the CUBE router acting as a trancoding device and also specified IBLC as codec to be handled.
SIP trunk 2 was placed in a region with IBLC as codec.
On the trunk configuration in CUCM the media ressource group with XCODE capability is configured
Transcoding workes between two IP Phones in different regions with different codecs within the intranet.
Unfortunately the CUBE router doesn't seem to use the transcoder to change internal G711u calls into IBLC codec
so calls are blocked by the CUBE device:

  • Unable to place call on calls on hold - SIP Trunk from CUCM to CUBE and from CUBE to ISTP

    Hi Cisco Community,
I have a SIP Trunk setup between the CUCM and CUBE and another SIP Dial Peers from the CUBE to the ITSP. All incoming/outgoing calls, DTMF-Relay works well except one thing which is the ability to hold the call.
On the SIP Trunk from the CUCM to the CUBE, I did not select “MTP” because when I do so, I am forced to select my preferred MTP codec which when selected G.729/G.729a, all my outgoing calls goes out using G.729r8. This codec works well for most of the calls until the ITSP replies back with G.729br8. When this condition occur, my call simply fails (this is very intermittent and only some random numbers).
That said, I have some issues with DTMF Relay when I select MTP on the SIP Trunk. DTMF Relay only works if the call is G.729r8 all the way from the CUCM to the ITSP. If the ITSP replies back with G.729br8, the call might established but will simply be “voice-only”.
The current setup is no MTP is selected and everything is working perfectly. I am happy with that until I place a call on hold, which when I do so, the call immediately terminate. Could you please help me understand why?
I have all media resources configured such as G.729r8 MTP, G.729br8 MTP, G.711u MTP, Transcoding with all codecs, etc. All MRG and MRGL are configured on all devices and SIP Trunks.
Below is an example of a call that is connected with the current setup:

    PM-HO-VG-01#

    Hi Manish,
    Again, excellent feedback. Much appreciated.
I will try the commands suggested above and see if I can get DTMF to work correctly while interworking H.323 and SIP.
But my ultimate goal is to have SIP all way from the CUCM to the CUBE and from the CUBE to the ITSP.
If I enable SIP Early Offer with MTP on the CUCM going to the CUBE, all SIP Invite sent from the CUCM to the CUBE uses G.729r8 as the codec and once the call is established using G.729r8 should the ITSP reply with that codec, the call succeed and I am able to see an active MTP session using G.729 when I issue the command # show sccp connections.
One thing that I saw is that my ITSP love so much sending G.729br8 most of the times, so even if using SIP EO with MTP on the SIP Trunk to the CUBE, when I sent my INVITE out from the CUCM to the CUBE using G.729r8, specially on call center numbers such as 0800 numbers, you will see that the call established but the codec being negotiated is G.729br8 which is voice only (missing DTMF).
I will be doing some intensive test again later on this week and will send the logs.
Here is my question to both of you:
Which is the best way of having a proper SIP to SIP setup all the way that will not pose any problem?
Do I have to enable Early Offer on the SIP Profile used by the CUBE SIP Trunk or should I use the normal Standard SIP Profile? Do I need to enable MTP on my CUBE SIP Trunk or not?
From the CUBE point of view, I have a voice class codec that support G.729r8 or G.729br8 and the DTMF Relay method supported by the ITSP is RFC 2833.
I will send more logs for each scenario. I think that we are getting close to the resolution of this problem.
Thanks again for your support fellows.

  • CUBE - DTMF Interworking between SIP INFO and RFC2833

    Hi all,
After some testing I noticed that when the cube receives dtmf via SIP INFO it doesn't translate them into rfc2833 on the other side. This happens when the incoming INVITE advertises both SIP INFO and RFC2833.
When the incoming INVITE advertises only SIP INFO then it does the translation to RFC2833 and sends the digits via RTP on the outgoing interface.
CUBE supports both RFC2833 and SIP INFO as it advertises both methods in it's sip messages. Is this the expected behaviour ?
IOS is 15.1(3)T1. CUBE is running on a 3945 router.
I have found bug CSCuh65102 which seems to be a match. Can somebody confirm this ?

    Hi,
    Please check the following bug
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCtj93573/?reffering_site=dumpcr
CUBE not processing DTMF SIP INFO to RFC 2833 upstream to Network
You can try an upgrade to 15.1(3)T4 or higher and check if the issue is resolved.

  • Migration to CUBE and SIP

    Hi all,
I will be migrating from MGCP PRI over to SIP in the coming month and was trying to find out if I can use my 3945 to do both the CUBE and the PRI gateway functions at the same time while I'm doing the migration. I can always revert to an old 2811 if needed, but was wondering if it was possible.
CUCM version is 8.6 and router IOS is 15.0(1r)M16,

I will have the license before I start. Thanks muchly for the answer... there may be more questions coming!

  • Need help for ACL and NAT for VoIP

    Dear experts
I configure my PBX server to work with one VoIP provider. When I put the server in blank network, mean that without VLANs.
The IP PBX server can register to the VoIP provider system normally and I can make call out and receive calls normally.
However, when I put the PBX behind the Cisco router with some configuration. The PBX cannot register with the VoIP provider system.
Eventhough I can receive calls from outside but can not make a call from inside to outside, because of the PBX cannot register.
Could you please help me to point out what is wrong with my Cisco router configuration.

You really don't want to use NAT with SIP. Odds are it won't work. This is because SIP embeds hostnames/IP Addresses inside the packets, and standard NAT does not look inside packets.
If you want a NAT-type functionality for SIP, you need something called a session border controller. Look up Cisco CUBE

  • SIP ALG feature queries

I have few queries related to SIP ALG feature.
    - Is SIP ALG(NAT) and SIP inspection(inspect sip) dependent on each other? Do we need to enable both features on a router? Or are they independent?
My understanding is both are separate features and SIP ALG make sure it open up doors on NAT for any incoming connections from outside using the ports negotiated. And SIP inspection(the 'inspect sip' command) can be added for security purposes to make sure the router when acting as a firewall dynamically allows ports for traversal.
Please correct if my understanding is correct.
    - Why do docs/discussions mention SIP ALG feature (enabled by default) breaks communication(one way/disconnects)? Can someone illustrate why would this feature result in a call breaking?
    - Is there a difference in these two features in the way it is implemented on an ASA vs routers?
Would be grateful if someone could help on my queries. Tried searching in internet but didn't find clear info.
    Thanks,
    Karthic

    Hello,
It has been always supported on the ASA platform. You just need to turn on the SIP inspection.

  • Enabling the sip/alg

    Hi
I am looking to use a softphone from a third party software and for that  I have just purchased a new BT Home Hub 3 in the hope that it would work (I had BT Home Hub 2 and was told to buy the Home Hub 3) but unfortunately it doesn't.
I was told that ONLY BT can disable my sip/alg and for that I phone the Technical support about 6 times and nobody seems to know what I am talking about. Now, I am with a second router and I cannot get what I am looking for, I am so frustrated.
Does anyone know how I could get the sip/alg disabled?
    Many thanks,
    Karine

You should be able to run it on either. If you have a choice, it would probably be better to run it on the upstream router. There are some things with SIP that aren't supported with the NAT ALG when the SIP is originated and fixed on the same router. One of these things I can name off hand is the 'sip bind' command which isn't supported on the same box.
It's still very possible to run it on the same box, however. But the SIP ALG doesn't require any information from CME to work properly.

    Eric,
This is a command to disable NAT ALG for SIP on IOS routers.
On ASA you can do similar by removing SIP protocol inspection.
If in doubt check the command references, both ASA and IOS versions are available online.
