Cube spin transitions create gaps I can't seem to close

Hi,
I'm using cube spin transitions for the closing credits. I'm stuck with three different clips having gaps between the spin and the next credit, and no amount of control + g in the timeline gaps, no amount of snapping, has been able to push the two clips together with this transition. I am using other transitions in other parts of my movie, and have not had any trouble. Does anyone have any other ideas as to what next to try? I suspect that the trouble is with the type of files I'm using for the credits. I'm connecting .psd files with mov files (from LiveType) and using the cube spin transition between them. I know that these have alpha channels and so need to be on a higher line in the timeline than the rest of the movie. But obviously I'm missing something.

I think I am cheating when I say that I put transitions on both the endings of one clip, and on the beginning of the next clip for full cube turning.

That link describes changing the in/out points when dealing I think with the middle clip of three clips. I tried the technique but when I put the mouse (with that tool selected) over my clip in the timeline and dragged eithe rway, it only allowed me to start the clip earlier and with that only for a second or two. (It's possible my clip starts only 1 or 2 seconds earlier so I can understand that) but it won't allow me to start the clip later. I want to start it about 15 seconds later. Right now I'm only dealing with two clips with a dissolve transition between them until I figure this out. Also, if I change the in point of the clip I don't want the out to change. I realize that if I start in the inpoint later in the clip and the out point of the clip doesn't change then the over lenghth of the clip will be shorter and that theoretically everything to the right of the in point I'm adjusting should adjust left in the timeline. Is there a way to do this?
If I was clear, ignore this but as an example, I have a 10 second clip to start my timeline, then a dissolve transition into a 20 second clip. Now the timeline has a total of 30 seconds of video. I'd like to start the second clip 5 seconds later without affecting the out point. So if I do this the first clip will still be 10 seconds but the second clip will now be 15 seconds and the timeline will go from 30 to 25. (rather than staying at 30 and having the out point of the second clip adjust by 5 seconds)

I can't seem to close the screen on my new MacBook Pro with ext montitor

I have a new MacBook Pro with a Samsung T240 through the DVI link. I can see my desktop on the external monitor when the laptop screen is open, but if I close it the computer goes to sleep and I cannot see anything on the T240.
I have the Bluetooth keyboard and the Bluetooth mouse. The mouse also deactivates until I manually browse for it after I wake the computer up by opening the screen.
I know I should be able to keep the display closed but how do I do this? Thanks!

Let the laptop sleep, then hit a key on the keyboard or wiggle the mouse to wake it up.

I can't seem to "close" my documents on MSoft Word with AppleScript!

I have tons of documents open on MSoft Word and wish to close some of them. Luckily, those that I wish to close all start with the word "book", so I was thinking I could actually automate that with AppleScript hence avoid closing them one by one.
I wrote the following code:
tell application "Microsoft Word"
count (document)
          set countresult to result
          repeat with incrementValue from 1 to countresult
                    if name of document incrementValue starts with "book" then
activate document
close document
                    end if
          end repeat
end tell
To my surprise, it didn't work!
I got the following under "Replies", which showed that AppleScript did indeed try to close the document that starts with "book":
tell application "Microsoft Word"
count every document of current application
--> 6
get name of document 1
--> "book_mac_OS_X_and_iOS_internals.htm"
activate
close document
get name of document 2
--> "applicable books.htm"
get name of document 3
--> "What Do You Want Homespace to Do.htm"
get name of document 4
--> "URL_repository_for_outcomes.htm"
get name of document 5
--> "SYNTHESIS - History a Step Back.docx"
get name of document 6
--> "SYNTHESIS - History a Step Back.docx"

But when I went back to Word, I still saw the document there!
I actually added an additional line (I didn't include the code in that which I pasted here) asking to count the number of documents in Word AFTER the so-called "close", and the number remains 6.
Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Hi,
The quickest way to do this (tested with OS 10.8.2, MS Word 2011) is in one line:
tell application "Microsoft Word" to close every document whose name begins with "book"
The reason why your script doesn't work is that you aren't specifying to Word which document you want it to close.
So, changing one line ought to do it:
close document incrementvalue -- instead of "close document"
But... when you close a document, you change the document count. Document 2 becomes document 1, document 3 becomes document 2 etc. So eventually you'd get a message saying "The object you are trying to access doesn't exist".
Because of this, if you want to do it in a repeat loop, you have to work backwards:
tell application "Microsoft Word"
set doc_count to count documents
repeat with x from doc_count to 1 by -1
if name of document x begins with "book" then close document x
end repeat
end tell

Cube Spin Transiton Shows Horizonal Blue and White Lines through out Poss BUG?

Don't know if this is a bug but I am seeing a 2 to 5 pixel Blue Line (the same colour as the CTI, CYAN) on the Cube Spin Transition when in use in Premiere Pro CC.
I am on 8.0.1.
I also notice that it appears on the renders and exported material.
Original Sequences are HDV 50i 1440x1080 and abit of 1980 x 1080 @29.97 MP4 Files taken from a Sanyo XACTI Camera.
It is visable when both playing back and scrubbing or parking the CTI inbetween the 2 clips, I am also seeing a White Line not as think at times on the left side of the Transition.
It looks like the Enable Overscan Transition setting that I used to have in EDIUS, where the default settings where set for 3% Overscan and had to be set to 0% for Transitions.
I am using an ASUS 760GTX 4GB Card with MPE On.
Just wondering if there was a quick fix before I go though and have replace this transition with a similar one, though have used it 30+ times in this project so far, am gonna have alook out see if I can see a free Cube Spin/Advance Type Transition on the internet to use as I purposely chose this on
as it fits in well.
anyway, I noticed this Line Appearing thoughout the editing process and thought that it was like Premiere Pro way of tell me that the transition had begun, like the show end of media indicator and not though that it would actually show in the final exports on the render, even on the downscale it shows when rendered to MPEG-2 DVD.
I saw another post on this on here but that dates back to CS 5.5.
I have attached a few grabs to show you. have to look very closely or download them as on whit background, but on the first there is a very thin white line and on the left of the frame and you will see the cyan line on the right a bit thicker
The First one is the very start of the transition, where the CTI hits the 1st Frame of the Transition
. Not on the left a Thin White Line and as Described on the Right the Cyan Slithly Thicker, Looks to be Same or Simialr Colour to The CTI.
Then as the transitions moves, though, the left white line disappears and you have the right Cyan Line Showing all through the transition, until it is completed.
As say, if there is a simple fix, then it would be appreciated so save having to alter all of the existing ones, as I say, kinda like the Cube Spin.

Appols if the attached images are too big, my fault, not used to posting images, anyways, if you click on each image to show full screen then you can see the lines better.
Anyway, anyone know a free one I can add in that works well?

Can anyone help me close this window in Safari?

I can't seem to close this window out in Safari. Everytime I restart Safari it opens all of my previously opened windows. I can't seem to acess or empty my cache to start fresh and my menu options are mostly faded out. Can someone tell me how I can start Safari over and open a new window by default instead of having it open an old session up?

Cube Spin Video transition behavior

I see that the cube spin video transition behaves in an odd way. I was wondering if there was a way to alter it.
Here is the behavior:
(example created for clarity)
Clip A (the 1st clip) is nothing but frames (30fps) of a big letter A.
Clip B (the 2nd clip) is nothing but frames (30fps) of a big letter B.
When a cube spin video transition is inserted between them:
As the cube begins to spin to the right you see the letter A on the face that is leaving you as you would expect.
As you begin to see the coming side, it oddly also has the letter A that then changes to the letter B.
Sometimes the leaving A side also changes to the letter B, but not always.
Is it possible to get a behavior where the leaving side is always A and the coming side is always B?
I have the transition centered on +0.
Frame blend and hold do not seem to affect this.

You are correct.
Enough footage needs to be left before your in-point and after your out-point that looks like you want.
Then the transitions work fine.

Changing cube spin direction for multiple dissolves

Can't seem to figure out how to change multiple cube spins on time line from right to left direction . . in other words save the left as a favorite. I change it to left and then tried to copy, duplicate, save as a favorite but it always defaults to right direction.
I'm sure I'm missing something here that will become obvious when replies come in.

Once you setup the cube spin, drag that spin to the Browser. It should remain as you've set it to be. Then drag it from there to another transition.

after creating a keynote can I convert it to a powerpoint to show on my company systems?

Some tips:
Lots of builds and transitions messes up the PPT file. Conversations are pretty much a waste of time for anyone serious about presentations in Keynote. They'll always look better in Keynote.
I have read that text box borders messes up the PPT export. Remove them before export: you can take a screenshot of them before you delete them, and then drag them into the respective slides in PPT.
For those with literally zero transitions and builds, export to PDF. Simple and easy. Or, export as images and then use those images as slides in PPT.
For those of us with transitions and builds (all of us I presume), export to a quicktime movie. My favorite option. This way, it'll play on pretty much any computer, you won't have to recreate the pres in PPT, and it's more professional. Who wants to open up a PPT file and then be stuck in the PPT program? A movie file is just better all around. Unless you need others to use the file to present to people in a conference room, you might be stuck recreating your Keynote in PPT. And, don't be afraid to import this movie into iMovie or FCP to do some additional editing.
Anyway, my view is converting to PPT is a waste of time for those with lots of builds, transitions, and text effects like kerning, text box borders, etc.

Why the metadata created with EM can't be found in JDeveloper

I created some dimensions and measures. then put them in a cube.And I created a measure folder and added the measures .
I do all the task with EM. And when I use JDeveloper to build a crosstable, only the demo measures and dimensions are in the available box . None of mine was there!
Any one can tell me if there any thing necessary I haven't done ?

You need to do 2 things:
- make sure you've applied the 9.2.0.4.1 Oracle patch
- run the cwm2_olap_metadata_refresh.mr_refresh stored proc. Make sure you're connected as OLAPSYS. You need to run this after any OLAP metadata change.

i use owb create 3 dimensions and 1 cube,and deploy on target schema successfully.
and export the metadata to eex file, and import eex file into discoverer administrator ,when create workbook i can see the cube created with owb;
then i selected ORACLE BI DISCOVERER option to connect target_schema,so i can see my cube and dimension;
but when i selected ORACLE BI DISCOVERER FOR OLAP option to connect target_schema, login in successful , but when i create my workbook ,cann't see my cube and demension
why for this,and how to do it,so i can see them?

There are three ways to deploy a multi-dimensional model and the final model selection depends on the database options you have purchased and they tools you have at your displosal:
relational access - You can define relational cubes and dimensions within OWB and deploy these to your target schema. The dimensions are implemented as query re-write objects and can be viewed within the view USER_DIMENSIONS. The data relating to the dimension is stored within a simple relational table, either as a snowflake or star schema format. The cube object does not really exist as such but is implemented as fact table. Typically, access to this type of implementation is via Discoverer and you need to create a Discoverer EUL to view the deployed tables. Within Discoverer you will not see the dimension or cubes listed but you will see tables and/or views relating to your deployed schema.
The Discoverer Bridge will create the eex/EUL file to install the schema within Discoverer Administrator. However, you must use Discoverer Plus/Viewer with the relational connection details.
As an FYI the management of Discoverer EULs is integrated within OWB 10gR2.
OLAP models - OWB also supports the deployment a schema as either a relational OLAP model or within an analytic workspace (this creates a MOLAP model). The OLAP deployment can be viewed only using Discoverer OLAP, however, management of the schema does not require an EUL and the administration is managed by Discoverer Administrator. All the administration is managed by OWB. To access a multi-dimensional model using Discoverer OLAP you must first run the OLAP bridge from within OWB. This will deploy all the required metadata for Discoverer OLAP to connect to your schema.
However, I would recommend you urgently upgrade to OWB10gR2 as this provides additional tuning options for the OLAP data model that are not present in your current version of OWB 10.1.0.4. Unfortunately, with your current OWB version building an OLAP model is a two stage process, a form of data staging. You need to create a relational target schema first and then replicate that target schema within an OLAP model. OWB10gR2 allows you to map data from a source object directly to a multi-dimensional object with no need to stage the data.
If you cannot upgrade at this point my suggestion would be to use OWB to design the target relational schema and then use Analytic Workspace Manager (AWM) to design your OLAP schema for Discoverer OLAP access. AWM will provide you with all the tools for tuning and managing your OLAP model within a 10gR2 database schema.
Once you have upgraded to OWB10gR2 you can stop using AWM as all the tuning features are within OWB.

Spin transitions and ripple dissolve are not rendering?

Hi,
Most of my transitions are rendering normally in final cut pro 7, the strange thing is there are a few that don't work!!!!
If I add a spin transition or ripple dissolve I can see them working fine when I scrub across the timeline, when I do a render they just don't render properly and when you play back the rendered file you just get straight video switching to the next?
Can anybody help?

I had a similar thing recently.
For me the issue was that I'd put text on the clip it was transitioning too - as it can't render both the transition and the text it ignores the transition (it shows it's doing this by greying it out in the project browser).
To get round it just drag the text a couple of seconds into the clip - essentially remove the overlap.

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
