Cubes in Multicube

Dear Gurus...
1.Wht is the sap recommended Max and Optimum no. of cubes for a Multicube ?
2.Is there any performance aspect in deciding the no. of cubes for a multicube ? If so, can you list out. Is there any OSS notes regarding the same ?

Hi Kanson,
SAP recommends 10 cubes as a maximum number of base cubes for a MultiProvider. We have a scenario that has to use 11, and it works without any issues.

Newly added Keyfigures to the cube is not shown in Bex designer

Hi,
We have added some new keyfigures to the base cube and multicube in our dev system. In multicube we correctly assigned the "source" for the new infoobjects.
We are able to see the new fields in the query also, but the same we have transported to GWP system.
We are able to see the new infoobjects in the cube and multicubel. but the report we are not able to see the same.
When we execute the query, it is throwing error because of missing fields.,
Can you please help me here, My system version is Bi 7.01 Ehp1 sp3

Some times it happens this way. Once again you save the existing query, close the entire applications and then try to change the query. Hopefully it shows up the new fields now.

Transferring the Cube with activation of some Nav Attribute

Hi , In Production system, I have a sales multicube which has data coming in from sales overview and sales history cube. Data is loaded from mARCH 2006 to Till date every day in 2 basic cubes "sales overview" and "sales history"
Question 1:I need to now avtivate "ship to party - postal code" which is there in two basic cubes but not checked so I now select the check mark in nav attribute "ship to party - postal code" for both the cube in development system. and same in mULTICUBE should I Transport 2 basic Cubes, and Multicube and All effected Queries or just the query in which change is requested.
Question #2 : How to reload all the data which is right now there in Production, If I transport the cube with changes from DevLOPMENT to Production will the data be deleted in Production. All Data is feeding in Cube from ODS so Can I just Transport the cubes in Production and Use Update data to data target in ods. will the data be reloaded in cubes by doing that. Data loaded is delta so please let me know asap what will be best way to make the change and also save the data that is right now there in cubes in Production. since i have to transport it from dev no changes allowed in production.Hope you will reply back soon. Hardeep,
    You need to transport the Sales Overview cube, Slaes History, Multicube cube and modified Queries.
    when ever you make changes like Making Navigational there is no need to delete the data. you just do one transport.

RSPLAN - Issue to acces a Cube on Planning Modeler

Hi All,
I have SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW access . I could access RSPLAN and when I click Start Modeler, I could see the Info Provider Selection.
When I click start , not displaying real time(transactional) cubes or Multicubes. Checked InfoProvider technical name, Infoprovider description, Last changed by..but no object displaying.
Is there any portal role I need include??

first check if the BI Java to ABAP connection is configured properly: Run the support desk tool as described in SAP note <a href="http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/937697">937697</a>. Everything needs to be "green".
Secondly, run function module RSPLSIP_INFOPROV_GETLIST with
I_MAXROWS                       0
I_SEARCHCRIT                    K
I_SEARCHSTR                     *
If it returns the right list of InfoProviders, it's a Java issue. If not, it's an ABAP issue. -> Open a customer message.

Problems creating aggregation levels over a Multiprovider

Hi experts,
When I create a aggregation level over a multiprovider the system returns an error " Infoprovider XX cannot be used for definition". I have read other threads with the same question and its solutions. I have checked my system and all is correct. The multiprovider has linked five infoproviders, one as real time.
Any Idea?
Please, it is very urgent to solve this.

I have checked the identification of chars and kf. The realtime cube has five chars and a kf. All of them are assigned with all cubes witch are linked with the multiprovider.
I have tried by removing the realtime cube and the system shows the same error message. I have also tried by reactivating the cubes and multicube.
Any idea?

Text missing for 0calmonth2

Hello Gurus,
i am unable to c text for 0calmonth2 in the query outputit shows like 10 11 12 instead of text october or oct
i have search the forum for the issue. and accdly check the 0calmonth2 Bex dispaly property as text in RSD1. and also check the Provider-specific properties of the infoobject -> display property as text
and even in the query designer i can c the display property as text
but wen i c the output od the query it shows only key values
and in the infoobject properities in report i just gives 2 options key and none...
can anyone tell me what other config is missing here ?

Right click on your query --> calender month --> display as --> name .
otherwise check in transaction rsdcube chose tab "Time Characteristics"
then: Extras->structure specific Infoobject Properties.
or
just check the cube or multicube on which report is based.
go the cube-> enviroment-> structure specific propert...->
here check the "display" option
check whether for that infoobject if text is there or not make it text
now you will get the text option in the bex

I try to activate the cube with "only necessery objects" option and I get an error during simulatiof of an installation:
"Exception 'An exception with the type CX_SY_REF_IS_INITIAL oc' in progrmm 'CL_RSD_MDOB_VERS"
Is this an ABAP error, or can I solve it myself without ABAP knowledge?

the OSS notes I already found related to this issue for previous releases are not longer applicable (the code is already implemented in the classes/methods)
I'm having this issue for every cube and multicube I want to install from the business content.

Qeries on MultiProviders Vs Underlying InfoProviders

Folks,
Need your help in finding what the best practice is on this topic.
We are getting ready to begin developing queries and we were debating whether as a standard across the project we should develop our queries on MultiProviders Vs developing them directly under each underlying InfoCube.
Sometime back I had read a SAP document where they were recommending developing your queries on multiproviders all the time so that if the underlying infocube is impacted, the query definition is not. I question this because when the infocube is undergoing maintenance or impacted for whatever reason the multiprovider will also be deactivated - is it not? Please correct me if I am wrong.
I just did a search on BWEXPERTONLINE and there is a document that recommends developing your queries all the time on the infocube to save one extra table join.
What do you folks think is the best practice and why? If you can point me any good links that will be great. If you think one way is better than the other please substantiate with the reason.

HI abdul;
That's true if you create queries from cube itself instead of using multiproviders, you will have less tables but there are situation that you want to use the multiproviders to create queries instead of the cube. For example if you have a cube with plan data and another cube with actual data, This year vs last year..or something like this, if you have a query from multiproviders it one query will do the comparation or variance..whatever you need. But if you design the queries from each cube you may have to create the workbook with two in one, or have users with two different queries.
In your question of maintainace of cube vs multicube; if you have added some fields into your cube you have to maintain your multiproviders also in the char 'identification' and keyfigure 'selection'.

Query is not executing on Multiprovider.

Could any one clarify me. I have added a infocube to the existing multiprovider.I had taken all the selection in the identification tab like chars,time chars and keyfigs.
When i am looking the data via listschema its showing the data .How ever when i generated a new query on the multiprovider with new keyfigure which i added via new cube is not displaying.
Evry thing is ok up to cube level i checked with a query on cube too.
How ever ther is a problem with multiprovider.
I dint get what xact reason behind this.Could any one help me in this aspect.
When i am trying to execute the other queries on the same multiprovider they are working fine.
I had gone through some of the earlier postings too. but i didnt get the answer..
When i am trying to execute the newly generated query its not working ..and taking more than 1 hr even the data is not displaying.
Any suggestions would be appreciable.

Are you filtering by any char not contained in your new cube or by any char tha althoug contained in your cube the ID is not marked in multiprovider definition?
Check if any modification to any cube in multicube had deactivated the multicube.
Try to do a query only for your new cube, filtering by infoprovider, the data must be there.

Virtual cube with services read from Multicube?

Hello All.
We have logically partitioned the Balance Sheet cube 0FIGL_C01 into 3 new cubes. Now I found that I also had to partition the Virtual cube 0FIGL_VC1 into 3 new virtual cubes( I have copied the standard function module to change the data origin).
Then I have included 4 virtual cubes in one single multicube.
When I run a query on the multicube, I get a short Dump.
My questions are:
1.- has anyone done the same logical partioning for balance sheet before?
2.- Is it possible to use a multicube as source of data for a Virtual cube with services, using the balance sheet virtual cube function module?

a basic cube can only be a source of data for virtual cube or for a multicube.
all cubes should have atleast one char common when u add them in a multicube.

About Multicube vs a giant cube with Aggr

i got this question, whay is the best decition about design,
1- create a cube per year that is feed from ECC , for example cube data 2011 and cube data2012 and above this one, a Multicube, then the report
2- Create a Giant Cube with aggregates

I would go for option one but still have aggregates.
Option 1 actually splits your data in different cubes. Cubes with less data is always favorable for administrative work and report runtime.
Like compression, roll up, creation and deletion of Index is easier in small cubes. Moreover if there is any issue in data level you can always check from smaller cubes fast. If the cube is very large Display Data is a pain.
One more point is , once you load historical data in different cubes, you do not need to touch them because they are already frozen. You just need to take care of the cube which contains current data.
Aggregates on the other hand takes extra space on the database. Administration of aggregates is also required . Like daily roll up adds to your data load time. More over aggregates are very specific to query. One aggregate can not satisfy all the query.
It's better to have different cubes and then you can have small aggregates on those cubes. This would make your administration easy and query response time will be faster.
PS: If multiprovider has different cubes for 2010,2011 and 2012 even if the query only wants 2012 data , backend system would read 2010 and 2011 cubes also. You can have a filter on 0INFOPROV in query level to prevent that.

Multicube and Cube and Cache

Hi All,
I have a issue with Multicubes and Cubes.
A query has been copied from a cube on the multicube.For this query on the cube, cache memory can be used. For the query on the Multicube cache can not be used.
(We can find these details using transaction RSRT)
Also the technical details find out that there exist a VKF for the query on the Mcube but not on the cube.

Remote Cube on top of Multicube - possible?

Quick question: I have two BW systems (System "A" and System "B").
In BW System "A" I have Multicubes. In System "B" I have basic Cubes.
Is it possible to link MultiCubes from System "A" with basic Cubes from System "B"?
Scenario 2:
Is it possible to select in a RemoteCube (Connected with two BW systems) in which Cube the BW should select data (I know that in a MultiCube I can restrict to an InfoProvider).

You can create Multi Provider only on the objects:
Base Cube,ODS,InfoSet, Remote-Cubes and InfoObjects. NOT on Multi Providers.
You can create Remote Cube on BW "A" based on Data Source of a Base-Cube in BW System "B". You can use this Remote cube to create Multi Provider.

Multicube Keyfigure - to be selected from different Basis-Cube Keyfigures

Dear experts,
please give your advice how to do this:
Multiprovider based on 2 InfoCubes. InfoCube A containing keyfigure Z_KFA and InfoCube B containing keyfigure Z_KFB.
In the Multiprovider only 1 Keyfigure, containing both valued for Z_KFA and Z_KFB is needed.
So far only one basiscube with its keyfigure is shown for selection.
How can a keyfigure in MultiProvider be selected that it conatins both keyfigures of the basiscubes?

Hi Angie:
If you want to include the 2 Key Figures from your InfoCubes on 1 Key Figure on your Multiprovider you need to use the same Technical name for the Key Figures.
So you need to either...
- Rename Z_KFA (from your InfoCube A) to Z_KFB.
- Rename Z_KFB (from your InfoCube B) to Z_KFA.

Cube loaded with data, but unavailable in the query

Hello everyone,
Someone can help me?
I created a new Cube CO-PA for the year 2010, and loaded with data this year. To make sure that the data were correct did a ListCube, with all the filter equal to the query, and indeed the data is loaded properly for this year. And when i run the query with data from the years 2008 and 2009 show me data in my report, but when I run the query for 2010, the query displays an error message saying that "no data".
How is it possible to have the correct data in the Cube, and i can not view the data in the query?
Note: The request in the cube is available to report
