CUC 7.0 license violation on subscriber
Hi All,
I have A/A Unity Connection 7.0 Pub and Sub. On the Pub the license is the VM subscribers, ports, etc. On the Sub the license is ports etc, minus the vm subscribers. As per Cisco docs I have the Subscriber as the primary and Publisher as the secondary in the cluster. However, after 60 days my MWI lights would not work and the cause of it is that the Subscriber has license violations. The error I get is that it thinks that I have a demo license on the subscriber. By moving the primary to the Publisher all is good, except my redundant Sub is offline. If I restart both servers all is good.
Has anyone encountered this issue? I am waiting for TAC to give me an answer, so far they are telling me to reboot the servers, which I did last night. Is there a known bug on 7.0?
Thanks.
Hi,
Sounds like you're hitting http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCsw75701
CSCsw75701 Bug Details
No License data sync across cluster without reboot/lic service restart
Symptom:
When license data is changed on a server in a failover pair, the license data is not synched between servers until a reboot is done.
Conditions:
Seen with Cisco Unity Connection 7.x when license information changes on one server but not another.
Fixed with Connection 7.0(1)ES35 and higher, and 7.0(2).
Workaround:
Login to the CLI and reboot each server by typing command "utils system restart"
If you're going to be spending time upgrading, I would highly recommend moving away from 7.0 train and upgrading to the latest 7.1(3). 7.1(3) is even having ESes written every 2 weeks to address new issues. 7.1(3) will save you from future headaches...
Hope that helps,
Brad

License violation has been detected on the InterScan for CSC SSM
We are receiving this everyday at 1 AM, but there is no traffic on the network at this time. What can I do on the ASA or CSC to find out where and what this traffic is?
There are currently 559 active nodes while you only have 500 seats of license. 59 more seats of license is required. This issue has confused us for a while too… Here’s the deal:
Even after the license violation the traffic for all the users will be scanned by the module. Despite the error message that you are seeing, the CSC will not drop connections due strictly to license violations. It is only a warning at this point.
With a high number of nodes, it is likely that you will overwhelm the CSC processing capacity. If the users are overly aggressive in their connections, they can easily max out the capacity.
Here's a high level link:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/ps6120/products_white_paper0900aecd805c3cd6.shtml
Can you increase the license? It only goes up to 1,000.
How can you tell what the count is? Use the following command from the ASA CLI:
show csc node-count yesterday
Here's the link:

I bought CS4 in 09, and it says there's a discount subscription rate for cs customers. If I subscribed with this plan, would I be able to use my 2 CS4 licenses, as well as the 2 CC licenses? I have multiple computers at home. Thank you.
Hello,
please see >>> http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html here >>> How many computers can I install on
I quote: You may install software on up to two computers. These two computers can be Windows, Mac OS, or one each.
If you install on a third computer, it will request you to de-activate on the other two computers. You can then reactivate one of the previous two computers, and use Creative Cloud apps on it.
What concerns your CS4, that's no problem to use them further on, like I do with my Adobe Web premium CS4.

"Hardcore Java" License Violation?
I've been reading the book "Hardcore Java" through the O'Reilly Safari site, and in section 2.4 the author says "The code in Example 2-13 is pasted directly from the JDK source." The example in question contains a chunk of the java.util.Collections souce code. My question - isn't publishing this code in a book a violation of the Sun Community Source License? The SCSL prohibits redistribution under most circumstances, and I believe this would be one of them.
I ordinarily would not even raise this issue, but reading this book has been such an enormously frustrating experience that the author's misappropriation of someone else's code rubbed me the wrong way.
One other note on this book - any technical publication will have errors, but there is a problem when fundamental conceptual misunderstandings are liberally distributed throughout a book like they are in this one. Very disappointing that this got out the door at O'Reilly!OK. I have to post this here. I was looking at the
Hardcore Java example chapters again and poking around
O'Reilly.com and I found this article by the author.
http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2004/04/28/hardcorej
va.html
In section 3 he states "Every parameter to a method
should be declared final unless the parameter is
intended to be an out or in-out parameter."
Do I even need to point out what is wrong with this?Duh. He doesn't say which method. ;-) -
Unity 7.0 Unified Messaging Licensing Problem
We have just purchased an upgrade from Unity 4.0(5) to Unity 7.0(2) and a new server.
On the old server we have 310 ordinary voicemail only subscriber licenses as well as 310 unified messaging subscriber licenses and we are currently using only the 310 voicemail subscriber licenses.
On the new server we have bought upgrade licenses and the new license is showing 310 unified messaging subscriber licenses but 0 voicemail only subscriber licenses.
We are therefore getting an licensing violation message immediately after installing Unity on the new server and importing the new license as the server is saying that it is using 1x voicemail only subscriber license when we have none available.
How do I get the server to use the unified messaging license instead of the voicemail only license as there was no option for Unified during installation?
Is there a way to change the existing user accounts from using voicemail licenses to unified licenses please when I import them using DIRT restore or COBRAS import?
Many thanks!Hi Rob, sorry for the delayed reply I haven't logged onto here for a few weeks. I don't think we've lost any licenses.
After a nightmare with Cisco licensing we finally managed to get the correct migrated Unity 4.0 licenses for our new server. They sent them in several files for some reason, but I found a combination of 4 of them that gave the correct license count that matched the licenses on our old server.
The licenses we have on the Unity 4 system are as follows:
License Feature
Unity 4.0(5) License Files Total

Now I am trying again to upgrade this system to 7.0, but this time it's an in place upgrade as we're now on the new server hardware already.
As I understand it we just need to add the extra upgrade license to the already installed 4x Unity 4.0 licenses during the upgrade correct?
When I try this, however, it increments the license features as follows:

Unity 4.0(5) License Files

Is this the correct number of licenses that should be showing? We were only expecting to have 310 UM licenses and 32 voice ports. I also tried just using the upgrade license on it's own but this doesn't work as there are 0 "Cisco Unity Subscriber" licenses in it so we get a licensing violation error.

Re install a subscriber Call manager Version 7.1.5.30000-1
Hi all
we have a problem concern database replication between the publisher and the subscriber so we shutdown the subscriber and NOW
We need to re install a subscriber
- Do we have to take a backup from the old one and if we restore it does it makes database conflict
- Do we need to have answer file generated
- If we do not have a CD of the same version of the publisher what should we do
- Do we have to re install the license on the subscriber
ThanksHi Heba,
Although everyone has answered the question, I thought to refer to your points as well:
- Do we have to take a backup from the old one and if we restore it does it makes database conflict
- No, you dont need a DR Restore to restore a Sub.
- Do we need to have answer file generated
- No, you can install the Sub manually (ie respond to all the questions live during the isntall)
- If we do not have a CD of the same version of the publisher what should we do
- You MUST get one, if you dont have one handy, I will raise a TAC SR and request them to release it to you.
- Do we have to re install the license on the subscriber
- No, I believe all the Lic are installed on the Pub, and once the Sub has come online, you can verify that if the system needs any Node Lic. Just in case if you need anyway, request a new Lic from TAC, they should be able to issue you a Node Lic

You can buy a serial-number-licensed LR5 (not LR6 which should be available shortly) from the Products link at the bottom of every Adobe.com page:

License: Is this legal/kosher?
One of the companies I do work for has an XServe G5 with 10.4 Server installed. It runs AFP, iChat, NFS, Web, and Windows services. They want to move some of those services onto another machine for performance reasons.
Is it legal/kosher to install their 10.4 Server license onto a second machine, without a duplication of services? IOW, if I were to have the XServe running AFP and Windows services, and move all the other services onto a second computer (e.g., a mirror door G4), would that be a license violation?
My gut instinct says that it would but I would like to make sure. It's not possible to do this legally.
If puchase cost is an issue, the company might consider purchasing a 10-user version of OSX server. The 10-user limit applies only to simultaneous AFP connections. So, for load distribution the 10-user version could be made an Open Directory replica and serve iChat, NFS, Web, VPN, routing, DNS, DHCP, as well as providing a 'hot' backup for all the directory information.

Hello,
does anyone know where one can find a freely distributed licensing framework for java applications, or suggest any solution to unblock certain functionalities only for the users provided with a licence? (talking of experimental software that I developed, not minded for commerce at present status) .there are some java libraries that are free for non
commercial use but require to purchase a license for
commercial applications.yes there is. This is true also of non java software.
There is also the GPL (GNU public license) which allows you to distribute the code, but only in an open source way.
My question is : what if some one use this library in
commercial app without purchasing licence ? how can
the owner of the librairy control the use of his
work. and if you use it for commercial purposes what
will happen ?Then you have a lawsuit. The damaged party may seek compensation and potentially damages from the license violator. The license owner may also seek an injunction -

Is this license apply to Window CE ?
Hi:
Just wondering is this license apply to Window CE ?
We use the Microsoft Sample code as it is provided by Microsoft in our Window CE product, we pay Microsoft Window CE license fee for each product that we sold.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/D/F/8DFE3CE7-6424-4801-90C3-85879DE2B3DE/Platform/License.rtf
And if third part using the Microsoft sample code in open source, do we violate
GNU General Public License ?
Since we found by
BlackDuck this is a GUU General Public License violation, strange enough, any suggestion on this ?
Thanks for your help.Hello Mike,
Your issue is not related to WinForm, however I'm not so sure which one in the following forum is the right forum:

CS6 Perpetual license + use of documents across tablets & computers
Hi everyone,
I really checked for pros and cons, and I'm heading toward the renewal of my CS5.5 license into a CS6, rather than subscribing for CC...
But then I have a question.
If I have some touch apps on my tablet, and CS6 on my computer. Will I be able to push datas from one device to the other if I didn't subscribe to the CC...
Is there a way to buy for hard licenses of apps + subscrib for clouds services (but not the apps in the clouds, only the ability to share content online)...?
thanks in advanceSo long as you have an Adobe ID, you can still use the Creative Cloud file storage to transfer files, that is a service free to anyone. You don't get the same amount of space as a paying member but you get the same functionality in terms of uploading, viewing and transferring files between devices through the cloud.
Hope that helps,

Licensing options for Server 2012 Standard Edition
I am working a proposal to a new client. Currently they have a single physical server, and 15 workstations, connected to AD;
Server 2012 standard running hyper-V - evaluation (and not attached to the domain)
On it are two virtual machines -
Domain Controller 2008 32bit - license is activated.
2nd server 2008 R2 64bit - evaluation (attached to the domain)
If they purchase a 2012 Server Standard license, with 15 user cals, I should be able to activate the two unlicensed servers?
Mark Smed, NPA Network Support Technician [email protected] Northern Computer l Your trusted partner. Ph: 250.762.7753 Ext. 1803 www.northerncomputer.ca... If you make the host a domain controller and run Hyper-V you lose your "free" VM instances...
It is my understanding that you lose one of your VM instances, not both. I was led to believe that the purpose of this restriction is to prevent someone from getting a three-for-two deal on licenses, not to lock them out of guest privileges entirely.
but in you instance the host is not licensed and one of the vm's are not licensed so you still need to get a license for the host however you go about it.
This is not quite true as worded. It's true that you have to get a license for the host in general, because Windows Server licenses always apply to a specific piece of hardware, never to a virtual machine. However, it's not necessarily true that you have
to license the management operating system (I think the licensing document calls this the physical OSE, or something like that).
If you have purchased one license of Windows Server Standard 2012 or 2012 R2 non-OEM, then you are licensed to run a maximum of two virtual instances of that same server operating system version/edition or lower on a single host with up to 2 physical CPUs.
You are also allowed to run that same operating system version/edition or lower as the management operating system without purchasing an additional license as long as it runs nothing but Hyper-V Server and services needed manage/maintain its own virtual machines.
If you do anything else in the management OS that provides services to other systems (like ADDS), then one of the guest licensing privileges is lost to cover the management OS. Any OEM licensing may have its own restrictions.
For licensing questions, it is always best to contact an authorized Microsoft reseller and ask to speak to a licensing expert. They go through training specifically for this. The call is usually free. The fines for license violations most
certainly are not. "Read it on a forum" is not good audit defense.

CS4 Master Collection PN 65023349 and 65023345
According to google, this has been discussed here before, but my forum searches come up empty. I am trying to understand the difference between CS4 Master Collection part numbers 65023349 and 65023345 . Except for the stickers on the bottom, the packages are identical. And even those stickers are quite similar, except for the part and UPC numbers and a line that reads "001 DV" on one box and "001 DV RET" on the other.
If someone can explain the difference, I'd appreciate it very much.
Many thanks,
RichThere is no option to upgrade your CS4 license except to subscribe to the Creative Cloud's special first year discount plan for CS owners (Adobe: Creative, marketing, and document management solutions).
Platform swaps are only allowed for the most recent released CS software (CS6). You cannot get a Mac version license of CS4 thru Adobe since Adobe does not sell older versions and the only CS version for sale is CS6... CS4 does not qualify to get CS6 at an upgrade price.
You can purchase CS6 thru the following page: http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/cs6._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_sl_c reativesuite6.htm
