CUCM 5.1.3 - Disk/active (91%)

I have already set logging to default settings and set the high water mark to 70% on the Disk/logging partition.
Now the Active partition is full, how can I resolve this?

Symptom:
Callmanager 5.1.3 is able to backup the components to SFTP server successfully earlier, but as with the system running and the CDR records starting to build up, the backup start to fail at some stage.
Condition:
huge set of CDR/CMR files may accumulate in Preserve folders (e.g 110,000) caused a big backup.log file exceeded 1 MB(e.g 20MB)
Typical Scneario:
Customer does not want to use CAR but using third party billing server instead and CAR loader is disabled, in callmanager 5.1.3, this can result in large number of CDR/CMR accumulated in Preserve folder.
Workaround:
In 5.1.3 and later
Stopping CAR service will not stop accumulating flat CDR Files.
To clean up the CDR files temporarily to that DRS can proceed,
1. stop the CDR Agent service on all servers in the cluster, so no new CDR files will be pushed to the publisher.
2. check to make sure all the files have been pushed to the billing server(s), do the following command
ls -R /var/log/active/cm/cdr_repository/destination*
to make sure there is no symbolic link in any of the subfolders
3. Stop CDR Repository Manager, CAR Scheduler and CAR Web Service on the publisher
4. remove all the files under /var/log/active/cm/cdr_repository/preserve/ that have been accumulated. And remove all the symbolic links under /var/log/active/cm/cdr_repository/car/ with the following commands,
rm -rf /var/log/active/cm/cdr_repository/preserve/*
rm -rf /var/log/active/cm/cdr_repository/car/*
5. restart CDR Repository Manager, CAR Scheduler, CAR Web Services on the publisher.
To stop further accumulation of CDR files, start CAR Scheduler service, set the loader to schedule to continuously loading, load CDR only.
1. create a ccmadmin account if not yet in user group management on ccmadmin page
2. log in to CAR, go to System->Scheduler->CDR Load,
3. check "Continuous Loading 24/7" and "Load CDR only" boxes
4. click "update"
5. goto System->Database->Configure Automatic Database Purge,
6. set both "Min Age of Call Detail Records" and "Max Age of Call Detail Records' to 1
7. click "update"
8. go to Report Config->Automatic Generation/Alert
9. For each report, select "Disabled" status and click "Update"
Finally, restart CDR Agent service on all the servers.

1. Restart DRS Master Agent and Local Agent.
2. Delete the backup.log from location /common/drf

    FF 18.0.1 on Windows XP SP3.
    Within 1 minute of starting FF I observe constant and excessive disk activity.
    I am unable to use any other applications due to the response time.
    I have closed all tabs and disabled all plugins.
    I have just started a FF "reset to factory default", but pop-up window for "Please wait while Firefox cleans up your old data" has been running for 15 minutes.
    Any ideas?

    It sounds like you've got some other problems on your computer as well.
    Restart your PC, then try the steps at http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx#fbid=6pXkdz7T_94 to try to clean your computer up.
    After that, Try to reset Firefox again.

  • IMac 27" i7 won't turn on. No disk activity.

    Ive seen some similar dicussions here but none that are exactly like what happened to me.
    The big problem is my iMac is stone cold dead. I push the power button and nothing happens, no disk activity, no fans, no nothing. As if it had been un plugged.
    I dont know if it could be related but I was sing Boot Camp. I created the partition, it asked for the windows disk, I put it in. the iMac restarted, I got the chime and the gray screen (no apple logo). I was expecting the windows installer to start up, no luck. The iMac was on the gray screen for several minutes, then the apple logo appeared and then I got the log in window. I thought it was strange so I restarted and held down the "option" key, I got the gray screen for several minutes again. I then got the boot menu where I could see "Macintosh HD", "Bootcamp" and "Windows"(DVD). So I booted with the windows disk thinking it would start up the installer. Several minutes went by and it was still on the same screen. Then it restarted by itself, I heard the chime. Mind you, I had unplugged all the external hard drives I had and what not. So I pressed down on the touch pad to eject the windows disk. The disk ejected and the iMac got stuck on the gray screen for several minutes again. It restarted by itself. I thought I would leave it to boot all the way into Lion again. This time the gray screen didnt go away, I waited for over 20 minutes, got frustrated and pressed down on the power button for a hard reset. I powered on again, got the chime, then I got a black screen with white text saying it could not find a boot device. So I thought I would restart and hold down option key to boot from "Macintosh HD". I powered it down, and it never powered on again. That was it. No Hard drives spinning, no fans runnig, nothing.
    I checked the outlet, plugged the iMac to a different outlet, checked the power cable, etc. It all seemed fine.
    I reset the SMC, several times in fact, and nothing.
    I even opened the Memory Access Door and removed and put back the memory cards. Not sure why, but Im desperate.
    So Thats it. Im gonna take it to the apple techs but I thought I would get some comments from the community. Any ideas??? . Any help is appreciated.

    Sounds like a failed power supply. Because the machine is covered by warranty take it into your local Apple Store or AASP for service. Make sure you book an appointment first. You can try doing a SMC reset and Pram reset first but I don't think they'll work.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • "Disk Activity" monitor for multiple hard drives?

    Is there something like "Disk Activity" in the Activity Monitor utility to show which hard drive is accessed? I put a SSD in my Mac Pro but it occasionally hesitates for a few seconds as if it's accessing a file on one of the other three (slower) hard drives. I want to see a list of files that it needs that aren't on the SSD, so I can move them over and speed up my computer, or remove the extra hard drive eventually.

    Yes, it's possible.
    However for the maximum length I have not figured out.
    I haven't found a reason to go past 16 characters.

    I tried to debug using JPDA with a Tomcat 4.0.3 target container. If I am very patient it finally connects after some good minutes. After that it debugs, even if rather slow.
    However, during those minutes nothing seems to happen. CPU is low (under 5%), and there is no disk activity.
    JDK is 1.3.1_02, W95 (yes, still), 256M.
    Any ideas?

    JDK is 1.3.1_02, W95 (yes, still), 256M.JPDA is really slow in Hotspot/Classic before JDK 1.4 (it's interpreting all the bytecode vs. running it natively). Try using classic if it's available instead of hotspot, it seems to be a bit faster at debugging.
    Also, if you can, try JDK 1.4. It's JVM is MUCH faster at debugging than 1.3 is.

  • Computer unresponsive with disk activity, even when disk is USB

    Hi,
    I've always had issues with responsiveness with Linux when there is disk activity (several distro's, same hardware), whereas a Windows XP installation reacts very snappily. When I have a torrent client open, Mplayer keeps hanging a few times a minute (even more often when the download is going fast (2 MB/s)).
    Recently I migrated to ext4 in the hopes that would fix it, but it didn't. It's also not something as simple as a DMA issue (because it's SATA). Disk throughput is about 80 MB/s, which is OK.
    Anyway, currently, I'm performing this on a USB disk:
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc1 bs=10M
    And even then the computer is almost unusable, which it shouldn't be, because the internal disks are not used for this. And some time back when I was copying an AVI to a USB stick, it was utterly unusable.
    Maybe it's a driver issue, because I can't imagine the normal schedulers being so horrible, but I can't say.
    My disk controller can't be accessed with AHCI (there is no 'native' option in the BIOS), yet NCQ is enabled:

    Anybody know what might be causing this?

    I recently tried to play around with the schedulers and I found out that using "deadline" for my internal drives, "cfq"  for my optical drive and "noop" for everything else. I tried copying a load of small files on my USB flashdrive while playing a movie from the optical drive and the system felt very responsive.
    I've been playing some more, and you're right in that it seems that with the internal disks at deadline, the system is a lot more responsive. Previously, I put the external disk I was zeroing at deadline too, but that (I know now) made it worse again.
    I run a 3.2-rc5 kernel which seems to help considerably though.
    Has there been any specific change in that kernel to cause that?
    BTW, I noticed that the NCQ queue on your drives is of 0 length, try setting it o 31 like this (as root).
    I always wondered about the NCQ queue. In pages about NCQ that I found, the dmesg also reported a queue of 0. I just always figured it meant how many commands it currently had, being zero at boot time.
    When I do "cat /sys/block/sda/device/queue_depth" it always says one, regardless of disk activity.

    after kernel loading (just before getty starts) i notice extremely high disk activity for ~20 seconds for no reason. I think that it is something related to systemd and mount services.
    When i set rootfs to read-only in syslinux kernel parameters then the system starts normally without delay. So, i think that something is constantly writing to (or checking?) my hard disk right after boot sequence.
    I'm using  kernel 3.7.9-1-ARCH.

    It was a problem with preload and its configuration.. I removed it and everything went back to normal!

    Thanks for your reply.  I don't use itunes so that couldn't be it.  Reading about Little Snitch and Hands Off, however,  educated me about the data harvesting in many apps and that when buying from the AppStore one will more likely get Apps with benign data harvesting.

  • Constant CPU and Disk Activity

    I just upgraded my MBP from Tiger to Leopard, and also upgraded from trial to full .Mac account, so I now have an iDisk for the first time.
    I have iStat Menus installed and where, before the upgrades, the CPU graph showed a very low level of activity (almost zero) when the computer was idle, it now looks like a picket fence, with spikes reaching almost to the top of the graph. The disk activity graph exactly matches the CPU graph with regular spikes, which occur about very 7-8 seconds.
    I opened Activity Monitor, and the highest usage switches between 'Sync Server' (with a value of anything from 2 to 9) and 'kernel-task' (with a value of around 2.5). Something called 'mds' sometimes pops up to the top (with values of 2-3). It appears the culprit is 'Sync Server'. I've tried iDisk sync set to 'Manually', and also with it turned off altogether, but it makes no difference.
    Does anyone know what's going on here and, more importantly, how to get my MBP to relax again.

    I'm resurrecting this question because the problem still exists. Restarting the computer always stops the spikes but they always start up again at some point (I'm yet to pinpoint a cause) and, once happening, I can quit all running apps (except Finder) and they persist, and they seem to occur about 10 secs. apart.
    The spikes occur in both cores but, if one core has a big spike (close to 100%) the other's is small and vice versa. Or they both have moderate spikes. It seems the total usage is about the same for every spike, though spread differently between the two cores.
    And the HD still shows activity at the same rate as the spikes.
    Any ideas what I should look for?

  • Excessive disk activity with Safari 3.2.1

    Since updating to Safari 3.2.1 on os 10.4.11, my hard disk begins a lengthy bout of intense disk activity within a minute or two of opening Safari. It just keeps chunking away, and it only stops when I quit the browser. This happens whether or not I load any pages.
    Looking at Activity Monitor when this is happening, it is clearly Safari that is causing the excessive disk activity. And during these periods, Safari is using 15% to 30% CPU.

    It just plugs away, using 33% of CPU. Very small network usage.
    What is it doing? As for 'resetting' it, what do you mean? Just quit and restart Safari? OK, but this happens consistently.

  • Disk Activity Problem w/ "update" Process

    I'm having problems with unusal spikes in disk activity which causes everything I'm doing to pause until the activity is finished. If I'm browsing or switching between folders the app and OS pauses, if I'm watching a video, the video will pause while the audio will continue for a second before stopping.
    My CPU, System Memory, and Disk Usage are all in a very low percentile of usage. There's no problem there.
    The culprit I've determined is a process called "update" (process ID 89, user: root) At regular intervals "update" will appear on the list of active processes and it is exactly then, everytime, that the system will pause. The process never takes up more than 1% of my CPU.
    Does anyone know what this process is and does? If I quit the process, will it stay off? Any information is helpful. I can't find anything about this specific problem anywhere.

    I would begin looking at any of your 3rd party software, startupitems, background processes, Safe Boot, as well as cleaning the caches with Applejack.
    Many programs and utilities have a "check for updates" feature.
    And the more utilities you have running, to "monitor the health of _________" - they all affect system performance. Less is more. They can stumble over each other and even outright conflict.
    I would also be concerned with the health of the drive directory and folders and the size of the largest folders (there is still a limit of something like 2048 items per folder which will affect open-save and navigating).
    If you have Disk Warrior 4, use it, if you don't, consider it a good investment (just like good backups) for preventative maintenance, not just after there is a problem.

  • X very sluggish during disk activity...

    Hi,
    Recently, X has become very sluggish when disk activity is taking place. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a read or write operation. The pointer freezes and judders across the screen and everything basically stops until the disk access is finished. Usually this is only a problem with large data transfers, but if i'm backing up files or compressing archives it's really annoying! Transfers to USB disks have the same effect.
    Does anyone have any idea as to why this may be happening?

    I have had mixed results with hdparm - in particular enabling dma seems to help but I have an hdparm line in my rc.local and if I try to enable dma there I get a system lock-up on boot when the command is executed.
    Not a memory issue - It's not the most recent laptop but has 1gb of RAM. I've been using ARCH since 2004 and this problem seems to be recent (in the past six months or so) but I can't seem to find any cause for it.
    Does anyone know of any changes to the Kernel? I'm using anticipatory scheduling at the moment but have also used CFQ and the results when it comes to disk access slow-down are about the same.

  • Wake up: tons of hard disk activity

    When the computer is unattended and goes to sleep to save power, there is an insane disk activity during wake up, combined with tons of freezes, etc.
    I am not talking about the deep sleep / hibernation where data gets saved to the disk; I'm talking about leaving the computer unattended 20 minutes and then wasting 2-3 minutes until it's done doing whatever with the disk when I wake it up.
    Everything is still in ram, I'm constantly waiting for.. whatever happens.
    Any idea what the OS might be doing and, especially, how to improve it, if possible?

    After checking more closely, it seems like the system is tied by two services:
    - syncdefaultd
    - cfprefsd
    they go crazy after the wake up and tie up the hard drive and freeze the machine. Any idea what it could be for?

  • Windows - Excessive Disk Activity and "ccmexec.exe"

     
    ccmexec.exe is constantly rummaging through my hard drives, apparently looking for something. 
    It does not seem to be producing any kind of output file (at least none that I can find).
    I have created a batch file to turn off the SMS service, and kill ccmexec.exe, however this is not the best solution. 
    Since the SMS service allows corporate to keep my computer updated, I do not wish to turn it off permanently.
    Is there a way to find out more details on what the ccmexec.exe is looking for? 
    And what it does with the information it finds?

    We have the same problem with software inventory at my site.  The scheduled scan trashes my hard disk and brings my computer to a crawl every MWF morning.  You can check if software inventory is enabled by going to 'Control Panel -> Configuration
    Manager'.  Then, select the 'Components' tab and look for the status of 'Software Inventory Agent'.  If software inventory is enabled for your client, you probably do not have access to disable it.  However, you can configure software inventory
    to skip your hard drive by following instructions at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632671.aspx
    Note that having the Software Inventory Agent enabled does not definitively mean your computer will be scanned for software.  Your IT shop must also instruct your client when and how to perform the scan.  However, your IT department probably has
    it enabled for a reason and it is likely to be part of the problem.
    Additionally, following the technet instructions will likely put your computer out of compliance with IT's standards.  You should only follow them if you are desperate and not worried about getting in trouble.
