CUCM 7.1 migrating to BE6000

I have a customer that is moving from their UCM 7.1 to a BE6K.  The have ucss/esw and I cannot figure out how to migrate their current licenses on UCM.  They are getting new hardware, so it is not a upgrade to the existing servers.  Also is there a way to migrate the data from the current system into BE6K or would it be better to build it and export/import the information.
Thanks.

Hi,
We're about to refresh the BE6000 ordering guide, which includes the following on this subject.

  • How to migrate from BE6000 to Communications Manager

    Dear forum members,
first of all, I'am tired. I have been on a long journey from the day we bought our Cisco Unified Communication system until now.
Technically everything worked just fine, right from the beginning until now. But starting from the first day, I had several huge
issues with our Cisco reseller (Deutsche Telekom/T-Systems).
It all started with the fact, that all hardware related contracts and services were SmartNet Services and added directly to our company account.
All software related services were booked as "Shared Services". So we were the rightfull owner of the licenses but our reseller had to migrate/issue all tickets, licensing requests and so on.
It took us (me and our reseller) over a year to set these things "right".
Right now, everything (hardware and software related services, licenses, ...) are bound to our Cisco account. We can open TAC cases, download software/firmware and so on.
Last week, we migrated successfully from Call Manager 8.6.5 to 10.0. So I was really happy to see, that everything worked fine (I could migrate my licenses, download the software, ...).
I thought, "Hey, finally eveything works as expected..."
    I was wrong, so wrong...
What happend? I tell you what happend...
During the migration, we had to move all our servers (CUCM, CUC & CUPS) from our Cisco C200 M2 Server to our Dell VMware cluster, because the C200 M2 is (as far as I know) not supported anymore for BE6000 10.x and we didn't wand to buy a new C220 M3 server.
Due to the fact, that the BE6000 is only supported on that hardware, we decided to migrate our BE6000 to a Cisco Unified Communications Manager.
Our reseller told me, that Cisco Unified Communications Manager is supported on third party hardware (if the hardware meets certain requirements, like processors and so on) and due to the fact that we only use CUCM, CUC & CUPS there would be no difference for us when it comes to features.
So I said: Great, let's do that. And when you are doing that, can you please order us a license for a collab edge gateway (the thing that enables Jabber to proxy through the firewall without the need of a vpn tunnel).
And that was the point when our communication stucked...
Since that mail, I don't get any response from our reseller regarding this two tasks. They told me, that I can do that myself. I tried that and searched all cisco portals and then opended a TAC case.
The TAC team told me, that our reseller had to file a sales order (is that right?) and send me back to them.
Right now, I'am trapped between Cisco and my reseller and I'am really tired. Can someone please tell me what I can do/have to do to patch things up?
    Kind regards,
    René

DRS from your current server which is using the 6K OVAs, into your dell server which should NOT be using the 6K OVAS, but any of the other non-6K options you have.
I assume you've already verified your server is supported under 3rd party spec guidelines???
But, that's all it takes to move from a 6K into an enterprise CUCM, or the other way around as well.

  • BE on MCS v7 migrate to BE6000 on UCS

I have a client who has a 100 single MCS server based Business edition running version 7. Currently they are covered under UCCS/ESW nearing the end of this 3 year agreement.
What is the correct migration path to take them from V7 to BE6k on UCS.  Looking possibly to add some redundancy.
Customer has CUCM/Unity Connection/Presence/Attendant Console applications.
From the SE session I believe I could
buy 2 50 or 100 user bundles or buy 1 bundle and a
migration bundle for the redundant server with all the software preloaded.
If I purchase 2 50s, this gives the active publisher a total of 100 users during normal operation?
My question is is the migration bundle a deep discounted sku that acknowledges the investment of the existing BE version 7 and MCS hardware, or do I have to go through the technology migration path to get value for the existing hardware and licenses?
Is this even the correct roadmap, from v7 or do I have to first upgrade to v9 on the existing hardware under the UCCS support terms, THEN migrate to UCS hardware?
    Thank you.
    md

    You have mulitple options.
    1.  AS you described in the question, buy two 50 bundles will let you have a publisher with 100 user license, and a subscriber server.
    2. Just buy one starter bundle, and use the MCS server as you back server.  Please check the MCS server is supported in 9.0. In this case, you will need to upgrade the MCS server with 9.0 SW.
The migration program includes mulitples parts:
    1. Migration bundle is discounted with its price just around $1K higher than the listed bare metal server price. and with pre-loaded OS and VMware. It also comes with the free VCS licesnse (5 travelsal license + 10 non travesal ),  5 CC agent license and required VMware license.
    2. Don't need to purchase new license.  Just migrate them. What really matters is the migration discount on license.  With the 9X3 migration promotion, you can migrate you licesnse to BE6000 for $9 per license if 3 year UCSS is purchased.
    3. Use the MCS server as reducndancy server or run other applications.
    4. You don;t nee to upgrade to 9.0 first ro be able to migrate.
We are going to publish a white paper for migration ery soon. Please stay tuned.

  • Does Migration Licenses Include Upgrade of CUCM, UCCX, IMP, CUC?

    Hi,
Does migration licenses include the upgrade of CUCM, UCCX, IMP and CUC from BE6K? The customer said that they currently have expired UCSS, but they purchased migrations licenses to v10.5. They purchased these items below. They are running v8.6 CUCM and UCCX 8.5.

You don't need to pay any money for any major CUCM upgrade as long as you have active UCSS on it.  If as part of the migration to version 8.6 you purchased UCSS you are covered, otherwise you will need to pay for every major upgrade.
If you did buy UCSS then you can simply request the upgrade vie the PUT upgrade portal.

  • BE6000 Migration to Full UCM

Anyone know the process or SKU to migrate from BE6000 licensing to full UCM licensing?

Putting aside the UCS Hardware, which should be reviewed and perhaps upgraded, I do see Migration SKUs in Netformx for Migrating from BE UWL to CUWL-STD or PRO.
For release 8.6 it would be top level CUWL-LIC-STD-K9
    Under that: UWL-MIG-CUWLBE-STD  $10
For release 8.6 it would be top level CUWL-LIC-PRO-K9
    Under that: UWL-MIG-CUWLBE-PRO  $220
I see similar SKUs in release 9.0 under L-CUWL-ADDON-xxxxx
Since BE-CUWL is $315 and CUWL-STD is $325, I guess it makes sense,
Same for the jump to CUWL-Pro.

  • IP Communicator Upgrade

    Hi Guys,
I wonder if someone can guide.
I have a customer who has deployed 10*IPC2.1 softphone clients and wants to move to 7.0 with CUCM upgrade. They don't have UCSS with older IPCs. Does this mean they have to purchase IPC software and client licences as brand new install or can they download new software from Cisco download center and use the existing client licences? Or do they have to send old IPC client licences to Cisco licencing for upgrade as well along CUCM licences?
    Many Thanks,

    Hi JB,
The client can download the newer IPC version with their existing licenses
Just make sure that they are configured in CUCM before the migration so that the
proper amount of DLU's is created for each IPC

  • Moving CUCM Cluster from 7.1.5 to 10.5 and migrating P2V

Community - What I am looking for is advice from those who have actually done it!   Reading about sex and having sex are two different subjects. I am finding relevant docs on the CISCO site, some are contradictory.  One doc on CISCO Prime Deployment says yes to CUCM 7.1.5 and another says no.  We know the standard "refresh" upgrade process, cop files and that entire drill.   What we are looking for is comments from those who have done it before!   Our Cluster is mixed MCS servers with CUCM PUB and SUB at Version 7.1.5. Unity/UCCX at 8.0.2  with no HA (don't ask).  We want to end up with BE6000 and have UCCX in HA mode on Version 10.5 (10.6)!  So what do you think, Migrate all in cluster to a common base like 9, then migrate to VM and upgrade?   Or try to do it some other way.
All Comments welcome and very appreciated!

@Jamie I think we eliminated PCD as a strategy.   We see this as following the usual upgrade process and assume we will be taking multiple steps.  Step one would be to get all on a common version and we are thinking  8.5.   At that point we could do the P2V and then upgrade to 10.5 on ESXi.  We need to create some HA for Unity and UCCX, but will do that after we get to 10.5.  Hopefully we can upgrade the CUCM Publisher, during which time the rest of the cluster will be operational?  Put Pub back online as 8.5 and then do the subscriber.  Again, we think UCCX and Unity will be operational on PUB as we upgrade SUB.   Once on CUCM 8.5 we will then schedule maintenace windows to upgrade Unity and UCCX.   At that point we have a cluster on 8.5 ready for P2V.  We do that migration and when all are on ESXi, we do the upgrade to 10.5 and add in a HA server for UCCX and Unity.  How does that sound?   As we really dont want phones rebooting and downloading firmware, we will do that ahead of time, but are researching the level we should get them to before the 8.5 upgrade.
@Amn thanks for the link.  We have been reading all we can on the CISCO site, and are really seeking out those who have done this and can share experience.
    Thanks to all who comment.

  • Does migration to CUCM 8.6 to 9.1 requires aditional Money?

    Hi pals!
We just completed migration to CUCM 8.6 a year ago, we are now (we want to) moving to 9.1, we have a question, if it requires aditional money $$$$ (license), por for upgrade or just a minor patch.
    Also.
Does it also requires CUC 9.1?
Does it also requires CUPS 9.1 too?
I just read the quick guide to migration and I have a loot of questions, my Cisco Parthner is really busy right now with another projects, so I Think i just get the point of this topic.
    another BIG question.
When will version 10 be releaded (more less)?
I would better wait for version 10 instead version 9.1
Can you provide some interesting links?
I appreciate your time for your response, and I thank to you in advance.

  • CUCM 8.6(2) migration problem with external calls

    Hello all.
Yesterday we have migrated our telephone infrastructure from CM4.x to CUCM8.6(2), after some weeks of tests.
Yesterday night all seems to work properly, all phone updated and registered, external calls going out and in.
But from this morning, with all users at work, it appears a strange problem, that until now I couldn't solve: randomly all external calls go down.
I can't address this problem, since gateways (all cisco 2811 routers) are the same and with same configuration as yesterday.
All thing that I can think is that router that seems to cause the problem is configured not with mgcp by cucm, but with h323 route inside the router.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Daniele

    GW says normal call clearing.
But, maybe I've addressed the problem.
I've found a bug fixed into latest cucm release (8.6(2a)SU1) that say "h.323 calls improperly disconnected".
So I'm trying to upgrade from 8.6(2a) to 8.6(2a)SU1, but process fails :-(
I've tried from a dvd and also loading iso image from sftp, but after few minutes appears an error

  • Problem migrating CUCM 7.1.5 to 9.1(2) (Jump Upgrade)

    Hello all,
I am facing an issue when trying to upgrade from CUCM 7.1.5.30000-1 to 9.1(2) over UCS following the jump upgrade procedure.
I have installed 7.1.5 CUCM software on the UCS using the 9.1(2) ova. (two nodes cluster), and after that restored the CUCM backup.
I have loaded "ciscocm.refresh_upgrade_v1.3.cop" file before the upgrade on both nodes.
The connectivity with NTP server is good.
The upgrade file I am using is "UCSInstall_UCOS_9.1.2.11900-12.sgn".
The installation begins on Publisher but after three hours and when it is ending it fails. I have checked the installation logs and this is what it shows:

Can anyone help me with this? I am stuck on the migration.
    Thanks!!
    Héctor

Just for the record. I found the solution to my problem. Checking more logs I read this:
The installation has encountered a unrecoverable internal error. For further assistance report the following information to your support provider.
    "/usr/local/cm/script/cm-dbl-ontape_backup-install RU PostInstall 9.1.2.11900-12 7.1.5.30000-1 /usr/local/cm/ /common/component/database /common/log/install/capture.txt " terminated. Exceeded max time (240)
    The system will now halt.
So I accessed the Dissaster Recovery Section on CUCM and deleted the tape backup device that was configured there. After deleting it the upgrade went well.

  • Migrating from CUCM 8.6 to CUCM 10.0 - Do I have to upgrade presence as well?

    Hello Raees,
I've got a question regarding the Migration from CUCM 8.6 to 1.0, I went through the below "Ask the Expert" article.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12103966/ask-expert-cisco-unified-communications-manager-cucm-version-100
My question is, the CUCM 10.0 upgrade mentions the following on page 22
"Refresh upgrade of Unified Communications Manager nodes only
Complete the high-level tasks listed in this section when you want to perform a refresh upgrade of only the
Unified Communications Manager nodes in your network. When you upgrade Unified Communications
Manager nodes without upgrading IM and Presence nodes, ensure that the installed version of the IM and
Presence Service is compatible with the new version of the Unified Communications Manager software."
I would only like to Upgrade the CUCM nodes but the client is using Presence 8.6 as well, would I have to upgrade Presence 8.6 to something else as well or can I just upgrade to CUCM 10.0 and the presence 8.6 would work with it, if I have to upgrade Presence as well then what version of Presence would I have to upgrade to and for the "Refresh Upgrade for Presence" can you mention the SKU that I got to get off the Product Upgrade Tool.
Since it's going to be a Refresh Upgrade for CUCM from 8.6 to 10.0 can you as well provide me with the SKU for the upgrade that I got to purchase, I can see two of them as follows:
    UCM-10.X-SW-K9-XU=
CUCM Software Version 10.X for PUT Only, Export Unrestricted
    UCM-10.X-SW-K9=
CUCM Software Version 10.X for PUT Only
    Thanks
    Aamer

Thank you for the reply Chris,
I have a few more questions with regards to what you mentioned in your reply, I'd be glad if you could clarify:
I have not dealt with IMP before...
    1) is it like a plugin that runs on CUCM instead of a full fledged server or is it a stand alone server like CUPS (just renamed/rebranded).... I have till date been dealing with CUPS as a stand alone server that integrates with CUCM via the CUCM -> System-> Application Server Option.
    2) If it's a plug-in then how would the upgrade be done from the CUPS Stand Alone to this IMP that runs within the CUCM Server or would it be a fresh installation or some activation of services within CUCM... and if it's a stand alone server then what Upgrade Image do I need to upgrade CUPS 8.6.4 to IMP 10.0 or 10.5.
I'm sorry but the upgrade path for CUPS 8.6.4 to IMP 10.0/10.5 is not clear for me, could you help me understand the migration for CUPS 8.6.4 to IMP 10.0/10.5..... could you as well advise any documentation that shows detailed steps for the upgrade from CUPS 8.6.4 to IMP 10.0/10.5... the CUCM upgrade is clear to me from the Upgrade Guide.
    Thank you

  • Default operation on CUCM V9.1.2 after migration ESXi5.1

    Hello
Following migration of CUCM and Unity Connection V8.5 to V9.1.2 we meet a very important problem of slowdown on the CUCM Publisher Web interface. The servers used UCS C210 M1 are with ESXi 5.1
The slowdown makes it virtually unusable administration interface on the Publisher.
At the moment, using the Web interface Subscriber normally navigates the administration menus.
It is possible that this slowdown "cache" something more serious about how the Call Manager.
In addition, it fails to see the services from the publisher subscriber.
An error message appears preventing access to services of the Publisher.
    "Unable to access remote node".
1 - Do you have some ideas to look to find the cause of these slowdowns Publisher?
In addition, we find a fault on the line positions 8945 version:
    "8941_8945-cmterm-sccp.9-3-4-17.cop.sgn"
Since we migrated to CUCM v9.1.2, we have some IP phones that have this version and are stuck with the "mail" button no longer works.
Unfortunately, we can not change the version as an error message appears consistently on the job.
We tried the "Factory Reset" without success.
2 - Do you have a solution that would restore an earlier version of this model post 8945?
    Thank you for your help.
NB: Excuse me for my English a little light.

Can you also check the LRO settings?   Although it's not required in your scenerio to disable LRO the documentation does mention you could disable it if you are experiencing tpc traffic problems..

  • Migration from BE3000 to BE6000

    Hi,
Has anyone done a successful migration from BE3000 to BE6000?
    I need the guides.
    Please assist.
    Thanks

    Hi Valdes,
I haven't come across any Export / Import method for migration from BE3k To BE6k. Even if its tried the whole process may turn out to be too complex without any confirmation about the integrity of database that is exported. However, there is documentation supporting the migration from BE3K to Standalone servers like in the following link

  • BE6000 CUCM 9.1 version licensing query

    Hi All,
We have a BE6000 with CUCM 9.1 and UCL enhanced license subscription for 3 years. Can somebody help me understand what we need to do at the end of 3 years? Do we need to renew the licenses or do we have to purchase new licenses all together.
    Thanks

Once you purchase the licenses, it stays with you and does not expire.  However, if you do not keep your UCSS current and smartnet subscriptions, you will not be able to upgrade to version 10 or higher.  (after three years).   If you let it expire, Cisco usually has a program in place to allow the customer "get well" or "get current" for subscriptions.  Instead of buying new licenses, you will be required to buy upgrades or renew your subscription at a higher price.
In a nutshell, stay current on your UCSS and SmartNet contracts and you will be fine.
