CUCM & CME licensing

Hello
I  know this may seem a strange question but I am struggling to find an  answer to it and am hoping this is the correct place to post the  question and get an answer.
Our  organisation currently has a CUCM cluster. When new phones are needed  the organisation buys the phones and the required number of licenses for  the phones.
Each of the 3 remote sites has a 2851 running in SRST mode if it looses contact with the CUCM servers.
I  know all the theory about CUCM etc but I am new to administration on a  live network. There are a couple of questions which have been asked  lately that I am unclear about.
1.  There are some plans to add 4 more remote sites to the system, the  question has been asked if more phone licenses need to be bought. I have  advised that licenses are bought with the phones (depending on the  phone model). The phones are new not spares so they need the licenses.
2.  If some of the original sites decided to break away from the current  set-up and use their 2851 in CME mode will they need to buy more  licenses for their phones. I was unclear of the position on this but I  did not think it possible to transfer CUCM licenses to CME.
I  am sorry if this is rather a basic question but although I have spent a  bit of time looking through Cisco documentation on licensing I am still  unclear on the answers to these questions.
I would appreciate any help on this or if someone could point me in the direction where I can find the information
Kind Regards

Thank you for the info but I might not have explained myself properly
We dont want to replace CUCM licenses with CME licenses, it is more a case of if one of the remote sites which currently is registered to the CUCM decides to go on their own and use their 2851 gateway as a CME router can the current licenses on the CUCM system be transfered to the CME.
I thought that the CUCM licenses could only be transferred between CUCM systems but I might be wrong
I was also a bit unsure of what type of phone licenses the CME actually needed.
Thanks for your input
Ellen

  • Cisco CME licensing

                       Hello Cisco Team
I am planning to install 20 ip phones 7942 and 5 ip Communicators but I got some doubts in licensing,
    First
What is the difference between FL-CME-SRST-25 and SW-CCME-UL-7942, do I have to buy both?
Can I take 5 licenses from FL-CME-SRST-25 to install 5 ip communicators?
    Hope you can help me
    Regards

    Hi Hugo,
SW-CCME-UL-7942 is the IP phone CME license for 7942 model  while  FL-CME-SRST-25 is feature license of SRST and is for 25 seats.
for IP Communicator , u need to have separate licenses.Part Code would be  SW-CCME-UL-IPCOMM= [you can get the same checked by Cisco AM]
    All licenses are paper based.

  • Jabber Client for CME license

i have CME 2921 ISR router and i need to implement cisco jabber client for 50 user
is this needs a license or not
if yes, please provide me how to orser it and what is its part number
    thank you very much

If you are going to use Jabber, that counts like a regular SIP Phone, just like 7945, or 99XX phones, you don't need an additional  license:

  • CUCM demo license question

    Hello.
We use  two nodes of CUCM 7.1 and we have permanent device license. Now we'd like to increase amount of phones for a short time. I downloaded 3-monthes demo license for 500 units (the file in attachment). So my question is - how I should add this license correctly? Should I edit this file in some way before uplouding to a server? What will be with our permanent license? What will happen after 3 months? We just lose additional 500 units or it could affect the permanent license?
I would very thankful for any answers.
    Ruslan

    Ruslan,
All licenses on CUCM are cumulative and they do not overwrite previous licenses. So, simply upload this licenses (assuming it is for the correct MAC) on the publisher. There is no limit as to how many licenses you can have AFAIK.

  • Recording solutions for CUCM/CME.

    Hi, all!
I have a questions about call recording solution for CUCM and CME.
    - Does Cisco Media Sense support call recording for Call Manager Express?
    - Will Media sense write all calls, including calls via PSTN to any DN, or only DN to DN calls?
    - Can it be used for call recording in CUCM?
    - Network-based call recording feature available only in CUCM 10 or early versions?
    - What is disadvanteges and benefits of span/rspan call recording solutions?

  • CUCM Demo License Renewal

i believe my demo license may have expired.  i can access all the cucm node servers in the cluster but not the activity buttons within each service(admin, serviceability, etc) . i get this msg on the admin page:
    Licensing Warnings:
System is operating on Demo licenses. Please upload relevant license files
what's the process/steps to renew the demo license?

Its called buy licensing at this point.   The demo license does not run more than 1 or two nodes.  So not sure how many nodes you have or trying to activate. Usually you can only activate a single node (Publisher) on the Demo license in 8.6

  • CUCM Demo License

    Hello,
I running CUCM with demo license is there a time limit to use this demo licenses?
    Regards
    Leonardo Santana

This is no longer true starting with ELM on CUCM 9.0. There are no licenses installed by default and ELM will shutdown the products after a grace period.
A 60 day grace period allows administrators to add users even if insufficient licenses exist within the ELM license pool. If sufficient licenses are not available once the 60 day grace period expires, then the Unified Communications application(s) will no longer allow any further changes; however, the application(s) will continue to function with no loss of service.
Unity Connection will outright halt services when the grace period expires.
Your only path for a permanent lab/demo would be to purchase an NFR kit.

  • CUCM 9 vs CUCM 10 License

    Hi Everyone
I wanted to know can anyone tell me  what is the difference between ELM which is used in CUCM 9 and PLM which is used in CUCM 10. Is it just a name change and they are the same or is there really a big difference between them. Thanks in advance for the help and have a great day.

  • Inquire about of CUCM & UCCX license

    Hi,
    have a good day,
I've connect CUCM with PSTN through SIP Trunk and i wonder how many PSTN calls the CUCM is able to process.
also how can i know maximum number is UCCX is able to Queued.
    Thanks in advance

There are too many facets to this to answer in a forum thread. The design guides and UC Solution Sizing Tool (partners only) allow you to plug in the data - if you have it - to get a precise answer.
Short answer is that CUCM a usually runs out of phones-per-node before running into calls per second or CTI-related limitations in CCX designs. CCX can queue up to 300 calls, assuming the average hold time is three minutes or greater.

  • From CME to BE 7k CUCM 10.x

    Hello,
We have 240 licenses for Cisco Call Manager Express. We are planning upgrade to CUCM 10.x with BE7k hardware. Is any option to upgrade CME licenses to CUCM licenses? Is any SKU for this?
    Thanks,
    Oleg

    Hi Oleg,
Not that much confident .I was going through Ordering guide of CME 9.1 which says
    http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/unified-communications/unified-communications-manager-express/cme_ordering_guide.pdf
Customers migrating from Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express to Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.0 or later require a Cisco Unified Communications Manager device license upgrade for the number of phone user licenses purchased. The customer should collect proof of ownership for each Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express IP phone user license (SW- CCME-UL-79xx) purchased and provide this information plus the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Publisher MAC address to [email protected] Customers will receive a licensing file to add to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager with the same number of device points.
If soemone has more clarity, can provide more info.

  • CUCME and CUCM Licensing

I would like to know how to register the licenses ordered for IP Phones to be registered and uploaded
    in to CUCME and CUCM.
I searched a lot of documents but cant find out a proper answer. Could someone help me out on this issue, as I am having 2 projects, 1 with CUCME and 1 with CUCM. The customer have ordered for Licenses, but i dont know how to register it.
    Please help

No, the whole process really is what I've written above. The license file is purchasesd from Cisco, but once you have that file there is no further involvement with Cisco, it's all done on the CUCM.
You license the CUCM to accept a certain number of devices, and then as  you add phones to the CUCM the license totals will go down.
The licenses are in units. So say you apply a license file that contains 1000 units. If you look in the License Calculator, it will tell you how many units each type of phone would use up.
Every time you add a phone (or sometimes a feature such as Mobility) it will use up a certain number of units as shown in the Calculator, and if you ever remove that phone later (say because it needs replaced because of a fault or for a newer model), the units are returned. So for example, a Cisco 7945 IP phone takes up 4 units each, whereas a 7975 uses up 5 units each.
Once you run out of units it won't let you add any more phones until you either remove some devices to get the units back, or you apply more units.

  • Cisco Call Manager License

Can anyone please tell me if Cisco CME Voice Recording licences need to be annually updated?
Also Call Manager Express licences cover the users indefinitely?

    Hi Manthan,
    Cisco Unified CME Permanent License
When you purchase a Cisco Unified CME permanent license, the permanent  license is installed on the device when the product is shipped to you. A  permanent license never expires and you will gain access to that  particular feature set for the lifetime of the device across all IOS  release. If you purchase a permanent license for Cisco Unified CME , you  do not have to go through the Evaluation Right to Use and Right To Use  (RTU) licensing processes for using the features. If you want to  purchase a CME-SRST license for your existing device, you have to go  through the RTU licensing process for using the features. There is no  change in the existing process for purchasing the license.
The Cisco Unified CME permanent license is available in the form of an  XML cme-locked3 file. You should get the XML file and load it in the  flash memory of the device. To install the permanent license from the  command prompt, use the license install flash0:cme-locked3 command. The cme-locked3 is the xml file of the license.
    Collaboration Professional Suite License
Collaboration Professional is a new suite of licenses. The Collaboration  Professional Suite can be purchased either as a permanent license or an  RTU license.
Collaboration Professional Suite Permanent License —When you purchase  the Collaboration Professional Suite license, by default, the Cisco  Unified CME licenses are delivered as part of the Collaboration  Professional Suite. You do not have to separately install and activate  the Cisco Unified CME license. The Collaboration Professional Suite  permanent license is available in the form of an XML file. You should  get the XML file and load it in the flash memory of the device. To  install the permanent license from the command prompt, use the license install flash:lic_name command.
Collaboration Professional Suite RTU License—When you purchase the  Collaboration Professional Suite RTU license, you do not have to go  through the Evaluation Right to Use process. However, you have to go  through the RTU licensing process for using the Cisco Unified CME  features. To install the Collaboration Professional Suite RTU license  from the command prompt, use the license install flash0:colla_pro command. To activate the license, use the license boot module c2951 technology-package collabProSuitek9 command.

  • CME External Directory

Our customer has a Unified CM cluster and a few Call Manager Express and he needs that ip phones registered in the CME could consult the Call Manager corporate directory. I´ve configured all steps described in the chapter "Configuring Directory Services" in the "Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express System Administrator Guide"  but when I press the Directory button, there isn´t any option to search coportate directory. I´ve configured the same url in telephony-service as in the Call Manager and I've add the ip phones in the Call Manager. I´m missing something?

Did you ever get an answer on this? I'm running into the same problem but what I have figured out is that if your CME phones have registered to CUCM at least once EVER then the directory will work. There is some sort of switch that gets flipped in the phone once it has registered to CUCM and the directory will always work after that, regardless of CUCM/CME/whatever.
This is the URL I am using in CME- pointing to the CUCM Directory URL from Enterprise Manager.
    url directories http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:8080/ccmcip/xmldirectory.jsp
I've been running through various scenarios and it seems like the behavior change happens after xmldefault.cnf.xml is loaded from the CUCM.
I'd appreciate the input from any Cisco IP Phone SME's out there. I have the xmldefault.cnf.xml from CME and CUCM and while they are different I can't find any obvious reason for the behavior.
