CUCM on ESXi install

Hello,
I've made a new installation of CUCM 8.6 on VM with ova template in ESXi 5.0 host. Is it normally that on Xeon 5410 host with 2 allocated cores and 2gb RAM installation process takes veery long time? Even pre-install checksum validation takes about 10-20 minutes. All process takes about 2,5 hours. But the strange thing is that after succesfull installation CUCM works quite slow. Even the first start freezes on "Loading, please wait" screen for about 10-14 seconds. And that screen freezes every time you log in. Former employee that was working with telephony have installed cucm 8.5 on another VM and it runs much faster. Even on less hardware resources.
Did I miss something in installation? Maybe there is some pre-install configuration of VM needed to run cucm faster? Guy who installed 8.5 doesn't remember anything about this. In cucm on VM installation guide i haven't seen any advice.
Thank you.

Do you mean that if host processor will be 200MHz faster then CUCM performance will be amazingly higher?
Unlikely but you need to start this thread off with the disclaimer that you're playing in a lab and not having a production problem then. I have CUCM 8.6(2a)SU1 running on my MacBook with reasonable performance and it doesn't meet the CPU requirements either.
You could launch RTMT and see if there is a high IOWait which may suggest a HD IOPS performance issue; much of Informx is sequential write-oriented after all. Also, is that 4GB reserved for the VM; or, is the hypervisor swapping it as virtual memory? Slowness in Tomcat (e.g. "Loading, please wait..") is esspecially indicitive of memory shortages. I have seen that exact behavior when I forgot to add memory to an MCS server during an upgrade.

  • Flexflash vs usb esxi install

    Hi All,
We just picked up a couple  ucs240 m3 servers and need to install esxi. We have no physical drives in the servers. The var we purchased from has two techs with differing points of view on the location of the install. Their arguments are as follows,
Tech 1 I always install on the usb stick
Tech 2 I always use the flexflash if they have it
Tech3 (me) I better get some other points of view.
Of note only slot 1 of the flexflash has a card in it SD253, Im guessing its an sd card?
    Is there a performance difference?
    Is there a best practice?
Any advice/help would be very much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
Just want to add a little more...
Currently: The only supported SD card size is 16GB.
Please check this link where you can find very helpful information about the Flexflash and general questions.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/solutions/collateral/ns340/ns517/ns224/ns944/white_paper_c11-718938.pdf
    Q. Can I install a third-party card SD card into the server?
    A. No. Third-party cards are not qualified for use in the FlexFlash slots.
    For the part numbers:
You can order up to two optional preloaded 16 GB Cisco Flexible Flash secure digital (SD) cards.
    Cisco UCS C240 M3 - Spec Sheet
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10493/C240M3_SFF_SpecSheet.pdf  pag :47
    UCSC-SD-16G-C240 ->  16GB SD Card for C240 servers
    UCS-SD-16G ->  16GB SD Card
The first SD card contains preloaded software for simplified server operation. (Partitions).
You can order an optional second blank SD card. The second SD card can be used to mirror the first SD card as Manuel mentioned before.
    I hope this helps.

  • Dell Precision T5610 ESXi install error (No network adapters)

Hi everyone, i am trying to install vmware esxi 5.5 to my dell precision T5610 workstation. However i'm getting "No network adapters were detected" error.  I tried to install Dell Customized Image of VMware ESXi 5.5 but i get the same error again.
I tried customizing the esxi iso file with esxi customizer. but it is asking for .vib or tgz file of my network adapter. Where can i download vib file of my network adapter which is  Intel 82579 Gigabit Ethernet Controller. What should i do in this step? Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi wdey
Yes you assume correct. This is a standalone server.
Hardware wise this is a C220 M3S with two E5-2620-V2. 4 x 8 GB RAM. 4 x 300 GB Disk set up to Raid-5 on the 2008M-8i Mezzanine Card. And finally this server was shipped with the Flexible Flash "module" (I cant even remember we ordered that, but it was in there ... so :-) )
No extra NICs where added, i just have the two onboard Gigabit ports (Intel I350 Ethernet controller as far as i know ?).
I have installed the ESXi on the Flash module.
In my opinion this ought to be pretty straight forward, and I just cant see what Im doing wrong.
The only thing i have been "playing" around with was the CIMC configuration.
The default configuration was set to Shared LOM EXT. I changed that to "dedicated" to use the specific mgmt port for CIMC. (I have also tried to change it back just in case.)
Furthermore I have updated "everything" : BIOS, CIMC,  2008M-8i Mezzanine Card bios and so on. Nothing has helped.

  • ESXi install hangs at install splash screen

I found this exact issue being described on VMware's message board below and it's referncing firmware updates.
Has anyone else seen this and what was your fix?
    http://communities.vmware.com/thread/325678

I don't know which firmware you are running, but I ran into an issue with USB legacy support in the BIOS that would cause ESXi to hang on boot.  It didn't do it on all the blades.....
Here is a link that discusses it..... not sure if this is what you are running into this issue or not....
The fix is to disable Legacy USB support in the BIOS.

  • Installing UCS 240 M3 SFF

    Hi,
We have purchased 4 Cisco UCS 240 M3 SFF(Two each in 2 Data Center) for migrating hardware from Cisco MCS to Cisco UCS.We have purchased VMware vSphere Standard 5 software directly from VMware. As new to virtualized server platform ,will help if some one can answer below-
-Is there any good document which mentions step by step procedure how to install & bring up the UCS 240 M3 SFF server. Example-start with RAID followed with ESXi install, vSphere/vCentre..
-Is there any SRND,best practice document for Cisco UCS 240 M3 SFF -RAID,NIC, vCentre..
    - We have 14 hard disks per server. What is the recommended RAID configuration.RAID5?Any good document on RAID configuration?
    - Do we need two vCenter to manage all the VMs on 4 servers in two Data Centers taking into account of redundancy if one vCenter fails or WAN failure between data Centers.
    - I need to install and bring up the UCS server remotely. If I configure the management IP through BIOS and connect the management port to the network, can I configure rest of the server remotely?
    - I see four 1 GB NIC ports on the UCS server and assume should be configured as trunk/dot1q on the network switch. Is there anything to be done on UCS to configure as trunk port? Should the ports on the network switch be configured as trunk/dot1q & speed 1000full as best practice?

    - It all depends on the co-resident Vms but I think trunk is the way to go.

  • Adding iPad3 with Jabber Client as a device in CUCM 8.6

I posted this in the wrong category.
We have CUCM 8.6 installed in house and I have successfully connected iPhone and Droid phones, however I have been unable to get my iPad3 configured as an endpoint. I have the most recent Jabber for iPad installed on the iPad but when I go to CUCM to add the device iPad is not one of the options. I can add the iPad as an iPhone, but video is not an option.
Is there a device pack which I will need to add to CUCM? I was under the impression that device support for iPad3 was included in the 8.6 release.
    Thanks,
    Brian

When the Jabber for iPad is out of BETA and a shipping product in a few weeks, there will published documentation on how to accomplish this; and likely a COP file to install for the device to show up in CUCM for you.

  • Change default language of Ip phone on CUCM 7

    Hello Everybody,
I have Publisher Cucm 7.1 installed on my cluster, and i need to change the default-language of all my phone inside my cluster to Portuguese,
Someon know , how can i do that?
    Thx in advance

    Hi,
in order to select the Portuguese locale for the phones, you will need to download the latest locale installer (LI) for your country, i.e. Portugal from cisco.com. If you also need the localised network tones, then you will need to install the combined network locale as well.
For example, for CUCM version 7.1.x, you should download the following locale installers:
    cm-locale-combined_network-ES-7.1.5.1300-1.cop.sgn (network locale)
    cm-locale-pt_PT-ES-7.1.5.1300-1.cop.sgn (user locale)
Caution: If you are you using 69XX or 89XX IP phones, you will also need the Phone only locales (PO)!
Be sure to install the user locale, as well as the network locale on every CUCM server in your cluster, starting with the Publisher. You will have to reboot the cluster, in order to have the locales fully available.
Please refer to the following DocWiki document, if you need assistance with installing the locales:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Cucm-phone-locale-installers
After the locales are installed and all CUCM servers are rebooted, then you can update the user locale via the Bulk Administration Tool (BAT), as Adrian has described above.
If this post was helpful, please rate.
    Kind regards,
    Igor

  • Access Esxi VM from Player

    Hello,
I have spent hours trying to figure out my problem, I am about to give up and try something else but thought I would throw this out there.
    Host is windows 7
I have Esxi installed on a VMplayer
I have LinuxMint installed on esxi via vSphere
    I am trying to access linux mint directly. I have tried the vmplayer switch "Vmplayer -h <ip> -u<user> -p <password> [datastore1] linuxmint/linuxmint.vmx"
The IP referes to the IP of the esxi. I believe both the data store name and linuxmint path are correct.
However when vmplay comes up I get "expect footprint not found". If I change the path to something I know is incorrect I get the same error. I have tried all variations I can think of.
What am I doing wrong, Is there a better way to simply access this VM? I should note that the ESXi VM is bridged showing me a sequental number to the host system IE host is 192.168.1.1 the esxiVM is 192.168.1.2.
Eventually this will ultimatly be deployed in my home server (Dell PE 2950), but not if I can figure out how to access a paticalur VM with ease.
    Thanks
    Jet A

It should be "datastore1 Vista1/Vista1.vmx".   This is Not correct Vista1 is contained in the folder Datastore1 therefore you need to use  to perform the command correctly
    datastore1/Vista1/Vista1.vmx
If you found this information useful, please consider awarding points for "Correct" or "Helpful". Thanks!

  • UCS: Can't reach ESXi server

    Hi,
i installed ESXi4 on UCS B200M1 Blade, after ip address Configuration is done isaw:
"Download tools to manage this host from
    http://10.10.10.20/ (static)"
But i can't ping this Ip Address and i can't reach it by http.
I use the same ip address as KVM ip pool, i can ping KVM ip addresses.
I pluged and configured management ports only on UCS Fabric interconnect, i didn't pluged any uplink ethernet ports.
    Did i miss something?
Do i need any uplink ethernet ports to reach esxi server?
    thank you

You need to connect the uplink ports on your 6100's.  The management ports are only for KVM or IPMI access to the blades.  They will not supply connectivity for the vNIC's.  Your ESXi install is attempting to connect to the network via the vNIC's.  Also do not set the management IP for the ESXi host to match the management IP in UCS, this will cause a duplicate IP address on your network.

  • Converting a ESXi 5.5 VIB to a 6.0 VIB.

    hello fellow VMers,
My ESXi install is sitting on a AS Rock PRO4-M LGA1155 Intel H77 motherboard. ESXi 5.5 worked great and then I went to 6.0. Currently I have a ESXi supported NIC installed but the onboard NIC is not ESXi supported. What I did in 5.5 is used this VIB to get ESXi to support the onboard NIC:
    http://www.tinkertry.com/files/VMware_bootbank_net-r8168_8.013.00-3vmw.510.0.0.799733.vib
It's a VIB for Realtek RTL8111E. This is a noob thing to do but I tried using that VIB for 6.0 and it didn't work. ESXi failed to instal.
My question is how does one make a VIB? Can I modify the 5.5 VIB to work with the 6.0?

I think the only solution is to go back to 5.5. the best thing I found was this community packaging tool:
VMware Front Experience: ESXi5 Community Packaging Tools
I don't think any authoring tools have been developed for 6.0 yet.
On top of that creating custom VIBs seems a little above my head. Like what is a dependency?

  • What is difference between ESXi and vSphere?

    Hi All,
Can anyone guide me to findout the difference between Esxi and vSphere?
    Any link ? Any document?
    Best Regards,
    Ashish Barot.

    Dear Ashish,
I use to get the same question when I started learning VMware. Let me make an attempt to convey my thoughts and let me know if they have helped you.
    What is vSphere ?
vSphere is suite of products packaged shipped by VMware virtualization company, which includes products. Like VMware ESXi hypervisor, VMware vCenter Server, etc.
    VMware ESXi ?
ESXi or hypervisor is bare metal OS which virtualizes x86 server hardware. You use ESXi ( OS ) installation  media to install OS on top of hardware just like you install any other OS like Windows or Linux
Once you have VMware ESXi installed on a x86 server hardware I is ready to virtualized. What does it mean ? - It means you can now use same server to create , configure, run more than one virtual machines and install required Operating systems within Virtual Machines they are referred as Guest Operating systems which could be Windows or Linux etc
Further, vCenter server is another VMware Product shipped in vSphere bundle that helps you manage one or more ESXi servers from a centralized location.
I am hoping this answers your both queries.
Please let me know if that helps you and if you need any further clarification I will be glad to discuss with you further.
    Virtually,
    vAseem

  • PRIME Infrastructure OVA co-residency with CUCM on UCS

    Hallo All.
Has anyone installed the PRIME Infrastructure OVA alongside CUCM on a UCS?
I've been looking at this document

Also, the CUCM I am installing alongside is v8.5

The PI documentation is lagging a bit - the only requirements for the current release are what's in the Quick Start Guide here.
There is no requirement for dedicated cores. As long as your VM meets the hardware specification of the QSG, your installation should be OK. (Of course, it doesn't hurt to provide more than the minimum requirements.)

  • MCS 7800 Series Lab?

    Hello,
We have recently upgraded a hodge-podge of MCS 7835 servers.  Some I1's, some I2's, and a single I3.
I was hoping to cannibalize all the RAM and HDD's to one server and make a lab/tools box.  For this, ESXi seems to be the best fit - however, I can't seem to get ESXi running on these boxes!
The BIOS configuration is quite scant... so I'm not sure if this machine is even capable of ESXi.  Based on the actual hardware specs, it should be capable... but perhaps there's some limitation of the motherboard or other hardware?
I was able to get ESXi 5.0 installed, but honestly I have no clue what made the difference.  I tried virtual DVD thru the out of band management interface (IBM's IMM), I tried a physical DVD and a USB key.  All would result in simply a black screen.  I could see the disc being accessed (all 3 types!) but it would not boot.
Eventually, I did get the physical disc to boot and I installed ESXi.  Now, whenever I reboot the box I'm met with that same dreaded black screen.  Worst part is, I don't even see the RAID configuration stuff - which makes me think this failure is beyond ESXi... but I could be wrong.
So has anyone done this before?  Is there some special caveats/steps I'm missing?  Would love to turn this old MCS box into something useful.  Thanks!!

I made some progress this morning.  If I boot the ESXi install disc, and then tell it to boot to 'local disk' instead of the installer, it actually works, I can run ESXi.
But seemingly every selection from the BIOS fails.  I'll keep poking at it, but this is just strange.
    Here's the boot order:
    http://i.imgur.com/72jAY.png
and here's the sad screen after it runs thru that order:
Again, if I use the ESXi install disk and select "boot from local disk" I am able to boot ESXi.  What gives?  The 'ESXi boot' option in the boot order was a 'custom' boot option I made.  Not sure where to go with this...
