  • CUCM 8 in VMWare for testing. Is it legal and if yes where can I get it?

I would like to do a test installation of CUCM 8 in a lab environment on VmWare ESX server.
I see that some people have done this.
Is this legal and if yes where can I get the installation files?
    Regards.

It has a demo license with 150 DLUs
The other option would be to get the NFR kit for 8.0 which gives you a lot more,
    It's available from marketplace

  • Problems with IP Phones registration to CUCME on SG200-50P

Problems with IP Phones registration to CUCME on SG200-50P
    System setup:
    - Router Cisco 2811 with IOS 12.4(24)T5 Advanced IP Services, CUCME 7.1, DHCP Server
       with HWIC-4ESW
    - Switches:
       - old - SLM224P
       - new - SG200-50P (SLM2048PT), OS v1.3.2.02
    - IP Phones 7911 and 7931, OS v8.4.2
One VLAN (for desktops and IP Phones) and one IP subnet, no voice VLAN.
    Network diagram:
    C2811---HWIC-4ESW---SWITCH---IPPhones
    Problem description:
    1. In the old setup with SLM224P everything works fine.
Connected phones almost immediately (1-2 sec. after power up) get ip address, configuration and registers to CUCME.
    2. When switch is changed to new SG200-50G:
       - ip phones get their ip address and tftp configuration very slowly - about 10-20 seconds
       - ip phones cant register to CUCME at all. On the router with SCCP debugging turned on there is no sing of registration attempt
       - after reconnecting the old SLM224P situation backs to normal
Things that have been checked or tried without success:
    - ports speed and duplex auto, correct detection - although not tested with manual settings
    - CDP/LLDP on/off
    - smartport mode auto and most static settings, also with disabled smartport
    - power cycle / reset
    - spanning tree and port security settings
    - solutions from that post - https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2232161
None of the above methods worked.
The only action that allowed ip phones to register was changing smartport role to static IPPhone + Desktop.
After that when phone was disconnected and then reconnected the problem exists again - no registration (IP Phone status DECEASED in CUCME). Same with power cycle/reset.
    Please advice.
    Thanks in advance.

1 - You have created the voice vlan?
Nope, flat network, one ip subnet (10 hosts and 10 phones)
2 - Have you set a phone on an untagged access port for the voice vlan to see if it works?
Yep, phones are connected to untagged access ports of the one and only vlan
3 - Have you tried to set the auto voice vlan on the switch so it dynamically assigns the role for ip phone + desktop?
Not sure about auto voice vlan setting, although there was no triggers to AVV - no static voice vlan, no CDP/VSDP advertisements of voice vlan.
We've tested static and auto smartport roles (independently of auto voice vlan feature) with successful auto-detection.
The switch was pretty much in default out-of-the-box config (beside management parameters).
4 - When rebooting the switch, you did ensure to save the start up to running config?
    Yes, running to startup
5 - Have you manually set spanning tree PORT FAST for the phone ports?
No, we haven't tested that. But portfast should be set automatically for the desktop and ip phone smartport roles.

  • CUCM 8.6.2 and AD LDAP SYNC

We have an issue where we can loging and sync all users but then we can not log in as those users.  We are trying to reserach whether this is related to the LDAP user rights, firewall, etc.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Chris:
Thanks for the input.  We do have the LDAP configured,  we are using LDAPS.  It is looking like port 636 form the CUP server is trying to reach out to the AD server so we are opening up that port to test if that is out issue.  636 is open from CUCM to AD but not CUP to AD.

  • CUCM 8.6.2 Not Deleteing Old Backups

Have set "Number of backups to store on Network Directory" to 1
backup user has permissions to delete (tested with sftp client)
but backup still keeps old backups.
    thanks

    Hi
You'll need to review the logs either on CUCM (DRF logs) or on the SFTP server. I'd start with the SFTP server, try to see what requests are failing or if CUCM is not requesting that the files be deleted at all.

  • CUCM 8.6(2) migration problem with external calls

    Hello all.
Yesterday we have migrated our telephone infrastructure from CM4.x to CUCM8.6(2), after some weeks of tests.
Yesterday night all seems to work properly, all phone updated and registered, external calls going out and in.
But from this morning, with all users at work, it appears a strange problem, that until now I couldn't solve: randomly all external calls go down.
I can't address this problem, since gateways (all cisco 2811 routers) are the same and with same configuration as yesterday.
All thing that I can think is that router that seems to cause the problem is configured not with mgcp by cucm, but with h323 route inside the router.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Daniele

    GW says normal call clearing.
But, maybe I've addressed the problem.
I've found a bug fixed into latest cucm release (8.6(2a)SU1) that say "h.323 calls improperly disconnected".
So I'm trying to upgrade from 8.6(2a) to 8.6(2a)SU1, but process fails :-(
I've tried from a dvd and also loading iso image from sftp, but after few minutes appears an error

    Hi Tirtha,
Thanks a lot for your contact. I agree with Manish and You that is necessary restart the Tomcat service, it can be causing the problem. About the DNS, is a problem, but, I don´t believe that there are any relationship about lowavalaiblememoryvirtual. I did the test about DNS and not was possible identify where is the problem.

Gordon's remark is not on the fact that you cannot do that, his remark is on the fact that the moment you do this, you lose all Cisco support. If this is only for a lab and you want to fool around and change settings, go for it.
If this is a production system, you've just lost all Cisco support on that VM.
We don't support any method for root access other than reaching Cisco TAC, and they asking you to generate the root account for logs or to fix something. Any change under root access not directed by Cisco, will also turn your system into a not supported system. Obviously, creating your own root account, and making changes on your own, has the same outcome.
Since you're on VMware workstation, I assume this is only for lab/testing, as that is also not a supported platform.

  • CUCM 8.6.2 - Doubt about recommendated FTP to collect CDR

    Hi Guys,
I Would like know if there are any list recomendated or validate software about FTP to collect CDR in CUCM and the same question to Operation System.
    Thanks,
    Wilson

There are many software avaialble but recommendation/suggestion i can see this.
Cisco uses the following servers for internal testing. You may use one  of the servers, but you must contact the vendor for support:
    •Open SSH (refer to http://sshwindows.sourceforge.net/)
    •Cygwin (refer to http://www.cygwin.com/)
    •Titan (refer to http://www.titanftp.com/)
Note For  issues with third-party products that have not been certified through  the CTDP process, contact the third-party vendor for support.

  • CUCM 8.6.2 - SURL Buttons Issue related to Extension Mobility

    Hello Guys,
we are running a CUCM 8.6.2.22900-2 with the extension mobility service. One the user device profiles we have applied several third application services via SURL buttons.  Actually I though it does not matter, what device type I choose during the UDP Creation. The Buttons should appear on every model, which support SURL.
When I log into a 8945 with a 9971 user device profile, the SURL buttons do not show. It only works, if I create a dedicate UDP Profile with the 8945 type as base. The same for other models of the 89er/99er Series.
Can you help? Is this a bug?
    Thanks.

    Chris:
Thanks for the input.  We do have the LDAP configured,  we are using LDAPS.  It is looking like port 636 form the CUP server is trying to reach out to the AD server so we are opening up that port to test if that is out issue.  636 is open from CUCM to AD but not CUP to AD.

  • CUCM 8.6.2 upgrade to CUCM 10.5

    Hi,
I have to upgrade a virtualized CUCM cluster (PUB, SUB1, SUB2, TFTP) version 8.6.2 SU3 to version 10.5.
As per documentation this should be a direct refresh upgrade and no need of PCD to do it.
Based on the documentation the main steps of the upgrade are:
-changing the OS to RHEL 6 (64-bit) and the Network Adapter from "Flexible" to "VMXNET 3” for the VM (shut down the VM and perform the changes)
    -run ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn.
    -run ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.1.cop.sgn
-run the 10.5 ugrade file in following order: PUB, TFTP, SUB1, SUB2
The existing 8.6.2 OVA, 7500 users is using 2 vCPU and 80GB for each vdisk (total of 160GB).
The 10.5 OVA, 7500 users requires 1 vCPU and 110GB for the vdisk.
Does anybody know if I have to run the ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.1.cop.sgn to increase the space to 110GB on each vdisk  (even if the total size is 160GB on 2 vdisks which is more then 110GB required on 10.5 OVA)?
Cisco engineer said that this is not possible as well that I can not change the OS to RHEL 6 (64-bit) on the existing server/VM (ESXi 4.1 U3.
He recommends to create a new VM using the new OVA and use the DRS and restore process for performing the upgrade.
    Any input/advise will be appreciated!
    Thanks.

The success to any upgrade is planning. The customer type bank or not doesn't not really matter. What is crucial is your willingness to do due diligence to  make this as smooth as possible..
Here are the things you  need to do in the order described
    1. Read your documentation. Very crucial. CUCM10.5 is a major change on all others.
You need to start by reviewing the upgrade guide, release notes, and new and changed documentation for all the steps and considerations you need to take into account for this upgrade.
NB: The upgrade guide for IM and P is merged with that of CUCM and here is the link for it..
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/upgrade/10_0_1/CUCM_BK_U4214F9D_00_upgrade-guide-cucm-100.html
    Release notes found here:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/10_5_1/CUCM_BK_CE15D2A0_00_cucm-release-notes-1051.html
    2. Plan for your license migration. Usually this involves two steps
    a. Use cisco LCU (license count utility tool) to generate license report on your existing cluster. This can be downloaded from cco.filename is LCUZIP-Ver9.1.2.zip
Ensure that you install any unsed DLU and license PAKS on your cluster before you run this..
    b. Next email this file obtained from lcu (this is a csv file) tool cisco licensing team [email protected]. This will confirm that your service contracts is in order prior to requesting new licenses for 10.5
    c. Login in Prime License Manager after successfully migrated from 8.6 to 10.5
Use the following procedure to generate a license request.
Log in to Cisco Prime License Manager.
From the Licenses > Fulfillment page, select Generate License Request from the drop-down list under
    Other Fulfillment Options.
The License Request and Next Steps window appears. Copy the selected text to your clipboard or click save it to a file on your PC and send to [email protected] to get permanent licenses
    3. Document the steps you will  use for the upgrades. You can send a draft here and I will be happy to review this with you.
Ensure that you write down step by step what you will do on the day. The upgrade guide should be used to write down what you will do on the day. This is a very long upgrade, hence you need to document in detail what you will be doing.
    4. Contact the relevant team to get your ESW/UCSS contract numbers. You need this to login to PUT to download your media. I was doing an upgrade recently and realised that the customers ESW contract has expired..So this is crucial.
    Upgrade tasks
PCD is your best bet. Install PCD on your Esxi host. Just create a new VM for it. It makes things much easier for you..If you don't have spare capacity to create new VM then do it manually
    5. Before you begin..Take a back up of your cluster.
    6. VM machine sizing.
Please refer to cucm10.5 ova readme file, found on CCO. Depending on the OVA template you used for your cucm8.6, you may need to change the vm setings prior to upgrade. This is because the disk size and cpu requirements is different for cucm10.5 on some ova templates.
6a. You will need to change the vm adapter settings on your VM. This is documented in the cucm10.5 ova. Your best option is to use esxi powercli. You can download this from VMware website provided you have a valid service contract.
6b. You will need to change your guest operating system to RHEL6. This is also documented in the 10. 5 OVA
    7. If your 8.6 cluster is running on VM at the moment, then just do a direct upgrade to 10.5.
NB: before you upgrade you will need to install the ff cop file on all the servers in the cluster
    ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn
After this upgrade your cluster starting with cucm. The upgrade guide will tell you the order of the upgrade..
    7. Once upgrade is completed, perform the post upgrade tasks.
    8. Develop a detailed test plan. Ensure all critical component of your customer is covered in the test plan. Test features that are critical to them
    9. Finally, ensure your CV is updated. In case you need to look for another job if everything breaks: (lol)
    Answer to your questions:
"As per what I see, an easy option would be to create a new virtual machine and use a DRS? but, would it work if I create the DRS on CUCM 8.6 and use it on 10.5?"
---You may create a new VM or adjust VM settings as I already discussed. If you want to create a new VM, then you will create VM with cucm10.5 ova, install cucm 10.5 on it.
You will then upgrade your current 8.6 to 10.5, take a DRS back up and go and do a DRS restore on the new 10.5 you have installed on the new VM. You cant restore 8.6 to 10.5.
"What happens to presence server? I understand I have to upgrade it too but, will the configuration be transferred to CUCM 10.5 (I mean, services associated with the menus that originally were on presence 8.6)?"
---Yes IM and P needs to match the cucm version. Yes the configuration will be transferred. You don't need to do anything. Please read the upgrade guide carefully.
"If all of the apps are on 8.6, do we need to upgrade everything to 10.5 at the same window?"
---For CUCM and IM and P, yes you have to upgrade them at the same time. The versions must match. It is advisable that you have unity connection on same version too, but not critical. I believe 8.6 unity connection will work with cucm10.5 ( I haven't checked this, so confirm it yourself)
The upgrade is a refresh upgrade. So it does take a long time and there are several reboots. The publisher is the one that takes the longest amount of time. The subscriber is about half the time it takes for the Pub to upgrade. You should be fine with a weekend maintenance widow. Friday evening to Sunday.
"If upgrade fails, can I still go back to 8.6?" Yes as long as you do not use the "free common space cop file" This is discussed in the upgrade guide as well.
It looks daunting, but if you do your home work, you will be fine and we are here to help and assist you all the way

  • Jabber for Windows Login failed with - "Must change at Next Login" for CUCM Authentication

Jabber for Windows users cannot login when "User Must Change at Next Login" is selected in the CUCM credential Policy
    I found this Bug-ID: CSCuh84476
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuh84476
We use Jabber for Windows 9.7.4!
I just want to know if there are other users have the same problem and which workaround they applied.
I’m currently testing a User with different Policy credentials (Credentials expire after 1 day).
I think this will also lead to a “username or password wrong”-popup but tomorrow I will see it myself ;)
The planed workaround for us will be to set the “User Must Change at Next Login ” option and the users first have to login at UCM-Userpage to change their initial password.
BTW: Maybe somebody from Cisco know when this get fixed?
    Best regards

J4W does rely very heavily on DNS, you should at least all required entries to hosts and lmhosts.
How are your servers defined under system -> server??
Are you able to log into UCMuser page??
Have you properly configured all user/device/line association, and created the necessary service profiles???

  • Cisco DX650 CUCM registration over VPN

    Hi
i've installed a CUCM 9.1.2 cluster with Cisco 8945s, Cisco 9971s all running SIP Protocol.    We have introduced the Cisco DX650 into the voice network, and all features are working normal on the Local LAN.   We are now testing the DX650 for a remote worker.   the Problem i'm seeing is that the DX650 will VPN into the network, email, Jabber, Calendar, Internet all work fine and is on the network via VPN.   the one issue is that the DX650 will not register with Call Manager.  we have allowed all the necessary ports through the firewall.   i've tested with Cisco IP Communicator and it registers fine for the remote worker, but the DX650 will not register.
What can I do to troubleshoot this or see where it's getting hung up at?  I want to see logs which shows the DX650 making an attempt or not.
    Any ideas??

I am setting up my first Dx650 across the VPN and I am having the same problem. I used the exact same Anyconnect path and account I use for my iPhone Jabber instance but the DX will not register. If I move it into the PtoP VPN network, it registers just fine. But when on an open internet with Anyconnect, the phone won't register.
    What do I look at?

  • New Dial plan & Voice policies not taking effect with Polycom CX 600 Desktop Phone in production deployment, Worked fine in Testing

    Hi,
We are in the process of Migrating Cisco CUCM & Voice Gateway (From another vendor to Cisco).
The requirement is all internal calls between Cisco IP Phones & Lync to be flown through CUCM. Means internal extension to extension. Remaining all calls like Mobile, National, International, Toll Free, Emergency, Shared numbers calling to be routed
    to Cisco Voice Gateway.
We created the test dial plan, Voice policies, Route and assigned it to couple of user from Lync (2 extensions) and from Cisco side we have taken 2 IP Phones which is pointed to new CUCM. We tested all below scenarios, everything was working fine.
Lync to Lync Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Lync to Cisco Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Cisco to Lync Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Lync to Hotline Numbers (66XX, 68XX Numbers) – Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Shared Numbers starting with 600 (Verified the number 600535353) - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Emergency numbers & Toll Free Numbers (Not verified the emergency Number as we decided to do it at end) - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Landline Numbers – Any 7 digit numbers - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to National Numbers – Starting with 3,4,6,7,8 followed by 7 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Mobile Phones – Starting with 05 contains exactly 10 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to International Numbers – Starting 00 contains at least 11 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
All Incoming calls – From Landline, Mobiles, International Numbers - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Call Transfer – To another Lync Extension, Cisco Extension, Landline, Mobiles, International Number
Conference – with another Lync Extension, Cisco Extension, Landline, Mobiles, International Number
Call Forwarding – To another Number, Voice mail
    Response Groups
Click to call – As if user try to place a call by directly click the number from Outlook, Websites will be in E.164 format
Dial in meeting – Conference calls are works fine
But when we roll out to the production we are facing issues listed below
    1) The phones we used during testing are working which is using same dial plan, Voice policy, Route, PSTN Usage. But from production most of the phones are not working (using the same dial plan, voice policy, Route). Also Problem is only with external calls
as the internal calls are working fine between Cisco & Lync even in production (Routed through CUCM) NOTE: All incoming calls are working fine (From international, local, national, extension)
    2) How long its going to take for Lync to push the new voice policies, Dial plans to the Phones?
    3) Is there a way to forcefully update the policies, dial plans to the Phone?
    4) Also the environment is using over 100 dial plans, so I just copied and pasted the Normalization rules that we tested and working fine.  Most of the dial plans are assigned to individual users as every dial plan contains a normalization rule for
international calling with Unique Prefix (Example: User John international Normalization rules says #1234#00#CountrycodePhonenumber, means if John has to place the international call he need to dial #1234# followed by 00 and then country code, then actual
phone number). In this case how long its take for the users / phones to get updated with new dial plans?
    6) Is it recommended to use multiple dial plans ? What are the best practices?
    5) Also calls are working fine one & failing on subsequent tries. Means when I dial first 1 or 2 times. Call fails, but when I try 3rd time and subsequently it works. After some again there will be failure during 1 or 2 attempts. Why is it so?
    6) After updating the dial policies, voice Route, Voice policies If i reboot all the phones from Switch, Will the changes take effect immediately?
    7) Also when some one calling from mobile or external number to Lync extensions they cant here any Dial tones or caller tunes? Its working fine when they call Cisco Extensions. Also to Lync its working if we dial in E.164 Format, if we dial like 023XXXXX
format its not working. Any guess about this issue?
Waiting for some one to help,
    Best regards
    Krishna
    Thanks & Regards Krishnakumar B

    Hi,
    1.  As all incoming call worked normally, please double check outgoing ports for Lync FE Server and Mediation Server.
You can refer to the link of “Ports and protocols for internal servers in Lync Server 2013” below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx
    2.  When an administrator makes a change to Lync Server (for example, when an administrator creates a new voice policy or changes the Address Book server configuration settings) that change is recorded in the Central Management store.
In turn, the change must then be replicated to all the computers running Lync Server services or server roles.
So it may not replication completely immediately.
    3.  You can run the following cmdlet with Lync Server Management Shell on FE server to
forcibly replicate information to a computer: Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication
    4.  As you used over 100 dial plans, it may be the issue of multiple dial plans. Would you please tell us why you created different dial plan for individual user with unique prefix?
    5.  Multiple dial plans and undue normalization rules may cause call fail. You can double check the normalization rule.

Please use the link be low to collect cucm traces and use the advanced editor on the forum (located on top right hand corner of the discussion widnow) to attach the trace
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-29901
Ensure you collect the trace from the folowing
    1. the server that the phone is registered to
    2. If this server is different from the server in the cucm group of the sip trunk, then you need to also collect traces from the server (s) in the cucm group assiged to the sip trunk that connects to the 3rd party cluster...
NB: If you have three servers in the cucm group of the sip trunk, you have to collect the trace from all three servers. This is because calls are dsitributed in a round robin fashion to servers in a sip trunk...
FInally before you send the trace over, please ensure the calling and called numbers are present. Also include the time of the test call
