CUCM + VMware better on 64-bit Windows XP or Windows 7?

HI there.
I did a cursory search for this and didn't find much. I have a feeling it may have been discussed so apologies if this is a duplicate post.
I'm prepping for the CCIE lab and I've always ran my CUCM 7x on my 64-bit Windows XP so I can install 16gb ram.
I recently upgraded a new desktop that has Windows 7 on it.
I'm wondering if anyone knows whether CUCM on VMware runs any better on XP or 7 as long as RAM and CPU are the same?
Is there are more efficient way that VMware works?
I'm currently using VMware Workstation 6.5.0  (I have a feeling someone is going to suggest ESX)
Finally, to settle an age-old debate amongst my Cisco friends, when running VMware, is it best to choose ONE or TWO processors?
I've heard many pple say many things without really a satisfactory answer.
TIA!

Thanks Chris,
I agree with you RAM memory is essentially the biggest bottleneck in VMware.
However, I discussed this with a few folks and one of them said the following:
"Use 2003 Server Enterprise, 32-bit. It's faster than 64-bit."
I was surprised by this comment. I think he also said something that "VMware is actually optimized for 32-bit, not 64"
I'm not sure how true that is. Perhaps it was true 3-4 years ago.
So this goes back to my other question, which version of VMware is optimized for 64-bit? And, is it necessarily faster to run CUCM on 64-bit computer or 32-bit.
The RAM question has been resolved. Now it's just an issue of optimizing VMware with the OS.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Vmware beta for OSX

Purchased and installed parallels for the old lady so she can watch her DRM windows media player live tv streams / downloads on her Mac mini intel from Europe and Africa.
www.kuduclub.com needs a few tweaks but it is working. ActviceX ???
Had issues with video playback being blocky / lagging even with the files downloaded and played from virtual HD.
Presumable 8mb video bios used by Parallels.
Warra warra what has this to do with VMware Beta for Mac = never knew or could find vmware for mac / info about it even though it was released in August 2006 for testing.
The briliant people at the reg relisted it.
Hopefully Vmware beta will work with the video playback and I can get a refund on my parallels copy for Mac.

  • SB Live ! 24 bit external USB and windows seven blue screen

;SB Li've ! 24 bit external USB and windows seven blue screen+ hi! i have installed windows seven 64 bit build 7600 RTM on my PC and i wanted to install also my USB sound card which is SB Li've ! 24 bit and i downloaded the beta drivers from creative. instalation was really fast and smooth but at the end i've got a message that the program has stopped to response and i have closed it. i did a system reboot and i have seen that the sound card has been installes succesfull and also the control panel. Sound was clear and really nice, all worked fine but sometimes im getting a blue screen on my windows with a code STOP 0x000000E and then a file named usbuhc.sys was the problem. i think that the sound card is the thing that is doing the blue screen becouse i have only a keyboard, mouse and the sound card SB Li've ! installed as USB.
Is it normal that i have those troubles on my PC ? is it my sound card my windows seven problem ? what should i do now ?
at the moment i have turned off the sound card so i will see if i get a blue screen or not.
    thanks for any reply

Just in case. I have two pc's one with windows 7 professional (32 bits) and another with windows 8.1 (64 bits). Can I use, with one license, as I'm the owner and only user, acrobat standard XI?. Thank you in advance

Yes, the license allows 2 installs for the owner's personal use. You can check this in the license agreement if you wish.

  • Is there a way to open photoshop cs6 in 32-bit mode on a windows 7 64-bit system.

I was wondering if there is a way to open photoshop cs6 in 32-bit mode on a windows 7 64-bit system, because photoshop won't recognize the pen pressure on my graphics tablet (yiynova msp19u) I read that some users got it to work in 32-bit mode on macs, and all my other programs like zBrush, art rage, sketch book pro recognize the pen pressure on the tablet.

well I am going to assume that the application marked photoshop is the 32-bit application, since the other on is marked 64-bit and I don't see one 32-bit. in any case it still not recognizing pen pressure and i have the newest drivers. The only thing I can think of now is that wacom drivers are interfering with it some how since they don't get along, although I was pretty sure i got rid of all wacom software.
Sigh, it's starting to look like I have to format my computer

  • Intel Matrix Storage Manager disables Windows Update and Windows Validation on Windows 7 64-bit

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad R61 8918CTO on which I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit) on a new Seagate Momentus XT 750GB drive. The installation was trouble-free, as were all of the post-install Windows Updates.
Then I installed ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 and used it to install most of the available Lenovo updates. Big mistake. I'll spare you a detailed account of the hours I wasted troubleshooting, rolling back to previous restore points, and doing more troubleshooting, but it turns out that installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver v. 8.9.2.1002 caused Windows Update and Windows Validation to fail.
Symptoms: Windows Update control panel can't check for updates and reports that the Windows Update service isn't running when it actually is. Online Windows Validation fails and the standalone Windows Validation utility won't install. Microsoft programs that require a validated copy of Windows (e.g., Microsoft Security Essentials) won't install.
Solution: Roll back the driver for the relevant SATA controller to the previous driver.
I've reinstalled ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 and hidden the proposed Intel Matrix Storage Manager update; since then, I've used it to complete my Lenovo updates without issue.
I hope this post will help other people with this problem find the solution a lot faster than it took me!

This happened after installing a new advanced format drive with 4k-byte sectors, I'd guess.  If the storage driver doesn't report the physical sector size to Windows, update fails.
I just ran across this myself (again) putting Win 7 on a T400.
I don't know why this is still going on.  It may be that the update lists for older machines still have pre-AF-drive drivers listed.
FYI, another fix is going to the Intel site and installing the latest Matrix Storage Manager AHCI driver.  This may be more desirable than rolling back to an older driver in some cases.

  • Bit Locker Implementation in Windows 8.1 machine using Windows server 2008 r2 server group policy.

is it possible to enable the bit locker only for windows 8.1 machines through windows 2008 r2 server group policy ?
    Thanx and Regards,
    Shanif

    Hi Shanif,
    Yes, we can do this.
Regarding how to enable Bitlocker via group policy, the following article can be referred to as reference.
Cannot Save Recovery Information for Bitlocker in Windows 7
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/02/16/cannot-save-recovery-information-for-bitlocker-in-windows-7.aspx
After configuring the settings, we can use security filtering or WMI filtering to apply the policy to specific computers.
Regarding this point, the following blog can be referred to for more information.

  • BUG! Not system locale Filenames support for 32-bit applications error in Windows 8.1 x64 and other microssoft x64 OS-s.

BUG! Not system locale Filenames support for 32-bit applications error in Windows 8.1 x64.
All Windows x64 (XP,2003,2007,Vista,7,8) have no support for not system locale filenames|foldernames for all 32-bit applications. I think it is BUG!
For example,  it is possible to read files|folders with French or Chinese in English locale windows installed, rename it, but it is not possible open it, edit or delete. (ERRORS: File not found OR Unknown format)
With using 64-bit programs no such problems. How does it works and how can I fix this? Is it problem with encoding in translating kernel instructions for 32-bit apps in x64 Windows OS's? Whether there are
solutions to this problem OR some hacks|fixes?

    Hi,
Have you installed the language package for French or Chinese?
If no, please download the language package and install them.

  • How to restore Adobe Flash Player for 32 bit Internet Explorer of Windows 8.1 64 bit?

Default Windows 8.1 64 bit install runs Internet Explorer 11 32 bit and all it's features, but slight disturbance for install of integrated applications runs user in such a trouble of loopback which he or she cannot escape, because problem application doesn't
runs for Windows or for it's programs, won't show it's Windows existence but wouldn't allow install of it's new software, I could only install complete new program for Windows program to run desired object.
I am using Rocket browser for Internet Explorer 11 32 bit because of problem of Adobe Flash Player uninstall or install.
But how many applications do I have to search, trial and if at all successful install for use because of problems of such applications of Windows?

As we have reviewed in other threads on the same topic. Internet Explorer for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 make use of separate management and content processes which on the desktop in a 64 bit environment are 64 bit and 32 bit respectively.
This is explained here on the IEInternals blog.
In most scenarios, the multiple processes are entirely transparent to the browsing experience. 32 bit addons continue to load and interact as expected with the content processes in which they are run and web scripts which detect browser architecture continue
to function, detecting a 32 bit browser.
In the Modern UI experience, the scenario is even more transparent as support for addons such as Flash and JavaScript are integrated into the 64 bit processes and updated through standard Windows Updates.

Answer for problem simply Got it !
Internet Explorer 11 needs websites 'Trusted', add all pages in need of running addons, and rest Windows operating system handles.
Now I am listening to songs on Windows Media Player (T3 skin) from a website which earlier messaged Adobe Flash Player not installed refusing playing songs, but now running programs without installing Adobe Flash Player.

  • Can I run 32 bit firefox on my Windows 7, 64 bit and how ? Flash player loads slow.

Can I run 32 bit Firefox on my Windows 7, 64 bit and how do I do that? Flash player loads videos slowly. You tube videos are mostly loading slowly or hanging up. It seems to have happened after the last Firefox update.

According to website I have Flash Player installed but I cannot run a program (BBC iPlayer DeskTop) that requires 64 Bit Flash player Any ideas?
Does that program require the Flash Player ActiveX Control, or the plugin?  If you only have the ActiveX Control (for Internet Explorer) installed, then you may also need the plugin (for other browsers).  Get it from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

Try to delete printer in Control Panel and re-add:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

  • Using J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 on Windows 98 and Windows Me

I know J2EE isn't supported on Windows 98 and Windows Me, but like many others I've been able to get J2EE 1.3.1 and J2EE 1.4 Beta to work quite well on Windows 98 and Windows Me. However, no such luck when I tried to do the same with J2EE 1.4 Beta 2. Basically, after downloading j2eesdk-1_4-beta2-windows-eval-app.zip, extracting it into C:\j2ee_app_win, and double clicking setup.exe (or setup.dos.exe for that matter), the setup GUI doesn't appear. Has anybody gotten passed this point and gotten it to work?

Basically, J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 setup.exe doesn't work on Windows 98 or Windows Me even with 256 MB of memory. You'll see it appear on the task bar and then disappear right away. The setup task keeps running, so you have to kill it with Ctrl-Alt-Del.
However, J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 does work quite well on Windows XP Home Edition even though it's not supported by Sun. So if you don't have Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000, you can at least try it.
For help installing and getting started with J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 on Windows XP, see http://groups.msn.com/J2EETools.
