CUDA acceleration and Aja Kona LHi output on Mac

Hi,  I hope some of you can answer my question. I'm getting mixed information right now. So can I have CUDA acceleration turned on when outputtin picture through Aja Kona Lhi? Or is it so that CUDA and I/O devices such as Blackmagic/Aja cards don't work together?  Best Tapio

Those Mac Pro's should be fine with the Nvidia cards. The new ones are not approved with them and are not supported according to Apple. It took Blackmagic several months to get the driver worked out to allow the MPE in a Blackmagic project so I am not suprised if AJA is still working on it. I will say that we have not tried the MPE with the Blackmagic on the Mac side. We have many times on the PC side and it works fine as does Matrox.

  • Aja Kona Lhi - Sound Control for MacOs

    Hi Everyone,
We have Final Cut Pro - Aja Kona Lhi - MAudio Bx5 - Mac Pro system. We are use the Aja Kona Lhi Analog Audio Out 1-2 for MAudio speakers. I want control the sound volume on the keyboard or macpro. Its possible ? If its possible how can we do it ?
    Best Regards.
    Thank you.

The ADVC 300 is more like $400.
Another option is the Matrox MXO2 mini.
For straight DV/ Standard def capture the ADVC 300 does a better job.
However, the Matrox box also gives you the ability to send an HD signal to an external monitor - which the ADVC300 will not do.

  • Aja Kona LHI external video issues

I have Afters Effects CS5.5 and a Kona LHI, and I am unable to turn off or change the settings of my external video preview. It is always outputting 1080i. This started when I upgraded to CS5.5 and Mac Lion OS. I have the same hardware as when I had CS4 and Leopard and never had this issue. Final Cut Pro is outputting fine and I have verified my AJA Kona setting are correct. Any help would be appriciated.

After hearing from AJA I reinstalled the KNOA drivers and now Final Cut Pro or Premiere will not output through the KONA LH at all while AE is open. When AE is closed everything else works fine. This is the error message I received from Final Cut Pro 7.
"Unable to open the specified Video Output device.
It may be in use by another application, incorrectly connected or may be conflicting with a sound device."

  • Premiere Pro Audio Slipping with AJA Kona LHI

I have noticed that when I run Premiere Pro CC (Latest updates) My audio playing back on the Kona and on the desktop will progressively slip out of sync when my Kona LHI card is enabled through the video output options. The sync issue goes away when the card is unchecked. The initial release of PRCC did not have this problem, but when the updates were issued soon after, the slipping issue cropped up. Anybody have these problems? Any suggestions?

I realize this is a year old but was this issue resolved?
For what its worth I've had/have similar problems with Premiere Pro CC and the AJA Kona LHi card. Just call AJA support 1-530-271-3190 and speak to their tech support gurus. Their folks are awesome. I just tell them what I'm trying to do and they will stay on the line and help until you can get things running again. No fees for customer support, nothing to register for... just call them and ask for help and they will!
I wish more companies operated this way.

  • AJA Kona LHi to capture analog vid for hobbyist. Recommended?

I am a FCP amature / hobbiest and looking for a convienent way to capture analog (s-video, composite, component) video to my MAC-Pro and FCP.
I am looking for a good mixture of "good" and "cheap" (it's all relative I know... just generally speaking).
I am thinking about the AJA Kona LHi.  Any thoughts?  Remember... this is only a hobby for me.. no broadcast.  Other than the Kona LH(i,e,s) products.. what do you suggest?   I don't care if it's a card or a box.
    Your advice is greally appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and AJA Kona LH card...

    Hello,
I just installed the AJA Kona LH PCI-X HD capture card in the G5 2 Ghz dual.
I configured it, but when I go to the "System Settings - effects handling" of Final Cut Pro HD 4.5, I read that all the effects can only be handled by "Final Cut PRO HD": if I click on the selection menu, the only other available heading is "none": no AJA KONA!
This is for all the formats list (DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, DV - PAL, etc...).
So every think I do, FCP must render, and time flows...
    Can you help me?
    Thank you very much.

But we got this card especially for this reason: hardware acceleration.
I read that it has got this feature in this page:

    I don't know more.

  • Final Cut 6 and AJA Kona LHe

Ok, so we're upgrading all our edit bays at work to FCP Studio 2.
One of the bays in my dept. is having issues.
We have an AJA Kona LHe that outputs to a BETA SX deck.
Does anyone know if FCP 6 has issues with this card? So far, no combination of settings has made it work.
    Ideas?

we did install the new drivers (v4) and it still didn't work. Apparently, the IT guy here is going to call AJA later today. It's good to hear they have great tech support. I feel like noone does anymore.
When we upgraded my bay we had a codec issue and called Apple, they told us to start a new project from scratch.... It's one I've been building for years now. They weren't very helpful.
Thanks, I'll update this when I get more info on it/resolve it so others might get help when searching the forum!

  • PPro CS 5.5 and Kona LHi Card on Mac

    Hi all,
After a couple of years on FCP it looks like we're switching back to  PPro. I have a Kona LHi card on my MacPro 4.1, (2009) an NVidia GTX285  card and 16GB RAM. I have the latest 9.0.1 Drivers and am using the  latest AJA Adobe utilities.
I have major lagging issues within PPro 5.5 just moving clips around on  the timeline. My audio is very laggy and drops out on occasion, my video  is laggy and jittery when scrubbing the timeline and PPro's general  responsiveness is woeful and virtually unusable.
Am I missing something here? Is this a problem with the LHi card on the  Mac or is it something to do with the AJA Adobe utilities or the GTX285 card? I am at a  loss.
Any help or knowledge would be deeply appreciated.
    TIA,
    Alex Hawkins

    Hi Alex,
Good to see you post this.  I have the *exact same situation and hardware as you (same Kona board, graphics card, MacPro 4,1, etc...) - and I have been having many problems as well.  Was excited to switch over to PPro from FCP (and I'm sure this is going to happen much more frequently now that FCPx is a bust) and had heard of all the speed improvements.  But I have had trouble with sluggish timelines (dragging clips around in the timeline lags far behind the cursor) , sluggish editing, dropping audio from the Kona card during cuts.  I am about to have some more conversations with AJA about this and also keep searching out clues here on the forums.
My question to you:  what kind of footage are you editing that gives you issues?  For me, it is H.264 coming from my Canon 5D.  Is it happening with all different kinds of codecs and footage?  Can you be a little more specific about the issues? (ie when do you experience the sluggishness and the audio dropouts?  Does it happen if you disable the Kona player and just use the Adobe player instead?)
I can post more of my findings as I get more time.  Hopefully we can track this down.
    Thanks,
    Danny

  • Aja kona LHI

I have a new Kona card, but I got a new dvc pro deck with firewire do I still need the io card, I do have to deliver with closed captioning

That's a great card. If you ever need to uprez to HD that card will do a pretty good job. Do you use a external monitor? If not now you can. HDMI and component I/O. These are just a few examples of the LHi. Only you now if you need all the features. Take a look at the feature set on AJA website. Dont know about closed captioning. Does the card do this? I dont think it does.

  • QT vs MP4 Issues -  Mac PP CS5 - AJA Kona LHi - JVC GY-HM700U

I have sourced an hours worth of 1080i footage with my JVC HM700U  in the Quicktime format (Sony XDCAM-EX). This footage plays pay perfectly in Final Cut Pro with the Kona Card. In PP CS5, the footage stutters, has horrible audio issues, and is just not "ready for prime-time"
However, using the same camera, but sourcing footage in the MP4 format - PP CS5  plays out the files with no issues at all.  Is there a known bug with PP5 and Quicktime?  I know the AJA card is working fine, as it works with FCP.
I have installed all the latest drivers, software updates  and plug ins for both Premiere and Kona (updated within the past two days).
    Any ideas?

Yes, I am on a MAC -- The 64 bit Nature of PPCS5 certainly is a factor here. The interesting part of this for me is that none of these manufacturers really state this shortcoming in their marketing.  JVC says their workflow is seemless into both applications PPro and Final Cut.
AJA said they have not seen any issues with Quicktime and Premiere--- and Adobe has been promoting their acceptance of QT since last September.
It just doesnt work correctly.  Would love to hear if anyone else shares this experience.
One BIG positive so far-- The combination of The Mercury Engine and Cuda renders at lightning speed... I just rendered a 10 Minute H264 hi def movie in less than three minutes out of PPro -- blows away FCP as of now...

  • CUDA Acceleration and Scaling

I am running Premiere Pro CC on a Windows 7 core i5 with 16 gigs of ram.
I frequently need to produce both a Blu ray disk as well as a standard DVD. I am getting good results exporting as a mpeg 2 DVD and importing that into Encore as a timeline.
That export usually takes anywhere from 12-16 HOURS for a 2 hour sequence. I have a Nvidia GeForce GT230 card now which is not taking advantage of mercury playback.
Does anybody know if upgrading to a "supported" nvidia card would make any difference in these LONG render times?
I was considering something like a GeForce 600 or better or possibly a Quadro, probably with 2 gigs...
I have installed the 2014 Versions of both Premiere CC as well as AME but have not used them yet as I'm in the middle of a job.
Any insights out there would be appreciated

    Thanks Bill,
Yeah it's an HP 2009 computer with 4 cores, I see I can upgrade the CPU to a Intel Core i7-870 Processor 2.93 GHz 8 MB Cache Socket LGA1156 for about 250, and then the Ge Force for another 350..
Looks like I might be almost half way to a new computer...
I'm just on the fence as to whether the extra cost will be worth it in terms of render times...
    THANKS AGAIN!

  • Old AJA KONA card into new Mac Pro.

    Hi all
At the company where I am doing some editing, there oldest suite was run on a G5. Suddenly it started to turn itself off. After taking it into an apple store for repair they quite quickly turned around and said "This is an old G5 we can't repair it, but we will replace the machine with a new Mac Pro, for the price of the repair". Great!
However the the KONA LHe card that it was using looks like a normal PCI interface (or PCI-X), and it seems apple have done away with this, as this new model contains only PCIe slots. Is there a way of making it work? Does anyone know if apple do a spec with a PCI slot now? Is this KONA card completely useless now?
I know what the likely answer is, just thought i'd put the discussion out there.
    Neil

Sorry Shane. I did mean LH.
I always thought the card in the machine was a LHe card, so when the G5 starting turning itself off unexpectadly, and Apple couldn't repair it, they gave us a new machine for the price of the repair, I thought it would still be fine as the card is an LHe. I didn't know that it was an older model and the earlier generation Kona Cards were PCI-X.
Hey now I know the what e stands for at least. Although in the context of this company the Kona LH card is pretty much Obsolete!
    Thanks for comments.

  • CS5.5, 10 bit, AVCIntra, AJA Kona and GTX580 vs Quadro

I will be purchasing a new editing computer in june. I'm switching over from Final Cut Pro on a Mac. Why am I switching? For a lot of reasons, but suffice it to say, CS5.5 is really looking like a time saver, and seems to make good business sense overall. And being independent, I don't really care about conforming to any one dogmatic camp (FCP or Avid, and the like).
I'm working a lot with AVCIntra footage (10-bit) and client-provided 3D generated content (also 10-bit). I'll have an AJA Kona LHi (supporting 10-bit) installed.
I've read a lot on the GeForce vs. Quadro, and understand that there is not much advantage to a Quadro, other then the extra edge for 3D applications. And that Geforces are 8-bit and Quadro are 10-bit. So price wise, the Geforce 580 for CS5.5 is probably my best bet.
My main questions are: Does PProCS5.5 fully support 10-bit, end-to-end? And if the GeForce is only 8-bit (though I've glimpsed somewhere the 580 might support 10-bit), will it impact real-time MPE playback outputed on the AJA Kona card? With the AJA Kona LHi installed, does it matter at all that I have an 8-bit or a 10-bit GPU card?
On a side note, there is a GTC590 now, with dual GPUs. Anyone tested it yet with the hack? Or will it be the same problem as with SLI GeForces not being supported by PPro?
One a second side note, I know people ask a lot about the best hardware to use. I've read a lot of posts about them. Most of them are quite old posts. As of May 2011, Any recommendations on components? Such as motherboards, raid cards, GTX580 manufacturer, etc.? But I'm especially interested to find out if the 6-core 990X i7 is worth the investment, compared to the 2nd gen 4-core i7 2600K? I would presume yes. But have never seen real world tests. And would a dual Xeon truly be twice as fast? Investment wise, much like the Geforce vs Quadro issue, I'm not sure it's worth 3 times the price for most likely less then twice the speed. Any comments?
    Thank you all,

Actually I am trying to get an answer to your 10 bit question via the I/O device currently. I am verifying if the I/O device is independent of the OGL 10Bit query Adobe does for the 10bit draw or if the I/O device passes the query. If not then do you have to have a Quadro card installed even with the I/O devices. Once I have the info, I will post it for you.
The AJA drivers before the 5.5 update did not work completely with the hardware acceleration, so an AJA card would slow the MPE performance down if using an AJA preset and the card. I am unsure if that is still the case with the new 5.5 version however they don't show an update for 5.5 on their website. I would call and talk to AJA on that one.
The MPE does not support Multi GPU so the 590 would be slower than the 570 or 580.
The 990X is worth it if you work allot in AE or overclock. Also what codec is the 3D material you will be working with?
