This type of network contains only Cisco CME 3.1 or later systems and Cisco CallManager systems. The Cisco CME 3.1 or later release supports automatic detection of calls to and from Cisco CallManager using proprietary signaling elements that are included with the standard H.323 message exchanges. H323 Video conferencing over WAN
We have the following setup for a pilot Videoconferencing project running over the WAN. The video quality in general is not satisfactory.
1) Tandberg 880MXP registering to local gatekeeper. Another Tandberg 770MXP registering to the above gatekeeper.
2) The 770 MXP is located in a remote office, connected via a VPN link.
3) The available bandwidth is 1.2M and the link is not used much for data or voip, so we get about 1M always for video.
4) the WAN link is a ATM connection to the remote ISP, in the headquaters here the link bandwidth is 30M.
5) The tandberg 880 and 770 are on separate internal subnets.
Problem
1) The video quality even with a 256k video call is average with lots of pixalation and some packet drops.
2) The average delay is 40ms and avergae jitter is 8ms.
3) The endpoints register about 8% video packet loss/drop.
4) The call never drops, but constant packet loss occurs.
5) An iperf test run over the same link, showed a consistent 1M bandwidth with 0.01% packet loss in general.
We have tried various qos policies and also tried running without a VPN over GRE tunnel. But the quality is still unsatisfactory.
Side notes:
1) A call to other locations tends to be very good. Probably pinning the issue on the wan link. but we are unable to find the real cause.. especially with iperf tests working fine.
Any help, leads or directions would be extremely helpful.
Thanks
ManishHi,
iperf only shows packet loss, while the the endpoints are suffering from late packets also.
Are you doing qos pre-classification to mark the DSCP value in VPN outer header too ? That would give ISP a chance of applying some QoS to your video, at least they can be asked to do so.
Hope this helos, please rate post if it does! -
How to change CUE ip address?
Hi,
We moved to a new location and using comcast as ISP. I was setting up the phone system today and met a few problems.
1. First of all, all the phones are connected and working(total of 4), but I can only see 3 of them showing up in the CCA. Whats happening here?
2. I wanted to change the user name which appears on the phone using the CCA, CCA told me that the settings were successfully sent to UC520, I restarted the phone and uc520, but the names on the phones remain unchanged?
3. I forgot the password of the voicemail for one of the phone, and wanted to changed in the CUE. so I went to 10.1.10.1,but some comcast login page showed up instead of CUE. so I want to know how to change the IP address of CUE? I don`t know the CLI commands so please teach me if it can only be done with CLI. I have only used CCA in the past. Could this be the reason why for problem 1 and 2? I`m feeling wierd because all the phones can be used to call in/out.
my data vlan is 192.168.0.0 and voice vlan is 192.168.2.0 let me know if you need any other info.
need help urgently as I want to resolve this problem asap.
Thanks in advance.

endhow to change local ip address?Via an operating system command.
It's not the sort of thing an application should be doing at all. IP addresses these days are assigned via DHCP. Why would you want to change it from within an application? It would probably disconnect all sockets for all running applications, invalidate the login, all kinds of bad effects.
What is the actual requirement? -
I'm missing something here in this config....
If we dial 10 digits the call goes out the FXO port just fine, 911 gives us a fast-busy.
configs below along w/ the debugs.. weird thing is on the 911 call it appears to be changing the called number and calling number....

Thanks in advance,It works by restart the CME router and have a question the sip-ua output. I have two media streams but the 2nd shows "STREAM_IDLE". I think this is for g729 connected to CCM via h323 gk. Can I get an explanation why?

Can not foward into voicemail from outside call on CUE and CUCM 8.6
Dear Team,
I have CUE Utility and CUCM 8.6.
I can call from local, if user busy or go out office then call will foward to voice mail.It is ok.
But when i call from outside to my phone(direct line), then call can not foward to voice mail on CUE.
Please help me some solution.
Thanks.Hi nam,
A couple of things to check. Have you set the Forward Busy/No Answer "External"
on the DN config page in CUCM?
Are the calls coming in using a codec other than g.711?
Best Practices for Deploying Cisco Unity Express
• Each mailbox can be associated with a primary extension number and a primary E.164 number.
Typically, this number is the direct-inward-dial (DID) number that PSTN callers use. If the primary
E.164 number is configured to any other number, use Cisco IOS translation patterns to match either
the primary extension number or primary E.164 number so that the correct mailbox can be reached
during SRST mode.
• Each Cisco Unity Express site must be associated with a CTI route point for voicemail and one for
AA (if licensed and purchased), and you must configure the same number of CTI route points as
Cisco Unity Express ports licensed. Ensure that the number of sites with Cisco Unity Express does
not exceed the CTI scalability guidelines presented in the chapter on Call Processing, page 8-1.
• Cisco Unity Express is associated with a JTAPI user on Cisco Unified CallManager. Although a
single JTAPI user can be associated with multiple Cisco Unity Expresses in a system, Cisco
recommends associating each dedicated JTAPI user in Cisco Unified CallManager with a single
Cisco Unity Express.
• Calls into Cisco Unity Express use G.711 only. Cisco recommends using a local transcoder to
convert the G.729 calls traversing the WAN into G.711 calls. You can configure Cisco Unified
CallManager regions with the G.711 voice codec for intra-region calls and the G.729 voice codec
for inter-region calls.
• If transcoding facilities are not available at the Cisco Unity Express site, provision enough
bandwidth for the required number of G.711 voicemail calls over the WAN. Configure the Cisco
Unified CallManager regions with the G.711 voice codec for calls between the IP phones and Cisco
Unity Express devices (CTI ports and CTI route points).
• The CTI ports and CTI route points can be defined in specific locations. Cisco recommends using
location-based call admission control between Cisco Unified CallManager and Cisco Unity Express.
RSVP may also be used.

Uc560 - CUE Webinterface not reachable
Hello,
i have a problem with my UC560. Especially with the CUE Webinterface. After config my UC560 everthings working fine.
But the webinterface of the CUE is not reachable. I can ping the integtr. Service. Engine with IP 10.1.10.1. from my network.
A service-module integr.S.E. status reports -> everything OK. A seesion on CLI also connects and works.
Is there any idea ? help !!!

I have a similar issue. I know that there are many threads like this but this is the newest I found
I've wiped the preloaded configuration and now using the uc560 like a standard ISR. I've made a lot of tests and changes, using G0/0 and an IP for connecting to the LAN, or g0/1/0 as trunk/access port connecting to the LAN. I've ended up with the configuration I'm attaching. There is no way to have connectivity with the CUE. I've tried with and without VLANs (the file attached is with VLANs). NAT is irrelevant in my case since there is not anything to translate it's all a private routed network. I still cannot ping the ISE inf from inside the uc560 localy or the gateway address from inside the CUE.
This G0/1/3 seems to need some special configuration to be done in order to work. Do you know what is it?
It's also not possible to make the CUE to factory default. No initial setup wizard starts... nothing. No wizard needed for the initial setup like all the other CUE products?
Here is the config:

Multi-Site WAN With Centralized Call Manager
The customer has HQ with 15 Branches. Head quarter has about 4300 Phones, and Branches has:
Branch 1 = 420
Branch 2 = 256
Branch 3 = 385
Brnach 4 = 298
Branch 5 = 262
Branch 6 = 171
Branch 7 = 200
Branch 8 = 97
Branch 9 = 198
Branch 10 = 254
Branch 11 = 269
Branch 12 = 224
Branch 13 = 90
I would still like to propose Centralized Call Manager Cluster with SRST, but little confused since the number of phones per branch is very high.
What would be best deployment model for this type of scenerio along with VoiceMail and CER.Of course you can use CME/CUE, but the problem is that you need 3845 for SRST with CME/CUE, which cost a lot of money CISCO3845-CCME/K9 is $16495 plus CUE ($3000, not include voice mail subscriber box).
So I will agree what people suggest here.
I have centralized design (Publisher, subscriber) at Main Location, and another subscriber at remote site coz 500 users. I chose put subscriber there rather than use 3845 with SRST.
They share voice box at Main site (Unified).
The rest of remote site use SRST for backup.
Large remote site with T1 PRI with SRST if WAN down.
Small remote site with vic2-2fxo/4fxo with SRST if WAN down.
You can read the SRND here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_implementation_design_guide_book09186a00806e8a79.html
Also, you can design multiple cluster depends the location of main and branches. For example, half office located at West Coast, another half at East Coast. If I were you, I will create two clusters.
Again, it depends a lot of things, for example bandwidth, round-trip delay etc...
Hopefully, thats can help you.

DTMF tones from CUCUM 9 thru H323 GW out SIP trunk not working
This is the setup. Currently in lab environment for a client, but needs to go into production
IP Phone -> CUCM 9 -> H323 GW -> SIP Trunk -> Proprietary device -> Analog phone
Calls complete both ways with no issues. Proprietary devices only uses G711ulaw, so I have configured a xcoder on the H323 GW to transcode to G729 across the WAN link (between the CUCM cluster and the H323 GW).
Pressing keys/sending DTMF tones from the IP phone are not heard in the analog phone
Running a debug voice ccpai inout at the H323 gateway shows me that the DTMF tones are being received the GW and are being sent along. See below:

CME 7.1 / CUE 3.1 - Fax Onramp - Bug or Config Issue?
I have searched long and hard for the correct way to do this but I can't find the information I think I need. I want to setup a dedicated incoming fax number (fax onramp) to accept a fax from the PSTN network (a traditional fax machine) and have it email to a dedicated email address. In other words, FAX Machine dials 1234561280, which receives the fax and then emails it to a local Exchange server ([email protected]). (NOTE: I could also live with it going to a single CUE mailbox too.)
I am running CME 7.1 and CUE 3.1.1.
So in doing research, I found several articles on using a TCL script you can download for fax onramp (and offramp) for an IOS gateway. I went down that route and finally had it answering the phone with a fax tone (config below) but it would reboot the router as soon as I hung up. (Never tried an actual fax since this was unacceptable regardless if it took the fax).
This was frustrating so more research. I was thinking the issue was the fact that the script was fairly old. So then I notice documents (and I had noted the fields when configuring users in CUE) that CUE 3.1 supported faxes. So then I wondered if I was using the wrong method.
I searched Cisco's web site and found nothing useful. Then I ran across this post on this forum that seemed to support my assumption that maybe I did not need that old TCL script on more recent IOS/CME/CUE solutions.

The link in the previous post deals with haveing an application detect fax tone, but it does not function very well as an AA. The caller calls in, waits N number of seconds while a voice says something like "press 1 if this is a voice call, 2 if fax...". If the caller presses to, or the script hears fax tone, the script knows how to negotiate the fax. However, it wants to do it with t.37 (or store and forward). Meaning the email will be sent via email to the address listed in the script.
CUE 3.1 has the ability to do store and forward. it's built into the code, and doesn't require the IOS tcl script noted in the previous paragraph. It's a great way to receive faxes.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity_exp/rel3_1/administration/guide/voicemail/fxgatewy.html
But when I followed the link shown here, it too uses the TCL script.
So I guess my question is:
1) Is there a way to do this without the TCL script?
2) If I need the TCL script, is there something I have configured wrong that is causing the problem or is there a bug in the script?

Reject sip/h323 calls by IP?
i have a few sip/h323 providers. I have also enabled sip/h323 on my as5400xm(this is for my asterisk server). Since i'm using these providers, i have to put their IP in my access-list. my concern is, since my gateway is accepting sip/h323 calls. what if these provider send the calls to my gateway? so i was thinking of a way to restrict this. It could be as simple as tweaking the access-list. but I don't know. Please help.
here's how i have my access-list setup:
access-list 101 permit tcp host 10.10.10.10 any
access-list 101 permit udp host 10.10.10.10 any
access-list 101 permit udp any any range 16384 32767
access-list 101 deny tcp any any
access-list 101 deny udp any any
Thanks in advanceAh, so you just want to restrict VoIP calls from L3 addresses other than your provider?
That's just a simple ACL to open up traffic to your SIP ITSP's IP external addresses, and block anything else.
You can get what IPs and ports are used by your provider, but here is what you need open on the Cisco side inbound for an inbound ACL on a WAN interface:
UDP - ITSP address:ITSP SIP Port to External interface:5060 - For SIP signaling
ITSP address:ITSP RTP Port Range - External interface:16384-32767 - RTP traffic
ITSP's port range could be anything between 1024-65535. SIP usually comes from UDP/5060 from the ITSP, but doesn't have to. Verify with them, or look at a SIP debug or packet capture to verify.
The implicit deny will take care of everything else. -

We have a connectivity problem with our CUE, we installed a new ISM Module in our 2911 router, and basically the CUE is reachable from the router, but it's unpingable anywhere outside the router, we followed the instructions advised by Cisco exactly, but till this moment we are unable to reach it, noting that we have ZBF configured and we are able to ping everything in VLAN 14 which is the voice vlan except the CUE, below is a snap of the config and couple of show commands we have typed on the router :
IIAB-Irb-Husun-R1#service-module isM 0/0 status
Service Module is Cisco ISM0/0
Service Module supports session via TTY line 131
Service Module is in Steady state
Service Module heartbeat-reset is enabled
Getting status from the Service Module, please wait..

any idea what is missing here ?
Thanks in advance.Hello Kevin ,
I'm trying to reach the CUE from my PC on the LAN, i'm connected to the switch directly which is connected to the voice gateway via a trunk connection and the setup is basically a Router on stick, and i can see the IP Phones in VLAN 14 from my PC where i'm in VLAN 12, so i guess the routing should be ok, from the voice gateway i can login to the CUE and configure what i want, but inside the CUE, i can only ping the gateway and nothing else, even though CUE supposed to be a member in VLAN 14, but i cannot ping it.
I was thinking that ZBF maybe the cause, but since I can reache the IP Phones and ping it without any issues, CUE should be the same.
Thanks. -
No audio when from unity express over wan
Hello,
I have two cme's with unity expresses, when I make a call across the wan the call is fine however when the call goes to voice mail I see that it is forwarded but I can not hear the audio from unity.Had a similar issue with the same setup. Ultimately fixed this by transfer-pattern commands. They were required for CME to hand off the call. 6100-6105 were various attendants and VM pilot numbers at the remote site. Remote extensions were in the 1400s with remote paging in the 400s.
Under telephony-service
transfer-pattern 1...
transfer-pattern 4..
transfer-pattern 61..
Your CME knows about it's own extensions but needs to be explicitly told which extensions it is allowed to transfer to. Until it's allowed to do the transfer, the remote CUE won't be contacted.

SRST on 2851 H323 pots fxo inbound not working
Have 2851
H323
IOS SPservices 12.4.15T
See attached config.
During WAN outage SRST works fine. Calls can be made outbound but calls cannot be made inbound.
When main number called gateway picks uup the call in 1 ring and the caller hears dead silence the alias DN never gets a ring. Then after 30 seconds the caller hears busy signal. What is wrong with this config?hey,
alias is the command that would need..I see that you are sending calls to 3210
alias 1 435XXXXXXX to 3210
alias 2 435XXXXXXX to 3210
alias 3 435XXXXXXX to 3210
1) Are you receiving 10 digits from the PSTN, if you receive 4 then set 4 digits instead of 10.
2) Is 3210 a DN on a phone that gets registered in SRST, if not it is not going to work...

Anyone linking PBX E1 across a WAN ?
Want to link a couple of Meridian exchanges across a low bit rate WAN using PRI - QSIG. Want to be able to send signalling channel uncompressed and associated voice timeslots using G.729 codec.
Do i tunnel timeslot 15 or send as transparent ?
Can anyone using this setup share their CFG or an example of this scenario ?
Tks.I am using T1 PRI with Q.SIG. The other end could be any type of voice port such as E&M, FXS, or T1 PRI.
This is basicly my config. The PBX adds 21 & 41 as an access code and so that I do not overlap dial-peers.
