Cue mix vs monitor mix

How do I create a separate cue mix vs a monitor mix in GB? I aggregated my Duet with the built-in output, so I ought to have 4 output channels to choose from for each track. I'd like to be able to remove the vox from output 3/4 (cue mix) while playing them in output 1/2 (monitor mix). But I don't see anyplace in a GB track to assign output channels. Does GB just spam all tracks to all output channels?

Logic reads GB files, but not the other way round. So you would have to export your midi tracks as a midi file and the audio tracks as single audio files and puzzle everything back together in GB.
However, if you have mastered Logic to an extent that you can record, play midi instruments and even assign different output mixes, I don't see a reason to go back to GB for mixing and mastering. There's nothing GB can do that you can't do (or even do better) in Logic.

  • Multiple Headphone / Monitor Mix

Just wondering how to get multiple headphone mixes?
Running 2 (soon to be 3) daisyied FirePod's. They each have what seems to be 8 ins and 2 outs. I'd like to be able to give a separate mix for each output (like a soundboard with 4+ monitor knobs on each track). Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks for your reply, and yes, I have the output selected in the channel strip.
I acutally did get it working last night right before I called it quits, but still am having one odd issue.
I set my channel strips up to send to the coreect outputs (backing track to mains, backing track with click to monitor mix), but the click kept jumping back to the main mix.  I would set the output to monitors, but when the tracks would play the click track would suddenly play through the mains, and the drop-down output selector would read "Main"?????
I thought it was something at the Concert level, so I changed it there as well, but still no luck.
Haven't ruled out that some of this has something to do with my Mbox Pro settings, but I see nothing there that would be causing issues.
Ever heard of a output changing like that?  This happened repeatedly, I kept chaninging it to monitors, it came chaning itself back....crazy.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • Audio Interface for monitoring, mixing 5.1 St Surround in FCP and Sd Tr Pro

I'm a fairly newbie with FCP and Sound Track Pro, and I am doing mostly long form, live event HDV recordings and editing. I'm about to start doing 5.1 Stereo Surround shooting and burning to Blu Ray. What do you recommend for an audio interface for my G4 PowerBook running Leopard w/2GB ram, to monitor/mix my 5.1 audio tracks in Sound Track Pro (since I can't monitor 5.1 in FCP?) I will likely be recording the tracks on the new Sound Devices 788T and inporting them into FCP and/or STP via firewire, but I need to monitor my mix before I burn to Blu Ray discs using Toast 10 and my LaCie BR burner.
Also has anyone found a way to use Bose 5.1 monitor speaker system? It would work fine for the BR player, but what about using with the Mac G4 PowerBook - do I need a digital audio - audio interface?

You'll need an audio-interface with at least 6 outputs. They should be connected to a surround processor or AV-Receiver with multichannel inputs. In line with your budget you could use M-Audio, Focusrite or Apogee products for that, they work with STP & Protools.
When monitoring, you cannot use the Bose system, because S/Pdif is for encoded audio only.

  • Surround /mixing and monitoring audio interface

    Dear forum,
I am searching for an audio interface to use with MBP or G5 for mixing and monitoring of four to 6 outputs channels into PMC active speakers. I am using a Lavry DA 11 DAC for stereo monitoring. I do not require an interface with inputs for recording music as all my recording is done away from my macs, it just the outputs i need to monitor audio I have loaded to computer via CF card. All the interfaces I see have loads of inputs I don't require. Is there an interface available without inputs?
Or I am looking at the wrong sort of device?
    regards

You need an interface that has 8 outputs. Most of these include 8 or more inputs as well. The inputs will not be a problem when mixing, you can ignore them.
I have yet to see an interface that is only outputs.

  • Stumped on how to create a flexible monitoring mix for a four piece band

I am recording a four piece electric jazz group "live" in the studio (my garage). I run logic 8 on a 2.4 Ghz MBP with 4 Gb of ram. I have a Presonus FP10 which gives me 8 analogue ins & outs. I also have a cheap Behringer 4 channel h/p amp HA4700.
My question is: is there a way to create a monitor mix that is from within logic that is both flexible and usable. ie close to zero latency ?
I have set up 4 buses in the mixer that I can send signal to from each of the instruments (sax, keys, bass & rum submix) and assigned these to outputs 3-6 which i then run to the aux in on each channel of the h/p amp. This has worked but i am getting some latency.....how can i fix this......can i ? It's actually not too bad, but when i can=me to using the same set up to do some overdubbing later it was un-usable.
    Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

Do you need to have 4 individual monitor mixes or can they all be the same for each player?
If you can get away with the same mix for each player, create a stereo aux track with a bus of your choice on the input and use outputs 3&4 from your interface to connect to the stereo input on your headphone pre amp.
I'm not sure why you are connecting your interface to the pre amp via an aux input? I would have thought that it should be hooked up straight into the stereo input.
Although you won't get individual monitor mixes this way, each player will have some freedom over what they are hearing via the controls on the headphone amp.

  • What can i use to send adat i/o to analog for creating monitor mixes

i can budget a tascam 1804 for a new recording project i have, but it only has stereo outs. which means the band and i have to share the stereo outs. i need to be able to use the adat out to a box that allows 8 outs analog to setup monitor mixes for the band. at least i am thinking i need to.
anyone got any ideas of a device that can do this?

thanks for the reply. but i am talking about a mobile device.
it seems that if i want to do this the 1804 is not going to work. as i would have to get another device to give it more outs.
i am aware of the 828 and the 896 neither of which i want to own. i have used the 828, and well as it is a good device i just don't want to own one.
i guess the rme fireface is going to have to be what i get. if i am to have to routing capability that i want.

  • Firewire Interface and Monitor Mix

We'll, I've read all I can, and settled on a M-Audio Fast Track Pro for my interface. I went with the USB, but the residual latency and weak pre-amps have me looking to return it and get something different. I will mainly be using it to record guitar, bass, drums, and vocals over some loops. Here are my needs:
-One XLR and one 1/4" input. (Two 1/4" inputs would be nice, for taking stereo feed from a mixer when recording drums).
-1/4 L/R outputs to feed powered monitors
    -Headphone out (of course)
-Nice, powerful preamp. The Fast Track Pro has to be cranked to record vocals from a Beta 57a.
    ...and here's the big one.
-An ability to adjust the monitor mix between input and playback. I'm not sure how people get a good monitor mix when using an interface without this capability. I like this feature on the Fast Track Pro, but it comes with some latency. I imagine some of this can be attributed to it's USB design.
Any suggestions would be great. I know this has been beaten to death. Thank you.
    Mike
    MacBook Pro 2.33   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Latency is rarely caused by use of usb. It is almost always computer side, hard drive being probably the big cause. Especially with laptop hard drives.
Also just because your 57 needs to be at 10 on the FT Pro and say 8 on another device doesn't mean the sound will be any different. But I have heard that the Fastracks don't have as much gain as other interfaces.
If your mixing playback plus dry input you shouldn't have any latency but if you are mixing playback and wet input then you could get latency.

  • Why is the jazz genius mix titled "Classical Mix"?

I'm running iTunes 10.7.0.21 and everything seems fine. The only strange thing is that I have two Genius mixes, each titled "Classical Mix." One of these consists of obviously classical music from my music library, but the other consists obviously of jazz. There is no Genius mix called "Jazz Mix," so it looks like the jazz mix has somehow gotten titled "Classical Mix." I also have other mixes (Alt. Singer/Songwriter Mix, Indie Rock Mix, Chamber Pop Mix, etc.), but it's really strange that a mix that consists of Billie Holliday, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Horn, Miles Davis, etc. has a label of "Classical Mix." Meanwhile, the second "real" Classical Mix has Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, etc. This is really strange.
Is there any way to retitle my Genius Mixes?  Is this a bug?  I look at my music by genre and I clearly have 120 albums that are labeled as "Jazz," so why does iTunes insist on calling this music a "Classical Mix"?
I've tried turning off Genius and turning it back on, but that does nothing. I've figured out which "Classical Mix" is really the jazz mix, so this is really a minor annoyance, but why doesn't this work correctly?
    Thanks.

The latter.  I just recorded a bass track as an audio track along with tracks for guitar, banjo, harmonica, etc.  (I bounce off line so playing along with the bounce is not possible.)  The thing is that the other instruments I play are all acoustic, so they go on their tracks through a mic. The bass is an electric bass guitar, and while I have an amp and could mic it, it just seemed easier to put it on a track by plugging it right into the preamp, which has an "instrument" input setting as an alternative to the "microphone" input setting.
What is so screwy about this is that the normalize function in the bounce window should make proportionate adjustments to all instruments.  At least that's what the owner's manual says it does.  But what it seemed to be doing is treating the directly input bass and the microphoned instruments seperately.  I usually record the bass track at a fairly high input so that I can clearly hear it in the headphones as I play over the previously recorded instruments and vocals.  Then I rely on the mixer to bring down the volume of the bass to a more reasonable level in the final mix.  But with the normalize function on in the bounce, the bass was still coming through in the bounce at the original input level or something very close to it.  That would be fine if the other instruments were properly jacked up as well so that the bounce sound like what I heard through the mixing board, only louder. But what I got was a mix with all of the all the other miced instruments sounding just like they did through the mixing board and the bass blasting away at the original recorded level notfwithstanding the volume reduction on the mixing board.  Very strange.  I assume this is a software bug, but now at least I have a reasonable work around.  Thanks again.

  • How can i add stereo or mono mix to sound mixer - Satellite Pro A100-196

I do not find this option in my sound settings, no mono or stereo under recording ?
is there any way to add this function to my laptop??
or is there any way else to do for sound settings to have them?

just think about the voice setting when you go to the record you should find mono and stereo. I have only mic volume -cd volume and line volume i should have mono mixer and stereo mixer also.
So can i add them to the list ?? For example when you use paltalk program you can play music from your computer in the room so all in this room can hear it eaven if you adjust your volume to mute, this is using mixer mono or stereo.
I hope i explane it for you. Thanx

  • Headphone mix / software monitoring question

I am making the transition from Cubase to Logic Pro X. I have set up a headphone mix in the time-honoured manner, sending a (summing stack) instrument arrangement to an aux channel that goes to outputs 3-4 and drives a separate headphone amp, in this case for the vocal talent. So far so good. But now when I enable software monitoring on the vocal track I get no input signal to the headphone mix.  Presumably software monitoring in Logic folds back to outputs 1 and 2 by default, hence no signal to 3-4. Cubase has something called Control Room, whereby you can send any monitored input to any pair of outputs. How does this scenario work in Logic? If I use outputs other than 1-2 for a headphone mix, is software monitoring therefore not available? I know I can send a monitored input directly via my interface, but that gives a dry signal to the vocal talent - not ideal and the whole point of software monitoring. I don't have any external reverb so software reverb inserts are the only option.
Sorry for the long ramble and hope this makes sense. Please let me know if I am missing something 101 in Logic. Thanks!

  • Monitor Mixer Error!

When I try to preview my "program monitor" window, I get the following error:
Premiere Pro has encountered and error.
    [..\..\Src\Audio\MonitorMixer.ccp-153]
It won't play my timeline to let me preview my work! I can open seperate clips in the source monitor, but not the program monitor. What has happened? It was working fine last week Thursday!
    TIA

I encountered the same error after installing a 0404 E-MU adio card. Whenever I use it I get the same error. As a result I have had to revert back to my olde soundblaster card. No explanation. No solution. This is another one of those Premiere bugs which Adobe will probably never address as not enough people have it. I feel very frustrated because there's simply no explanation whatsover.

  • Unable to perform multi audio tracks mixing with Audio Mixer

How do you get a simple multi track mix with the Premier Pro 1.5 Audio Mixer?
I got 2 audio clips, each sitting at the start of its own separate track (Audio 1 and Audio 2). I just want to mix them into the Master track.  Simple enough.
So I go to the Audio Mixer. Position the CTI at the start of the tracks and hit the red RECORD button. The red spot starts blinking. Then I hit the START/STOP button expecting the tracks to start mixing into the Master track. Instead, I get this error message
"PLAYER ERROR: You cannot record without enabling at least one track for recording."
I get the same problem if I try the mix onto a submix track.
What am I missing? I combed through the Premiere Pro User Guide and J. Rosenberg's Premiere Pro Studio Techniques but to no avail.
    Thanks for any help.
    JB.

Jacques, I havn't seen 1.5 for a while, so I need to stress that what I'm about to say is more of an educated guess linked to a rough memory.
Each audio track in the mixer has a small chip (tickbox in 1.5??) that you click in order to enable that track for recording. In CS3 it's a little microphone.
Having said that, I DON'T think that's going to give you what you want, as the intention of the recording functionality in PP is to record audio FROM AN EXTERNAL SOURCE (like a microphone) straight to an audio track, say, when doing a Voice Over for some video.
You can't "mix down" to the master, as the master is not a track per se. It's just a "final" level control. The master will always be the sum of the active tracks, and THAT'S what will be rendered in the final output.
You can still "live mix" your audio with the faders, it's just that those movements get recorded as keyframes on each of the tracks you modify (including, BTW, the Master).
The advantage to this workflow is that every fader move you make is infinitley editable... a small error when riding the faders can easily be fixed by dragging keyframes.
    HTH.

  • My computer no longer has Stereo Mix / Wave Out Mix.

I bought an HP G60-443cl notebook computer about less than two years ago. It had Vista installed on it. I was able to record direct audio using Hypercam, FRAPS, Audacity, etc...... Then I reinstalled Vista and now the only sound I'm able to record is via microphone. I checked the sound and audio settings from the control panel. Under the recording tab, only microphone is listed. Nothing else is there even with disconnected and disabled checked. Did I install the right audio driver? I installed the Conexant SmartAudio 221 driver. I didn't bother looking into what audio driver i used before reinstalling Vista and I don't know who manufactured this laptop's sound card.

    Hi,
Record What you Hear/Wave Mix/Stereo Mix on the PC (Example: Record a Song that is being Played in Windows Media Player or Online)
Start->Control panel->Sound, click ‘Recording’ tab above, right click on Empty Space on Recording Tab above, check ‘Show Hidden Devices’ and ‘Show Hidden Devices’, we will find ‘StereoMix’ entry, right click on it, click Enable, select it, and click ‘Set Default’ Button below to have the Green Check on.
Click Start->All Programs->Accessories->Sound Recorder,  Play a Song/Video online, click Start Recording Button on Sound Recorder Window, once done, click Stop Recording Button, it will ask you to choose a Location to save the File.  Go to the Location, and Play it to check if the issue is fixed.
    Thank You.

  • 5.1 mix AND Stereo mix on dvd

I have a project that has a 5.1 mix (i've already made an ac3 file through compressor) and also has a 2 channel stereo mix. I'd like them both on the dvd so if someone doesn't have 5.1, they can watch in stereo. Is there anyway to have it automatically detect? Or should i do a menu with 2 options (one to play the 5.1 and the other to play the stereo mix)?
    Thanks.

    User GregM claims it's possible.

I have never encountered a player that was that smart.
The fact that you have two different mixes indicates to me
that a well balanced mix is important to you.
Leaving it up to the DVD player to do a down-mix of the
5.1 to stereo is an unknown, and ultimately unsatisfactory.
So I would go with a menu choice to be absolutely certain.
I would also make the default audio, (in case the user can't be bothered
to make the choice) your stereo mix.
