Cumulative Security Update for Windows XP Service Pack 2 Warning!
Not sure how many of you guys remember the problems associated with the Windows XP Service Pack 2 when it was first released, but the latest Cumulative Security patch completely disabled my Plextor 708A DVD drive and locked up Windows Explorer.
Here is the problem patch:
o Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB883939)
It caused my Plextor 708A to give off two blinking Amber lights, which according to Plextor indicates the drive is defective. Plextor actually tells you to get a RMA ticket and to return the drive. Luckily I found it odd that my DVD drive became defective after I installed the latest windows update and tried uninstalling the 'fixes' before going that route. Fortunately, removal of one of the 'fixes' solved my problem.
If you find that your DVD or CD Player no longer works after doing a windows update, then do the following:
o Go to Control Panel
o Select Add Remove Programs
o Scroll to the bottom and select Security Update for Windows XP (KB883939)
o Click 'Remove'
o Restart your computer
I might not have the latest security fix right now, but at least my computer is running.
Stu: Can you report this to MSI and have them get in touch with M$?
i will, if this is a problem affecting a lot of users.
has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi,
Are you refering to this KB?
KB947821
Fix Windows Update corruption errors such as 0x80070002 and 0x80070057
Could you please have a share with the error messages that shown after SP1 failed to install?
And, now I have multiple copies of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed and, the computer wants to continually install another copy upon Shutdown.
Do you mean the computer wants to continually install another copy every time when shutdown?
Please make sure we have enough space in the system drive(where the system OS installed), perform a cleanup of that drive(ensure we have ), then take a try to boot into
clean boot and install SP1 manually, download fron here:Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

This is about KB/Update KB2925418. IT IS NOT JUST A SECURITY UPDATE. And it will change things you may not want changed for example, no where does it tell exactly what it is, nor what it will do. NOT COOL. What it does amongst other things is disable Java,
NOT COOL, that breaks IE and stops our Angel Learning environment from working, NOT COOL.
Worse and far more evil than that it put the USELESS crap ware, "Bing Suggested Sites" link back in the favorites bar, THAT IS ABSOLUTELY EVIL. It has NOTHING TO DO WITH SECURITY and DOSE NOT BELONG IN A SECURITY UPDATE. HOW EVIL.
And how do I know it is evil, because just like a virus and the many browser hijackers etc out there it keeps coming back when I have intentionally removed it. ONLY EVIL things have to do that to stay on the desktop. Non evil things go away and STAY AWAY,
when the are told to!!!!!!!!!!!!
RalphHi,
Did you tell us what happened exactly after you install this update?
The detailed description about this update, please refer to this article:

OLE broken after Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer KB3003057
Our product has been using the IWebBrowser OLE interface for many years but has failed since Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer KB3003057. What do we need to do to get this IWebBrowser interface working again.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa752127(v=vs.85).aspx
When we try to use the Navigate function it causes general access violations such.
Our code has not changed for several years so must something must have been chainged in the OLE/ActiveX library with this security update patch.
We are getting Access Violations when calling the IWebBrowswer :: Navigate function since this KB3003057 security
patch. If I uninstall the patch everything works normally again. When I re-install the KB3003057
patch the problem returns.
All our customers (many different computers in different offices) are getting this problem once they pick up the update. It is not specific to a particular computer and we are seeing it on Windows 7 and also Windows 8.
Thanks in advance for any advise you can offer.
Thanks,

When trying to download iTunes for Windows XP Service Pack 3, I receive the message "You have chosen to open iTunesSetup.exe" "Would you like to save this file?". When I select Save File, nothing else happens. How do I continue to install iTunes?
See the further information area of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

In Windows 8 I received the error iTunes Library .iti file is locked on a disk or you do not have permission for this file. I can open itunes in the compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3.
I've tried changing permissions and sharing - nothing seems to work. mat be a Windows 8 issue???You also need to make sure you have both read and write permission for the file, or for the whole iTunes folder for that matter. That's also done in Get Info for the file or folder concerned.
Read the part about changing permissions on the iTunes folder in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11583914 -
Security Update for windows XP (KB936021)

Many users are facing problem with BI Template builder after upading Security Update for windows XP (KB936021).
If you load xml data into your BI template builder after updating windows security then you will see error <b>Compile error in hidden module module-starter</b>.

I will alert the dev team and we will investigate the issue with hig priority.

Security Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB3042553)
Hello,
Security Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB3042553) has been advised to be critical update to deal with Vulnerability in HTTP.sys which could allow remote code execution.
However due to some reason I am unable to apply the patch to any of the Windows 2012 R2 servers. It errors - The update is not applicable to your computer, when tried to install manually / locally.
I tried to push it via WSUS and the patch is not getting detected by the servers.
Regional language settings are set to match Windows display language (Which is English).
Is anyone else experiencing this issue too? If so is there way to get this deployed please.
Thank you.
Kumar GHi Kumar,
I suggest you check the file version of Http.sys and compare it with the one documented in the KB article below:
MS15-034: Vulnerability in HTTP.sys could allow remote code execution: April 14, 2015
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3042553

FYIHi Susan. I hope there's a better 'fix' coming to replace this "uninstall the updates, restore, then reinstall the updates after the restore". This kind of workaround requires that all of us remember that there's a problem
with KB3023562 and KB3004375 from now until the end of WS2012E. Not sure I'll remember this 6 months from now when the problem crops up during a restore. -:(

MXI-3 blue screen when updating to windows 2000 service pack 3 or 4
I have na host computer with windows 2000, and a PXI chassis connected through MXI-3 (cooper wires). I have a 6025E, a 5102, a 5112, a pickering DMM, and two pickering switch-cards in it. Updating windows is not possible. It didn't work months ago when windows 2000 service pack came out and it doesn't work now with windows 2000 service pack 4 -Blue screeen of death is the verdict!
Any ideas about the posible problem and a cure?
Scientia est potentia!Hi Magvar,
The first thing we need to determine is the cause of the problem. Right now, I see two possible causes. First, the problem could be with the OS on your computer. Second, the problem could be with the MXI-3 interface. In order to determine which is causing the blue screen, I recommend removing the PCI-MXI-3 board from the computer before you install the service pack. If the service pack will successfully install, then we know the problem was with the MXI-3 board. You can then try to reinstall the board. If the installation is not successful, then we know the problem is not connected with the MXI-3 system. In that case, you may need to contact Microsoft for further assistance.

QUICKTIME 7.1.3 SECURITY UPDATE FOR WINDOWS? Where is it?
How do I get the security update (2007-001) for the WINDOWS version of QuickTime? Do I just download and install the standalone player again?
As an IT professional who is constantly trying to stick up for apple in a pro-Microsoft world, I find it ridiculous that there is no mention of how windows users can protect themselves from this security flaw, at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304989
It only talks about the OSX version, and the updater in the windows quicktime player just tells me it's up to date with 7.1.3... but 7.1.3 is the only version affected by the security flaw!
The bug:
http://projects.info-pull.com/moab/MOAB-01-01-2007.htmlThe solution for Windows clients is un-acceptable. This is a critical security flaw that could result of remote code execution and possible system compromise.
We cannot sit back and expect thousands of enterprise users to manually go out and update QuickTime. Worse yet if they didn't enable the updater when they installed QuickTime.
A separate downloadable patch for QuickTime for Windows needs to be made available ASAP whereas it can be deployed via existing distribution methods just like we do all other "Critical" security updates.
When will a downloadable patch be available?
If not, our only recourse may be to force the un-install of QuickTime as an unmanageable product. -
