CUPS 1.2.11  and PXL

this is also crossposted at http://forums.freestandards.org/read.php?30,2052
Hello. I am posting this on Apple Forums and Open printing.
I have problems with printing with a Ricoh-style printer, Nashuatec DSC424, and the provided PPD found at Open Printing.
I tried to install the newest version of CUPS. It prints from some applications but not from all. It prints from Adobe CS3 Illustrator, photoshop. Adobe Acrobat does not print when exported to PDF from Indesign.
The new cups webadminpages gives both information and a error log:
The error I see when printing from Acrobat and Safari is:
No %%BoundingBox: comment in header!
Here is the errorlog after I tried printing from Acrobat. A file that prints from Indesign, but not exported as PDF and printed from Acrobat Reader.
http://www.nuna.no/error_log.txt
The printing software I have installed in this order is:
CUPS 1.2.11
foomatic-rip-3.43.2.15
espgs-7.07.1.ppc
I have used the .dmg installers.
My OS is OS X 10.4.9 (newest)
From the CUPS adminpage I have selcted the PPD file and connected to the printer with Device URI: ipp://10.0.0.222:631/ipp
The printer needs usercode and that one is written directly into the PPD. The PPD is:
The CUPS test page looks niceand so does the pages from Indesign and Word.
So what can be done to get more apps to print? Not only Photoshop and Indesign.? Please tell me if I need to show you someting more like some other errorlogs. THanks,
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2 gig ram

I hope uli wehner or georgeliu on the OpenPrinting forum can help interpret the error_log.
Taking your error log beginning from the line
"D [11/Jun/2007:11:24:29 +0200] print_job: auto-typing file..."
and using that as line 1,I find the following probable causes for inability to print:
lines 364-366 --

It isn't clear whether this is a Ghostscript error or an OS error. Either way, it could be due to what the application is sending as it looks like the application is not sending a conforming document as mentioned in lines 364-366.
I realize this does not solve your problem, but it may give others that are more knowledgeable than I a clue.

  • CUPS 8.5.2 and CUCPC 8.5.1.18771, unable to get the status of hard phone off / on hook

    Hi
we have CUCM 8.5.1 , CUPS 8.5.2 and CUCPC  8.5.1.18771 , we are able to login to CUPC but we are unable to get the hardphone status on the  like , on phone.

There is actually a whole section of the Cisco Unified Presence Deployment Guide dedicated to this topic. You need to create a SIP trunk with special permissions between CUCM and CUP. Have you read through this section and confirmed each part is correctly configured?
If you have, do you see the PUBLISH events in the CCM SDI traces being sent to CUP? Does the CUP server receive this in the SIP Proxy log? If so, what does it say about it? Note that you would need to turn up trace levels on both products to see this level of detail.

  • CUPS, HP PSC 2355 and "Unable to get list of printer drivers: Unknown"

    Hey fellow Archers!
    The Introduction
The other day, I installed ArchLinux for the ARM processor on my GoFlex Home. Straight away I installed samba, got it set up and everything works like a charm with explosive transfer-rates compared to the old factory-firmware. Also put on a mysql server to centralize my xbmc database and pyload to download large files without having to have my laptop opened all the time. Have to admit, this Arch Linux is a glorious world!
    The Setup
Well, after this positive input, now comes my problem. I wanted to share our printer on our LAN, so I did a little search to quickly find CUPS. Installed it together with all the dependencies, like foomatic, python (which was installed as pyload uses it) and all that stuff.
Changed the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to listen on 0.0.0.0 and started the daemon.. Woohoo! Turned on the printer, opened the web interface, went to administration -> add printer and selected one of the printers available from this list:
    Local printers
    CUPS-PDF (Virtual PDF Printer)
HP PSC 2350 series USB MY5BNF4423KJ HPLIP (HP PSC 2350 series)
    Seriel port #1
HP PSC 2350 series (HP PSC 2350 series)
    HP Fax (HPLIP)
Before I proceed, I want to say that I have tried the following with both of the PSC-entries.
    The Problem
Now, i selected the printer and just let the default values be, pressed continue and got this error message:
"Unable to get list of printer drivers: Unknown"
Well, googled it a bit and tried to blacklist lsusb, as well as chmod /dev/bus/usb/001/002 to 665 (even 777). Still the same error message. Also tried to install the printer with hp-setup -i which let me pick a ppd myself; didn't work either. Gave me an error message saying that it was unable to add the printer to cups. I have run out of options, and the almighty sir Google wont give me any solutions other than those which I have tried.
I even get this error message when I try to add cups-pdf (which I also installed oc).

  • CUP - Unable to assign and delete role at the same time

    Hello everybody,
I have an issue with CUP.
Regarding a change account request, if I assign roles, it works. In the other hand, if I delete roles (also with a change account request) it works too. But if I mix both of them in the same request (assigning and deleting roles) it doesn't works. Only the deletion works. Some times we have no error message and some times we have:
Error provisioning your request. Request no: 94. Error occurred in the system(s) : n/a, error details :
DR1CLNT200-ZTEST01-USER CREATE-Function template /VIRSA/BAPI_USER_CHANGE could not be retrieved from DR1CLNT200
Do you have please an idea to solve this issue?
For information the CUP used is a 5.3 SP 5.0 version.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Ben,
There may be a possibility of such a behaviour in SP05 as many of the changes in code has been done
till now which may result into such issue and we can't confirm your findings by re-creating it. However, you can check few things functionally which may resolve this issue:-
    1) This error usually comes when the role selected is already assigned to the user or user doesn't exist in the system for which change request is created.
    2) when this error encounters the system, please take the system logs for that time from 'Monitoring' tab under configuration in 'English' and there the error cause can be found out or please paste the logs so that we can analyse.
    3) Also, you can refer to SAP Note:- 1168508 where many of the role related issues have been resolved after SP05, therefore, for smooth functioning of GRC-CUP 5.3, it's better to upgrade to the latest SP i.e. SP18.11(available at SMP).

  • Upgraded to CUPS 8.5 - MP and VM not function ?

    Hi ;
Currently just upgrade the customer CUPS from 7.0 to 8.5. It look good, but after that found out from CUPC server health the MP and VM shown in red, not able to communicate to MP server and Voice Mail. But for CUPC 7.x access to CUPS 8.5 no issue at all. All the CUPS configuration remain the same in 7.0 during upgrade to 8.5.
anybody come across for this issue ? Pls advice. Thanks.
    rgds
    tan

I can confirm the third USB monitor issue. I ran into it at another customer but they chose to just install a PCI Express card instead of working through it with TAC.
Most of the issues I have ran into have been video card driver related. CUPC uses DirectX and the release notes even say to make sure the latest driver is installed. If that doesn't fix it then you get to play Cisco QA with TAC.

  • CUP. Replaced cert and now services diag page shows issues

    Hey all,
i used the os page to generate a CSR, had it signed, uploaded the cert to the server and rebooted.  I also uploaded the cert to the cucm publisher.  the following lines are showing on the CUP diag page.  the docs i have found thus far are not very clear on what all needs to be replaced.
Verify Cisco XCP Connection Manager's service status
Cisco XCP Connection Manager service is currently down.service state=[UNKNOWN] reason=[null]
To start the Cisco XCP Connection Manager service, please use the Serviceability application
Verify Cisco XCP Authentication's service status
Cisco XCP Authentication service is currently down.service state=[UNKNOWN] reason=[null]
Verify Cisco IM and Presence Data Monitor service is running on all nodes.
Could not determine the status of the Cisco IM and Presence Data Monitor service on the following nodes192.168.10.3
On all impacted nodes verify that no other services are currently starting, stopping or restarting. Wait until all service operations have completed and retry the test. Check System > Notifications and verify that communication between IM and Presence and the CUCM publisher node is working. If the CUCM publisher node has been upgraded to a Maintenance Release or Service Update and the IM and Presence nodes in the cluster are not being upgraded, you must reboot them.

    bump.
has anyone replaced the certs and ran into this issue?  if not, what process did you follow?
jabber is working fine...  would like to clear up the errors.

We are using an Openldap for Directory Synch and Authentication. It worked until we upgraded from 6.1.2 to 6.1.4. Any Idea how to troubleshoot?
The LDAP Synchronization works fine with SSL. My OpenLDAP Administrator told me that there is an corrupt SSL-Handshake in his Log at the Timestamp the CTIManager asks for Authentication.
    Kind regards,
    Vasco

    Hi Michael,
thanks for your reply. I saw that you recommended the same solution in conjunction with LDAP Active Directory. Will this solution also work on OpenLDAP?
Actually we are not using the default (unencrypted) TCP-Port 389. Instead we're using the TCP-Port 8635 with SSL-Encryption for both Directory Synchronization and Enduser Authentication.
    Is there a known Bug-ID?
    Kind regards,

  • HR triggers in GRC CUP.. How and when does this work

    Dear Experts,
I would really appreciate if some one could shed some light on how HR triggers work in GRC CUP ?
When does this get triggered ?
Is it when the the user master record is saved or when the Info type 105 is linked ? Are there any pre-requisities that should be taken care from the Hr perspective so that I can set the expectations accordignly with HR team ?
P.S I already went through the article " How to configure HR triggers with GRC CUP ?
    Thanks
    Kumar

I configured HR trigger rule for infotype 0000 & subtype Z1,field MASSN with value equal to 01 to trigger new hire...i don't see any data being populated into table /VIRSA/INT_TRIG & ?VIRSA/DATA.
I could see the rule in table /VIRSA/RULEATTR.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • CUP: Security Approver Determinator and emails

I have a stage that is set to use "Security" as the Approver Determinator.  The approvals work for this stage but no emails are sent to the people that are in the security group.
Is it just expected that the security group will be monitoring the "My Work" tab for requests or is this a bug?
Does anyone else receive emails when routing a request to "Security"?
I have all of the emails configured in the stage.  My other stages receive emails fine.
    Running AC 5.3 SP07 patch 01
    Regards,
    -J

We use LDAP linked to UME for our user authentication.  I double checked the users and the email addresses are being mappped correctly.  The AESecurity Role also has users assigned.
I noticed that the email is not even placing the record in the "virsa_ae_emllog" table for the security stage.  I can see it in there for the other stages.
I guess for some reason it is not finding the approvers.
I cannot post the log file because of the information that is contained in it.  Is there anything in particulae that I can look for to see where there might be a problem?  I searched for "Error" and only find one whihc the app seems to handle internally:

  • Trouble printing with my HP Deskjet printer using CUPS and hplip

tl;dr This 1,646 word post describes my frustration with CUPS and hplip. I cannot get my HP Deskjet F4400 set up with CUPS, and all the solutions I've tried don't work.
I'm running Arch Linux ARM on my Seagate DockStar, a small ARM-based "plug computer" that I use as a home server. My printer is the HP Deskjet F4480, which is part of the HP Deskjet F4400 series.
I previously had CUPS set up to share my printer with my home network, using hplip for the printer driver. I never upgraded CUPS or hplip because those versions worked fine, and I didn't want to break anything avoid breaking anything. The versions that I was using had to have been at least one to two years old.
Everything was working very smoothly... until a few days ago. The drive I was running Arch Linux ARM on became corrupt, so I had to install a fresh copy of the operating system. That meant losing all of the working versions and configuration files each application I had installed, including CUPS. I thought I had a backup image of the drive, but it didn't work when I tried to restore it. (Yes, it was stupid of me not to test my backup.)
Setting up CUPS was one of the first things that I wanted to do after reinstalling, since my family depends on the network printing functionality almost daily. Unfortunately, I could not get CUPS to work with my printer correctly. It wouldn't be able to display a list of drivers, HP's setup utility encountered an error adding it, and it threw various errors when I tried to print test pages. I ended up reading hundreds of forum posts, wiki articles, and CUPS/hplip tutorials to try to figure out how to properly set it up. I ended up spending a total of nearly ten hours trying to get the printer to print with CUPS, and it's still not working after all that work.
I'm going to explain in this post some of the many things that I've tried so far. I just removed all of the printing packages from my system and any extra files that were left behind. I'm now going to be installing all of the packages again and documenting everything that I have been trying to do to get it to work. I'll try to include exact error messages and logs where necessary.
    1. I first found this article on the Arch Linux ARM website on how to set up a CUPS printer. I didn't really want to use webmin, but I did it anyway so that I could follow the guide. I installed all the packages mentioned except for cups-pdf, since I didn't need print to PDF support. Everything installed smoothly, and I configured CUPS and webmin to allow access to other computers on the network. I started to notice problems in the instructions - /etc/rc.d/cups was actually /etc/rc.d/cupsd, /etc/printers.conf was actually /etc/cups/printers.conf, and webmin didn't actually add anything to the printers.conf file. I uninstalled webmin at this point because I didn't need it, and I decided I wasn't going to follow that guide with incorrect information.
    2. I then tried to set up the printer on my own using the CUPS web interface listening on port 631. I clicked the Add Printer button and it switched me to the HTTPS web interface. I then logged into the root account and was presented with the list of printers. My printer was listed as "HP Deskjet F4400 series (HP Deskjet F4400 series)", so I selected it and continued. I saw a list of printer models (PPD files) ending in CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.9. There was no entry for my printer, so I tried the "HP DeskJet Series (en)" one. I set the default options and chose Maintenaince->Print test page. I then got a ridiculously simple error: "Unable to print test page: No such file or directory". How do I even know what file or directory it's referencing? I read online that it may be because I'm not in the lp group, but root is indeed in there. I saw in the error log "Avahi client failed: -26". I started dbus and avahi-daemon just in case, but I still got that silly error. I restarted cups and the same error message occured.
    3. I researched online that pretty much the only way for my printer to have a driver would be to install hplip. Before installing hplip, I uninstalled CUPS, leaving cupsd.conf but deleting printers.conf. Then I installed CUPS and hplip together, with hplip requiring foomatic-db, foomatic-db-engine, and foomatic-filters. Everything seemed to install correctly. I started CUPS again and then ran hp-setup -i to try to install my printer. I selected USB and it found my printer, hp:/usb/Deskjet_F4400_series?serial=[printer serial number here]. I entered a simple name and then was told that no PPD file was found for the printer but that I could specify one manually. There were none I could find online; everywhere it just said to install hplip. I used the find command to find "f4400" and finally found 2 compressed PPDs located at /usr/share/ppd/HP/hp-deskjet_f4400_series-hpijs.ppd.gz and /usr/share/ppd/HP/hp-deskjet_f4400_series.ppd.gz. I gunzipped both of them and pointed hpsetup to the hpijs one, knowing that I was using the hpijs one when it was working before. It told me "Description for the file: HP Deskjet f4400 Series hpijs, 3.12.6". Hooray! I selected to use it, but then setup failed: "error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again." Ugh!
    4. I restarted CUPS and went into the hp-setup process again. It gave me the same printer queue setup failed error. I don't know if these entries in the CUPS error log are related or not, but these errors relating to foomatic showed up. I restarted CUPS again and this time used the non-hpijs file with hp-setup. This one was called "Description for the file: HP Deskjet f4400 Series, hpcups 3.12.6". It failed again with the same error and the same entries in the error log. I found lots of posts online about this error, but none seemed to have a solution that would work for me. Now I tried running hp-setup in debug mode with -g. Here is what it said before the error. I then tried to Google "debug: addPrinter() returned (0, Unable to connect to CUPS server)". I saw on an Arch bug report to install dbus-python and python2-gobject, as well as create a symlink for /usr/bin/python2 to /usr/bin/python. It didn't work - same error.
    5. I then tried to add the printer to CUPS via its web interface. Now there were two listed,  HP Deskjet F4400 series (HP Deskjet F4400 series) and HP Deskjet F4400 series USB [printer serial number here] HPLIP (HP Deskjet F4400 series). So, hplip added the second one. I tried both of them, but after clicking Continue the page started to hang. I got another stupid, undescriptive error. "Unable to get list of printer drivers: Success". I saw the same foomatic errors in the error log as before. I then started reading the ArchWiki page on CUPS, located here. I tried the blacklisting usblp. I tried changing the permissions on the device node, although this starts to become ridiculous that it is even required to do that. Nothing was working; the printer installation still didn't work with hp-setup or with CUPS. Then, I found what I was looking for: the exact error I had on the wiki page! It said for "Unable to get list of printer drivers" you should "Try to remove Foomatic drivers." WTF? Foomatic is required for hplip, and hplip is required for my printer. I can't do that. Forum posts say to try that or do the permissions or usblp thing. Nothing is working.
    6. I tried various other things to get it to work, even though I knew they probably wouldn't make it any different. I copied the PPDs from hplip to another folder and uninstalled hplip and foomatic. I then added them to /usr/share/cups/model and CUPS successfully found them and set up the printer. I reinstalled hplip and foomatic since they're needed for those PPDs to function, and I tried printing a test page. It failed. I tried using the CUPS web interface to modify the printer driver; nope, that wasn't going to happen: "Unable to get list of printer drivers: Success".
That concludes the list of some of the things that I have tried so far. I really want to get this printer working, but right now I am really fed up with CUPS and hplip. It's things like this that make me hesitant to recommend Linux to anyone else. So much manual configuration and tinkering the inner workings of things is required to do tasks that would be quite simple on Windows. For example, I can plug this printer into my Windows 7 machine right now, wait for the driver to automatically be installed and configured, and have a test page in my hands less than a minute after I first plugged in the USB cable. I can share the printer with any other Windows machine on the network by checking a single checkbox.
But back to my problem with getting the printer to work on my DockStar. I just uninstalled all of CUPS, hplip, and foomatic again and removed all of their files. I can walk through things to try that you guys post and then give you full logs of everything - just give me exactly what to do and install and the exact order to do it all in. I just don't know what to do at this point and am so frustrated with this that I'm about to give up.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this printer working? I know this was a very long post, but I just wanted to explain everything that I've tried and how nothing worked. I really hope that we can figure this out so that I'll be able to print, and maybe it'll solve a few other people's problems with their printers, too. Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for the help.

Had similar issue with my HP Deskjet F4500C All in one printer, here's what I did:
make sure these packages are installed or install them
    pacman -S cups cups-pdf hplip pyqt3 python2-pyqt
    pacman -S system-config-printer-gnome
    rc.d cups start
To add device and install hp driver:
    1. Run ‘hp-setup’ as root.
    2. Click ‘Show Advanced Options’ button and check-enable ‘Manual Discovery’.
    3. Enter IP address 192.168.59.63 in the ‘…device ID…’ entry and click ‘Next’ to install driver.
run system-config-printer as root, to add printer
    # system-config-printer
click “Add”, Select Device -> Network Printer -> input the IP address of the printer such as “192.168.1.3″, click “Find” -> “Process”
you should be ok from here, if not some further steps:
If you encounter the following error:
File “/usr/share/system-config-printer/newprinter.py”, line 1531, in getNetworkPrinterMakeModel
    debugprint (host + “: ” + args)
TypeError: cannot concatenate ‘str’ and ‘list’ objects
You should comment out the error line at 1531 of newprinter.py, and then continue to add the printer.
4). Finally, you can run hp-check to see what problems exists for the printer.

  • OS X 10.5 client and NON-OS X CUPS server: adding printers, solved

    Dear all,
I had trouble in adding printers under OS X 10.5, those printers are shared via a FreeBSD CUPS 1.2.10 server on the local network.
    So I did the following:
    - System Preferences;
    - Print & Fax, right click on the leftmost part of the window, then "Reset printing system";
    - Open Terminal;
    - As admin via sudo or root edit the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file and modify the first lines so they look like:
    Browsing On
    BrowseOrder allow,deny
    BrowseAllow all
    BrowseProtocols all
    BrowseRemoteProtocols all
    BrowsePoll hostnameof_your_cupsserver:631
    BrowsePort 631
    - Save the file;
    - Restart the client;
    - Now you should be able to see/add the printers.
This is a quick and dirty fix, hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Alessandro

    Hi John,
my apologies for having misinterpreted your post. I think that Apple engineers really did a big mistake by omitting the keyword BrowseProtocol="all" in the print engine setup (cupsd.conf), since that keyword basically allows the cups-polld daemon, that is the piece of the local printing engine of OS X that can "ask" the LAN for the presence of printers, to ask for printers shared via CUPS/LDAP/SLP and so on.
I hope that this will be soon fixed in a minor release, since quite a lot of people (especially in the educational/research environments) heavily relies on a centralized CUPS server to manage tens or hundreds of printers (we do have 40+ printers, exported to more 400+ clients, both OS X and Windows).
BTW, this morning I was asking a little joke to my colleagues I said to them "300+ new features, an old one missing.. try to guess which one"
    All the best,
    Alessandro

  • Cannot find FF info in  ERM, CUP and RAR (GRC5.3)

I can only find FF info on the ABAP system txn  /VIRSA/VFAT.
But on the ERM, CUP and RAR (GRC5.3), I cannot find any info about FF.
Which menu path/tab should I go search?
    Thanks!

    Hi Crishty,
GRC AC contains four components RAR(CC),CUP(AE),ERM(RE) and SPM(FF).
These seperate component have four seperate URL, so you will not get FF in ERM,CUP & RAR.
Here are the URL to access these grc component,
    URL for RAR(CC)-
    http//<hostname>:<portnumber>/webdynpro/dispatcher/virsa/ccappcomp/ComplianceCalibrator
    URL for CUP(AE)-
    http://<hostname>:<portnumber>/AE
    URL for ERM(RE)-
    http://<hostname>:<portnumber>/RE
    URL for SPM(FF)-
    http://<hostname>:<port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/grc~ffappcomp/Firefighter
    Thanks,

  • [solved] Brother DCP-110C and CUPS 1.2.x

    Hi,
my girlfriend's multifunction printer/scanner-combo from Brother doesn't work. There are drivers (cupswrapper) directly from Brother, but they don't work. There are no error messages in the logfile of cups and the Brother-Logfile.
CUPS detect the printer correct and show it in the webinterface, but printing a test page doesn't work. I have installed the driver with the instructions from their page. I have edit the files to need the directory structure of ArchLinux (/etc/rc.d/ instead /etc/init.d/), but nothing happens. CUPS find the driver and all, but the printer won't print. Can it be, that the drivers from Brother don't work anymore with CUPS 1.2.x, because their driver are written for CUPS 1.1.
    Any suggestions??
    Daniel
edit: The suggestion from Brother's FAQ, doesn't work.

After some hard fights the multifunction printer/scanner-combo works...
There was several steps necessary to get this device working. First of all, you will need cups and lpd (lprng-package). Both packages conflicts with each others, I know, but the device won't work with only one of them. So I first installed cups and force lprng to install over the files from cups. Very very ugly, I know.
You will need the cupswrapper and the lpd-driver from Brother.
Also the SANE driver from Brother is necessary to scan with the scanner.
After installation of the three drivers from Brother, you must edit the cupswrapper script because there are /etc/init.d in the files. Change these to /etc/rc.d
Cups will find the printer on his own, if the driver is correctly installed. Sane finds the scanner after executing the br2scan (program from Brother) installation steps.
If there are any questions about these device. Feel free to ask me, I think after several days looking through logfiles etc. I can answer all questions....
    Daniel
PS: I will search further for a solution for the very ugly pacman -Sfd lprng.....

  • CUPS not printing to network printer.Printer visible to avahi and cups

Hey. Printing seemed to be working fine last time I checked (which, granted, was a while ago...I don't print that much). I have a networked Canon MG4100 class printer. Avahi sees the printer just fine, as does cups (I can add and modify the printer without any troubles). However when I try to print, it starts printing but then the Cups interface notifies me 'Unable to locate printer "canon.local".'
    1. The printer works fine from a windows laptop
    2. I reset the printer and the wireless router it's attached to
    3. I restarted my laptop
    4. Here are the /var/log/cups/error_log (debug level) logs
    5. /etc/cups/cupd.conf

What the heck am I missing???
    Thanks!
    Scott

I'll look into that when I get a chance. I'm just using the Gutenprint drivers. They were working fine up until recently...I just don't know at what point because I rarely print! I'm a little leery of adding the printer with a static IP address, because it's not a static IP setup...I know it should stay the same for the most part, but I thought that's why we used Avahi...to get away from having to know the IP address!
    Thanks for the input!
