Curious double charaters while typing

As soon as my iMac loaded and I began looking at all the cool stuff, I started to send Mail (eMail) and noticed a strange problem as I typed. Foor some reason, I experience random double character strikes like the one at the beginning of this sentence. At first I thought it might be a preference setting gone wild, but after dialing the setting upp to a faster repeat rate or down for the slower one, there doesn''t seem to be a difference. Sometime punctuation is affected too. Do I have a bad keyboard? Is the keyboard software confused perhaps, or is this a ham-fisted user problem? FYI- this post is mild compared to email text I type -- which is usually full of double strikes. This happens everywhere i.e. it involves all uses of thee keybooard in all applications.. In my 17+ years of using a Mac, I've never seen this one before.
Does this look familiar to anybody?
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

"I've beeen having this exaact same problem. Did any of the suggestions here work for you?"
After I moved, I also had the exact same problem, and discovered it had to do with the new location of my computer. Since I simultaneously began to have sharp pains in both wrists, I simply could not tolerate the situation for any length of time at all, and continually made changes until I discovered the solution - at least for me.
http://www.apple.com/about/ergonomics/index.html
Search "ergonomics" in Support, or google "typing ergonomics" for more information on how to properly position oneself for better productivity and less risk of pain and/or injury when using a typewriter or computer keyboard.
I originally was sitting at a chair seat height that was more than 12" below the height at which the keyboard sat. As long as I sit no more than 9" below the height at which the keyboard sits, I have no typing accuracy problem, and no wrist pain. Measurements are taken while seated, so as to include any compression of the chair seat height.
When I now return myself to that original faulty height configuration, my typing once again makes it look like I'm just learning to spell. I originally got myself into that bad situation by quickly setting up my computer at the first empty desk, rather than first giving any thought to the positioning.
Unfortunately, those measurements are only what works for me, based on my height/arm length/keyboard height/seat height. Each person using a keyboard needs to properly fit themselves into their individual best position. Since correcting desktop height can be nearly impossible, it might be easier to set the keyboard at a different level than the display, or use a different chair.

  • Q10 double letters while typing

    Good day,
I presently have a Q10, had it for a little over a year, I was given this by my company in Australia, I presently work in Indonesia but live in Canada. While typing the keyboard has a tendancy to double up on letters, I have noted via the forums that this is a common problem. Now I cannot take the phone back to Australia, not sure I want to turn it in here in Indonesia (I am very far from a large center) but I do live in Canada. If I take this phone to Telus or someone like that will they hounor it and have it repaired, again this is a common problem so obviously a design problem.
What the heck should I do to get this sorted.
    Thank you for your time
    Dave

I am having the same problem with my Q10... it is only a little over a year old as well.  It is an issue that just started maybe a few months ago.  I thought it was something I was doing, but it continues.    I tried looking in the settings to see if t there was something to to adjust the keypad touch settings, but I cannot find it.   I gave up erasing an retyping words with double letters.....  It is driving me crazy!!!!!
I am also having an issue with my phone phone restarting if I drop it down on the table (no not dropping it down hard).  I have a hard case on the phone. So it is protected and I don't abuse my phone.
I like Blackberry, but I am definitely getting frustrated with this whole thing.
I was hoping this latest software upgrade (Feb 2015)  would resolve the problem but it didn't.
    Hello,
Given your two symptoms, I would deduce something physical is the problem...a hardware fault, defect, something broken inside, etc. However, hardware problems are of course impossible to truly diagnose at an internet distance...only in person evaluation by a qualified BB hardware technician can provide you with a true diagnosis (and hopefully also a remedy).
    Good luck!

  • Keyboard lag while typing

I was wondering if anyone else experienced a lag in the on screen keyboard while typing in certain apps? I have an app that lets me text my friends but as I try to type I can type out a whole sentence or two before the words on appear on screen. Does anyone know why this happens or how I might fix it? In advance thank you for any and all help

I've had this happen a time or two on my iPad. Usually quitting the app and restarting it solves the problem.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it jiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.

  • Quirk while typing in iMail

    Hi,
So I just got the iPad Air and am running into this really annoying quirk.
While typing in portrait mode in iMail, the cursor has a tendency to skip to the bottom of the page, right to the end of the "Sent using my iPad" tag. This will happen three or four times in one email. Really frustrating.
    Anyone know how to fix?

    Hello jgerson
Check your finger placement on your iPad to ensure that there is not any unintentional taps to the screen and double check with the article below to troubleshoot issues with the touchscreen if it continues.

  • Keyboard: Duplicate keys while typing

    Hi evrbdy,
I have a PB G4 1.5 with 2GB upgraded memory. I have a problem with the keyboard, eventought is not major, is annoying.
While using the keyboard, sometimes while typing, the keys entered get duplicated, even that the keeyboard stroke was a single one. I.E. the keyboard word I just wrote, but in the application it comess as a double e. it happens with most of the keys and is an erratic behavior, sometimes happens sometimes not, ddepending on the computer mood.
Any comment on this will be highly appreciated, since I couldn´t find any help like this on the net.

I am still relatively new to the Mac world- just got my Powerbook in August. I had high hopes for Apple's service when it came to getting my keyboard replaced due to this 9 key problem.
I've had SEVERAL, make that TONS of problems with just about every other computer company getting service so when I called APple and spoke to a guy who actually spoke english as a first language, I knew this was going to go well.
5 minutes into the conversation (thats 5, NOT 55) the service call was set up and I was all set and off the phone.
THEN, I sent the computer out to Apple on Tuesday thinking that I'd get it back in a week or so and two days later its back at my door, all healed!
Needless to say I am impressed. I have a renewed appreciation for my computer and the company that makes it.
So long as Apple doesn't screw with their service and support system, I will not be switching back.

I fixed this on Elantech doing this:
This was fixed by me with a simple regestry edit.
Open regedit.exe as admin, navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Elantech\SmartPad
    Find the key named:
    DisableWhenType_Enable
Double click and change the value to 0, close out and restart. Your touchpad is active while typing!
I bet if you naviagate to the synaptics folder under the control subnode, there is a similar setting.

  • Skype freezes while typing at random times. Window...

I'm using Windows 8 Pro (64-bit), along with the desktop version (not the app). But I also recall having a bit of trouble with this on my laptop (Windows 7 home edition 64-bit) as well.
At random times in the middle of my typing, Skype will freeze. It will remain frozen for a few minutes. When this happens, I usually just minimize it and do something else and check back on it to see if it's working. It always unfreezes, I haven't had a crash yet. However, this is getting to be very annoying. It happens rather frequently and interrupts my chat with friends.
I have already made sure that skype is not running in ADMIN or DEBUG mode, etc etc. I'm also using the latest version of Skype.
What could be causing this? And how might I be able to fix it?

    Win 8.1
Using the Desktop version because, well, the modern version is unworkably stupid in too many ways to express.
30-60 second random freezes while typing. No crash. And call still work.
These type of Microsoft FAILS can surely drive a person to insanity.
Why do simple applications like these reduce in performance year after year wile doubling in file size many times over?
Years with this issue occuring and no solution from Skype. I am beyond words

  • After upgrade to iOS8 on my iPhone5, I do not see smart keyboard options while typing message or email text

after upgrade to iOS8 on my iPhone5, I do not see smart keyboard options while typing message or email text

Go to Settings>General>Keyboards>Predictive Text>ON. If it is on, you can toggle it off and then back on. The other method is to check in the typing area of the Messages app and it could be minimized. You would see a small line in the center just below the typing area. You would just need to put your finger on that small line and swipe upwards. But either should bring it back.

You could just try changing your Input Sources under System Preferences>Language & Text:
But I kind of doubt that's going to work. It may be a hardware problem or a system problem. If you take it into Apple they might be able to determine which and might advise a reinstallation of System software. I would take it to an Apple Store or an AASP but, first, make sure that you have a backup just in case they suggest a clean install of the system.
    Good luck,

  • How do I hide the keyboard while typing an email?

On the iPad you can hide the keyboard anytime while typing.  I cannot see a way to hide the keyboard when typing a mail message. I saw a post saying you close, save, go to your saved messaes and open the message again - too time consuming.  There is a fix on the jailbroken site, but I dont want to jailbreak the phone.  There must be a way to hide the keyboard in a mail messge.  In a text message you can.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Edit
I CAN, but not fully for a preview, as the text box goes up completely after 80 odd characters on the iPhone.
So, now i cannot see a previous message for reference.
Apple needs to incorporate a  'hide keyboard' button

  • Apple Mail syncing while typing, multiple updates on BB for same message.

First of all, thanks for looking and helping. Second, it's probably my fault as I am a tweaker often to my detriment. So, with disclaimers out of the way, here's what is happening:
I have a MacBook Pro and my mail is IMAP from my GMail account. When I respond to an email on the Apple, using Apple Mail, WHILE I AM TYPING, the BB retrieves a NEW email with the latest installment of the email!!! Here's an example that just happened:
Open email, start replying... "Paul, I wanted to explain"
BB announces new mail with that sentence
I continue typing... "why I like pasta"
BB announces new email with "Paul, I wanted to explain why I like pasta"
    Etc., etc., etc.
So, my work around it to go to gmail.com and write the email within that program as opposed to using Apple Mail on laptop.
My BB is Tour 9630 with 4.7.1   and the Gmail app is 2.0.7, if it matters.
The Apple is running OS X 10.6.2 and Apple Mail is 4.2
Oh, Bluetooth is not turned on on either device.
Let me know if you need any further info. Thanks again for looking!
    Peace.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I have the same problem.
Just bought the MAC book Pro and while typing on Apple mail everything is syncing on my Blackberry,...This will go on until I finish the mail..Depending on the length of the mail, I can heave more than 15 copies of the same mail that is redundant and constantly updating. Frustrating. I did unchecked the box under preferences, mail box behavior but nothing happened. Has anyone figured out what is the solution?
    Thanks

  • How Do I Hide Mouse Pointer While Typing In Firefox

Only in firefox, and only recently am I having problems typing anything through firefox, as the slightest touch of my laptops touch pad causes the mouse pointer to jump along with my typing cursor. This is causing major issues as I conduct all y business emails through firefox. If this cant be helped I will have to start using Internet Explorer Again. EVERY other program I use auto hides the mouse while typing, Except FF....
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Not sure, but I believe a week or so ago

I have had the same problem despite having Hide Pointer When Typing checked in Mouse Properties. Damn annoying. I thought I finally found a solution with a free utility called "Park Cursor Aside" at http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/parkcursoraside-hide-mouse-cursor-when-typing/.
Works great in Chrome and everywhere else EXCEPT Firefox. How about it Mozilla, are you are giving me another reason to switch over to Chrome? Please fix this. Thank you.

  • Satellite P300: cursor jumps to different positions while typing

    Hi All,
    i have a Satellite P300,
I am having trouble when i type.
When i am typing using the keyboard, the first couple of words are ok, but then the words start typing in the wrong place, eg back further into the middle of the sentence i am typing.
    Anybody please help? thanks

    Hi dude
    I had a similar issue.
While typing the cursor jumped to different positions and I was not able to finish one sentence.
I though there could be something wrong with the keyboard but finally I have notices that I have touched the touchpad surface accidentally while typing ?.
I have disabled the touchpad using the Fn+F9 and the issues has gone
So maybe its the same reason for you

  • While typing in Contribute, Page disappeared. How do I recover?

While typing away on a major Page revision...the draft disappeared. There was no warning message...no back button. How do I recover that draft?

    Hi Graffiti;
    Thank you for your input.
Checked. I did not have Rollbacks (Tim Horton’s???) enabled...so assume I have lost an hours work. I’m obviously not impressed with the Contribute programmer’s that would allow this to happen...why not just a simple BACK button? I’ll talk to Adobe.
    Thanks again...have a great day!

  • TB freezes while typing in email address

While typing the address in the to: box, thunderbird freezes.
I am on Ubuntu 14-04, thunderbird 31.5.0. The behavior happens periodically and also in safemode. It seems to be when i pause typing and it tries to look up the address in my address book.
It looks like the same issue as https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1013192, but that question is closed.

I looked at the question you referenced. Do you have a large address book as 'tektite' did (over 5000)? I can give you a link to the daily version for Ubuntu if you would like to try it. (I run on Ubuntu 14.04 also).
