Curious how you all organize your videos/music/pictures

I am curious to know: How do you all organize/keep/archive (1) the videos you have created, (2) your music in iTunes, (3) your photos in iPhoto?
Do you keep each individual video on a separate CD or DVD? Or all in one ex. hard drive? Or?
~L

I keep my iTunes Library on my iMac's drive, with a backup copied to another external drive.
My iPhoto Libraries (I have 12 right now) are on an external drive, with backup on another external drive, not the same one that backs up my iTunes.
For my iPhoto Libraries, I number manually all the photos in each 'Family Photos' album for each year, aftr I have finished putting them in chronologic order. I do this myself because I want the photos to sort the way I placed them. I burn those photos to DVDs from Finder so I can save those discs as backups of all my photos. If my drives fail, or if my family ever needs to print some of these photos, I have the photos in the order they would be in if they were printed and put into an album chronologically. There are other photos in my iPhoto Libraries that are either similar, not great shots or some that I don't necessarily want in my Family albums. I do not need to save them for posterity and if they were lost or forgotten it would not matter to my kids and grandkids.
I am not yet using iMovie 9 a lot so I don't have more than a couple of small movies there.
I use iMovie 6 and have my in-progress movies on the external drive that has my iPhoto Libraries. I have copies of all those movies on another external drive and I try to update that whenever I do any extensive editing of my iMovies.
After I have finished editing an iMovie, I export it back to miniDV tapes using my camcorder. Apparently exporting back to camcorder is not a feature of iMovie 8 or 9.
I then put my iMovie(s) into iDVD projects, burn 5 DVD disks from each project (one for us, one for each kid, one extra and one for secure saving) and save each project as a disc image file. After checking that the DVD has burned correctly and that the iMovie does not need to be further edited, and after the edited iMovie has been exported back to tape, I then delete the iDVD project and the iMovie used in that project.
I put one DVD copy of each iDVD project in our safe-deposit box.
I keep all the disk image files on two separate external drives. I even went back to the DVD discs that I had made before iDVD had the option to create disk image files and created disk image files from the discs. I can now reburn any of my projects whenever I need another copy. Even though I have several copies of each project, DVD discs can crack, melt, scratch and break, so I wanted to be sure I could always have another copy.
I am somewhat concerned that newer technology will produce some sort of image/video-storage device and all my DVDs will need to be converted to that format, but I figure that will be the job of my children and/or grandchildren. At least I will have all our old photos and videos preserved in a digital format.
I am almost finished with my project of putting all our photos/videos on DVDs for the years 1890-2010. I have completed 1974-2009 except for the last two months of 2009. I am working on the 'early years' and when finished with that, I will be up to date. At that point, hopefully in the next two or three months, I am going to learn iMovie 9 and FCE and purchase a new HD camcorder and a better still camera, so maybe my organization plan will change a bit for movie clips.

    if you have reinstall your win on your pc, how you can deouthrized your last pc from itunes?

    If you can, open iTunes on your PC, go to Store in toolbar and select deauthorize this computer. Shut down iTunes and reinstall your OS.
    If you can't access your iTunes account on your PC, you'll have to reinstall Windows then install iTunes again. Log into your iTunes Store account within iTunes itself and clear all authorized computers, then authorize each computer individually again.
    Hope this helps

  • How you can sync your contact and your mail with iTunes 11 as it's not there anymore ?

    How you can sync your contact and your mail with iTunes 11 as it's not there anymore ?

    ~ means your Home directory. Using the command above takes you to the Home directory on the boot drive.  Your backup files are now on another drive in a directory that used to be your Home but is now a subfolder of Users so you have to specify that drive after the /Volumes, then the user name, then the rest to go there
    I use OSX 10.4.11 and on it the libraries are still visible.  There's two at least.  One general one at the top level of the boot drive and another for each user (the one with the ~).  I think they made at least one of them invisible with newer OS versions.

  • Is there any guides on how to organize your videos?

    So I have a 60GB video Ipod. I also have PQ DVD to Ipod (converts DVD to mp4 - very easily and accurately). Anyways, when I transfer the converted movie file to the ipod using anapod explorer 8.9.5a (i still have itunes, in a rare, rare circumstance just in case i need it) to transfer the files to the "video" folder. I also transfer some of my converted music videos in that same folder too.
    Follow? K - now, when I start the ipod and go look at my movies in the "movies" folder - they are not there. All of the videos including the music videos are in the "music videos" folder. I can also access the movies through the music folder going to songs or the artists tab. Go figure....
    This kinda defeats Apple's organizing system with videos and music then if I can access all of it through either one.
    What gives? Is there a fix around this and the Ipod will organize the files correctly. IE. Ladder49goes to "movies" and "godsmack:serenity" goes to "music videos"....
    I'm trying to be clear as possible to make it understandable.
    I would appreciate any help you could give me.

    If you transfer videos through iTunes, then how are they set in iTunes?
    In iTunes, right click the video and go to get info. Hit the options tab. Change it there.

    Can you repair your QuickTime?
    START > CONTROL PANEL > PROGRAMS N FEATURES > highlight QuickTime and click REPAIR button.

  • Here's how you can get your Fox 25 back.

    You'll need to live close enough to Needham to pick up the off-air signal and you'll also need an antenna, which you can pick up at your local radio shack or best buy.  After you pick up your off-air antenna and connect directly it to your HDTV, go into your TV's setup menu using your televisions original remote control, change the antenna type to "Off-Air" or "antenna" (as opposed to "Cable" or "QAM") and then select scan to find free off-air channels. Once you've tuned WFXT, you're ready to use your FiOS TV remotes "TV Input/AV" button (in the bottom left corner of the FiOS TV Remote) to switch between WFXT off-air and your FiOS TV settop box.  You can view my youtube video showing how I did this on my television.

    Where did you buy the antenna?
    Thanks

    walmart, bestbuy, radioshack, target, kohls, etc, etc
    If you are close enough to the transmitter you may not even need an antenna as a length of coax might be enough.

  • How can I organize home videos and photos in ipad

    I don't have a mac or pc, just the new ipad.  I'm planning to buy a camera card reader adapter so I can load my photos and videos directly from my camera card to my ipad.  But then how do I organize my home videos and photos in my ipad into albums?
    I saw the photo folder app does essentially what I want but does it treat videos the same as photos?  I didn't see anything about it being able to organize videos.

    See the follwoing and the links in the following:
    iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos
    Yuo will likely need a computer app to convert the format to one compatible with the iPad. I use the Free HandBrake app. It has an iPad preset.

  • How do I transfer my videos and pictures from my dslr camera to my macbook

    Hello.
    I am new to the Apple world and recently purchased a MacBook Pro.  I have a Cannon DSLR camer and I am having problems transferring the pictures and videos.  Do I need to get a program to transfer these items?
    Also how do I get them to save to an external harddrvie and not in iphoto?
    thank you
    Faye

    You can use Image Capture to save them exactly where you want them, or iPhoto if you use that.  Canon also has its own pretty good image transfer and viewing software, and even pretty good video editing.  Mine came on a CD with the camera (4 years ago) but you can likely download it from Canon's site (you will need your camera's serial number).

    Connect your mini to your computer via USB.  The mini will be recognized by your laptop as a camera and will offer the option to transfer pictures and videos.

  • How can you tell if your video/graphics card is failing?

    I have been playing World of Warcraft for over 7 months now (insert geek jokes here), and I have never experienced the problems that I have been experiencing with WoW this weekend.
    I was hoping that it was just a connection/internet issue with WoW, but when i play on my laptop (and older Powerbook G4), screen loads aren't slow like they are on my Intel iMac.
    Yesterday and today have been horrible. I'll get disconnected at least 4-5 times (which NEVER happens) and when I am finally logged into my account for game play, it's horrible lag. And even then, it takes a while for the background or other characters to load.
    I'm worried that it's my video/graphics card and might be failing. How would I know if this was the case?
    I am still hoping it's just a connectivity issue and has nothing to do with my card. But I don't know at this point.
    I'm very frustrated.
    Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Suzanne

    Wow, ok, sounds like you are on the exact same path that I'm on. I'm a WOW player also, have had my iMac since 2008 (and play wow alot, raiding, etc) and recently it fried it's graphics card. I just replied to your thread about HDDs... so please see that response.
    I'm convinced it's a heat issue and I have a feeling the latest OSX update may have changed something about the fan speed that caused extra heat to build up. Just a theory.
    Anyway, your options are very limited for "fixing" a screwed up graphics card. Hopefully you have AppleCare, otherwise you're looking at ~$500 to fix this.
    I'm not going to bother. Just bought a new monitor and graphics card for my 4y.o. Windows machine and will be using that from now on. I'll miss the Apple display and the operating system, but the hardware doesn't make me happy at all.
    Good luck!

  • How did you all get your new alum iMacs so quickly?

    As you can see from my profile, it it time for a new Mac! I have been told by various Mac suppliers in my area that they would not get their shipments of alum iMacs until the end of August. I tried to get one through the Apple online store, same release date.
    However, since reading this forum, as well as the display forum, I am starting to have second thoughts, due to the calibration and screen quality issues.
    Could it be that Apple is delaying shipments now, because they are busy fixing the bugs in the screen?
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Thanks for the replies, folks.
    +A handful of people who do not actually own a new iMac have generated a large number of posts about glossy screens and color matching between the iMac monitor and paper printing being unsuitable for professional graphics design work. It's a tempest in a teapot as far as the rest of us go.+
    I am beginning to agree with this statement! It is easy getting caught in "the tempest" while one is reading all the various posts. It is heartening to read more and more posters having positive experiences with the new iMacs. I am not a graphic artist, designer, nor a professional photographer. I do use iphoto and photoshop to "tweak" my family photos. I also enjoying tinkering with idvd and imovie with my kids. My son especially enjoys making stop action Lego movies! My PowerPC has handled these tasks admirably, yet slowly, so it is time to move on.
    I don't rush into any purchase of this sort without extensive research and reading. I obviously get full value out of my computer purchase (10+ years since the last one), and I don't feel the need to buy another computer anytime soon.
    Now I just need to decide on the 20" or the 24". Any thoughts?

  • This is how you extract frames from video

    right then, in answer to many posts about how to get the individual frames from video, here is my solution. it seems to work with mpg files but it doesnt seem to work with any of the avi files i tried. not sure why it doesnt work with those. i have modified javas frame access.
    nothing is displayed except it prints which frame it is doing.
    if anyone wants to improve it, please do. i still dont understand fully how it works so i probably wont be able to answer many questions about it. anyway here it is:

                   long t = (long) (frame.getTimeStamp() / 10000000f);
                   System.err.println(
                        "Post: frame #: "
                             + frame.getSequenceNumber()
                             + ", time: "
                             + ((float) t) / 100f
                             + ", len: "
                             + frame.getLength());
              public String getName() {
                   return "Post-Access Codec";
              private Dimension size;

    The quality of the produced video from this example is very poor.
    It comes to huuuuge surprise the following fact.
    If you comment the line where you set the PostAccessCodec, the chain of the codecs is:
    MPEG-1 decoder -> YUV2RGB -> Direct Draw Renderer. ( The one used from the system to decode and render)
    If you run the example purely as is above you get the following sequence(as long with the poor quality):
    MPEG-1 decoder -> YUV2RGB -> Windows GDI Renderer.
    So you say lets set another Renderer. So
    you add the following line videoTracker.setRenderer( new DDRenderer() )
    What comes to a surprise is the following chain of codecs:
    MPEG-1 decoder -> YUV2RGB -> Post Codec -> Java RGB Converter - > DDRenderer
    The quality now may be perfect but video runs to slow. The surprising thing here is that even though we have set the outputFormat of the PostAccessFrame codec to RGBFormat the system converts it again to RGB through codec Java RGB Format.
    After searching a lot and reaching the conclusion that the deference between the 2 RGB's is their sizes I sudently was brought in front of a method called grabFrame(). Bels started ringing inside my head. Starts were comming up. Looking at the definition of the class com.sun.media.renderer.video.DDRenderer I descovered that this damn class implements the FrameGrabbingControl Interface. What the f.....? The problem that consumed 4 days of my life and multiplied with 10 to give hours has finally come to an and.
    Summing up the solution for grabbing frames is this!!!!!
    DDRenderer renderer = new DDRenderer();
    videoTrack.setRenderer( renderer );
    and in your actionPerformed implementation
    FrameGrabbingControl fr = (FrameGrabbingControl)renderer.getControl( "javax.media.control.FrameGrabbingControl");
    Buffer frame = fr.grabFrame();
    The following stuff ...are stated in FrameAccess

  • Where do you guys store your videos?

    Just wondering where mist people store their video, in the movies folder or in iMovie? I currently am importing all the movies taken from my iPhone in the past 2 years to iMovie. A folder named let's say June 2010 has 16 videos in it and so I import that entire folder and create an event called June 2010 and so on. But lately I'm questioning this method cause I can't see a way to see the date of one of those videos once in iMovie, the only thing the event shows me is let's say June 02 through June 27 2010. How do you do it?

    Mist people store their video in the cloud.

    Don't use the Remote app.
    To play items in iTunes on your computer on your iPad, open the Music app on the iPad, then More then Shared.
    Select the iTunes library on your computer and play what you want.
    You can't AirPlay to your iPad.
