Curious network item popping up in sidebar

Just installed a new HD in my MacBook Pro and took the opportunity to do some housecleaning by installing a fresh Snow Leopard OS rather than doing a Time Machine restore. Since the install I’ve been having an odd issue that I’ve never seen before, and it has me rather concerned.
I have an Airport Extreme with LaCie HD connected, and with an Airport Express hardwired and set up as a roaming network.
The Extreme, named “Airport Extreme”, shows up under Shared in the sidebar as it should, and connects normally to my LaCie. But on occasion I a second item shows up under Shared with the same name but spelled “airport-extreme”. I have no idea what this is or why it pops up and disappears when it does. Last time it popped up it was still there when I left the computer overnight, but was gone when I woke up the machine in the morning. It has happened several times, but I have no idea how to make it re-appear at will in order to do any investigation. Clicking on it makes a popup flash on screen for less than a second: "Do you want the application NetAuthAgent.app to accept incoming network connections?".
Not much experience with networks. Anybody know what's going on here?

I have a G-Tech drive I can plug into the Airport Extreme temporarily. I think you're right about it corresponding to waking after sleep. The phantom disk just showed up again after the LaCie had been sitting unused for a few hours. I'll switch to the G-Tech, try to reproduce the problem, and report back.
I was just reminded of something else odd that happened. I'm not wanting to branch off onto a different topic, but as this seems network related too I thought I'd mention it in case it offers another clue to the original topic. Shortly after the re-install, I was moving files between these drive and getting things back in order (not via Time Machine, just drag & drop) when I tried to drag an item from my laptop HD to the trash. I got a warning that the item would be deleted immediately, the same warning that normally shows up when deleting from a network drive. I tried many different files from my local drive with the same results... somehow my internal drive was being treated like a network drive. I re-booted the laptop and all was well, and it has not happened since.

how do I stop "unable to download item " pop up appearing even though the item has downloaded

  • Constant 'unable to download items' pop up

After updating to iOS 8 and downloading some suggested free iBooks (I believe that's when the issue started), I've been getting a randomly timed but constant stream of system alerts, saying 'Unable to download items - Please try again later'. They seem to get a lot more frequent during app use.
AAs far as I know, nothing has failed to download.

Wonder if this might be fixed when the U2 album is officially released on Oct 13, 2014?  I too am receiving the Unable to Download Item pop up.  I have done everything possible to try and correct this issue. Spoke with 2 different people at Apple Support Services and they did not know of this problem nor do they know the fix at this time.  Not sure how to get rid of the Album and the download.  Tried that too and still receive this error.  More people need to call Apple Support to notify them of this problem so that they can fix it quicker.  For now I am stuck with this error.

  • Can't get Shared items to appear in Sidebar

Up until yesterday I have been screen sharing two computers on my network. I would go to the "SHARED" category in the Finder Sidebar and select the other computer. Now I can no longer see the "SHARED" category.
I have gone to the Sharing item in the System Preferences and reset the permissions, etc in the File Sharing and Screen Sharing categories.
    Still no luck!

You shouldn't need to reset permissions. If it is not showing, try turning off file/screen sharing, and then turn it back on. Permissions are not going to affect the share showing you your sidebar.

  • How do I back-link to a text box, pop-up, or sidebar?

I can make a hyperlink from a text box, pop up window, and sidebar to a bookmark, but can't make a return link to any of these? Is it just not possible, or did I miss something.
    Thanks.

I don't know what you mean by "unique link/bookmark pairs." I believe all bookmarks are unique.
You just said what I said.... Thanks for confirming.
A bookmark needs a link to work. A link needs a bookmark to work. Those two things create a unique pair that work together. A & B. To B from A.
Are you asking how to back-link or how to bookmark?
    You cannot create A & B and then expect the user to do: A ▶ B ▶ A
If you want B ▶ A, you need to create another pair: C, D
Put C next to B and D next to A, then the user can do: C ▶ D, which in effect takes them from B back to A.
Now you have two unique pairs: A/B & C/D

  • Can't drag items into finder's sidebar

After upgrading to OS X.6.7, I am no longer able to drag items into the sidebar in the finder window on my iMac. I drag the items into the space under 'PLACES,' but nothing happens.
I've read that it's necessary to hold down CMD when dragging an item from the sidebar to remove it, but haven't seen anything on how to add an item. Any advice?

Holding CMD is only necessary to remove it.  To add it, just drag it over and don't let go until you see the horizontal line placement bar.  It's easy to drop it into a folder there rather then the sidebar.

  • Disable partner item pop-up screen

    Hi all,
I do have a requirement for Transaction VA01 and VA02. When a Sales Order is created, and I opened that Sales Order via VA02, I wish to grey-off the entire fields of partner's address screen.
The partner's screen can be reached via VA02 -> Header Level -> Partner tab -> display a list of partner functions -> double click one of the line item, and address subscreen pop-up (This is where I want to grey-off the entire fields in the subscreen, this can prevent from user changing the address, so that the address sticks to the original address from master data).
The address subscreen is at program SAPLSZA1, screen 0301.
I have also tried to look at the user exit in SAPMV45A -> include MV45AFZZ, but can't find any possible solution from there.
Any idea and solution will be much appreciated.
in VOPAN I have maintained Sold-to-party as non-modifiable mode ,when i double clik But it is still in Editable mode .Please guide me May I need to do more settings .
    Thanks and regards,

  • Item pop up in PO

    Hello All,
is there a possibillity to create a text for an item which will appear/ pop up automatically if we create a PO for them?
    thanks
    best regards

    Hi,
You can trigger an email to the SAP Inbox to all persons in a distribution list as express message using an user exit on PO save.
The result is that whenever a PO is saved an express message is triggered to all maintained in the distribution list.
    Hope this is useful

  • Networking preferences pop-down box

When opening networking preferences I get a pop-down box saying that your networking preferences have been changed by another application. I click the OK box ( there is no other choice, although I have no idea whether this is ok or not) The pop down keeps recurring until I force quit.
Is this a potentially serious issue, the networking preferences being changed, and how can I get around the repeated pop down box, I cannot otherwise use network prefs. ... Many thanks for any help

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.
Try this cure for Security update...

  • Getting rid of network items in the finder window

For the life of me I can't find any info on this, so here goes. In my finder window on the side bar, I have a category called shared. When I expand it lists an item named All..... When I click on All.... it displays in the main icon window what appear to be network connections for two websites, rentals.com and some microsoft maps platform website. When I try to drag them to the trash it gives me a message saying they can't be deleted. How do I get rid of them?

  • Firewall -network access pop ups

I have my Firewall turned on and have selected apps that have permission to access the network, which includes iTunes. However, recently I am getting this pop up
"Do you want the application 'iTunes.app' to accept incoming network connections?"
every time I open iTunes. I have deleted iTunes from the allowed list in the Firewall and re-added it. (Yes I am the admin on the account)
This is a recent issue and I don't have the issue with other apps. Does anyone have another suggestion that does not include disabling the firewall. I don't feel comfortable doing that.
    Message was edited by: jneusch

    Hello jneusch!
seemingly the firewall gets confused sometimes after installing updates etc. You wrote that you already tried removing the entry from the Allow Specifics list. After removing it, try temporarily changing the firewall behavior to "Allow all incoming connections" and changing back. Maybe the message will appear once more, in that case select Accept. But after that it shouldn't reappear.
If nothing else works, move the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist to your Desktop. This is the preference file for SL's "Application Firewall" containing the settings for the exceptions. (Note: moving this file will reset the Firewall settings you've made so far.) Restart, and if the message pops up again select Allow. After that it shouldn't show up any more.
    Hope that helps.

  • Enter Network Password Pop up - Outlook 2007

I keep getting the little box popping up asking me to enter my network password in Outlook 2007 (we are on BT infinity). I have four email accounts, which are all BT ones and they all come into the same inbox but two of the accounts get these popups regularly (every 2 or 3 minutes) and it is driving me mad. The other two get them but much more rarely (probably less than once a day). I have gone through all the settings for all accounts and everything appears to be the same. I have logged into all the accounts on Yahoo and can access everything absolutely fine so i know the password is ok.  Is there anything else I can try to stop them popping up?

I also am experiencing the same isues, i have spoken with customer support who tell me the problem is with Outlook! Funny it has only started being a problem since the recent server upgrade?  I realy am feeling let down by BT's customer service level since this is a widspread issue.  All they need to do is admit there is a problem and pledge to fix it ASAP, once this has been established i can endure the inconvenience till then.

  • SSL with Network Solutions @ POP Setting

    Hi,
Having a difficulty setting up my mail where the instructions by Network Solutions is to use Password as authentication and NOT to check the SSL setting in the outgoing mail. The system automatically checks the SSL no amtter how many times i uncheck it.
The only solution is to set the authientication to MD5 Challenge-responce in order for the SSL not to be auto checked by the computer it self.
I have mails going OUT, but some mails do not arrive as they are bounced back to the sender.
Does anyone else have a similar problem or solution for this?
    Much apreciate the help,
