'Currency' as a segment in Chart of Accounts

Hi all,
Please pardon me for posting such a long mail :) If you could help me address these concerns, we would really appreciate it.
This is regarding Financial Accounting Hub implementation for an Investment Company. There is a requirement (details mentioned below) at my client site wherein they wish to evaluate 'Currency' as a segment in their Chart of Accounts structure.
Requirement:-
There are two source systems wherein all transactions are already accounted for; henceforth, we have suggested a 'pass-through' approach to the client. The scenario is that, these source systems have transactions (in different Quotation currencies for each Investment they make) which needs to be captured in Corporate General Ledger financial reports (in Balance Sheet, the client wishes to have columns for Currencies to which the Investment has been exposed, along with functional currency, USD balances).
Am seeking your help/insights on the following points:-
- What could be repercussions of having 'Currency' as a segment in Chart of Accounts.
- Can we capture static*** (additional) information from these source systems in 'Supporting References' and could we generate reports for the same (I mean, there is standard functionality in FAH to attach supporting reference to the journal lines; having said that, could we capture the balances of 'Supp. Refs.' in any report).
- What are the pros and cons of having Multiple General Ledgers and finally consolidating them into one ledger. What is the best practice followed in the industry?
- Pros and cons of having single Chart of Accounts and Multiple Chart of Accounts.
- Which reporting tool could be used for developing Financial Reports (like B/S, P&L, Cash Flows) and monthly reports (like reports as per static/additional data)?
I would appreciate if any document/insights pertaining to the same could be shared. Also, if any requirement definition document (RD50) , for a Financial/Investment Company (*which invests its Govt.'s surpluses into asset classes across the world).
***Statics Data in our case, for instance, there is an accounting entry Marketable Securities Dr 1000, To Bank Cr 1000. Other than that, there is static information, like Portfolio Region, Portfolio Currency, Portfolio Dept., etc. linked to this accounting entry.
Thanks in advance.

  • Account config in Chart of Accounts Vs. Company code

I am in a self study mode and had a question that may be very simple for all you experts yet confusing for me. What is the main difference? I know that any GL accounts that are to be used at Company code level are to be setup at CoCd level and the Chart is an exhaustive list of all available accounts. Do I HAVE to set it up at company code level to use the account, or do I have to set it up at company code level only if there is an account that is in addition to the COA thats relevant for that CoCd only?

    Hi
    CoA contain two segments:
    1 Chart of account segments
    2 Company code segement
Chart of account segment informatio is common and same across all company codes. So u can create GL accounts which will contain whether it is a PL or BS account, account group and Short and Long text which will not change across the company  codes.
All GL accounts created in CoA may or may not contain in all the company codes. Some GL accounts would have been created specifc to certain company codes to meet certain accounting requirements. Company code relevant information may not be same across the company codes. For example currency. field status group, tax relevant accounts. For a company code situate in India, the currency may be INR where for the same account situated in US may be defined as USD. Hope it is clear now.

  • How can I Migrate a Segmented Chart of Account with DTW?

    Hello.
If anyone could help me to solve this problem I would be most gratefull...
The templates installed in SAP Business One under the DTW folder do not include a segmented chart of account template, so I would like to know how can I transform (if that is possible) the standard model, or maybe find a way out, cause' the chart of account is pretty big and I have it all in a well defined CSV.
    Thank you.

    Luciano,
The forum that you have posted your question in is for questions related to the SAP Business One integration for SAP NetWeaver.  You should post this type of question in the SAP Business One SDK Forum or the SAP Business One Discussion Forum as you may get a quicker response.

  • FI Forex gain loss & Exchange Rate difference on Foreign Currency & Chart of Accounts

    Dear All,
I have queries on following :
    1) what is difference b/w Forex gain loss account & Exchange Rate difference on Foreign Currency account .
    2) Under which Heads in Balance sheet they should come as per Indian Accounting Standards.
    3) Are these accounts common for Vendor & customers or different.
    4) they record FI data at Company code level or at sub-ledger level first (Vendor /Customer) .
    4) Is it advised to use same Chart of Accounts to two companies in same country by using different GL's with different FSV?
    Regards
    MJ

    Hi M J,
    Please note the answers below:-
    1. It is one and the same thing. When you say forex gain/loss account, it means a GL account and exchnage rate difference means, the difference in rates at which you purchased/sold and the rate at which you made paid/collected.
    2. Ask Client where they want to show these GL's in Financial statement Version.
    3. The configuration setting is in OB09 and SAP allows you to keep same or diff GL for both realised Exchnage rate gain/loss. It depends on how you want to see. technically it is possible.
    4. The Valuation is done at company code level, but individual records are picked up at vendor/customer level. It means that the revaluation gain/loss adjustment is not given to each individual Vendor/Customer, rather it is posted to a GL - Balance Sheet adj.
    5. Yes, you can use same chart of accounts and you do not need to create separate GL's at the company code level for two company codes. Same GL's can be used as the posting is made at Co. code level.
    Regards,
    Kavita
Note : Please raise separate thread for different questions. Your Point No. 5 is not related to the rest.

We are planning to change our functinal currency and charts of accounts in two different projects or in one project . How can this affect Purchasing & Inventory modules?

Purchasing module will not be affected except that you need to build new Responsibilities for that specific Organizations.
In Inventory module you will have copy all your items from one org to another (INTRA-ORG TRANSFER).

  • Transport of Chart of Accounts- Company Code segment

    Hi everyone,
i´m trying to transport a chart of account from one system to another.
i´ve used the tx OBY9, but while it works fine for the Chart of Account segment it doesn´t transport the Company Code segment.
Does anyone knows if is it posible to do this? What transaction should i use?
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
    try this procedure:
    1. Transport the chart of accounts - OBY9 (only chart of accounts segment)
    2. Create the file containing the Company Code segment - tx FS15 on the source system (leave <i>Target Company Code</i> empty, erase ticks <i>Update file immediately</i> and <i>Check file only</i>; enter <i>File name</i>) -> you can see the file using tx AL11- Directory Global
    3. Transport the file from the source system to the target system (I have asked my base colleague to do it)
    4. Receive the file in the target system - tx FS16 (tick <i>Update File Immediately</i>)

  • Help Me  : Import Chart of account

    Hi all .
I prepare file chart of account , type .txt  , I use data transfer workbench to import , so I received a messenge : "Legal parent number Application -defined or object-defined error65171" , please help me .
    Thanks alot .

You need 5 columns in an Excel spreadsheet as follows:
         1. Code
         2. Type (0, 1, 2) for Other, revenues or expenditure
         3. Currency
         4. Account Name
         5. Parent (level above - title)
The first row with data is row 2, row 1 is for headings. In VB Macro turn on the DI API by selecting Tools > References > SAP Business One DI API Version 2007 (or 2005).
In VB Macro the code for non segmented COA for 2007 is as follows:

    Dim vCmp As SAPbobsCOM.Company
    Dim lRetCode, lErrCode As Long
    Dim sErrMsg As String
    Set vCmp = New SAPbobsCOM.Company

    vCmp.CompanyDB = "XXXX"
    vCmp.UserName = "manager"

    GoSub Write_parent
    GoTo Get_COA
    Write_parent:
    vCOA.AccountType = coa_type
    vCOA.AcctCurrency = coa_curr

Give me a shout if you don't come right or if your COA is with segments.

    Geeta

    hi geeta,
ClientA Client is the highest unit within an SAP system and contains Master records and Tables. Data entered at this level are valid for all company code data and organizational structures allowing for data consistency. User access and authorizations are assigned to each client created. Users must specify which client they are working in at the point of logon to the SAP system.
A CompanyA Company is the unit to which your financial statements are created and can have one to many company codes assigned to it. A company is equivalent to your legal business organization. Consolidated financial statements are based on the companyu2019s financial statements. Companies are defined in configuration and assigned to company codes. Each company code must use the same COA( Chart of Accounts) and Fiscal Year. Also note that local currency for the company can be different.
Company CodesCompany Codes are the smallest unit within your organizational structure and is used for internal and external reporting purposes. Company Codes are not optional within SAP and are required to be defined. Financial transactions are viewed at the company code level. Company Codes can be created for any business organization whether national or international. It is recommended that once a Company Code has been defined in Configuration with all the required settings then other company codes later created should be copied from the existing company code. You can then make changes as needed. This reduces repetitive input of information that does not change from company code to company code as well as eliminate the possibility of missed data input.
Business Area Business Area is optional and is equivalent to a specific area of responsibility within your company or business segment. BA (Business Area) also allows for internal and external reporting.
Another configuration requirement for set-up in SAP are the Basic settings consisting of the following:
    Chart of Accounts(COA)
    Fiscal Year Variants.
    Currencies
    The COA(Chart of Accounts)
The COA(Chart of Accounts) lists all General Ledger accounts that are used by the organization. It is assigned in configuration to each company code and allows for daily General Ledger postings.
    Fiscal Year configuration
Fiscal Year configuration is a must and can be defined to meet your companyu2019s reporting periods whether Fiscal (any period combination that is not calendar) or Calendar( Jan-Dec).
Posting Periods are defined and assigned to the Fiscal Year.
Within the periods you specify start dates and finished dates.
SAP allows for 12 posting periods along with specially defined periods that can be used for year-end financial closing.

  • UPLOAD CHART OF ACCOUNTS OACT DTW

Hello iam trying to upload the chart of accounts with the DTW. Iam using segmented accounts (xxxxxx-xx-xxx). I just can upload the father accounts, when i upload the first active account i get the next error:
Invalid Code Application - defined or object - defined error 65171.
I have already look to the other posts, but iam unable to upload it.
    Can someone Help Me?
    Thanks

    Hi,
For your issue, please check below information.
    - Please use the code the same way it is noted in the OACT table. This
field should also not be blank
    - For currency, please also note it in the csv file the way it is in
Business One e.g. Euro would be EUR
    Issue Possible reason:
    1, Field     'Code' is blank.
In DI API Help file 2005 for OChartofAccount, it says that Field "Code"
is the Mandatory field in SAP Business One when Not Working with
    Segmentation.
    2, Field     'FormatCode'
The Account Segment Separator '-'.existed in 'FormatCode' field.
    Solution
    1, Field     'Code' is blank.
For updating existing chart of account with segmentation, This field is
mandatory. You must fill it with the account code of that account you
want to update. You can get the code of each account #_SYS00000000XX#
from OACT table. Otherwise, we cannot update it.
It is not covered in DI API Help file 2005.
    2, Field     'FormatCode'
Please delete the Account Segment Separator '-'. For example, change
11005-000-00-11 to 110050000011. System will identify automatically.
Please make sure that the field is a Text format cell. You can change
the format cell by right click the cell.
Wish the information above could solve your issue.
    Regards

  • Segment of the gl account

what is the segment of the gl account?

    Hello,
If you are asking about different segments of a GL master record, then there are 2 segments.
    1. Chart of accounts segment - Use T code FSP0 to create/view
    2. Company code segment. - Use Tcode FSS0 to create/view
Chart of account segment contains 3 tabs
    a. Type/description - contains the GL name/description, GL account number, type of the GL -BS account or P&L account etc
    b. Keywords/translation - contains keywords and languages for translation
    c. Information - contains info such as created on , created by etc
Comp code segment has 3 tabs
    a. Control data - contains fields such as GL currency, tax category sort key etc.
    b. create/bank/interest - field status grp, house bank interst indicator etc
    c. Information - craeted on , created by, chart of accounts, controlling area etc.
But if you want to know how to assign a segment (which is an organisational unit representing a business area/operation of the organisation) then
create segment in IMG - Enterprise structure - definition -FA - Define segment
Assign the segment to profit centre in KE52
you can enter the profit centre in line item when you post to the GL and system will derive the segment from PC. Or you can assign the PC to cost centre in KS02 and use the CC in line item.
